I've pasted by this place so many times but never noticed it. Thank goodness for Yelp. Its in the same shopping center as Share Tea which meant that parking during lunch was hard to find and I ended up parking on the street. Went for lunch on a Thursday and it was pretty much 80% full from 1230 - 130 and started tapering off from there. For $19 including tax for 2 big bowls of beef noodle soup, I'm a fan. Its not just the cost that makes this place good but I really did enjoy the soup. The noodles were cooked nicely and had good bite to it. The bowl comes with one of the largest portions of beef and tendon that I've seen from the various places I've been to. I asked for a extra dish of pickled veggies and was surprised at how much they gave. It was also served hot which was unusual. Had shrimp fried rice here. It was very bland with very little seasoning, and tasted like white rice with shrimp thrown in. For 10 buck it was definitely not worth the price. Golden Leaf is my mom and my go to spot. When we don't know what to eat, we always go to Golden Leaf. Their beef noodle soup is delicious although on the salty side. The duck rice is nicely made. The meat is moist and flavorful unlike other restaurants. During dinner time they serve vermicelli that taste just like the street vendors in Taiwan. The restaurant is usually packed, but the turn over rate is high. Normally wait is no longer than 20 mins. There is a small parking lot right outside the restaurant. I love this place! A combo of delicious food, decent prices, and reasonable portions makes this place a potential weekly eat. So far I've tried the intestine vermicelli (served at dinner only - oysters optional), pickled cucumber, taiwanese sausage, beef noodle soup, and pork belly rice bowl...let's just say it's allllllll yummy. Right amount of flavor, salt, sweet, sour, and tenderness in every bite. Passed by this place couple times after passing by Golden Deli and my Taiwanese root told me to try this place out. We came on Sunday lunch time, the restaurant itself was pretty small so it got packed easily. We ordered stinky tofu, beef noodle soup, braised pork belly plate and oyster pancake. Beef noodle soup was descent. They gave great amount of beef and beef tendon. Every meat pieces were cooked to the perfection-tender and flavorful. Noodle got great texture but soup was okay. I wish there are more picked veggies inside the soup to make it more flavorful. My BF got braised pork belly rice. Pork belly was also cooked to super tender however I do wish they cooked longer so we could have that melt in the mouth effect, it did not happen here. Again they did give great chunk of pork belly which I really appreciate. The juice they marinade pork belly goes super well with the rice, it made us want to have more and more rice. There were also some side veggies in the plate and my BF killed it so must be good. Stinky tofu was not that stinky but delicious. I love to dip some vinegar sauce on the bottom of plate with stinky tofu then pair some pickled cabbage and make it as one bite. Still I wish the stinky tofu was more stinky so I could see my BF suffer eating them lol. I am not a big fan of oyster pancake but I gotta say they did give big oysters for this dish and my BF enjoyed it. Super cheap and super tasty. Everybody's favorite combo :) I really love their stinky tofu here. I honestly believe I'll never find that true putrid stink that only Taiwan seems to offer but that's ok, this place does a great job bringing the stink. More so than most places. They also serve the largest plate of it for the best price that I've ever had in San Gabriel. It's a great value and great stink. The oyster pancake was quite delicious as well. Overall, the food was good. I had the fried pork with tofu and vegetables. The pork was cooked well, but in my opinion, lacked flavor. My daughter had the popcorn chicken, which was probably my favorite of all the dishes I tasted. Nothing really special about it though, as I can get this dish anywhere and see no need to drive to Golden Leaf just to try this dish. Both my wife and son had the beef; one was braised and the other in a noodle soup. Both were very good with lots of flavor in the beef. All in all, I'd say, if you're in the area, stop on, but not good enough to make a special trip for a meal. read more

STORY TIME: I wanted pizza. Three times a year or so, I just really want pizza. This was one of those times. I was with my boyfriend and his dad in LA and we were deciding where to eat (ahem, pizza, but I won't be pushy around the dad). Dad is from Taiwan and knows all about where the good food is, so he gave us a good option of this place BECAUSE HE WANTED TO PLAY A TRICK ON ME and give me stinky tofu. He was laughing so much when he asked if I want to eat it. Pizza will have to wait. I will try anything, plus it was the funniest thing to see how excited he was, so off we go to here, the stinky tofu place. Let me tell you, I've had stinky tofu before and it is terrible. I cannot handle it. I understand a lot of people love it, so maybe someday I will come around. Who knows. When we walked in, it smelled like a mix of some super delicious smelling food plus that stinky tofu which was on most of the tables. I was the token white person, which I didn't notice until boyfriend pointed out. I think that's a good sign though? ANYWAY, we ordered the stinky tofu, chow mien, beef noodle soup, and they also brought out pork with rice and broccoli that they seemed to give to everyone? It was super good. Recommend. Food: The food is so good. The chow mien was soupier than I am used to but it was so delicious and I ate a ton of it. The beef noodle soup was the best I have had yet, with a nice rich and flavorful broth with a good amount of ginger that made it so freaking good. They had a nice amount of beef and tendon in there, too, which I loved. The pork cut was also SUPER good! We ate a ton. You know what, I as taught how to eat the crispy stinky tofu (crack it open, put in chili sauce and cabbage, eat). I was told it's like fish sauce (which i love), smells like feet, tastes so good. YOU KNOW WHAT THOUGH, it tastes terrible. I can't do it, I will try again in 25 years when I am 50. Boyfriend and dad loved it, though, so I think it's just a Natalie thing. I liked that this place doesn't offer a wide selection of dishes. You get the basic minced pork over rice, beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken etc. everything we ordered was very authentic. My husband and I are both from Taiwan so we were excited to see another Taiwanese restaurant in our neighborhood, and I have to say this place is LEGIT. The stinky tofu is so stinky, and if you eat stinky tofu then you'll know that's a good thing :) I tried the oyster pancake here and quite enjoyed it. The sauce isn't exactly like the authentic kind from Taiwan but I actually didn't mind it. I liked that it didn't have too much corn starch and had a good amount of oysters in it. The pork chop rice, which is kind of like the measuring stick for Taiwanese restaurants, is the kind that I personally preferred. It doesn't have much batter on the outside so if you are the kind that like your pork chop covered in batter then you'd probably prefer old country cafe's pork chop rice instead. The popcorn chicken was great too. Good large pieces of juicy chicken. The only thing we noted was a little off was the fact that there was no basil?? Don't judge me but my idea of Taiwanese food (used to be) hopping over to Uncle Yu's Indian for everything fried and funky. This spot tops it by far and I give it a solid 4.5 stars. I'm not much of a fan of stinky tofu, but according to my guests they enjoyed it here, with nice texture and it comes with some pickled veg to stuff inside. My favorite dish was the braised pork, which was cooked perfectly and came with bamboo shoots and an egg/tomato paste of some sort. Three large pieces of pork and the plate cost, what, $7.50 total? Wow. Love the SGV. Second favorite had to be the oyster omelet, where they are very generous with oysters. Third, was the boat noodle which tasted like a less tame version of Thai boat noodle. But with plenty of tendon and nice firmness to the noodles. So many yummy dishes here and I will be coming back, as should you. read more

This is one of my favorite Taiwanese spots in the 626! Prices are reasonable and the service is great. The inside of the restaurant is a bit small so if you come during busy hours there might be a little wait. The oyster vermicelli soup was the perfect consistency but lacked a little flavor. I had to add a bit of chili oil to give it a little kick. I also tried the oyster pancake and that was absolutely delicious. It reminded me of the ones I would get on the streets of Taiwan. They didn't skimp on the oysters and it tasted pretty fresh. The pancake was covered in thick, sweet, and tangy sauce. And the texture of the pancake wasn't too slimy and wet. I could probably eat like 2-3 of these in one sitting. This is a great place if you want to try some authentic tasting Taiwanese food. read more

I was craving Taiwanese comfort food and took a friend here. We got their vermicelli noodles, fried intestine, and beef noodle soup. I liked that their fried intestine came with some pickled cabbage and it was pretty good too. Price was definitely a little higher than what I'm used to paying for Taiwanese food but it tasted just like what I remembered eating in Taiwan. Definitely not the best but extremely nostalgic and comforting. This review is purely for service. I DID NOT EAT HERE! My friend and I ditched the long lines at the Dumpling & Beer Festival down the street to find a quicker way of getting food. This was NOT the place. A small Mom&Pop Restaurant so not to many tables and very short staffed...so short, it was ONE GUY manning the front. While we waited and waited, my friend pointed how ineffective he was at his job - clearing tables, bringing out food and drinks, taking orders...the list goes on. We waited for at least 20 minutes and there were two open tables, but he never called us. Eventually we left. Next time I come here, I will peek in the window to see if he's working. If so, I'm walking...The food and reviews of this place looks good and so I do want to try it...And they have STINKY TOFU I want to try! read more

Braised pork belly is delicious! Great flavor and gigantic pieces. My family was also a fan of the stinky tofu and the beef noodle. I ordered the pork chop rice which wasn't good. The pork chop lacked flavor. Also, apparently the side dishes change so it's a gamble what you get. I got eggplant which I am not a fan of. There's typically a wait during peak times. This is a Mom and Pops Taiwanese restaurant... just by that I feel like I HAVE to support them! My mom took me here when I was home because she LOVES Taiwanese food. It's in a small plaza and they don't have a ton of seating, but the owners and workers are super warm people. We had the beef noodle soup (not super spicy yet very flavorful - reminded me of beef noodle soup from Sin Ba La, but not as salty). Stinky tofu (Smelly and delicious! I really like the picked cabbage that comes with it since it's super Taiwanese! This dish made me miss Taiwan). We also ordered a dish of vegetables (very normal plate of veggies - fresh but not anything crazy). I also had some black tea (made me think of the black tea in Taiwan - a little on the sweet side). The prices are reasonable, the portions are good, and the people are just the sweetest! Definitely come try this Taiwanese place! read more
