Went here at Balboa a few weeks ago. I got the chicken vermicelli and the green thai tea. Everything was delicious, although sadly sweetness couldn't be adjusted. But the vermicelli had lots of veggies, juicy chicken, crunchy nuts, and it was overall wonderful! The staff was also super kind and confirmed the food didn't have certain allergens. When you're ion Balboa Island, you don't automatically think Vietnamese or Asian Food. It's usually frozen bananas. We were in Newport for my daughter's baptism and we just wanted really good and healthy Asian food. Golden Bunny popped up and it was a no brainer! It completely blew my mind! We got a little bit of everything and it was all top notch in service (the owner made sure we knew all the favorites) and the front staff were so sweet and gave incredible service! The matcha coffee is delicious too, my husband LOVED it and he's not a matcha guy. He def loved the coffee part but it truly was a perfect pairing with their magical touch. My mom is also hard to please when we go out to eat but she ate everything in her bowl (doesn't usually finish an entree) and commented how good the pho and bún was. That's huge, might as well be a blue ribbon or Michelin star haha. The richly simmered broth of the pho had so much depth while the contrast of the bún was refreshingly light and perfectly fresh. Loved the crispy spring rolls and spicey shrimp wontons as well. I highly recommend Golden Rabbit as your go to meal on Balboa Island, it won't disappoint! read more

Got takeout via DoorDash and everything arrived exactly how I pictured it. The spring rolls were fresh and flavorful and large (filling and yummy!). Great food!!! Awesome owners!!! What a great find on Balboa Island. We were on our usual walk and happened to pop in to the Golden Rabbit, a fantastic Asian fusion spot that recently opened. We were immediately greeted by the owner who was happy to give us recommendations and walk us through the most popular dishes. The 100 year old family recipe filet mignon pho' is a must try. We order several items and sat outside to enjoy the food and the night. We wound up having a wonderful conversation with the owners who couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. The food was delicious and fresh. The Thai chicken wings were amazing. From the app to the entrees to the drinks, the Golden Rabbit hits the mark. We will make this a staple go to spot. Stopped in after the Balboa Island crowd died down. We were surprised the restaurant was open. Lucky us it was the first day. We sat outside at a small table and ordered 5 dishes to share. Plus a Thai green tea special drink of the day. That drink rocked ! Great news the food is really good. Will go back often. The chicken wings, dumplings in a spicy sauce, the fried egg rolls and the cold shrimp spring rolls were yummy. The mini ban mi sandwich is a good concept but a miss .. it has a luscious pate spread but needs a couple of fresh elements to make it lift off. A julienne slice of cucumber, an orange radish and some cilantro would make this 3 piece sharing dish a home run . Owner chef was super friendly and helpful. Islanders are going to support him. I was given a few samples and even had a conversation about their recommendations. It's a nice clean, little spot and omg I am not exaggerating when I say "the make you feel like family" super friendly. Came by today in the mid-afternoon and there was no line. The food looked delicious but I ended up just getting the sea salt coffee. It was the perfect pick me up for the hot afternoon. It was delicious, creamy, and very caffeinated. I let my cousin try my drink, who then immediately bought her own. There's a small seating area inside and outside. Stopped by here after taking the ferry and was surprised to see an asian fusion place! We got the vietnamese sea salt coffee and brown sugar boba milk and both were amazing. This is by far the best restaurant on the island! The food is incredible, and while it's mostly a grab-and-go spot, they have outdoor tables and chairs if you want to hang out. You order up front, and Casey or one of the other super sweet staff will bring your food out to you. They don't serve alcohol right now, but they've got boba and other fun drinks to try. We had a great lunch today at Golden Rabbit on Balboa Island. They just opened so their menu is limited for the time being but what we had was all delicious! My husband ordered the pork bahn mi sandwiches and I had the vermicelli with shrimp instead of beef. The shrimp were tender and tasty and there were a lot of them. The noodles, veggies and sauce all tasted great as well. We also enjoyed our Thai tea and milk tea.The bobas were cooked perfectly, not mushy or too chewy and they were sweetened just right. I was out in LA for some client meetings and made a pit stop to the Golden Rabbit after a stroll and watching sunset at Balboa Island. This place has excellent, fresh, flavorful Asian dishes. It was a little chilly in November in the evening on the island, so I ordered their Chicken Pho special bowl and it hit the spot. So yummy, warm and comforting on a cool evening. I also had the Thai chicken wings, it was nice and crispy and very flavorful. I had the boba tea, which was solid and also had their Vietnamese ice coffee. Let me tell you that their Vietnamese ice coffee is legit! The best ice coffee in CA, it was so rich and the flavor was strong and intense, just the way I like my Vietnamese coffee. Overall, the lady boss - Mysa was very nice, the place was super clean and the food and drink were outstanding! Must try again next time I'm on the island. read more
