I used to love Gogi Time but there's no doubt that the pandemic has affected their business. There used to be a day when Gogi Time boasted the best range of meats and LA Galbi. Sadly, those days are no more. The last two times I've visited Gogi Time, the meat seemed underwhelming. The portion control seemed off, and overall just didn't seem like I had a "Gogi Time" dinner if you know what I mean. Now granted most of the staff seems new or changed, so I can definitely understand where some things fall through the cracks. Just wish it wouldn't happen to Gogi Time. Gogi Time is open outdoors during Covid Time! It is so hard to find a Korean BBQ place open nowadays and given it is outdoors, we felt pretty safe and luckily it was also during the warm time of the year (Jul). I don't know how I would feel when it drops below 60s and we have to eat outdoors. Hope they get those heat lamps! Not sure if there's been a change in ownership recently, but Gogi Time is not how I use to remember it to be. The meats were very poor quality, bland, and lacked the proper seasonings. Brisket is usually my favorite, but not here. The brisket was frozen, cut thick, and super tough. We didn't bother cooking the other half of the brisket. Plus, the grill was never hot enough anyways, so why bother wasting more time on such a terrible meal. To top it off, I was charged 18% for our table of five, when the bill clearly states 18% tip is added to parties of 5+. Didn't bother arguing with the server, as everyone wanted to leave the horrendous meal ASAP. I was embarrassed to bring my out of town guest to this disappointing meal. We originally was trying to get Blind Tiger food, but it looks like Gogi Time and Blind Tiger merged during Covid. There's only about 5 dishes and 5 cocktails available from Blind Tiger. Sat indoors pretty quick with our reservation, but saw there was a line for those who didn't have one. We opted for the AYCE at Gogi Time and was not disappointed. I'm vegan and I came here with a non-vegan/non-vegetarian group who was having Korean bbq. I ordered off the regular menu while they ordered off the bbq menu. I came on a very busy night and had a hard time understanding everything our server said when I asked about the vegan options and since I wasn't totally sure about all the items, I ordered one that I was familiar with and sure about. I got the Tofu Dol Sot Bibimbab without egg. It wasn't bad, but it was mostly rice, which I wasn't happy about. I would have liked it better if there were more veggies, tofu, etc. It was also a really big bowl and I try not to waste food, but there was no space left just to keep eating plain rice, so I had to waste a few spoonfuls. For my vegan friends, note that there are options if you need to eat here, but I wouldn't seek out the food unless I had to be here. Not the cheapest, just the best! The wait here can be unbearable but if you have a large party you can call ahead for a reservation. Although it's not written anywhere, the AYCE is two hours. Year ago they use to use charcoal (which in my opinion) was more flavorful. Instead they switch to gas grills. There's many pluses here starting with the large tables. Unlike some other AYCE that can only fit a dish or two, you can actually load up four or five dishes with room to spare. Their side dishes aren't the star here and their appetizers comes in nice small portions. A tofu soup is the size of two rice bowl and their Kimchi Pancake has nine small pieces. Their sodas come in a can, but for a meal like this, try their Soji Sake bomb. It's not something to get drunk of but very refreshing with the BBQ meal. read more

They did seem pretty busy but it was clear that we were ready to order and I had even tried to flag someone down to get their attention but that was a fail. It's been a long time since I've eaten at Gogi Time and I honestly forgot how good it was! After frequenting other KBBQ joints in the south bay, I realize that they to not compare to Gogi Time. The food was solid, the service was attentive, and the wait was very short (I came at 6pm on a Sunday and waited for about 10 minutes). The restaurant interior wasn't anything fancy; it could use a little freshening up though! The service went smoothly overall. The waiters were attentive, more-so in the beginning as there were less people, but as the place started to fill up, they came by less, which was understandable. I was impressed with the number of grill changes though-it was a whopping six times! Maybe we don't know how to cook the meat properly and the grill keeps charing haha, but I was glad they paid attention to us. Now onto the food! The food, obviously, was the highlight of the night. Everything we ate was delicious. I liked how they had appetizers and soups included in the AYCE package. We loaded up on some japchae, steamed egg, tofu soup, and cheese corn. My Korean buddy kept mentioning how authentic the food tasted-I would trust him as he grew up eating KBBQ. For the meats, my favorites, even though everything tasted amazing, were the LA Galbi, garlic pork belly, and the beef ribs. Marinade was on point, some places *cough* Gen, make the marinade too strong, or the flavors are just off. Gogi Time's marinade was just right, really bringing out that Umami flavor. The reason why I am leaving 2/3 out of 5 stars is because I have higher standards for a kbbq restaurant. Don't get me wrong, this place is okay if you need somewhere to eat and want to be satisfied (if you don't care about the things I am going to list). First, I think the food was pretty mid. I would say about a B tier, i've had better selection of meats for cheaper and they barely had any banchan (the sides). The banchan selection was 4 things: the bean sprouts, cucumber, mushroom, and kimchi. Multiple other kbbq places in Oakland and beyond have a broad assortment of banchan so I was pretty disappointed with that. The Japchae was kinda dry and overcooked? And the brisket tasted like nothing?? The Galbi had mostly fat, so there wasn't much meat to eat other than fat.. Total the food was about 40 each, but it really didn't feel deserving of that price. There is another place I enjoy called Jong Ga House that prices at 32 instead, and they have SUCH a better selection of food. Next, they serve all the sauces and sides in little plastic containers. I get that that might be a covid related thing, but I haven't seen that at other restaurants and it makes the experience less enjoyable. They give us plastic cutlery.., again.. fine, but it kinda feels like this place is cutting corners and not providing the best food or ambience for it being 40 dollars each. The soda was 2.5 dollars when originally it's like 1 dollar or less. Just saying from the perspective of a college student who appreciates getting what you pay for. I left it to Hubbers to decide what to have for dinner after what felt like a long day. He thought we couldn't go wrong with AYCE K*BBQ, so off we went! All their parking spots were occupied but we found street parking right at the exit. Yay for us since we were starving! There was only one party ahead and were told it should only be around a 15-minute wait. Fair enough, since we didn't make reservations. But that oh, so, delicious aroma of meat permeating the air paired with that sizzling sound made the wait longer than it really was. Not even 10 minutes when we were called to our table. It's a really nice surprise to have EVERYTHING prepped before you get there: banchan, utensils, water, rice paper. I thought this was brilliant - it's a great way to save time! For starters, we went with kimchi pancake and steamed egg. For the grill, we went for the beef brisket, beef tongue, pork belly and spicy pork spare ribs to start. I also asked for a small order of white rice. We were delivered an order of potstickers. Hubbers and I know we didn't order them, so we made one of our servers aware of it as he delivered a couple meat plates to grill (brisket and pork belly.) We were told not to worry that what we ordered is on its way. (They decided to just leave 'em on our table.) Kimchi pancake was interesting. It held its kimchi essence and provided a good crunch. I was a bit surprised at the flavor and seasoning of the steamed egg. It had a good balance of salt and a very slight sweet to it. The flavor popped at each bite, I liked it. Brisket and pork belly were as expected. It's pretty comparable to many K*BBQ places. The beef tongue was sliced thin which Hubbers and I liked as it cooked swiftly. As we emptied one plate, we realized we hadn't gotten our ribs yet. As timing goes, our server came through to ask how everything was going. We reminded her of the ribs. She said, "Yes, they're still prepping it." Instead, we got beef spare ribs. We didn't want them to go to waste and it's not like we were disappointed. We went ahead and grilled them anyway. And since Hubbers and I knew we were gonna be full with the last order of brisket, we decided to simply send it back. Besides, it was "last call." As you may be well aware, there aren't a lot of AYCE Korean Places in the Bay Area. I've been to a few in the South Bay and SF, and none of them really compare to Gogi Time. Gogi Time is one of a few AYCE Korean joints in Oakland (including Jong Ga House and Ohgane) -- Gogi Time being my favorite. Yeah, sure the wait can be incredibly long if you come during peak hours, but for the price, variety of meats and side dishes, and pretty decent service, the price can't be beat. I've only come here during dinner time on weekends (26.95$ for AYCE). It's safe to say that if you don't want to wait, you should come here around 5-530pm - which is well before the dinner traffic starts. If you come during prime dinner time, you may need to wait about an hour or so. I've tried most of their meats - some of my notable favorites include spicy pork, LA Kalbi, bulgogi, beef tongue, and brisket. For those of you who don't do Korean bbq often, you should always start with the brisket (cha-dul) before any cut of meats - it helps to prime and coat the bbq grill for your next cuts of meats. For those of you who like wrapping your meats, they got plenty of "ssam" for you (my favorite wrap being the rice paper wrap). Of the appetizers, I love their kimchi pancake, corn cheese, steamed egg, and soft tofu soup - all very flavorful and hit the spot when you're craving some Korean comfort food. Gogi Time doesn't have many banchan selection as compared to Jong Ga House...but it makes it up in its service and wide selection of appetizers and meats. Plus, for me, I'd rather fill up on bbq meat than side dishes. Gogi Time is located in downtown Oakland and has a small parking lot shared with other businesses - which means that parking can be tough especially during prime eating hours. You may need to park on the street, which is mostly metered. So if you come before 6pm (when street parking is free), you may need to feed the meter a few quarters. My son and I have been here several times and also with family and friends. Everyone has enjoyed Gogi Time. You walk in and it's always so lively with just about every table taken with people laughing, talking and enjoying their food. It smells so delicious with all the food cooking. The tables have built in grills and they give you shears and a couple tongs for cooking on the grill. Banchan (small side dishes) is brought over with your plates, dip dishes and utensils. There is a menu with the all-you-can-eat dishes, meats, veggies, etc. They also have desserts and drinks, which are not all you can eat or drink. The service has been great! I believe the price is $27 for midweek dinner. There are a good selection of meats and lots of ban chan to go along with it and other dipping sauces and wraps etc that you can order. They were really attentive on taking more orders and changing the grills etc. This was probably the most attentive servers that I've ever had at any KBBQ restaurant. You cook your own food here, ventilation is pretty good, but you will probably smell like meat afterwards regardless. There are lots of tasty appetizers you can order, including but not limited to the kimchi pancake. See the menu for all of their other offerings like tofu stew, cheese corn, gyoza etc. Seafood is included such as shrimp, squid, mussels, etc. (again, see the menu) On top of all that, you get a small shot of yogurt drink at the end to help with digestion. All in all a pretty legit place in the bay area (especially in the eastbay) to go get KBBQ. There is a parking lot for parking and we found a spot. Our grill was changed several times during the course of our meal. Towards the end of our meal, dishes came out slower maybe because it was getting much busier. All the meats seemed very fresh. The first time I ate here was when they were doing outside dining only. We did the blind tiger alla carte menu which was pretty good! I've come back a few times to the Korean bbq and was not disappointed!!! Service is good and the servers are hella nice. I do recommend making a reservation because it's always busy. The all you can eat is $35 and super tasty! There are so many items to choose from. Some of my favorite meats to get are the bulgogi, spicy and bbq chicken, pork belly, brisket, and the shrimp!! THEY HAVE SOLO AYCE. If you are a traveler in need of KBBQ, this is the place. I had the bulgogi, galbi, brisket, squid, corn cheese, soondubu, japchae, banchan (I was hungry) and all were satisfying, while the meats were really good. Kimchi was a little too tart (seemed over-ripened, not sure it's made on site) but totally decent, japchae and soondubu likewise weren't as good as a normal korean restaurant but great as accoutrements. Service was fine and I liked how they asked if I wanted 1 or 2 galbi pieces. Brisket was lean, bulgogi and galbi marinades were spot-on. Legit meats, legit smokey and dim interior, and now I have to return home out of state where none such experiences exist for a solo diner. read more

I know the kbbq market is quite saturated around the bay. I'll admit, I haven't been to Gogi Time in years because there's so many kbbq restaurants in Oakland itself. But a evening last week, my coworkers and I were craving some kbbq after our shift at an establishment nearby. We got to the restaurant at around 9:30pm but forgot to check what time the restaurant closed. We walked in and they still sat us and served us even though their kitchen closes at 9:45pm! They could've easily said they couldn't take us in but not only did they served us, they allowed us to order our items, told us we didn't have to rush our meal, and whatever we don't finish we can take home with us. The staff was so friendly and attentive. Checked on us and made sure we were doing okay and reminded us that we did not have to rush our meal just because they are closed. Price point is a little higher than other kbbq restaurants but food was decent and customer service was spectacular! read more

I love the selection of meats they have here. The porky belly is my favorite which was so yummy! Service was pretty good when I was there. I would pick this spot over many other Kbbq places. read more
