Don't bring your car here. Jerry is a sweet talker but will cheat you out of your money. He says he will honor one year warranty then cheat you by breaking something else in your car, and fixing things you didn't ask him to fix. He places cheap parts when you specifically asked him to install good quality parts. He makes you wait for weeks only to say he hasn't gotten to your car. A simple replacement of a gasket or a solenoid he makes it seem like there is a much greater problem when there is no problem. Please read all the negative reviews they are true. read more

I am so glad to have had Golden West Transmissions recommended to me by another vehicle service shop in Seal Beach. We have had our 55 T-bird for 50+ years and it was leaking so much transmission fluid on the garage floor that I took it it in for GWT just to look at it and give me an estimate. I have tried other repair shops over the past few years and always received the same response, we can tune yiour car but "... I don't think we can fix this leak." Anyhow, I had left the car with them for a couple of days before Jerry called me to discuss what his team had found out, prelininarily. I told them to "go for it!" During the repair process I was so thankful that they looked at more than just the transmission. They really did a thorough and comprehensive evaluation. I also needed some work to be done with the steering, a new thermostat installed, and have the carb rebuilt as I had also been experiencing some vapor locks, too. I picked up the car yesterday ... I couldn't be happier with their service, quality of work, and value for my dollars spent. They were TERRIFFIC! The drive home was like a dream come true, the car steered so much more easily, the new themostat kept the engine running at a much lower temp, and the carb reuild made the car run so much more smoothly. Super friendly and busy but it is the good old boys aw shucks we are so happy to have you here. They make you feel super comfortable and trusting but when I declined to have work done that they suggested and I paid for the diagnostic they refused to provide me with a summary of all work they suggested. This gave me pause. I don't feel the car was correctly diagnosed and plan to take back to the dealership. Also, the interior door handle fell off two days after I picked up car. Not sure if a mechanic put his full body weight on the car and this caused it or if it was a coincidence but when I told Gerry he seemed mildly disinterested almost like his hearing aid quit working. read more

Zero Stars Misdiagnosed a leaky transmission drain pan gasket that didn't need to be fixed. Pinched the gasket that didn't need to be installed. Charged me $278 that I shouldn't of paid. Tried to lure me back with other work that needed to be done. Just another hole in the wall dump. Typical California tech bs, I've learned now to take my vehicle to out of state if I want it done right. Disabled vet that was ripped off. These are some of the nicest mechanics you will find! Pricing isn't bad, the work is honest, and it is family owned. I was referred here by a friend who has been here in the past and I went here to oil change a Honda Odyssey for my work; the guys here were cool so I came back with the other car to replace my brakes. They take care of you here and don't rush the job putting things back together. You can safety come here knowing that your car will be fine and better than it was when you brought it in. Jerry is very accommodating and easy to talk to, he tries his best to make things a welcome experience and in my case, he made time for me to bring in my ride last minute notice! Pricing is fair, but you know you're in good hands. I don't have too many good experiences with auto shops, but I am glad I have one here at home that I can count on! I had to have a transmission rebuilt and that can be extremely stressful because of cost. In my opinion; Jerry, Miguel, and the other mechanics know their stuff. Jerry the owner/manager has got a good mix of subject matter experts, so between all of them and Jerry's knowledge of transmissions (not to mention he and his daughters' fantastic customer service) this is a very well rounded shop. I had them install a new master cylinder, brake booster, wheel cylinder, and brake shoes all the way around for my '67 El Camino. Pricing was very good so I added rear diff service, transmission pan service, and (4) shocks. He was able to get me a killer deal on some coil-over shocks, which were an upgrade from what I could get for the same price. What impressed me is the fact they found the bad sway bar links, which I didn't mention, and only charged me a minimal amount to install them. This is one of two shops in the area that I would send men and women, who don't know anything about cars. You are going to get legit pro work and a very competitive price. I came back 2 weeks later to ask him to check a hesitation issue when accelerating from a stop. He had one of techs check it out and in 10 minutes diagnosed a bad accelerator pump in the carburetor. read more

First let me say that Jerry and his staff know customer service!! From my first call to his shop, til the follow up inspection, they have been very friendly, helpful and honest! I had replaced the transmission on my 2001 Honda Passport with a used transmission last year from another shop, and it only lasted about 7 months before 1st gear was slipping. I had been driving it with a bad transmission since October 2016. Finally decided to give Golden West Transmission a visit and see what they could do for me. I met Jerry, and he explained all of my options, from going used (not recommended), parts change as needed, or complete rebuild. The price he gave me for a rebuild was fair. Not the cheapest, and not the most expensive that I had been quoted. He took the time to explain what a rebuild would entail, and how the NAPA network worked. I decided to have his shop rebuild my transmission, and he said that if I wanted, to drop by in a day or two and see the progress of the work. A few days later, I drop by, and he took the time to show me his transmission work bench and explained to me at what part of the rebuild process they were at. He also showed me my car which was on a lift, what he found, and recommended other repairs that might be needed in the near future - and how urgent or not urgent those other repairs are. Fast forward a couple weeks- I took my car back for the routine follow up inspection yesterday, and my car has been driving really well. Strong transmission thats for sure! These guys are good. My wife has a 2008 Nissan pathfinder and the transmission went out. No help from the dealer, even before 100K miles. Price from the dealer was twice what Jerry at Goldenwest Transmission quoted. Great communication, and honest. My wifes car drives better than ever. Clean work, and they even washed the car. Two weeks later I had a problem with my 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 work truck, so I took it to GW Transmission. Wasn't even transmission related by they took good care of me, and did it FAST. Small business service at its finest. I have my own small business that thrives on good service. I could see right away that Jerry has the same philosophies. Had my jeep delivered here on the advice of a friend, took a chance on a new mechanic. Not often in life does this end well. It sure did this time. Jerry and the crew at his shop were outstanding. From the first day the communication was awesome, Jerry walked me through the catastrophic state of my transmission, introduced me to the gentleman doing the work, and got her fixed in short order. Personally took me on the initial test drive, and brought me back in two weeks for another checkup to insure all was well, and signed the warranty form for me to take. I went in for an noise evaluation from the back differential my cost was 50 dollars after i refused a hundred they tried to blame the noise on the front end ball joints and tried to sell me on that repair which was not necessary they also recommended adjusting and cleaning the back brakes .....they promised they'd get back to me oh sure don't hold your breath on 4/26/2018 i called various times to have my rear brakes completely checked and to use the 50 dollars towards the work and if need be renew the brakes ...he just smiled and hid in his office stay away from this place read more

DISAPOINTMENT!!!! DISAPOINTMENT!!!! I took my explorer to jerry Who use to have a great reputation for tranny rebuilds.....USE TO! Rebuilt my explorer for about $3000. I took it back just before a annual year end like he suggested for inspection, He said i only had 6000 miles no inspection needed. Well 2 years and approximately 23,000 miles later Transmission check light comes on. Jerry drops trans pan , calls me to take a look and all I see are gear teeth and 3/4 inch shards of transmission metal in pan. I have seen transmissions with over 100,000 miles in better shape. He offered to rebuild again for about same price, I WILL NOT PAY FOR SHODY CRAFTSMANSHIP !!!!! He covered his behind with the 12,000 -1 year warranty. This shop will no longer work on any vehicle I own. read more

WARNING: GO TO GOLDENWEST TRANSMISSION IF YOU WANT JERRY (OWNER) TO RIP YOU OFF ($1000-$2500), PERFORMS UNNECESARY TRANSMISSION WORK, THEN BLAMES YOUR CAR FOR OTHER PROBLEMS WHEN THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM YOU CAME IN WITH AND DESCRIBED IN DETAIL STILL REMAIN UNFIXED (ILLOGICAL!!). See review from D.T. 's post 11/2017 and David's post 9/25/2014. Jerry has done this many times. Wished I had looked at Yelp before and everyone should before going there. Jerry Zeno (owner of Golden West Transmission) used the similar tactics on his victims: 1. "nice ole boy attitude" 2. "Show-and-tell": calling you back to show "potential damage" to mislead you to believe what he wants you to believe. This convinces you into his trap. 3. If he knows there're other issues unrelated to transmission, he will play around with your transmission, its related parts and pretends to work hard for you. It is because he'd make more money with transmission work (whether it's truly needed or not). When the main reason you came in with remained unfixed whether on purpose or from his incompetence, he pulled a fast one on you and say "I did my part and that's the other things with your car". Does this sound familiar to anyone? Be careful of "good ole boy attitude" as D.T. said (posted 11/2017) DT: don't sit on it! You need to take this guy to court to make sure he doesn't rip off another person. But first you need to contact the Bureau of Automobile Repair (BAR-a division of California Consumer Affair) to investigate. It'd hold stronger in court. I recently took this sleazebag Jerry to court. According to investigative documents and findings, the agent found several violations according to my complaints. He said this guy Jerry was so arrogant and would not admit his mistakes. Like David (post 9-25-2017) took my Toyota to a Toyota dealer before suing Jerry Zeno. They quickly found out the problem from my simple descriptions. It was completely unrelated to the transmission which was not fixed and Jerry refused to compromise of partial refund so I can have the dealer fix the real problem. What a fraud!! I will follow up with this post. You guys need to come forward and bring this guy to light. Best transmission shop in town. The AX-5 in my Jeep blew up. I removed it and called a few places. Most seemed off-put that I removed it myself. Losing money on labor no doubt. I spoke to Jerry and he seemed very genuine so I decided to give him a chance. Long story short, he fixed the trans which was grenaded, came in on Saturday to give it to me and charged me 400 bucks less than my next best quote. So, I suppose I could recommend them .
