Made that return visit! Just as tasty as the first time. An Italian Chicken Salad, a Beef Kabob Plate, and Luigi's Special. YUMMY. This time we tried dessert, too. Enjoyed Fried Ice Cream, Cream Puffs, and Tiramisu. This time we stepped in for dinner. Admittedly, for the "hidden gem" this place is, I was surprised by how many people have found it! I'm going to start with the negatives and end with the positives. We asked our waitress for the appetizer, yogurt with garlic dip, and she forgot about it even though she repeated it back to us. The same thing happened with our order of a side salad. It never came. The service was a little slow, at some points I liked not being disturbed because I was slowly falling in love with the atmosphere of the outside patio. The mountains were hypnotizing. My boyfriend, on the other hand, did not get one refill for his soda. The beginning bread took forever to come out. Our server explained that other customers in the restaurant were preparing to fast so that's why she was lagging on coming outside. There was a steady flow of customers, so it probably was very busy inside. Now for the positives... Our server was friendly. The patio atmosphere was perfect. The mignon kabobs were delicious! The white clam pasta was pretty good. My boyfriend liked his lasagna. The yogurt garlic dip was addictive!!! I also had stone cellar Chardonnay which was a great compliment to meal. I would often drive by the restaurant after a hike and finally took a Sunday afternoon to try it to see if it was suitable for a Mother's Day get together. First when we pulled up, the outside smelled really good. We had high hopes! Inside, well it didn't smell as good. When we walked in, the guy said how many? (He must have been a regular) she said "what" as if she was the old one! He repeated himself and as soon as the man turned his head the broad rolled her eyes and shook her head... My family and I instantly pissed... we have been standing there by now almost 20 mins and beyond pissed that this woman was so disrespectful! If you hate your job that much, quit. People come to eat, enjoy their family, friends company and PAY, let me repeated MYSELF PAY for some good service and some food! We are very upset about our experience! We have loved this place for the past decade, but I am really impressed with their high standards of covid safety - employees work masks, plexi partition at check out with clean pens to sign the check and well-spaced tables. Food is great, excellent Persian food. However, the service is terrible. Waiter named "Harry" is impatient and rude. He mixed up our drink orders three times and when he took refills he took the cups and brought them back and gave the to the wrong people in the party. I had to get up several times and ask other waiters for service because Harry was nowhere to be found. When we got ice cream he quickly set it down and took off leaving no spoon again requiring that I get up and ask another waiter for help. I don't think any of this should be any surprise to the owner or the other servers as it's obvious he is a terrible waiter. Some dear friends took me to this place. I found the whole set-up VERY intriguing...An Italian SLASH Persian place? How could this be? How did this come about? So I quizzed the owner... Originally from Persia, the owner spent most of his early years working in Italian restaurants. When working in an Italian restaurant in Arizona, his friends asked him to cook up some traditional Persian food, and that's how the Italian/Persian concept got started. He then transported the concept from Arizona to Upland, CA, when he was notified that Giuseppe's was for sale. Anyway, I wasn't up for Italian, and neither were my dining comrades, so Persian it was. Nice place with unmatched service. No one greeted us when we walked in, felt like "a thousand" waiter/waitress walked by us but no one had time to even say "hi "or "how many people?" Their kabobs are amazing and I highly recommend them to anyone that orders here! Their food portions are great and their staff is always kind. My family has also catered from them and their catering portions are equally as large! We went to this restaurant after not being there for a few years and quickly realized why. The service is horrible! We ordered a pizza for pick up and stood at the counter for 10 min with employees walking past us. Nobody even would give us eye contact let alone help us pick up our pizza. The place was busy and we weren't the only ones waiting to be acknowledged. Then a customer from the dining room came and stood next to me trying to get someone's attention because it had been so long since she had seen her waitress. A woman who I think was a mgr/owner passed us a few times, ignoring all of us, while going to clear tables. The pizza was just ok and definitely not worth lame service. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem in San Antonio Heights. The food here was delish! I had the chicken kabob and it was so flavorful. The rice was so light and great flavor. My husband had the ravioli and spaghetti with meatballs. He said it was good but needed a little salt. My daughter had the pizza with all the meat toppings and she gave it two thumbs up. I used to live in the area and would go here because the food was good and it's a place where people like me can get good Persian food and people who don't want Persian food can get good Italian food...so everyone is happy. Now I've moved away to Phoenix and when I go back to SoCal, I make sure I go here because they cook my meal perfectly--moist--oh so moist--chicken kabobs. Instead of rice I ask for the grilled veggies--they are very accommodating and give me a huge serving of grilled veggies--no extra charge and no grief about substituting the veggies for the rice. The owner's brother has a similar restaurant in Scottsdale..not naming names. The food is much better at Giuseppe's...much, much better. Scottsdale restaurant won't substitute anything--told me I had to order the veggie meal in order to get veggies. But this review isn't about Scottsdale, it's about Giuseppe's in Upland, CA. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the food and the owner. I was there Monday night and am sorry I missed her--I wanted to tell her (again) how much I love their food!
