This place is our second favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. I'd say it's best for large groups. Pros: good food and the service isn't bad. You can't really go wrong with Chinese food. The service isn't all that bad. Obviously, English isn't their first language but they get the job done. Cons: In MOST Chinese restaurants, they serve the rice/fried rice last and I hate it when they do that! We specifically asked to get our rice first, and guess what? We got it last...realllllyyyy?? Overall, I'll come back here, but if they don't learn to listen to customers then I can easily take my parents' money elsewhere. read more

I'd heard good things about the dim sum here from the fam, something that rarely happens. WIth that in mind, I figured it'd be worth trying the dinner here and the food was quite good in general. Items ranging from a curry seafood claypot to sweet & sour pork to sauteed garlic pea sprouts were all tasty and surprisingly light compared to the vast majority of Canto restaurants drenched in grease and starch-based sauces. Even better, the prices are just as pleasantly surprising - very reasonable for the portion and quality. To go along with the food, the ambiance inside is exceptional for a Chinese spot - fairly upscale and spacious. Plus, the servers here are actually friendly...seriously, one shock after another. Came to get dim sum at 1pm, and got the food quickly! Service: As soon as we sat down, a server used her mouthpiece to signal the dim sum servers to get to our table. So awesome! Tea and ice water were immediately provided, unlike other places I've been to that literally make you ask for beverages. Food: Tad pricey, but the food quality makes it worth it. Came here for the first time today. Waited about 20 mins for a table of 3 at around 1 pm. My parents love it here because of their recent lunch special: $41.88 for lobster noodles, your choice of fresh veggies cooked in broth, and 5 dim sum dishes (1 being a large kitchen cooked item like roast duck). All dishes were very delicious. I really liked their dim sum dish 鮮竹卷 (fresh bamboo roll). It's a variety of veggies wrapped inside tofu skin and this one had ground pork too. Service today was slow likely because of the holiday. And usually the staff gives you a dim sum menu to check off which items you want, but today we just ordered straight from dim sum the carts. I will be coming back again for the lunch special! There's another similar lunch special with steamed fish or clams instead of lobster noodles as well. read more

Everything was great! We were seated immediately upon arrival, which was great because we were starving. The food came out quick and everything was very authentic. The service was very personal, and attentive. We had the lobster and fruit that was nothing I've had before. The green beans were crispy and flavorful. I've been here multiple times for dim sum and dinner service. Yes, during weekend dim sum service there is a wait but the food makes up for it. I love their sticky rice lotus leaf and the siu mai. I came here on a weekend for dinner. I think service here is better than most Chinese places. It's definitely a nicer place. We ordered a couple of dishes, pea sprouts with garlic, fu-king fried rice, peking spareribs, and a beef dish. I enjoyed all the dishes I ordered. I also was amazed that they refilled my water. Parking is in the parking lot, and sometimes, there's definitely lots of cars. I do plan on coming back but the Chinese food is a little bit more pricey, but decent! read more

You get what you pay for at Golden Sand Harbor. For this area, consistently good dim sum is pretty hard to come by, but you can definitely find it here. It's busy as crap during the lunch hour(s), especially on weekends, but it's worth the wait. If you can, go during a weekday. Let's be clear: ordering dim sum off a menu is a thousand times better than having cart service. Service is quick here during the week, even at peak hours, so you can get exactly what you want when you want it. The dim sum menu has a pretty good range of dishes, and isn't limited to your typical steam tray variety. One dish that stands out to me (and you can order it during evenings too) is the salted egg pumpkin - I haven't had it better anywhere else in this part of the Bay. Generally their fried items are on point, so you know you can rely on them being fresh, tasty, and gut busting. The only issue I've had is that their bbq pork is on the sweeter side, so if that's not how you like it, feel free to stay away. I've had dinner several times here too, and again, you get what you pay for. This ain't a bargain bin Chinese restaurant, but then again, if you only expect Chinese food to be a bargain, you've got some serious Orientalist issues you need to look at. P.S. We came here on a Sunday and we had a table waiting for us. The food comes out hot and is very delicious! The food was very good compared to many other dim sum places. Very authentic. The service was fast. When we needed an extra chair or place setting them came and gave us what we asked for. The customer service was very good! I would come back here again! The best dish I had was the don tot or egg custard! It was hot and very creamy! These are the best I've ever had! I also love that they will cut the items for you if you need cutting. My son enjoyed the bao! I am very impressed. Sometimes the wait is long and we saw people standing waiting for tables. The food continuously comes out and they restock the carts frequently. Today's lunch was a special banquet style, we had soft shelled turtle soup, also braised in a delicious sauce, tons of vegetables with garlic, squab crispy fried, chicken, fish steamed to perfection, and that was the body only, the fish head was fried and then placed in a clay pot simmered to absolute deliciousness, shrimp as the size of your palm with scallions and soy sauce...... Decided to try this place out after reading reviews stating that this place had better food than Koi, but upon visiting, that was not the case. Not only was the selection choice sparse, the food was also lukewarm and did not feel as fresh, unless you just happened to get lucky (after waiting for a while) in getting a fresh batch. While this may be true at every dim sum place, the food here was not kept hot either in a steamer or a heat lamp and felt more like leftovers. Golden Sand is a good alternative if you don't want to wait in a more packed line at Koi, but in this area, there really isn't much to choose from in terms of dim sum. The service was average and I found myself having to wave down waiters to get the check, a box for to-go leftovers, and the credit card collected. My last concern is how they handle the hot sauce. The employees scoop the hot sauce out of the small containers on the tables after the lunch period into a large stainless steel bucket, to change out the containers on the tables, however, mixing all the remaining leftover hotsauce from all the tables into one bucket and redistributing them into clean glass containers at each table does not sit well with me, and may lead to all sorts of problems during that process. The better practice is to wait until the entire container on the tables are depleted, and to just swap it out completely, rather than scooping the hot sauce from one container to another all the time. read more

We had a reservation for 11 (which is definitely a good idea since it gets pretty crowded around lunch), and we were seating promptly and given a quick apology about the out-of-place curtain we were seated next to due to an event in the other half of the room. Everything okay so far, yes? yes. The dim sum carts came to our table at a pretty good rate, never swarming us, but never letting us feel ignored. The food we ordered was pretty good too. I had never tried the stuffed taro root before, and I definitely loved my first experience. 10/10 would order again. Due to some miscommunication, half of our party arrived late, and even though they were pretty busy, the staff were really chill about the whole thing. We had a chatty 9-year-old with us, and she asked endless questions to the waitress who patiently answered each of them with a really good attitude. Everything was going really well up until we tried to order doahua. We were told by several different waitresses that it was coming out, ended up waiting about forty-five minutes, and then once it came out, none of us could eat it because it had gone bad. It was such a letdown, since doahua is always my favorite thing to end a dim sum experience with. We let the restaurant staff know that it had gone sour, and she made sure to take it off our bill. It ended up working out, but I just worry that if someone else were to order it, and not know what to expect, it's possible that they would have eaten it and gotten sick. 2 stars because health comes first. :/ read more

Don't come here on a hot day unless you like eating dim sum and drinking hot tea in a sauna.. it was so hot we felt like dying....we asked them about the A/C and the waitress said what can we do? Anyways, then we asked about the AC and inquired if it's not working and she rudely said, what's broken?? You can't feel the AC?? And then she was mumbling some other stuff.... I had to wipe marks off my teacup but I eventually just ended up asking for a new one. It wasn't anything special honestly... This is one of the waste place in bay area. The customer service is very poor. They are ready to take dine-in orders even 5 minutes before they close and they don't let us to sit and eat peacefully. Like any typical Chinese restaurant, expect good food and mediocre service at best. For Tri-Valley area dim sum, it's decent. Definitely prefer it over Koi Garden, Willow Tree, or Lee Gardens. The food is tasty, but definitely leaves you thirsty afterwards from MSG. Restaurant has been nicely redecorated from the old buffet style, and there's plenty of room. It was quite busy on a Sunday but we were able to sit down within 10 minutes. For service, you definitely have to flag someone down. If you wait for someone to serve you, you'll go hungry. Some funny things that happened to show you their level of service: - Upon being seated, we were given 2 pots of tea, but no tea cups. Had to ask three separate servers for tea cups. -After about 5 minutes, server came with 4 tea cups, for the 3 of us. -Asked for 2 extra pairs of chop sticks, received 1. -Asked for a box to bring home a single egg tart, received 3 boxes, and no bag. The food here is really a hit and miss sometimes. There are times when I visited food was very well made and then there's time the food was not well made. The steam fish for instance, was really good that one time I visited the restaurant but the second time I ordered the same fish on a different day, it was really fishy and the chef or cleaner didn't clean the fish's head well and it was still bloody thus causing the fish to stink. However it's not all bad. I really like their dim sum although a little bland they give really big portions and cooked well. Their Peking duck is really well made every time I went. But then I saw the floor is so messy and sticky. Waiters/waitress are too busy and we wait for long time to finally place order for the food. This is my first impression. Foods are so so. I've been back to this place multiple times since my initial review. The most recent time, the traditional carts came back out instead of the paper order, which is what most dim sum joints are changing into. Some few notes: -They charge a $1 tea few, but I love their tea. I always get their jasmine tea and they put a lot of tea leaves for a strong flavor. -Very good ha gao and siu mai. The shrimp in the ha gao is very plump. I also recommend the black bean spare ribs. -SUPER YUMMY taro buns. They're sweet, soft, and have many textures. -I'd stay away from the xiao long bao.
