The food is okay/fine, but they never get the order right and when ordering for delivery the portion of the order that you actually DO get is always cold. The fries were cold and saturated in grease. We ended up just throwing it all out. Tried giving them a second chance and they screwed it up again. We called to complain and they blamed Uber Eats. This review is solely based on the quality and taste of the food and not on the actual restaurant or it's location since I ordered delivery. That being said I won't likely go back to Gio's in the future. I was very disappointed with the quality of the chicken quesadilla I ordered from this spot. It was a good size but had absolutely zero flavor. In addition, the chicken was stringy and I had to actually spit out parts of it that were way too hard and overcooked. The vegetables were okay but the onions made the whole inside of the quesadilla extremely slimy. I would definitely urge you not to order the quesadilla if you do try Gio's. The burger that my boyfriend ordered was decently cooked so I am giving this place two stars instead of one, but can not justify giving it anymore than that. read more

We decided to check it out here since we had a coupon. It's a dive and we dove right in to the bar as if we were Cliff and Norm from Cheers. As soon as we sat down, we made friends with everyone around us. The bartender began to feel like an old friend immediately. The karaoke was super amateur, but that relieved it of any pressure and just increased the fun. The menu is standard bar food. We just had nachos and burgers, but they were not very good. Finally popped in this place after passing it on the regular for a couple years. It's your run of the mill Chicago neighborhood bar. There are plenty of TVs per the size of the place with varying sports stations on. It has a half U shaped bar with a decent selection on tap and its clientele is a mix of old curmudgeons, couples, friends and families. The food... You'll find anything in the menu you'd expect at a place like this, wings, quesadillas, burgers, chicken fingers, onion rings and bbq options. The quality is on par with what you'd get at one of those airport bars at O'Hare. It isn't epically bad but it won't rock your world. The pulled pork sandwich I got was more of a sliced pork sandwich. The bbq sauce was alright but the best thing I can say about it was the bun was toast with a friendly amount of butter. As for the Mac & Cheese, total letdown. The cheese, ricotta & milk?, didn't adhere to the noodle at all. It was almost like eating a bowl of elbow macaroni bathed in milk curds. read more

I went in around 4:30 specifically for the $5 margarita special on Tuesday's, as advertised on their website as well as the chalk board inside. The bartender was clearly too busy making a drink for the only customer in the bar to even acknowledge me when I walked in which is one of my pet peeves. She was friendly when she turned to serve me, however, when I asked which kinds of margaritas they had, she only said "regular and watermelon" without telling me that only the regular was the $5 special. I ordered nachos as well and sat on the patio, service was great from then on until i closed out my bill and found out the watermelon margarita I had was $10. When i questioned the bartender about the pricing she made it seem like it was obvious that the watermelon would be DOUBLE the price... So, since I literally only brought enough money to cover a drink, food, and tip, I no longer had any money to leave on my card and unfortunately no cash. I felt bad, but there was nothing I could do since I was overcharged. Then the bartender came out to rudely tell me that I "should have asked" because she "works for tips". I too work for tips, as a server, and am fully aware that unsatisfied customers will not leave good tips, if any at all. Aside from this margarita special debacle, and yes, I realize I am griping over $5 but it's more so the principal, the margarita was not strong, full of ice, and so many chunks of watermelon it was nearly impossible to drink from a straw, which was particularly unpleasant due to what tasted like sea salt used on the rim (classic margaritas use kosher salt). The nachos were also very underwhelming and certainly not worth $9. I am particularly disappointed as my boyfriend's apartment is next door to the restaurant, but i won't be returning. We love this place! It's our standard neighborhood joint and I can't believe I haven't reviewed them yet. What isn't there to love about this place? The patio is great. The service is predictably good (it helps that the bartenders now know us). They have decent daily specials (can't go wrong with a $5 burger). Decent beer list. They show all of the major sports games we'd care to catch. The food is decent. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's amazing, but I wouldn't expect that from a neighborhood corner bar. It's good for what it is and there isn't anything we've tried and actually disliked. The southwest burger is a solid choice, as is the buffalo chicken wrap. Keep it up Gio's. We'll be back. If you enjoy walking in and being given the side-eye by the handful of patrons there but somehow being ignored by the staff then this is definitely the place for you. Like other reviewers have stated it is definitely a friend oriented establishment. The day called for a change of pace. All softball games moved to Winnemac Park, as Folk Fest invaded Welles Park. So, where to go afterwards? A bunch of thirsty, dusty, coed rec softball players in need of beer...strolled to Gio's. The patio is fantastic. Can't beat it on a warm (yet entirely windy, I got beer spilled on me many a time, summer day in Chicago). Food was fine, just great for a bar. Pitchers of Miller Lite $9. Lots of seating, one guy running the whole bar...and doing it quite well. Def a nice place to stop in, I hear their Saturday night karaoke is pretty stellar. I went back to my old neighborhood bar to watch some soccer and grab some food and drinks. I loved the workers at Gio's and the food was great as well. I ordered the new fish tacos and they were somewhere between tasteless and bad. Some liquidy mush that looked like refried beans and a tablespoon of rice on the side. I ordered the Gios hummus plate. I think there were about 6 little pita breads and 4 small celeries. Again, a disappointment. Service was meh. I asked what their Goose Island seasonal beer was, she just poured me a pint (?). Silly us, thinking we could get a table at the Rail on ten cent wing night, and incidentally, Bears/Vikings MNF. Duh. The wait was at least thirty people deep. We took spin class to somehow justify wings, so come hell or highwater, we were having wings. It was freezing, and walking distance from the Rail only offers a few bar options. There is no way I would eat at Chicago Ale House again (three strikes.) We like Gio's for booze and the corner tap atmosphere. Done. Holy crap. The wings are AMAZING. They're 25 cents, so you may break the bank at $2.50 for dinner, but they are meaty, and I think roasted a little longer first which makes them juicy and a little less "mystery chunky", and they didn't come out in five seconds like the Rail, so I like to think they're almost made to order. It's trivia night on Monday, which is free and fun. I'm kicking myself for not trying them sooner. The hot wings are nice and buffalo-y, a good heat. The ridiculously hot (which I ordered) have a great mouth tingle. My lips were burnin' a little, but in that good way. They were a little more chipotle, with a good amount of crushed peppers. Wings are bad for you. I love them so much and can honestly stomach them every day, so I need to use a good deal of restraint and reserve them for special occasions. $2.50 at Gio's makes that very difficult. read more

Wanted to grab breakfast around my hood after a long Saturday at a cubs game and BBQ (aka we were hung over to say the least). My first thought was Glenn's Diner, bad idea, place is always packed on Sunday. Second was Over Easy Cafe on N. Damen, upon arrival, more people waiting outside for a table, no thanks. Gio's was just down the street and only had one couple sitting outside, with a quick look at the menu; we decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival the scene was typical dive bar so I was getting ready for some mediocre food. I was pleasantly surprised by this pub grub. I ordered a ham, spinach and cheese omelet complete with potatoes and toast which was very tasty. My female companion ordered the breakfast burrito which looked fantastic and tasted gourmet. The food came up quickly and both dishes were brought out by the cooks from the back (they were a little slow). Which I thought was a nice touch. Entrees prices were fair and didn't break the bank for lunch. There was only one bar tender on for the day and she did a great job holding the place down. My one qualm, hence the 4 stars, was the Bloody Mary. For 6 bucks I would expect some brand of vodka that I could recognize. This was not the case. I mean for 6 bucks I should at least get Smirnoff and not something that cost them 6 dollars for the whole bottle. Overall, Gio's was a great experience on a nice Sunday. Gios is a great neighborhood bar. Their food is awesome, especially their jumbo chicken wing that are only 25 cents on thursday. The patio is nice in the summer and they have Kareoke on Sat nights. Sometimes it gets super packed on that night. I think it has a neighborhoody bar feel, more so than some other bars in the area. Its a great first date place! The mens bathrooms kinda sucks and is divey and they could probably use a better jukebox. All in all, I love Gios. read more

Great neighborhood sports bar slingin' great burgers and cheap beer. Went here for the Bears game last night, got there around 7:30 for a night game and snagged one of the last tables available. Game day specials of $4.00 drafts and $3.00 patty melts are key in keeping you entertained for the first 3 quarters of the Bears game until Cutler finally decides to play. There are also a good amount of tv's around playing other games so you can keep tabs on your fantasy players. Their beer list is pretty good and I had a real tough time choosing. Ultimately I went with stella, which made me feel like a genius! Service was great, very friendly bar staff!. They serve plenty of other things as well, most just look like standard bar food though. Stick with the 1/2 lb BAR BURGERS and cheap beer and you can't go wrong at this place. I will definitely find myself at this place for some more games this year. read more

Ah, Gios. I used to live on Lawrence, near Damen and remember a dark time in my life when I visited this neighborhood bar every night... and every night was a long one. Then, Gios was a little different. The regulars were SO classic it was ridiculous: middle-aged men in pullover starter jackets, drunk and happy to get away from their homes for awhile. I could always watch "the game", no matter what that happened to be and the place was always a bit grimy, and there was always someone to drunk to avoid putting his arm around me. Somehow, these things make you feel at home. Charlotte, the bar tender was wonderful and new what how to treat everyone, even the jerks that needed to get kicked out (sometimes by a fed up regular). The owners can sometimes be a little curt, even rude, but that was fine too. Closing time was closing time and drunken 65-year-old men don't seem to speak English at 1:45 Over the past couple of years, though, the crowd has gotten a little younger (and, dare I say, a little less humorous) as of recent but has led to some improvements on the place. There are a couple more bartenders (also younger) that are amazingly friendly and attentive. "The game" is always on with their 5 decently-sized plasma screens and the place has gotten a little bit brighter. It seems more Andersonville now with it's dog bowls outside, which isn't bad. One thing hasn't changed... The food. Let it be known that, although the menu itself is a bit bipolar, it's seemingly perfect for a bar. It is simple enough to not necessitate in depth food choosing for the intoxicated (BONUS!!) and it specializes in 2 types of cuisine: Greasy American and Mexican. Perfect!! The burgers are fantastic and have only improved over the years with hand-cut fries I had hoped for added to the menu recently. The Mexican side of the menu is equally as competent. I personally love the chilaquiles. The brunch menu isn't bad either, though the potato in the breakfast burrito can be a bit overwhelming as large chunks of starch. Overall, for my money (which they don't steal from me in large heaps) this place has fantastic, no frills bar fare cooked by some amazing guys. The beer selection itself is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL. they'll have one of just about every type of beer you want, so if you want that hard-to-find micro-brew you like, get the hell out of Chicago. It's by no means is this a limited selection, people; it is functional. Artisan beers are for people looking to drink one and those aren't the people who come to Gios. But if you want a flavorful chaser after someone passes you a shot (unless you are the passer, which this place will make you want to be) this is a great place. This is a place to drink and be merry, not drink and critique. Adding to the Merriment is the patio. There is NOTHING like drinking eating and talking to friends sitting on a Lincoln Square Corner on Sunday afternoon. Hell, you might be taking in a little "hair-of-the-dog" after Saturday's karaoke. This is my favorite place to go. Apparently, it's a lot of peoples favorite, since it fills up quickly. My one complaint is that this place is too small to house the number of awkward singers who get off on a great night run by Chris the short, charismatic karaoke master. The song selection is better than almost anyplace (save for Trader Todd's, which kind stinks) and Chris himself is a fantastic singer if the crowd is being timid. This bar is so neighborly and well-rounded, that you HAVE to respect it as one of fewer and fewer bastions of what a Chicago bar is supposed to be: Wooden, dark, friendly, warm and inviting. My boyfriend and I live right down the street from Gio's, so it's our go-to spot whenever we don't feel like making dinner or going out farther away for a drink. And, seriously, I never want to move to another neighborhood because I think I'd miss Gio's too much. It's a bar with food that's not "bar food." I always order the grilled cheese, which is made with thick, buoyant brioche bread that is crisp and buttery to perfection. Sometimes we get guacamole as an appetizer, and they make it to order, so it's always fresh and delicious. I practically want to lick my plate afterwards. The staff is friendly and attentive. They always remember us and make us feel welcome. Chris, who runs the karaoke, is an absolute character. He always says "hi" when I see him around town. And, of course, I've gotten to know some of the other regulars too. It makes Ravenswood feel like a small, quaint town where you really know your neighbors in the midst of a giant city. read more

Fave spot for karaoke. FAVE. And there are a lot of karaoke joints in Chicago. Also, just an all-around great place to hang out with your neighbors. 1) Karaoke hosts are awesome. Chris and the other hosts are fantastic, and will look up songs if they aren't in the books. Some places just won't bother. They want to ensure you have a GREAT time. 2) The crowd is fantastic. Bartenders get into the mix. Almost everyone there is from the neighborhood and is friendly. You can bomb your song and still get a standing ovation (not so much at Louie's). 3) You actually get to karaoke more than once a night! Most nights, my friends and I get to go up at least 3 or 4 times. It's a packed crowd, but packed here is about 40 people, vs. crowded at some places which means 100 people. 4) Food is good for bar food. I'd gotten little things here and there, but read a Yelp review previously that mentioned "tater tachos". THOSE ARE MY JAM. Best creation ever. 5) Bartenders rock. James and Jason (and the other bartenders who make an appearance here and there) are amazing...fast service, supppper friendly, and make you feel welcome. We're fairly regular karaoke-ers, and these guys will come up and give us a hug welcoming us in. Best bar staff in the city. If you are looking for a high-end establishment, I'll admit - Gio's is probably not for you. It's a neighborhood bar, a little divey, and LOUD on karaoke night (which is sort of expected since people are belting out songs).
