I've been coming here for years when I go into town and I love it! This time we sat in the bar area and the waitress was great. She came quick and was very attentive. Good was good as always. Group of 4 seniors had tickets to Astor Street Opry house right next door for a wet and dark Saturday night and thought it would be convenient to dine close by. We did not yelp it because what could go wrong with a classic Chinese Restaurant location that had been there forever, right? The atmosphere was Cantonese with the red paper lanterns and typical Asian decor. We saw a daily specials board and thought great prices and good selection of foods! Service was friendly and attentive as we were seated immediately at a clean table. Water and tea were right behind. We all ordered the same item off the specials board which included either egg flower or hot and sour soup. My hot and sour soup was mostly hot vinegar with chunks of bean curd. Not really very tasty but I emptied the small bowl. Our platters came soon after and all looked exactly the same, huge portions of deep-fried blobs. The blobs of undercooked tempura dough were 4 times the size of the shrimp, chicken and pork they contained. The large eggroll contained a humongous amount of old cooking oil saturated cabbage. The fried rice had a few pieces of pork in it however, all food lacked much flavor except very doughy! We all made a dent in our platters but left a lot of inedible food to be taken away while declining take out cartons for the balance. Young children were heard screaming and crying in the kitchen area that also served as a catch all for a pile of plastic garbage bags and boxes. The tea and fortune cookies were tasty though, but, never again will I dine without yelping first! read more

Ignore all the bad reviews, this place is great. Service was excellent, the people were super friendly and ready to help you. As for the food, it was just as good. Rice was perfectly cooked and the chicken was great too. My family had egg flower soup and they loved it. I loved the environment around us, it was red walls and booths with quiet music playing. Generous portions, nothing exotic or too spicy, just solid Chinese American food. I got a dinner special. Fried rice was ok. BBQ pork was not red but tasted good. Absolutely the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I ate there on August 19, 2023. I ordered the Mu Shu Chicken and when it arrived, I was excited as there was a ton of food. I'm a big eater, so I thought I would walk away full. However, when I started to assemble the wraps, I realized that the dish was 95% cabbage and had almost no meat. The pancakes had a weird texture and were cold and thin. The dish tasted pretty much like boiled cabbage wrapped in a napkin. Nobody else at my table liked their food, either. In searching for a good Chinese restaurant in Astoria, I found none. You would think that with the number of Chinese who live there and the town's rich history of Chinese heritage (like my family - first came to Astoria in 1902), you would be able to find some decent Chinese food. My son and I were evacuated from Clackamas count due to fires. We really needed a good meal and to relax. We received both in a small bar at Golden Luck Restaurant. The main restaurant sitting wasn't opened but that didn't stop the chef from making food to go and offering sitting in the bar area. Our meal began with incredible homemade Egg flower soup! Best I have ever had. Next we had the special; a large plate of fried rice, bbq pork, deep fried shrimp and sweet and sour pork. My favorite was the bbq pork. We also enjoyed the homemade pot stickers. Michele, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She made me a delicious raspberry lemon martini. All in all we left the bar full and happy ready to get a much needed rest. We will definitely be back and highly recommend, if you want a authentic Chinese meal, visit Golden Luck. read more

I had lunch at this place 2 days ago. It was ok, nothing special at all. Typical Chinese food taste aimed at pleasing us Americans. I ordered an appetizer of crab puffs and they were decent. My main course was a combo with pork chow mein which was good, bbq pork was just ok, spring roll was good, and their fried shrimp was ok at best. They didn't honor the prices they have online, if you're not gonna honor them, than shut down the site or change your pricing online....it's almost 2022, no excuse for being lazy! The worst Chinese food I have ever had. Mongolian beef: overcooked vegetables that tasted like dishwater, mixed with soggy meat. Sweet and sour soup: so gross. It was just brown cold water with vinegar. Sweet and sour chicken: bread with jam on it. Celery chicken: where is the chicken? Egg roll: round thick cold bread with cabbage. This is the basic American style Chinese food restaurant we've all grown to know and appreciate. The food is fresh, hot and right on parr with the norm. The service is also very normal in a Chinese restaurant, basic as in their culture. The family owners work and run the entire business and are great quality people which is reflected in the meal. It is good food but a basic environment. Enjoy it for the good it has to offer. IMO it is one of only 2 good Chinese restaurants in the county. The other is Golden Star. read more

I ordered the sliced flank steak dinner special, and it came out it was chunks of white meat. I tasted it, and it was either chicken or pork. I told the brand new bartender I got the wrong dinner, and she took it back. The owner sent her back with it and said flank steak turns white when they deep fry it? Two stars for being open late since most restaurants in the area close at 9p and we arrived in town after then. We were the only customers in the restaurant other than another couple who walked in towards the end of our meal. My suggestion is to order your dish with the sauce on the side or without sauce at all (which I know kind of defeats the purpose of Chinese food). Their sweet and sour sauce is like a bright neon red orange. It tasted weird. My almond chicken was served with a gravy (I've never been served a brown gravy at a Chinese restaurant before). I would've rather had it without. Waiter wasn't exactly friendly, but I didn't really expect outstanding customer service based on his reaction when we interrupted his vacuuming to ask to be seated. Awesome lunch specials!!! Quite a few to choose from. 2 Items with soup for under 5 bucks!! Large portions, fresh, and hot. Attentive, fast, and pleasant service is the standard here. You can't really go wrong. We dine here quite often and have never had a complaint at all. As a rule in Astoria, most all of the Chinese places are about the same as far as quality, pricing, portions, etc. It is the typical Americanized-Chinese fare with very subtle flavour differences between the main players in the restaurant scene. read more

Took my Chinese wife here, and afterwards, she slapped me. Edible, but very salty. Meat and rice fairly dry. Hot pot was admittedly not made in the pot (kinda the slow cooking purpose), but pan fried and dropped in. Sizzling beef was more vegetables than beef. Slow service, even though the place was fairly empty for Sunday lunch. Flies flying around, without concern from the staff. May be your best bet for Chinese food in Astoria, but we won't be returning (don't want to get slapped again). :-o read more

Read the reviews and thought I had a winner on my hands. Sadly my "luck" ran out on me. While the food was not horrible I've definitely had better. I know we all have different tastes so I do recommend that you give it a try, it just didn't do it for me. The service was fantastic, seated immediately, quick drinks brought our way and from the time we ordered to the time food began to hit our table it felt as if a only a nanosecond had passed. I ordered the special, it came with a BBQ pork which was dry and not very barbequey, pork fried rice that tasted overcooked bland and had me searching for pork like a needle in a hay stack, sesame seed chicken that was deep fried and lacking flavor, all topped off with a Mongolian beef entree which was the saving grace of my dinner. Although it was different from any other Mongolian beef I'd ever had (lack of a sauce) the flavors from the beef and the accompanying veggies were delightful. While I can't remember what my husband ordered I do know that he was just as disappointed as I. We may or may not try this place again, but if we do we are going to order something else to try. read more

My family and I are on a 1,500 mile road trip from California and we were looking for a small town feeling for a place to grab some food and a beer. We went on a Monday morning so the parking lot was empty and we parked in the back of the lot to avoid blocking any other cars. They made no attempt to contact me to move it or show any displeasure with my parking but in stead parked behind my RV blocking me in. They said nothing in the restaurant and mocked me when I tried to leave, telling me I'd have to wait 45 minutes. This is a small town establishment, not a big city restaurant that has to deal with parking problems. The lot was empty and they gave me crap and wouldn't even let me leave to make more space for their empty bar. I would never recommend coming here. The owners were Asian immigrants who seem to either hate white people or just hate outsiders. Either way, this is the first review I've ever written and I signed up with yelp just to write this because I've never been so disrespected by an establishment before. read more

We were in Astoria to tour the Columbia River Maritime Museum, and stopped at this friendly place for dinner. There were four of us, and we all chose different dishes. Everyone was very happy with our selections. The food was hot and delicious, cooked to order, and the service was very friendly. In fact, we liked it so much that we drove 15 miles, from across the river in Washington, to go back again! Had the shrimp chow fun when I was there for lunch...Not too impressed! It wasn't greasy and there was plenty of ginger...What killed me was the stained booth????? WTF!?! A quiet place to go for some delicious Chinese food. I have the combination plate with chicken subgum chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, fried shrimp, and pork fried rice with egg flower soup.
