First time dining here and the food was great. We actually come to Tropicana often and walk past saying to ourselves that we should go one time and tonight was the night. Reservations made early are key to dining here. The staff were very courteous and attentive. The warm hand towels which smelled of jasmine were a very nice touch. This review is purely for the food. The server we had was new. We sat before most people around us, but they ate and left before we got our food. But when we did get the food, it was not great at all. Especially for the price! I expected a delicious taste journey, but the journey ended at the first bite. Im not a cook, but I eat a ton of Asian food, and this was an extreme let down. If you want really great Chinese food, you can find another place in my reviews that is 3 blocks away and will take you on an amazing taste expedition. Wonderful meal, terrific food and service. We started with a fried rice appetizer and tried some soup. The waiter was very cordial and patient with us, graciously overlooking our screaming friend, Joe, who was doing the Eagles chant at the dinner table. After I explained we were from South Philly,and watching the NFL game he jumped right in and knew different parts of the city and quite a bit about football which was entertaining. For the main course we had General Tso's Chicken which included broccoli. The dipping wonton noodles snack for the table was also awesome because it came with a spicy hot mustard that we all had fun dipping them into. I got the general tso chicken-while it was good it was not spicy and I was hoping for a spicy dish so I was a little bummed about that, it came with broccoli and a side of rice-good portions, I don't eat broccoli so I can't comment on that. My sis hit a sweet jackpot on Tropicana's online gaming site and much like dice on a craps table, her winning streak kept rolling. I was her plus one for a complimentary winners weekend that included a special dinner at the mysterious Golden Dynasty, open only 3 nights a week. We were given a three course three choice menu that included soup, dinner and dessert. As if that wasn't enough our gracious hosts Luisa and T ordered app samplers. The samplers included short ribs, dumplings, lobster rolls, and beef sate. The tender juicy beef sate was the stand out. I choose the seafood soup but had serious soup envy when those near me received wonton soup. The wonton soup was shock full of colorful snow peas, carrot, mushroom and and bamboo shoots. My entree comprised of a combo of fried lobster scallops shrimp and steak with mixed Asian veggies in a brown sauce. The portion size was huge, meats tender and veggies crunchy. Several other members of our party went with variations of the lobster. The downside was that shelling the 6-8 lobsters ordered took considerable time; however, I have to commend Jason and the ladies for their precision. Platters of fried rice and shrimp Lo mein were barely touched but I sampled and approved though my pants were starting to object. We were all stuffed and ready to forgo dessert but Jason was having none of that! He brought out a tray of round individual cheesecakes with mango sauce garnished with white chocolate Tropicana logos. The dessert was sweet, refreshing and savory and somehow we all found the room. I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese food but Golden Dynasty will forever rank up there as one of my best experiences! read more

Before my wife ordered, the hostess informed her that 18% gratuity would be charged to any to-go order since it was a "Tropicana policy"! Naturally, we simply walked away in shock. They said, no, that is our "tower"; a very small tower. I ordered a Cantonese seafood soup with shrimp, crab, scallops and fish. I received a tasteless cup of broth with a bunch of tofu cubes and small chunks of whitefish;the worst excuse for a seafood soup that I have ever eaten. Where do I begin: Service: Slow from the time we arrived to the time we left. There was no hostess there for at least the first 10 minutes. We just waited. Our server was also extremely slow and just bad. Food: Not good at all. I was the only one at the table that finished mine and it was because I was really hungry. It wasn't hot, it was warm. Gross. Finally, our bill came to $240. Both couples paid and instructed the server to split it in half which would be $120 and $120. Of course that was too easy, right? Our friends had a receipt for $120 but our receipt was for the full $240. It took 20 minutes for them to fix and it was so dramatic. For some reason they went back and adjusted our friends' receipt and told them that the card was on hold so he had to pay with cash. The mistake wasn't even on their bill so why do that. Just ate there last night and had the tasting menu, $35 for 3 courses. First course coconut shrimp arrives without the ginger mango sauce. Ok fine stuff happens. Mongolian beef was a little light on the beef. Coconut rice pudding was tasteless and disgusting. I also ordered a pina colada. That was excellent as was the fortune cookie and coconut cookie. I would not have bothered with wasting my time with a review but for the fact that the waiter insisted that the charge couldn't be made to the room. Who doesn't like a restaurant that's just barely far enough from the casino so you don't have to smell the smoke? My girlfriend and I went in here and ordered our standard Chinese fair. She had shrimp lo mein, I had General Tzo's chicken and then we split a fried wok special (which really wasn't). The chicken and shrimp dishes were on par with any Chinese place I would eat at in New York city. The best part of the meal was the noodles they brought out to nosh on. They were greasy which is the way they are supposed to be. And the hot towels before and after the meal were nice. I'm seeing all these negative reviews and I don't think any of them hold any merit. I've eaten here quite a few times and each time was not disappointed. My party and I ordered the dumplings, beef satay, honey walnut shrimp, spareribs, and lobster pineapple fried rice. Each item was phenomenal. Especially the dumplings, the dumplings were one of the best dumplings I've ever had and I'm huge on dumplings. I always get them when I go to a restaurant that has them and these were very impressive. Just enough crisp, hot, and the filling was delicious. The beef satay is so yummy. It's very tasty and the meat is very tender. We had to get a second order! The spareribs were just as tasty, a hint of sweet just like the beef satay. The meat is in no way tough. The honey walnut shrimp may be my second most favorite right behind the dumplings. It's very tasty and very crispy which is exactly how honey walnut shrimp should be. It shouldn't be soggy and these were anything but soggy. The lobster fried rice is great. They were not skimpy on the lobster! It was very tasty. The manager/hostess was such a nice lady. She had so much energy and was very accommodating. She came to check on us throughout our dinner to make sure everything was great and started up some great conversations with us. If I could give a .5 star, I totally would. First, the host was rude. He sat us begrudgingly even though the only words out of our mouth was "table for 4?" Second, the food was not especially great for the price we had to pay. (Our entire bill was about 75$ for three dishes which we split family style) They seemed reluctant to bring us chopsticks at request or refill our waters. Finally, this was my biggest peeve with this restaurant. We had to literally chase down a waiter to pay for the check. Then when someone finally came with the check they brought us a check to bill it to the room (we had already told them we were not staying at the hotel) so when we gave them a credit card and told them we weren't guests the waitress kept insisting that I sign the bill before she ran the card. I kept refusing because I like to know how much I'm signing for. Her excuse "I just don't want to have to run back and forth a lot." The cash register was about 3 feet away from our table. It took her about 10-15 minutes to come back with my card, so what she was doing with it is beyond me, but I'm watching the statements like a hawk. I honesty loath writing a bad review BUT...I can't imagine giving them more than1 star . I assure you that one of the stars is simply for a decent martini and service. After that the experience plummeted directly downhill . The most expensive fare on the menu was without doubt the worse. Their version of Lobster ,shrimp and scallops was so over cooked I thought I was gnawing on plastic imitation display food. The vegetables were boring and just the opposite of the shrimp Undercooked. My wife felt safe ordering the Wagu Beef. All things considered it should have been the best cut of beef . After all we are in an Asian restaurant ordering a famous Asian marbleized steak, what could go wrong? Don't think she could have been more incorrect, the steak was fatty , veiny ,not marbleized at all. It was presented as little slices of off tasting greasy beef. My wife would attest this was nothing more than a poor cut of meat being passed off as something it wasn't close to. Each was harder and more poorly prepared than the bite before. I didn't wish to take the picture of her completed meal as it was nothing more than a plate of masticated meat .Please take my advice and walk in opposite direction. PF Chang is 200 feet away just give them a chance , at this point anything would have been better. And to be honest , in comparison a Burger King flame broiled Whopper would have been a better choice. Never again. read more
