Came here on recommendation and had an amazing dim sum lunch at Haiyi Seafood restaurant. We ordered bbq pork buns, scallop chun fun, beef tendon, eggplant shrimp. The soy sauce chicken was nicely done very tender and moist. Service fast and friendly. Lots of options for tea flavours. Only thing that stood out was the manager seemed standoffish and not conversational. Seems out of place wit the atmosphere and rest of the staff. The servers were definitely more friendly and engaged in their work with the customers. Overall good quality dim sum lunch. Would like to come back to try the dinner.

I've driven by this place often. 'Hidden Gem", imo since you can blow past this place with the small parking lot out front. AND it's been around for years. Do know why I didn't come in sooner. This will change. Find parking on the Main street in this area could prove challenging, or just go into the 'hidden' pay park lot behind the restaurant, less than 2-3 houses away. You can walk off some-of-the meal when leaving. I will say just one thing that will get you there. Asian Comfort food and seafood. Winning combo imo. The simple "pick-your-flavour (favourite) items" menu keeps things easy; AND best of all 'early bird and departure' discounts. Im NOT going to complain. What to recommend... Naw, you can figure your choices out easily. It's all good. Making another pitstop there real soon. Maybe I'll see you there.

A hole in the wall restaurant with a good senior following. Dimsum is average but price is very cheap and reasonable. Table service is available. Went to dinner and food made you full. Order $50 worth of food and you get half a soya chicken free. Their soya chicken is yummy! (And have to request)

I came here recently as part of a large weeknight group dinner. It's a small-ish place, but surprisingly even on a Wed night it was full. I'm sure it gets even busier on the weekends. Anyone who knows me knows I love my family-style Cantonese dinners! They're my go-to for special occasions and I always appreciate a good meal with fresh seafood, meat, and veggies. It was my first time at Haiyi. Overall I thought the dishes were good but not amazing, and my favorites were the fresh seafood. Here's what we had (** mark my favorites): Fried tofu **Squab **Russian king crab cooked 3 ways - steamed, stirfried, and the shell was served with fried rice topped with seafood curry **Ling cod cooked 2 ways - casserole with tofu and pork, stirfried fillet with peas Curry shrimp Chicken stuffed with glutinous rice Stir fried beans Stir fried beef and eggplant Sweet and sour pork **Dessert (complimentary): black sesame pudding, small almond cookies, osmanthus jelly We ordered way too much food, and our table had plenty of leftovers to take home. The whole meal wasn't cheap, especially with all the seafood. We ended up paying $110 pp after tax and tip. There's apparently underground parking which I wasn't aware of until other people told me. I parked 2 blocks away on 30th with free residential parking, but there's metered parking available closer to the restaurant as well.

We came here for the abalone as it was highly recommended. Ordered the premium Japanese abalone per person and holy molly! It was delicious. The sauce was perfectly flavoured and the restaurant added some very fresh fish maw and pea tip to accompany this dish. The abalone was cooked perfectly and every bite was super satisfying. We then had the groupa fish made in 2 styles. 1) steamed Cantonese style with a very delicious steamed fish sauce atop with finely chopped ginger and green onion 2) stir fry sliced groupa with medley veggies. We had green bean soup with seaweed and almond cookies to end the dinner. Yum! An amazing dinner overall. Would love to come here for dim sum soon!

We sooo envy people living along or close to Main St just cos of all the dining options available . If one were to try every single restaurant on Main it'll take . . . I dunno . . . Months ? ! A favourite of ours is Haiyi . Sure they're slightly pricey for the area but they do deliver on good if not great Cantonese fare . A recent discovery is their hand-chopped , minced pork pie with preserved veg which you have to preorder and it's totally worth the hassle . And yes their Alaskan King crab is absolutely divine ! !

Recently referred by a family friend to try this restaurant, as the Chef is supposedly from Taste Good Seafood Restaurant on Marine Drive, one of his signature dish is the Crispy Chicken with Sticky Rice, he is also famous for his Double Boiled Chicken and Pig Tripe Soup. As we passed by the neighbourhood, we stopped by to try their Dim Sum lunch, we came at around 12:30pm on a Thursday and the dining room was semi busy, we got a table right away. Dim Sum menu is your regular fare, nothing jumped out. All the dim sum were done with above average standard, I would say this would be good alternative to come as it would be easier to get a table more so then others around the area. After looking around for other items they are promoting: such as Sea Bass in a Hot Pot, Fresh Lobster and of course their Crispy Chicken with Sticky Rice, Haiyi will be on my list for a Chinese Dinner gathering with friends. Just to see if indeed the Chef has kept his skills from the previous restaurant he made famous!!

Christmas dim sum for us! First time for dim sum and everything was as expected. Fresh Chinese doughnuts wrapped in rice noodles was good (not overnight ones). The shrimp rice noodles were tasty. Their turnip rice cake could have been pan fried a bit more so it gets that nice crispness to contrast the creamy inside. Deep fried shrimp salad rolls were crispy and mayo-y on the inside. One of the better ones that I've tried. How the har gow? Delicious! Big pieces of shrimp with a thin rice wrap. All in all, a solid dim sum experience!

Came here for a family dinner. Parking is available in the lot in front of the building, as well as on the side streets. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious. They have partitions for private events as well. Looks like they've renovated recently. Staff were friendly and professional. Food was overall quite tasty. No complaints. Consistent with all the other Chinese restaurants out there. Quality is quite good. See photos. Pricing was very reasonable as well, at under $20 a person.

This is an update to my previous review. I had to change the star rating from 4 to 3 stars. My second time going there was not as good as my first time. There is some inconsistency in the chef's culinary skill. Guess it depends on his mood. Also it does take a long time for the food to come out. Guess I won't be going there any more. ------- I am surprised about this place. You really have to try their specialty crab. Its very flavourful. I would say the rating would be a 4 stars due to flavor and reason why its not a 5 is because the meat was over cooked (or maybe its just so with the crab we ordered). It's definitely getting there to be a 5. Also if you dine in here monday to friday, the crab is $20 each. The other dishes we ordered: Braised spareribs Pumpkin + Seafood Soy Sauce Chicken Every dish was very tasty. I really liked it. Very authentic and the chef is really skilled in his culinary art. The restaurant is kind of small. So its not like they have a lot of tables. Have to come early and make sure you make a reservation. As well, parking is limited in their parking lot. Good thing is that there are free parking spots on the street.

We ordered three dishes and it was more than enough food for three of us. Some items on the menu didn't have English translation. I had Cantonese speakers with me to translate, but I wish they had English translation on the menu. Rice in Clay Pot - minced pork and octopus on rice in clay pot $35.20 $8.80 for one order and min. 4 orders There was so much rice in the clay pot. I recommend ordering this if you have 6+ people. Scallops & Eggplant dish $23.80 (I'm not sure what the actual name of this dish is because there was no English translation on the menu) The eggplant was very flavorful and I loved it! I will definitely order this dish again! Beef and Vegetables with rice noodles $16.80 This was such a good deal! Very generous portion which can feed multiple people!! The pic was taken after serving three plates (almost forgot to take a pic.) We shared all three dishes amongst the three of us and we have leftovers for the next 3 meals!!

    This was good

This place was not to bad in terms of their food. They were kind enough to try to accommodate us with our noodle request but missed the target with the type of noodle they used. I appreciated the effort. It is more on the pricer side. We were craviNg for the small deep fried silver fish. They do not serve that during dinner time. I believe it was just for morning. Here is what we ordered: please was about a little less then $150 for three people. Parking is a bit tough. They do have underground parking but it didn't look as safe to park after a day of shopping. So there is outside parking where it is visible. We had fried rice which was obviously finished before I could take a photo! But it's definitely a spot for drinking as well.

We started with a plate of the BBQ Duck, and it was absolute perfection--packed with so much lean, incredibly flavorful meat. Then we ordered the Signature Four Treasures Chef's Plate on Steamed Rice. Talk about a masterpiece! It comes with BBQ Pork, Soy Sauce Chicken, Roasted Pork, and half a Salty Duck Egg. Honestly, every single element was so delicious that I genuinely couldn't pick a favorite. To top off an already amazing meal, their black lychee tea was out of this world. I loved it so much I actually asked if I could buy some to take home! They don't retail it, but the staff was so sweet and told me, "You can drink as much as you like here." New Town Bakery is one of those Chinatown staples that feels like a rite of passage in Vancouver…read more We headed there for breakfast, excited for pastries and a classic bakery experience, and decided to dine in. Once we sat down and were handed the full menu, though, I had a brief moment of panic. The menu is huuuge and varied, plus none of the items I had mentally planned on ordering were on there. We pivoted and ordered pork siu mai, congee, look fun noodles, and a few steamed buns (they're especially known for those). The congee, noodles, and siu mai were all fine--very standard, not particularly memorable. In fairness, they weren't what I came for in the first place, so that probably shaped my expectations. The real standouts were the pork asado siopao and the chicken deluxe (bola bola). Both have Filipino roots, and the siopao especially brought a comforting sense of familiarity--soft, fluffy, and filled with that sweet-savory pork that felt like home. Those alone made the visit worthwhile. They actually have quite a few other Filipino influenced items like hopia and puto which was surprising. Ironically, it was only after we left that I noticed the sign on the window highlighting their most popular items--exactly what first-timers should probably stick to. I had ordered a few pastries to go with the intention of trying them later... and then completely forgot about them, which I'm still a little sad about. Overall, it was a good visit with a clear lesson learned: go in with a game plan and order the hits. It's a beloved Vancouver institution for a reason, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by--just know it's cash only and do a little pre-order research so you can make the most of it. I'd give it more like a 3.5 vs a 4 star, but I'm already planning a redo focused purely on the classics.

She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.
