I ordered ribs, turkey, sausage and brisket Togo for a holiday meal. I did not order sides. I was a bit disappointed in the menu because they don't offer pulled pork. I ordered about 3.5 lbs of meat and it was ready in 15 minutes. All the meats I ordered were amazing, though. Very tender and had that perfect grilled taste. The half portions are a little small for the price but what can ya do? The standouts were the brisket and the ribs. The bbq sauce however, needs some work. It is has zero flavor. read more

Tried to go to another local place with live music - they were rented out for a private event. So we came here for some BBQ. Split a 3-meat combo (Czech sausage, Pork ribs, Brisket) that came with two sides (Mac & Cheese, Dirty Rice). The sausage was good, but tough on the outside (chewy skin). The ribs were also good. The brisket was dry and needed a solid dousing of sauce to be edible. The mac and cheese was good. The dirty rice was good. They were out of green beans, which is the side we really wanted, and one of the other sides we had chosen. I get that we showed up at 7:45pm on a Friday night, but I wish they had all the sides left/available. The service at the front cafeteria style was polite and explained things just fine. Overall, pretty decent BBQ. I wouldn't make it a destination for someone coming from out of town who only has 3-4 restaurant meals to eat before heading back home, though. read more

Goode Company bbq has been around forever but I don't know why I never ventured out to try it! For some reason, I usually think of eating Texas bbq when guests are in town, and also when I travel to other parts of Texas. However, my husband and son both wanted some brisket today so we decided to come check out Goode Company. I have to say, we were not disappointed! I almost always get turkey at Texas bbq because honestly, that's the only way I really enjoy Turkey. Goode company's turkey was moist, tender, with a nice Smokey flavor that I love about barbecue. Delicious! Ribs were tender, well seasoned, and very enjoyable. Brisket was also soft, moist, and not overly salty so that it paired perfectly with their barbecue sauce (which I liked quite a lot). I loved the sides too. And loved that the green beans had plentiful bacon in it, and the baked beans had good sized chunks of brisket. There was even baked apples in there! Amazing! Unfortunately, my 7 year old found both the green beans and baked beans too "spicy". He, however, loved the soft pillow jalepeno cheese bread which we also liked very much. Everyone was happy with the food and we all left satisfied. My order of Lean Brisket with jambalaya and green beans yesterday was really comforting, really flavorful, moist, savory and really delicious. The brisket was smoky, beefy, seasoned enough and easy to cut. The jambalaya was savory in its own spiced fashion with chunks of homemade sausage I think. The green beans were oniony, meaty, spiced with cumin or something, crunchy and had a tingle of sweetness. The bbq sauce was solid in tomato base, mildly sweet, peppery and beefy all in one mix. The service was very welcoming and efficient. Everything in terms of every bite of the meal was top notch with 0 flaws. If you have been in Houston for any extended amount of time, Goode Company is a name I am sure you have seen at some point. The Goode name is associated with a variety of restaurants like seafood, a taqueria, a cantina, American food/event space, and of course their popular BBQ. I've had their food catered at events at people's houses, work and of course the Rodeo. I just recently finally stepped foot into their OG BBQ spot on Kirby. We originally were going to eat at their sister restaurant Armadillo Palace next door, but the smell of BBQ had us moseying on over here. You can't miss it, it's probably the only barn on Kirby. They have a decent sized parking lot out back. Outside they have a large patio with lots of big tables. They also have fan and misters on for those hot Texas days. It was a little hot so I was happy to see they have inside seating as well. Inside dining space is pretty tight but available. We must have walked in at the right time because there was plenty of seats right then, but it quickly got busy after we sat down. Customer service was really good from the ordering line to folks checking in on us constantly throughout our meal. Like most other BBQ spots, you have a cafeteria style line. You pick your items and go enjoy your meal. Same here. They offer meats by weight, plates, baked potatoes, sandwiches, sides and dessert. I usually go with a three meat plate but went with the two as I had dinner plans later. I judge a BBQ spot on brisket, ribs, and sausage so I went with the first two and got to try sausage from one of my dining companions plates. For my sides, I had to get the mac & cheese and let the man behind the counter pick my other side which ended up being southwest green beans. The plates also come with a slice of jalapeno cheese bread and sauce. You can help yourself to all the pickles, jalapenos and onions to go with your meal. First thing I went for was the rib. The rib was seasoned nice and almost fall off the bone tender. The brisket was ok. I'm used to big thick slices but this was very thin, tiny pieces of meat. That being said, the food is slightly cheaper than some of the big name BBQ spots in town so you get what you pay for. The sides were really good to me. Mac was solid but the star of the whole show was the green beans. I kept saying how much I liked them throughout my meal. I washed it all down with ice cold lemonade. It was a little too tangy for me, but solid. The desserts looked great, but no room this time around. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here. Hearing that Goode Company had one of the best pecan pies in Texas, we were intrigued. So we ordered slices of this famed pie online, as well as barbecue and sides, slowly trudged through Houston traffic, and showed up 15 minutes later than the scheduled time for our pickup. And they hadn't even started our order yet! They weren't even unusually busy. Yup, it's one of those places we've all experienced that doesn't carefully monitor their online orders, thus failing to prepare your food until you show up and tell them you have an online order (which completely defeats the purpose). I got the ole "They're almost done with your order" which means "We haven't started your order." I could see them scrambling to find it on the screen as I peered through the walk-up window at the employee assembly line. That disappointment aside, I gave them a fair shot and decided to rate the food appropriately rather than the online experience. Well, that was pretty disappointing too. In a state that prides itself on exceptional barbecue, this isn't a place that adds to that lore. The brisket at Goode Co. is shockingly underwhelming, while the white mac 'n' cheese is slightly better than okay. The jalapeño bread is the only exceptional menu item. I could've eaten a whole loaf of that stuff! And that legendary pecan pie? It's okay, but it isn't nearly the best in Texas. And it definitely won't top the best pecan pies I've eaten in Georgia and Tennessee. read more

The menu was quite extensive and there was a lot of meat to choose from, as well as sides. Prices seemed reasonable. Desserts were delicious too. Portions are huge, hence why I brought up that remark about having an empty stomach. There isn't a lot of seating available inside, plus the place (obviously) can get rather noisy. It seems the pork ribs are no longer smoked like previously. They taste disgusting now after 2 new visits. They have a sour aftertaste to me. I called and spoke to the new manager concerning this and he said they are cooking the same since the beginning of the restaurant. Fantastic Stuffed potato, smoking friendly staff, decent Q, disorganized dinner service. That would be the one-liner for GCBBQ. It was a Friday night, not very busy, and just before what would be considered a the dinner rush. Had a few brewskies waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. Had already noticed the condiment (picked, onions, jalapeños) station was low before dinner service. When we came up to order, was told by employee #1 that there were not baked potato's available. That was then confirmed by employee #2 down the line. Then employee #3 who actually did the potatoes, miraculously had one available. Well, we needed two, because that's what we felt like having. I asked if there was another, was told no by E#2. Ok, as I waited for the rest of my order to get assembled, out of no where, E#3 asked if I wanted that 2nd potato...like it's been there all along. Confused, but happy, I gladly said yes. Clearly a breakdown in comms along the line. The condiment station was still empty save for the onions so I went back to my table. 10m later I figured it would have been refilled. Nope. It was in the process, the gent handling it not having much of a sense of urgency. It was finally reloaded and me and several others waiting was able to get some fixins with our Q. The stuffed baked potato was pretty outstanding I have to say. Beautifully fluffy, great ratio of toppings inclined sour cream, and the chopped brisket was a nice paring. We also got a 2 meat plate as well, just to try the brisket and sausage in their own right. The brisket was good, not great. Even the moist crust was a little on the drier side. The Czech sausage was also a winner of the night, VERY good. Oh, and that Mac and Cheese, one of the best I've had at a Q joint. Again, the staff were all SUPER nice and friendly, which I really appreciated. The dinner service organization and prep could have been better. Ps. And yes, the bbq sauce was interesting. It was very tomato based and forward, not as tangy as other sauces. Was it bad, not at all if you look at it as a diff spin on a sauce. This place was empty when I walked in on a Sunday afternoon it's a small place inside. I was skeptical but I gave it a chance and I was pleasantly surprised. It was really good! I had their rice and macaroni as my sides and they were both great. Most of the times the sides at bbq places aren't all that so that's was a plus. The brisket was real juicy not dry at all. Awful. Truly. I've lived in Texas 32 years (got here at age 22) and my mother was born and raised. Her sister has lived in Lockhart since 1972 so maybe I'm spoiled, but ... no. This was just bad bbq. It's about as bad as Bill Miller's and that's saying something. The bbq sauce tastes like thick tomato sauce/puree from a can. There is zero seasoning to it, much less kick. No sauces are available to carry tableside, no variations are offered. There is no tang to it. The brisket has an indeterminate but offensive chemical taste to it -- what wood are they smoking this over? None I've ever experienced. The jalapeño cheese bread has about 3% of either. You step into line cafeteria style after selecting your beer or in my case Topo Chico- picking up silverware and adding it to your tray. A series of servers is ready to weigh out the meats and add your selections. The brisket plate includes two sides and light and fluffy jalapeño cheese bread. The Mac and cheese was creamy and dreamy. The green beans nicely seasoned and flavored with pork. The brisket was tender and flavorful. It hardly needed the tangy barbecue sauce. I splurged on the chocolate pie. Oh My! The first thing you see when you enter is a dark, wood-floored old dining area with a very worn saddle in the middle and an old jukebox. It is a typical Texas BBQ ordering-style restaurant where you go down the cafeteria-style line and order your food. I had a two-meat plate featuring brisket and jalapeño sausage, baked beans, and potato salad, all come with a slice of jalapeño bread. The meat was super tender but the sauce had little flavor. The beans had mushy potatoes mixed in, but good flavor, and the potato salad was really good. We weren't sure if we were actually given the wrong kind, because we couldn't taste any flavor of jalapeño, nor did we see any pieces of it inside. We were expecting for it to be pretty flavorful and it just wasn't. Also, the barbecue sauce tasted like tomato soup, which we were not expecting at all and was not good.
