This is one of the "big name" deep dish pizza places in Chicago. One of many Giordano's in the city. I've had Giordano's a few times before and Lou's, but this Gio's today missed big time with the deep dish. We came in tonight for dinner and there were plenty of open tables and seated super quickly. We ordered the Giordano's Sampler ($15.15) and the Calamari & More ($12.44) to start with as the deep dish pizza takes around 45 mins to come out which is expected. We ordered a Medium Meat & More Deep Dish Pizza ($30.55). The Calamari & More was definitely the move! We really enjoyed it and they fried some lemon slices and banana peppers too. The Giordano's Sampler was good too, but for 4 chicken nuggets, 4 mozz sticks, and cheese bread being $15, I wouldn't get it again. Our appetizers were pretty quick and we didn't even wait 10 mins for them. Our Meat & More Pizza came out and it looked like the same pizzas I've gotten before. The first bite of pizza I took wasn't hot hot. More like barely lukewarm. With it not being hot, it was difficult for me to want to eat more than a slice tbh. Giordanos is a go-to for deep dish whenever I'm in Chicago. Brought a visiting friend (a deep dish skeptic and usual fan of NY-style pizza) here for her first deep dish style pizza and she left impressed. We got a small size customized with peppers, onions, and jalapeños, which was split into 6 slices and was more than enough food for the 2 of us. The crust was a little crispy for my liking but my friend enjoyed it so depends on personal preference. It is the right proportion to the size of the pizza though and not soggy at all. Beware it is a long wait for the deep dish (menu says 45 minutes) so be patient or order some appetizers to hold you over in the meantime. read more

Anyway, service was great and although I am not of a fan of deep dish pizza, Giordano's is the only place where I will eat a slice. Their other pizzas (regular and thin crust) are the best. I was in town for a work conference, and I had never had Chicago style deep dish pizza before, so I decided to come to Giordano's. My internet research told me that this was the place to go, so I went with it. It's right off one of the main paths by all the parks and water and stuff. I walked in, the wait was insane, so I took a barstool at the bar, no wait. There were plenty of TV's at the U-shaped bar. This would be a good place to watch sports in. Immediate service from the friendly bartender. I got an app, because I was told the pizza would take 45 minutes. I got the Cheesy Garlic Bread (Melted mix of four cheeses and herbs served with a side of house-made marinara sauce). The bread was crispy, and the cheese was ooey gooey. The sauce was actually really nice. I'm used to getting bland marinara, no matter what the menu says, but this one had a good, strong, herbs and garlic flavor. I was a fan. For my first ever deep dish, I got the Chicago Classic (Pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers & onions). What else would I have chosen? This thing was a beast. It was so thick and dense and hefty. I get a slice, admire the impressive cheese pull, and slap it down on my plate. It was delicious. The crust was thick and strong. It held up to the overwhelming amount of toppings within. The toppings were perfectly cooked. The veggies had a good bite, but they were definitely cooked through. The cheese was like a giant, melty block of cheese melted on top about an inch thick. So good. So good. I really loved the pizza, and I will have it again. I am grateful for this place for giving me a positive first experience with deep dish pizza. read more

Yummm! While in Chicago, it was on our list to get deep dish pizza. Giordano's is like the Starbucks of Chicago- one on every corner! So we decided to give it a go as it was the closest one to where we were. They warned us it would take a little while for our pizza to cook but that was just fine with us as we weren't yet starving and had just spent the day at the Field Museum and didn't mind the rest. We ordered the deep dish (duh) pepperoni, green peppers and sausage. We went with a small and it was plenty for 2 with 2 pieces to take home! Went there after work because it was one of the only places open mid afternoon. Hostess wanted to see ID and Vax card. Ok we showed her. Went to the bar and bartender asked to see as well. Said hostess already did it. He then disappeared for 10 minutes. Manager came up and asked to see our ID and card. Told him he was the third person to ask us and maybe they should communicate better. By now we've been in the restaurant for 12-15 minutes with no drink, menus or actual people taking our order. Server Wyatt was extremely rude and rushed the entire meal. He never stopped long enough at our table to ask for drink refills and every time we tried to call him back to the table, he rushed off as if he didn't hear us. He never checked on us after the food was delivered to our table. The deep dish pizza was cold in the middle--hadn't been baked long enough. Cold sausage & cheese deep dish, not the experience we were hoping for. One of the women in our party asked after initially ordering if the sauce for her pasta could be served on the side and he said no, too late. But he hadn't ever come back to the table for 30+ minutes after we ordered so her meal wasn't what she wanted. He came to our table a total of 3 times in 1.5 hours. Ranks as a Top 3 worst dining experiences I've ever had. Since I was in Chicago, I wanted to try deep dish pizza for the first time so I came here. It was a Saturday night, and quite a bit of people were there. I sat at the bar and ordered a salad and personal pizza. I was told the pizza would be about 30-40 minute wait (it definitely was that long) but I was fine with that. My salad came, then later the pizza came. The bartender never checked on me once to ask how it was or refill my water. Chicago classic- can't go wrong. They were able to accommodate our group of 11 with 2 tables, though we waited about 35 min for the table, and then 45 min for the deep dish to bake. When I was in college like 20 years ago, I remembered Giordanos being an awesome experience and ate like 4 slices the first time I went. I had a chance to go to Chicago and despite the poor yelp reviews, decided to make a stop here. My colleague and I ordered two small pizzas - special, spinach. The meat pizza was okay. The spinach pizza is completely runny inside and made the dough soggy and raw-like. The manager insisted that the crust is not raw, and that because their recipe of using fresh spinach creates a water-fountain inside the pizza.... if it doesn't work, it's time to change it up. By the way, the spinach inside is still cold. They comp the spinach pizza. Just annoying having to hear the excuses of a bad recipe. read more

Came to Giordano's in 2014 and now 2018. I can say now that it wasn't a one time off thing. The pizza isn't as good as Lou Malnati's. Yes, there are so many other places for Deep Dish but let's face it, we are tourists and do not have a car to drive us to those amazing places so we settle for either the Lou M or Giordano's as they are everywhere. They were super nice in that I called ahead of time (while walking here) to see if they can get started on the pizza. They said YES. So pleasant to talk to and instead of waiting 35 minutes, I only waited about 15min for it. Got the personal cheese, plain chicken and tomato sauce one: The pizza lacked of many things, the thick saucy chunky feel and the freshness of the tomatoes. Also, I found the dough to be too doughy and just bread-y. Service was definitely MUCH better than Lou's. I give them that. Also, they have the games going (fifa/WSOP/Misc) which is nice. read more

Like any tourist- Giordano's is the number 1 recommended spot by locals and other tourist! I visited the famous deep dish pizza restaurant today 9.5.2022 on South Michigan Ave location. The wait was about 30 to 45 minutes which the host tells you when you are reserving a table. My friend and I decided to wait and we ordered the Super Veggie deep dish pizza. About 30 minutes past and was seated. The waiter was amazing and everything was great....but this is where everything changes for me and things go sour. I FOUND 3 SMALL PIECES OF GLASS!!! I bit into so hard that the table next to me even heard it. I spit the bite out of my moth right away and was waiting for the waiter at this point. After this experience my friend and I both lost our appetite right away, at this point you fear to even eat anything out of that kitchen. It's just really unfortunate that I and my friend were not able to enjoy the deep dish pizza experience and Chicago at this point because moments like this just spoils your day. read more

Last day in Chicago and my daughter finally said she wanted pizza. Having time to kill we walked from our hotel to grab a bite at Giordano's. I told her that when in Chicago you must try the deep dish, knowing she had never had it before. It does take approximately 45 minutes for the deep dish but it's worth the wait. Order an app to tide you over and you're golden. Having worked at a pizza chain that sold deep dish in the past Giordano's is good. I used to live in the South Loop in Museum Park Towers, and ordered frequently from this particular location. They always deliver, both to my condo- but also on the quality of the pizza and food that I choose to indulge in. This particular trip I was visiting from out of town, and some of my friends who happen to love Chicago deep dish pizza knew I was headed there so I offered to basically mule pizza back to satisfy their cravings. Just to be sure I had what I was going to need for my friends, I called yesterday to make sure there was frozen pizzas available for me to swing in and pick up on my way back to O'Hare this morning. I spoke to the manager of this location, Oscar- and he was kind and helpful. I basically reserved 3 small stuffed pizzas (which come with a freezer bag!). One cheese, one pepperoni, and one sausage. Showed up this morning and to my surprise I was able to fit the three pizzas and the freezer bag into my suitcase. Oscar provided me with some bags of ice, and also some extra bags just in case I had an issue with TSA and needed to get more ice to keep these pizzas frozen until I got back home. Since I fit the three in my bag, I decided I'd also pick up another order for my other friend who lives near me. Oscar did the same thing, with another freezer bag given to me. I made a lot of people happy today, and wanted to thank Oscar for the excellent service and his team for the assist today for being the hero to all my friends. I like Lou Malnati's better. On my latest trip to Chicago with my sister in Sept 2022, we tried both deep dish establishments and compared. We like the crust at Giordano's better, but we both liked the rest of the pizza from Lou much better. The crust is flakier and delicious. But the rest of the pizza....I think it's the lack of flavor! I didn't care too much for the pizza here. For each place, we had gotten the most popular option (the names of the pizza have left me by now) to try. I think I'll stick with Lou. While we are still newbies to the local dish, we've tried a few others (like Lou) and found this our favorite deep dish thus far. The crust was buttery but also had a good crunch. We liked the ratio of sauce to cheese, and the sauce was both nicely tangy and sweet. We'll make sure to come back and get more adventurous toppings. I would give this restaurant five stars, but lately there's been a problem with them. Whenever I call they don't have any delivery drivers, plus one time they sent me two burnt pizzas. Yes, they replaced them and gave me a $15 credit, plus an appetizer, so I guess I can't complain, too much. They said two pizzas that were really burnt around the edges entirely too much and the third pizza they sent was almost raw. It had gotten late, so I just called the next day and they gave me an appetizer and a $15 credit. I really enjoy the thin crust with sausage and pepperoni. I prefer another establishments deep dish, so I can't comment on the deep dish. The pizza is a bit pricey, because I can get the same size pizza for about $24 and I end up paying over $40 for Giordano's's medium pizza with tax, delivery and a tip. If you go on the restaurant and sit down and order a pizza you'll enjoy it. They really do make excellent pizza. read more
