Legit delicious Texas bbq. Sauce was tasty and well seasoned. I had the three meat plate, and the pork ribs were meaty, and not Fady, the brisket was good, nothing special, and the barbecue chicken was my favorite, as it was tender and nicely seasoned. Barbecue here is pretty good. Not the best that I've had, but quite delicious. I really enjoyed the jalapeño cheddar sausage, which had a good snap from the casing, a great spice from the jalapeños, and a nice moistness from the sausage itself. I was a little disappointed with the brisket, as it was dryer and leaner than I would personally like. I chose potato salad and macaroni as my sides. The potato salad was good, but the macaroni was the real winner. It was super cheesy and delicious. Our most favorite #1 daughter had motored from her home on AustinTX to join family for a few days, and one evening I treated the three of us to a lovely meat-filled meal. We walked a short distance --no point in competing for a (motor) vehicle space--and joined a rather lengthy queue to place our order. Surprisingly, it moved rather quickly, and we were soon sitting outside under the awning gnawing the plated BBQ brisket/sausage/chicken. We had thought we might have some leftovers for a future meal, but it was just so dang delicious, and it was later than usual. I feel bad saying this but in all my years this is the worst Bbq I've ever had in Tx or otherwise. The food was almost inedible. Ribs with too much black pepper and the little meat on it was so tough you had to gnaw it off the bone. Brisket so dry the lackluster BBQ sauce couldn't save it. The Mac and Cheese was bland the only thing I enjoyed was the small portion of rice. I got 1 pound of chopped brisket, a 2 meat plate with ribs and an extra portion of brisket. This almost $50 meal came with NO BREAD I had to buy bread to go with this beef jerky they called brisket. Finally service was unacceptable. I pull up to curbside pick call them . The woman says I'll be out in a moment. 20 minutes later I walk up to the to go window and ask about my food. That was apparently just sitting under the heat lamp. She turns around hands it to me and I go. Honestly this place is not for bbq fans. This place is for out of towners and west u soccer moms who don't know better. I have had their compechana de Mariscos for 40 years and always delicious. Today I got one and paid extra for extra shrimp and crab. There was 2 pieces of shrimp and maybe fragments of crab because the sauce was like your salsa that's 3 days old. An employee was with me when searching for seafood. We dug halfway down the serving dish to no shrimp and crab. I was given a card for another one but it expires in three days. I had ordered the family pack for 10 for Mother's Day. It comes 5lbs of meat and 3 quarts of sides and jalapeño cheese bread. We got the brisket and jalapeño sausage for the meat. I liked the sausage but the brisket wasn't that great. The BBQ sauce was delicious. The tomato flavor was kinda strong but I liked it. The sauce was much needed as the brisket lacked flavor. The three sides we ordered were potato salad, Cole slaw, and Mac and cheese. Again, nothing special. My favorite was the cheese bread. It was super soft. Highly recommend. One of our Houston BBQ institutions - this is a good place to take visitors. The interior is aggressively Texan themed, in a good way, so the vibes are automatically set. Most seating is communal at large picnic tables outside (covered), so be prepared to sweat if the weather isn't behaving. You will find all of your typical BBQ staples here - meat plates, sides, giant baked potatoes, and some sweets. Pricing seems to be on-par with other BBQ places around. Their BBQ sauce is not my favorite, but the meat is flavorful enough on its own to where you don't really need it. There is a pretty large parking lot behind the restaurant, so should not be an issue. read more

We visited for the first time yesterday. The free pecan pie given to first time guests was the best thing we ate which isn't saying much. We're from out of state visiting MD Anderson but have eaten at other BBQ places in Texas, Kansas City, Oklahoma and Nashville. This was a disappointment. I've never been to a place where they ladle the BBQ sauce onto your brisket (meat). Typically the bottles are at the table with several choices. The brisket was okay with a smoky flavor but the sauce was lackluster. The Austin bbq beans were so sweet as to be inedible. The Spanish rice had been sitting out too long. It was dry and gummy and the addition of ham pieces was odd. The hotel recommended this restaurant so we were very disappointed. BTW, we were there around 4:45pm so nothing should've been stale as they should've been getting prepared for the Friday night rush. read more

I got the 2 meat plate so I could try a few things. I got the turkey and sausage. I asked for recommendations on which sides to get. Employee suggested rice and potato salad. I'm not a potato salad fan so I asked for next suggestion so I got the rice and macaroni and cheese. Comes with jalapeño bread. I was surprised on a recommendation for rice at a BBQ place, but wow, it was great rice! I'd describe as a BBQ fried rice. Macaroni and cheese was on point too. Fresh off of our flight, we had lunch at Goode's based on a recommendation from my best friend and brother. It was a short drive from our accommodations and parking is free and ample. I had the brisket plate. The brisket cut like butter. The sauce was a great accompaniment. It was rich and tomatoey. The potato salad is just like I like it with no onions. The jalapeño garlic bread is a signature here and was a surprise. It is a little spicy. The pecan pie is thick, rich, and so good. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance was pretty cool pulling up and seeing all the wood stacked up outside. As a first timer, it's not the most intuitive ordering system. The service left a lot to be desired. It was pretty empty when I showed up for a late lunch. I was greeted with a blank stare, and not much guidance when I asked for how the ordering procedure goes. A smile can go a long way to making customers feel comfortable. You basically point at a meat and sides and it's then served on a plate or in my case a to go container. For the food itself, it was a solid place. I read online ahead of time that burnt ends is the Wednesday special. But when I mentioned it I was looked at like I was crazy. Then told that we have brisket. Thankfully the soft and tender brisket saved the entire meal. The sausage was a little dry but has good flavor. The ribs were a little tough and lacking flavor. The bbq sauce drizzled all over was a great addition. I wasn't a huge fan of pineapple in the baked beans. The slice of bread made a great addition to wipe up the bbq sauces for a good bite. The bread was suppose to be a jalapeño bread but it went unnoticed. I don't think I will be back anytime soon when there is so much good bbq competition. read more

I think the secret to this place and many other bbq places is to get a sandwich or baked potato with meats on it. Their a la carte meats are fine, too. But some might not be impressed.
