Great place for lunch! Shrimp and grits were pretty amazing, as were the brisket tacos and a pimento/pickle appetizer! Natasha was our server and she was great!! I would recommend Glenn's kitchen whether you're staying at the hotel or not. I will say however that their breakfast is quality but not nearly as inventive and exciting as the lunch or dinner menus. Had a group of 10 and needed a place to dine and catch up after the game. Drinks and apps came quickly and the service was excellent throughout the meal. We pretty much ordered the entire menu end all we're happy with all the exception of the chickpea sticks offered with the salmon. We were in town for the Super Bowl and really enjoyed this "hidden gem" rooftop bar. We only had drinks not apps. I wish we had ordered them so I could comment. Bar menu seemed small and limited. The drinks were really good. It was not super crowded and there was live entertainment. The outdoor portion of the lounge was great and has an awesome view of the city and Mercedes Benz stadium. Nice place to watch the sunset and take a few pictures of the city skyline. I would recommend having drinks on the roof anytime you are in ATL. read more

Just a beautiful place to sit down and eat inside the Glenn hotel. Upscale decor and chic style is interesting. Of course the food and customer service is great. Vibe: This place is located in an historic hotel and has that sort of upscale vibe to it, with plenty of dimly lit areas, lots of hardwood, and a grand staircase. It isn't pretentious, though, and is a great location for a date or business dinner. The staff are hospitable and knowledgeable of their menu. Vittles: The menu has a little of everything without being overextended. The focus felt to be on new South cuisine with elements of the Low Country. My companion and I had the truffle fries and crab cake for appetizers. The crab cake was lumpy and blue crab sweet, without an overabundance of filler. It came with a nice creamy sauce that complimented it very well. As someone who lived in Maryland, I approve, even though it lacked, from what I could tell, the Old Bay :) For entrees, we had the fish special, which looked good, and the Georgia chicken, which was divine. Both came with cheese grits, which were prepared fantastically with just the right proportion of cheese to grits. We also had some wine (they have a decent variety), a margarita (too sweet), cosmos (perfect), and a Kentucky ginger, which was fantastic, although the second one did taste a little sweeter than the first. I also have to comment on their glassware, which was some of the best I've seen. It was that heavy etched glass and it was amazing. Verdict: Here's the downside: All of this came to $150. I felt that was a little steep for what we had, but the food was good. In hindsight, it was probably the six drinks that really escalated the bill, although the chicken itself was over $20 and was what I considered a small serving. The crab cake was large, however, and so I suppose that set the expectation for the other means not being measly. The fish, too, was on the light side. Looking back, I recall both entrees came with grits. The fish also included potatoes. I think there probably is an attempt to go you up on carbs while skimping of the protein. This hotel is very beautiful but the service at Glenn's SkyLounge was very poor. I work nearby and our team likes to go to happy hour in the area often. We ventured up to the SkyLounge one day because it was one of those days where it was not so unbearably hot here. First thing: the first table we sat at had a dead cockroach smushed in the side of the table. Gross right? We understood it is outside so these things happen in GA, but when we told the waitress, she shrugged it off. Excuse me? Second thing: our actual waitress was very rude and not that knowledgable concerning the menu and the beers. Considering it was a one page menu... Third thing: only hotel in the area with no happy hour special? They used to have a sangria pitcher last year that was reasonably priced but they even got rid of that. I really don't like leaving bad reviews but really the service here made it so I will not come back. read more

Went there for a friend's birthday dinner. Let me start out by saying the entire hotel is very cool. The rooftop SkyLounge is a must see. Live music. The restaurant's ambiance is great. Perfect for a nice dinner out. A very good selection of items. The food was top notch and the service was good too. I had the GA chicken sandwich with a side of cheese grits and it was delicious. My friend had blackened salmon tacos and she loved it. Another friend and the birthday girl had the steak frites and they raved about it. Glenn's Kitchen, located downtown in Glenn Hotel, offers a more sophisticated touch to American comfort and classic food. Perfect for date nights if you're wanting to dine downtown somewhere and then maybe take a walk around Centennial Park or even ride the Ferris Wheel afterwards. The menu is medium in length so it's not overbearing to look at. I recommend the Smoked Trout Dip as a starter, the best Apple Cider Brined Pork Chop I've ever had for an entree of choice, and the fluffy, sweet Bread Pudding for dessert. ATMOSPHERE/DESIGN: 3 Since it's located in a hotel, it's going going to be themed to it. The restaurant is set up very ordinarily and doesn't offer too much uniqueness to their design. All the table are spaced out pretty far from each other so you'll definitely get your own space. PARKING: There's a valet parking garage right next to the hotel. Ask your server to validate your ticket and you should be good to go. FOOD: 4 We started off with the Smoked Trout Dip with Lavash Crackers. They use local trout and blend different herbs to give it a kick. The dip with the Lavash crackers, which had toasted sesame seeds sprinkled on top, was simply amazing. Excellent pairing. For our entrees, we ordered the Grilled Swordfish Steak and the Apple Cider Brined Pork Chop. The swordfish was cooked to the right temperature, but I wasn't too fond of the seasoning that went on there. It felt like it was missing something. It was paired with sauteed broccolini, steamed herbed farro (grains of wheats), and meyer lemon butter sauce. The pork chop was probably the BEST pork chop I've ever to this date. It was cooked to perfection, exactly the perfect temperature, and paired with brown butter mashed sweet potatoes and apple-brussel sprout hash with pancetta. Both of those sides were extremely good! One of the best dishes I've ever had. For dessert we had the bread pudding. It was topped with a sweet caramel sauce and decorate with whip cream and fresh berries on the side. It was really good and fluffy tasting. Just the right dessert to end the meal. SERVICE: 4 Service was good. Our server was friendly, sweet, and really accommodating. OVERALL: 4 I was really satisfied with my meal at Glenn's Kitchen. Wasn't a huge fan of the swordfish, but it wasn't my entree of choice so I didn't have to finish it off. In Atlanta for a convention. My husband and I are foodies and our bar is high. We only write reviews when food is exceptional or very bad. Glenn's Kitchen gets 5 stars! The chef, Matt Decker does an amazing job combining classic dishes with refreshing twists! We highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates, trout dip and Maryland Crab cakes with succatash. Our waiter was Jevon Loving and we enjoyed his professionalism, recommendations and wonderful personality. We were staying at the Omni for the meeting but will consider staying at the Glenn Hotel in the future because of it's unique, boutique feel. We enjoyed drinks at their rooftop bar before dinner. MAGNIFICENT VIEWS! Going back tomorrow for their bread pudding tomorrow for lunch with warm bourbon icing! This review is a bit biased because I only visited Glenn's Kitchen for the complimentary breakfast for Marriott Gold members. Each person is allowed to pick two items from a list which includes things like yogurt, granola, oatmeal, fresh fruit, eggs, grits, toast, and a bagel. It's a very limited menu but what they have they do well. I would have liked an option for a waffle or breakfast sausage, but hey it's free so I really can't complain. The service was friendly and pretty quick. My boyfriend forgot to request his oatmeal without cranberries and almonds and they brought him a new order with just brown sugar. I don't think that Glenn's Kitchen is a destination restaurant, but it fits the bill for hotel guests who don't want to venture far for a meal. read more

We were tryin' to ball on a budget, so we came to Glenn's because I had a Scout Mob deal. It worked out really well. We were seated promptly, we had a lovely server (Dwayne, you really are THE man), and the food and drinks were top notch. In addition to our drinks (we didn't try any specialty cocktails...just wine and beer cause we're classically cool), my freind and I shared the smoked salmon appetizer and the fish taco entree. The flavor in the fish tacos was there, but I felt the actual filet pieces were overcooked...a bit crispy if you ask me. BUT, it was still good enough for me to eat. The salmon appetizer was so good. Smooth, melt-in-your-mouth pieces of salmon over thin pieces of toasted bread with cream cheese, capers and greens? Yeah, a good summer dish. Actually, my freind and I thought we could have downed a few of those appetizer portions. Really great. Though the food was good, I was most impressed with the service. Especially when we had a little issue with our bill. We got the bill and noticed that we were charged $6 for the beers instead of $5, which was the price on the menu. Then, I noticed the Pinot Noir I ordered (Cooper Hill, which was the only PN on the menu available by the glass at $11 a glass) appeared differently on the bill (under a different name and $14 a glass). Normally, I wouldn't fret over stuff like this, but since we were watching our pennies this particular evening, AND with both price discrepancies, we were talking about being overcharged $8 (hey, that's another drink at the show!), we brought it to the attention of our waiter. He said he would look into it and get back to us. And he did...the next time we saw Dwayne, he apologized for the mix up and said the restaurant recently changed it's Pinot featured on the menu. Since that change wasn't reflected on the menu, he made it right by just removing one of my glasses of wine. I thought that was the absolute perfect move, and--believe me--our appreciation for his attention was reinforced by his tip. So, I would definitely go back to Glenn's before an event at Philips or maybe even just for a cocktail/appetizer/happy hour situation after work. It's a cool place to chill and watch the world go by. Terrible. God made Yelp specifically for restaurants like this. If I would have taken 30 seconds to pull out my damn cell phone and looked up other reviews, we would have gone elsewhere... but nope. #facepalm Sign #1 things were off to a poor start - Thursday night with over 25k+ people in town across three conferences and Glenn's Kitchen was immediately able to seat a party of 9. They could have sat 8-10 parties of 4, too, because the place was deserted. Sign #2 - "The special tonight is some Italian pasta noodle called carber-carba-niner-cabaloola. It's got artichoke, chicken and other stuff in it." Holy crap, high-speed, take a pad of paper out and write the dish name and ingredients down if you have to. But really? You can't remember one dish? Sign #3, because apparently I'm in "let's make a list" mode - we order a bottle of pinot noir with three glasses. Waiter returns with an ice bucket and proceeds to pour out 95% of the contents of the bottle into said three glasses. He then jams the bottle into the ice bucket, presumably to chill the gnat's ass remaining portion of wine that wouldn't fit into the three glasses he just poured. The "room service menu into a restaurant" quote was spot on. The food itself was anywhere from bland to o.k. and didn't take too long to come out. We were constantly waiting for the server to figure out things like what drinks went where, what made the grits mushy vs. creamy, etc. I almost feel bad for hating on the place (check my profile, I generally don't give out 1 stars), but this was just terrible. I'd sooner wait in line for 6 hours with a bus full of retirees for Gladys Knight's mediocre chicken then come back to Glenn's Chicken. read more

Even though I'm not in Atlanta anymore, I'm always visiting...pretty often. Recently, I stopped in Glenn's Kitchen for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and was very pleased. We decided to sit at the bar (much more entertaining) and naturally, lunch started with a cocktail. A delicious cocktail I might add. I coould have just had the cocktail for lunch. The cocktail had some great flavors including: jalapeno. So good. Not too spicy but just enough to remind you. Food was tasty. I ordered a lemon marinated chicken sandwich and I loved it. My date ordered the shrimp and grits (with duck sausage) and was quite impressed. What really made the experience worth it was the staff. Our bartender/waiter was really nice, attentive and made sure he explained everything to us, which is never a bad thing. I find the service for dinner to be quite good. I had dinner here twice when I stayed at the hotel. The food is better than I expected and somewhat creative. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits along with the Soup of the Day (Potato), the crab cake and the Chef's tacos with truffle fries. I am a bit of a picky eater, but everything was delicious especially the crab cake!!! I am in heaven right now! The ambiance of the place is nice quiet lighting with contemporary accents. Very nice. I've eaten here several times at every time of day. Great breakfast. There are choices for the big breakfast eager to the light eater. All of the ingredients are delicious. Lunch - the yum continues at lunch time. I've had the turkey burger with braised greens. It was really quite delicious. Finally - dinner. I am not a heavy dinner eater and this is yet another reason why I keep coming back. Last night it was the Fish tacos. Blackened salmon with succotash. Of course if you want to eat something larger like a steak or whatever they won't disappoint there either. Even though I'm in a huge city like Atlanta with hundreds of choices, Glenn's has proven itself as one of those go to places in the downtown restaurant scene. read more

See, this is why I love Scoutmob. Sig picked up takeout based on the 50% off deal; located not too far from the CNN center downtown. I wish there were half-stars, cuz I'd bump this to 3.5. Bacon-wrapped shrimp and grits: Really tasty with some kind of this sauce that is great over the grits (the grits where REALLY tasty). The only complaint I have is that the bacon could have stood to be cooked longer. This tends to happen when good ingredients like seafood are paired with bacon. They cook at different temperatures, so, you either have rubbery, overcooked seafood or near-raw bacon. The flavors where all there, though, so, I'd suggest just asking the waiter to make sure the bacon's cooked through. Grilled Cheese and Sweet Potato Fries: Surprisingly, this thing was actually really good. A fancy grilled cheese, mind you, but a comfort-foody tasty choice. Jack Daniels Bread Pudding: really great sauce, liked the consistency of the bread pudding itself. read more

Don't stay at the Glenn and don't eat at the Glenn Kitchen. Do it on your own risk. We asked to order right away this morning as we were in a time crunch. I understand the waitstaff is busy but don't say "I'll be right with you" three times when we already said we are ready to order and ignore us for 18 minutes when I actually got up to go to the wait staff area to literally flag a person down to take our order. When I asked for the orders to be brought with our receipts, don't make us wait another 10 minutes for the checks. Yes, I asked for separate checks for we were paying separately yet only one check was given for the sum total. We waited so long to get our food that we had to ask for something to go instead. I had to literally chase a waitstaff down to pay! Therefore, don't get all indignant when we did not tip and shout after us in front of everyone in the restaurant when you had terrible service. Tip is given for good service. It is not a given right. read more

So after reading all the reviews, I can't say the food was awful at all. I had a few menu items and I was quite pleased. The Bibb Salad with apples and pomegranate is pretty darn tasty. I added grilled shrimp which took it to a whole other level. I also had the Scallops over Risotto. I enjoyed both. It wasn't perfect but it's worth more than no stars or one star. The service was always outstanding. I did have an omelet which I thought was a bit undercooked and runny so I didn't eat that but everything else was good. It seems Glenn's Kitchen provides all of the food in the hotel, the restaurant, the living room area and the bar. I have no complaints about Glenn's Kitchen itself but one evening, we sat in the living room area and ordered drinks and appetizers. The waitress forgot everything I asked for. I had to ask for a straw for the same coke three times and she was very slow. Maybe she was working alone, not sure but that is my only gripe. read more

Okay! A client was staying there and so we met for breakfast. Let's start with the service - the guy was nice, but not attentive at all. I'm NOT overly picky or demanding about service...but my coffee was consumed like 30-minutes and we wondered when he might return to the table. The menu was average in selection and price. The food simply was NOT good. Not very much to say...the eggs were powdered I'm thinking based on appearance, texture and taste. The chicken sausage was cool - but I could get it at Whole Foods I'm sure. The atmosphere was cool - just again wondering since we were the only ones there for breakfast why the service was so slow. Eight (8) of us in total. I won't return for breakfast. The service here is nothing to rave about. We waited for over 25minutes for a bagel and french toast when there were only two other tables in the restaurant. People that came in afer us got served before us. When they brought out the bagel, they forgot the cream cheese. They also forgot the strawberries and powdered sugar that was supposed to be on the French toast. Our waitress went back to the kitchen and took 5 min to bring them back to us. Not to mention I was only given 1 1/2 sliced strawberries. Ridiculous considering they charge $12 a plate. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. When the waitress took our credit card for the bill it took forever for her to bring it back to us and we literally saw it just sitting on a counter. I stayed in the Glenn hotel for a business trip and Glenn's kitchen was conveniently located in the lobby. I had dinner there the first night and hostess was great, waiter was great. Service was reeeeeally quick, I was in and out the door in 45mins with appetizer, entree and dessert check paid. So why the three stars?.. Something was off about the service, I was by myself considering it was a business trip. The manager came over asking if everything was ok, if everything was good, waiter paid extra close attention to me refilling my water the moment it was empty. It took me a little while to realize, with all the other filled tables around, I was the only table that they treated that way. The manager didn't visit the other tables, just mine about 7 times. I think they were thinking I was some sort of secret shopper from Zagat or something it was just a little off. Not that I'm complaining about it but I don't think service should be isolated to impressing someone who they believe is a critic. To test the theory, I went for breakfast the next day and it was the type of service I read about in last reviews. Waitress came over very little, different manager walked around, didn't come to my table, didn't get refill on my coffee as much as I wanted. It was just average. To deliver good service it needs to be for everyone, not one person and consistent. That to me is what makes it a five star restaurant. Overall, the food was excellent a little over priced for the portion sizes, the kale salad with add on grilled chicken was 17$!! Yikes! But it was really good. The chocolate lava dessert cake was really dry, I didn't care too much for it, the appetizer potato chips were reeeeeeally good highly recommend. The white- and green-striped ravioli slipped across the chicken broth-drenched plate. (The menu description boasted a lemon sauce, but it tasted like poultry to me.) What appeared to be pureed mushroom matter filled the pasta, topped with the occasional piece of sauteed spinach, diced fresh tomato and goat cheese crumble. A big chicken breast, grilled and sliced, sat on the very top as if to cluck, "Get a cocktail! It's Friday after all!" I assume he is like that to all his customers or he was just being overly helpful to me because there were only 2 other customers dining that morning. Also, I must make note that I ordered green tea. I came here on Valentine's day with my girl friend (yes, girl SPACE friend) and her parents. My friend works in the hotel industry and she had wanted to check out this spot. It's located downtown right by the Phillips Arena. We had a reservation and got seated right away. The wine was excellent, everything on the menu looked amazing, although a little pricey- entrees were 25-40 dollars although the more pricey ones were specials. I had the pork which was cooked perfectly but everyone else had to send their food back because it was under cooked. Like very under cooked. They brought it back out shortly. Everyone enjoyed the flavors and didn't make a big fuss about the mistake. I'm not sure if they comped the meal because I didn't see the check... After dinner, we went up to the rooftop bar for another glass of wine. They have it enclosed in the winter with heat lamps so you can still sit comfortably. This may be the second "holy cow!" I've awarded. This place is very deserving of it, too. The food was supurb. We started with Charcuterie that was more than just small cuts on a board with some cheese. Everything was top notch, served elegantly, and brought my expectations for everyone else up a couple of notches. The sea scallops were the best I've ever had. Ever. Seriously. And if I've said that before, scratch it--these are the zenith! The kale salad was done nicely (not the amateur junk I serve dinner guests at my house), and the bisque is so good that you may consider cutting anyone who tries to invade your personal space during your enjoyment of it. My colleagues each got something different, with each reporting that their meals were as delicious as they were beautifully plated. Everything was so good that we all left thankful that we had a car waiting to take us back to our hotel! The wine list was a little lacking, but we were able to find a couple of bottles to open that were just right. If that is the worst you have to deal with, you are doing pretty darn good. So if you're in Atlanta (business or pleasure), spend the money and come here. It is well worth it! read more
