Was really hoping to like this place. Here a couple of years ago. Food quality has deteriorated with prices going way up. Just take note that what is advertised online may not be current pricing. For example Prawns with vegetables was $18.80 (listed $14.80), Beef & gai lan $18.80 (listed $12.80), Chicken & Vegetable chow mein $16.80 (listed $12.80), & Fried scallop with egg fried rice $20.80 (listed $12.80). The food tasted off/seafood NOT fresh with very little/nonexistent scallop in the $$$ fried rice. Portions were also small. Make sure you ASK for the 10% discount for take-out. They only gave it to us when we asked for it. Napkins & utensils weren't included...again, we had to ask for it. read more

This is not a fancy restaurant. I am giving four stars because all the take out I've ordered so far is tasty! I end up ordering and eating more than I should. It's too bad they don't have a website or a way to access a more well put together menu. read more

Came here for dinner tonight on an impulse decision since it was close by. We ordered a choy dish, a tofu with chicken and seafood pot, and sweet and sour beef medallions with onions (I apologize for the rough English translations). The wait for food was unusually long for a Chinese restaurant and for these types of dishes, but the quality and quantity did not disappoint. The choy dish came out in a heaping pile and the tofu pot was about a foot in diameter and full. The beef dish came with 5 pieces and a bunch of sliced onions, about one whole onion's worth. The beef are big pieces cooked to about medium-medium rare and you don't get a knife, but they were tender enough to bite off a piece and chew. Kind of barbaric but it works. While it was a good choice *wink nudge*, it probably wouldn't be my very first choice since it didn't completely blow me away. Still a solid place though. read more

It's a pretty middle of the range dim sum restaurant, where dishes average 5-7 dollars. The highlights here were definitely the Beef Balls (very juicy and crunchy from water chestnuts), the Chive Cakes (chivey, obviously, and lots of shrimp!), and the Spring Rolls (very crispy and tons of shrimp!) and XO Turnip cakes (pinch of salt, also quite crispy). Not so good dim sum dishes though were the Pork and Shrimp dumplings (huge MSG overload), Shrimp Dumplings (no flavouring for some reason), Oyster Sauce Bean Curd Roll (for some reason, only the flavour from celery is present), and the Sticky Rice Rolls (maybe not left to absorb the flavouring from the meat or leaves as it only tasted of hot rice lol). Servers were pretty attentive though, and although the price isn't super high, the quality is just kind of okay. It was definitely a Good Choice for dimsum today. There's a buzz in town that this was the best dim sum place at the moment -- I agree. We are so fortunate to have such a decent selection of dim sum joints here in Vancouver/Richmond but for me, it's the test of the MSG Hangover which wins my vote. First of all, everyone needs to understand Dim Sum = MSG. It all comes down to how much they use. I'm glad to say that this place passes the test! I didn't get dry mouth, dying for a pop, food coma afterwards which is an excellent sign. They also have the best Har Gow (huge), pan fried radish cake (cubed), spring rolls in town. I've also come here for dinner once and it did not disappoint. The place gets busy so my suggestion is to come here during the weekday before 11am if you can - you will beat the crowds and be given a 20% off discount! read more

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Every Chinese New Year my family is looking for a new restaurant to try, whilst not wanting to risk spending money on another "standard" meal. After a thorough search on Yelp, we decided on Good Choice Restaurant. We came here for dim sum in December and rather enjoyed it. Based on that experience, we were confident their dinner would be enjoyable. First off a reservation is a must. There are 9 tables and seats range from 2-8ppl (10 for extra cozy). You don't need to crane your neck to see what the next table ordered or see your order coming out of the kitchen. After carefully sifting through the á la carte menu, we consulted with our waiter. We didn't want to order something named "Jade Moon over Pearl River near Confucius Mountain" and have 3 kinds of entrails arrive at the table. I like entrails as much as the next table, but only if it's exactly what I ordered. The waiter offered: 1. Lotus root Oyster soup 2. Deep fried crab with premium soy 3. Prawns in duck yolk sauce 4. Shitake bedded mustard greens 5. Crispy skin chicken The lotus root oyster soup tasted as if it had simmered for a good few hours in pork, and did the job of whetting our appetite. The deep fried crab was seasoned well and had a good balance of salt to pepper. How is it I have NEVER heard of premium soy?! Importantly where do I get my hands on this?! I have a feeling premium soy tastes best in the care of experienced hands. Hence it enhanced the dish making it piquant without overpowering the crab. The prawns in duck yolk sauce were a new discovery. The creamy concentrated taste of the yolk coats your taste buds then as you bite into the prawn; it mellows and sweetens as you finish the tail. Substantial meaty shitakes were sautéed in glistening oyster sauce and placed on a bed of mustard greens that were pleasantly mild. If handled incorrectly mustard greens taste quite bitter. We ordered half of a crispy chicken and it was still surprisingly tender inside, though the crispness of the skin was sacrificed a little in preparation. Then the meal finished with red bean dessert soup. It was one of the best chinese dinners we lingered over in a long time. We rolled out of the restaurant feeling it was indeed a very Good Choice. read more

I usually dont slam a diner, however this is one for the books. Made a reservation in the mid am for a group of 5 for 1pm. Arrive at 1240; table isnt ready...np. 1pm rolls around and the others arrive. np. We wait another 5min for the table they are prepping. Lo'n behold...another group shows up and the owner seats them at the very table they're prepping for us as they arrive through the tight front doorway....WTF!! I ask the owner for an explanation. ANSWER? Next coming up for you... wtf? 5 hungry patrons on their lunch break...now what?? We decided to pre-order our dishes (they grudgingly do so..) Bite my tongue, and endure another wait that seems like forever.... Finally, we're seated after they cleanup and lay a table cloth over the top and flipout the chopsticks and napkins like poker cards. Meal arrives...one at a time, we feed off one dish, wait until another shows up...this continues until the last dish. I LOVE eating chinese food ONE DISH AT A TIME....NOT!! Learned my lesson with this hole...my BAD CHOICE on this GOOD CHOICE diner. No tip here. read more

A neighborhood stalwart for classic, delicious, properly prepared Cantonese cuisine. It's a dying art even in a place like Vancouver, where other Chinese cuisines are making large inroads at the expense of the formerly ubiquitous Cantonese offerings. We often stop by to get the sticky rice lobster, Peking duck, and steamed fish - and never leave disappointed. The waitstaff is efficient and provide exceptional service for a mom-and-pop place. read more

Have been here for dinner for 4 times, and have not been let down yet. Some of the outstanding dishes are braised beef brisket, lobster (in superior broth with noodle or on top of glutinous rice with superior broth), and prawns with superior soya sauce. Other dishes I tried are also enjoyable. There is no question that they pay attention to their cooking - I guess the size of the restaurant may have contributed to the high quality of execution. This is a smaller restaurant and service is excellent even with limited staff. I recommend making reservation prior to arrival. Corny name, but GREAT food! read more

Overall quality is good but some dim sum dishes are hit and miss. I'll have to try a greater selection next time. For now, ID recommend the preserved sausage in steamed bun (kinda like a hot dog). The dumplings I had the skin was way too thick. read more

Live within 10 blocks of the restaurant and have been hunting for some good dim sum. Read the reviews for Good Choice - great, let's try this place. We get there around 6PM on a Saturday just my husband and myself. Im sure it was the fact that it was just two of us that precipitated our treatment. There were 3 empty tables available. A party walked in just ahead of us and we politely waited while the hostess sat them. A party walked in behind us and she proceeded to immediately guide them to an open table. I cant speak to the food quality but I wont be trying again due to the utter lack of customer service. read more

I don't usually eat dim sum in Vancouver 'cause of a couple of bad experiences. But, I went here based on a newspaper article and thought to give it a go. The servings are big for dim sum. Left full and very satisfied - except for one dish but it was my fault 'cause I should've stuck to what I knew. The service was good. The restaurant was also exceptionally clean for a Chinese restaurant. Would be comfortable about introducing this establishment to my discernible folks. read more

We went expecting to order reasonably priced Dim Sum. The food was neither reasonably priced nor were there many dim sum dishes that we either recognized or wanted. Chicken feet and the like are just a little too exotic for us. So we opted for Singapore Noodles and an order of Green Beans with "meat". It was mediocre and expensive and I have no idea what the meat was. The bill was north of $27 by the time we got out the door. One more thing; this place serves shark fin soup and should probably be boycotted for that alone. read more

Good food, excellent prices, extremely slow service. Our 2nd round of 1 order of XLB and dessert jello took 27 min from ordering to table, and there were only 4 other tables of people at the time. Too slow. read more
