Big fan of Goode. Are they expensive, yes, but you get what you pay for. I've had them out a few times now and felt the need to write a review to let others know what a great job they do. My wife had Alex out a few weeks back when we found water coming through our bathroom ceiling. He quickly assessed the situation and provided a quote to our upstairs neighbor to fix the issue. The neighbors decided to have "a friend" do the work, but I wanted to be sure it was done right so I happily paid to have Alex back out to confirm the work. He spent almost an hour running diagnostics (basically spraying water everywhere in their shower) to confirm that the leak was taken care of. Then he took the time to answer additional questions I had about plumbing in my unit. Super nice guy and would definitely recommend him to anyone. Thanks Alex and thanks Goode. read more

Called Goode Plumbing after reading the predominantly positive reviews from another review "List." Spoke with Mike Goode, the owner of the business who also seems like a nice guy and was very accomodating. Had three tasks that needed to be done: change a kitchen sink fixture, water heater maintenance, fix a leaky shower head. Estimate was $695. Kind of expensive but time off from work is scarce, so I'll pay a premium if the job can be done well the first time around. John, his assistant, came and completed all the work in a couple of hours. After he was done, I noticed that the shower head was still leaking. He said that it would stop in several minutes and left. Later that day, I noticed that the shower head was still leaking. I called Mike Goode who said that the replacement part they used may have been defective. Kind of annoying, but it happens. John came back replaced the part and the leak stopped. As part of the repair process, he manipulated the main cold water shut off valve to the whole house. Later that evening, I noticed that the main valve had developed a slow leak. I immedately called Mike Goode who offered to come look at it at midnight. The leak wasn't that bad so I said that it could wait til the morning. That morning, Mike came, examined the valve, tightened the packing nut a little bit and applied sealing compound. He said that if that didn't work, he would have to replace the whole valve which would be a major project. Understandably, he didn't seem that enthusiastic about the prospect of replacing the whole main valve. Well, the valve continued to leak. We even waited for 5 days to see if the leak would at least slow down. It didn't. So, we decided to call a bigger, more established plumbing company who does jobs for Lakeshore Fitness, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, etc - Fettes, Love, and Sieben. They came right away. The plumber was very nice and examined the valve throroughly. He said that the packing nut was really loose, tightened it a few turns and the leak stopped. He also said that sealing compound that was used earlier wouldn't work with the type of valve we had. We're just glad that we didn't have to undergo a major valve replacement. Bottom Line: Mike Goode seems like a really nice guy trying to do good work, but the next time I need a plumber, I'm calling the guys at Fettes, Love, and Sieben. read more

If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. This company was by far the most knowledgable I have spoken too ever. Jake and Eric came out to my place of business on a Friday night to install a new tankless water heater. The compassion they had for my business being closed because of no hot water for 5 days was beyond what I have ever received from a service company. The passion these 2 had was so refreshing. There are still honest quality plumbing companies out there and this is the only one I can say is all that plus some. I would highly recommend them for any of your work. I got a new dishwasher installed and it was discovered the drain pipes were very thin and started leaking. I contacted Goode because they had a high rating. When the gentlemen arrived, surveyed the work and presented me with the estimate I nearly fainted. The charge was almost exactly the cost of the dishwasher! I decided to have them do the work because a: I had already been washing my dishes in the bathroom sink for 3 days, and b: I would already be out the $60 charge for them just coming out. They were professional and seemed to do a good job, so I give them high marks for that. But just a warning, if you're on a budget I'd definitely look elsewhere first! read more

Unfortunately, there was a misdiagnosis with the problem (I live in a large condo building so I understand it can be challenging to find the source of water issues,) but Goode plumbing refunded me and made it right without me even having to ask. I could not be more impressed with the expertise and top-notch service I received from the team of Alex, Brian and Karly at Goode. They diagnosed and fixed my problem immediately where previous plumbers from another well-known plumbing company failed after several visits. The Goode plumbers worked until 6:00 on a Saturday without complaint, rushing or emergency charges. Goode provided next-day service when I called and, after inspection by their quality assurance specialist, gave me costs up front. A plumber with many years of experience then fixed the problem. Our tankless water heater started streaming water in the basement while we were at work today. Around 4:30 we got home and turned off the water and called Goode Plumbing. I was pretty sure we were still under warranty since it was under 2 years old but wasn't sure who installed the water heater (we had a contractor). They were totally wonderful. They immediately figured out the problem and patiently waited (for hours) on hold with the company to get warranty information and figure out how to replace the unit. I remodeled a gutted out basement that had no pre-existing bathroom. I called out Goode to come take a look and give an estimate in my freshly demo'd space. He gave and assessment and a few different options for build out of a bathroom depending on the direction I took with the remodeling. I ended up replacing a lot of the old pipes (with copper) which increased pressure to the upstairs bathrooms; laid out new pipes in the basement and added PVC, and built out a full bathroom with soaking tub and rainfall shower. This is a well prepared company. They had various staff to come in and work as needed (since the general contractor at times lagged on other work) around the rest of the work being done in the basement. If you ever had major work done on your home, you know there's a lot of dependencies especially with multiple contractors involved. In all... it was a good experience with quality craftsmanship and a superb value. I definitely recommend this company to anyone desiring a plumber they can trust for your long-term home owner needs. read more

We live in a 6 unit condo building - and our hot water tank died recently. It was about 15-20 years old. Mike Goode suggested a smaller energy efficient model for us - there was even a rebate on this type of tank, saving us another $1000. His price was lower than 2 other estimates we got - and the work was done quickly and efficiently. Great service on the replacement of my 1958 toilet. Very complicated installation and it was done in under 3 hours. The lead plumber was Brian. He's a pro, so I'm sure he had many positive reviews. So, I'll focused on his assistant, Karly. She was outstanding - professional, polite and an excellent communicator. My husband and I have been working with Goode plumbing for a few years (since moving to Chicago), they have been wonderful to work with and each time have a group of folks that are friendly and take the time to walk through what is needed and why. Over the years we have needed several items (pipe replacement, toilet fixes, etc.) and the service has been excellent. Recently had them out today to fix an outdoor faucet which the two gentlemen were very professional and courteous. My rental property's 2-month old water heater wouldn't fire up so I called Goode to see if they can help me out. When I set up the appointment, Jeannette from their office got pretty detailed with my issues and other background information including make & model of my heater. At the set appointment time, the technicians, Alex & Tino showed up promptly on time, put on their shoe covers and got to work. Everything went downhill after that: I am not sure if both technicians don't know this model well or water heater in general. They had to FaceTime another technician to help them out step-by-step on various occasions. Wasn't the make & model provided when the appointment was set? After performed their "level one diagnostic" which costs $253, they came up with a $3,245 quote to rebuild/repair this 2-month old water heater & the result is not guaranteed when this very water heater costs $1,200 new from Home Depot?!?!?! The technician, Alex, was very eager to sell me their 1-year, 3-year & VIP membership in addition to a brand-new water heater for $4,400. The entire process feels more like a sales pitch than a repair or diagnosis. At that point, my best bet is to cut my losses, pay for the useless $253 "level one diagnostic" and move on. read more

Got goode reccommedation from manufacturer of tankless water heater that was not putting out hot water all the time. Fritz came to my house opened the panel and told my daughter and me over the phone that he had to go to his car and trouble shoot the issues we were having. He came back about 15 mins and said he couldn't find any info on them and that even if he did they don't make parts for the water heaters anymore. At the same time my wife was on the phone with the manufacturer and was told they were still in business and still produced tankless water heaters and still made parts for them. Fritz then said he couldn't do anything to them that would make them work but he could install a a new one. The estimate for a new tankless water heater and the installation was going to be $7200. He then went on about not to worry goode plumbing company finances. I told him I would have to talk it over with my wife because that was a lot of money. He then called my wife later and said they could put a cheaper heater in for $5800. LATER THAT NIGHT my got home and realized how cold the house was. Now I'm not gonna point fingers but the toggle switch to our furnace was shut off. Maybe gravity pulled it down. Anyhow glad to say that whole ordeal only cost us $60. I then called a professional honest plumber who also charged us $60 to look at our water heaters and his opinion was that our water heaters were fine and just needed to be serviced. $120 total and 20 minutes later we had continuous running hot water. So if you want to get a hold of an honest plumber, I would be happy to share his info. read more

The other day I attempted to adjust the mixer in my shower as it was scalding people. It looked like a simple project...that turned into something much more complicated when the nozzle wouldn't work any more to turn off the water. But it all ended ok as Goode Plumbing came to help. I called them right after I couldn't get the water to shut off from the nozzle and had to shut off the water in the entire house. Mike got in touch with me within 30 minutes of calling to say that while they were booked, he was going to try his hardest to get to our house as soon as he could since we couldn't turn on our water until this was fixed. He had me text him pictures of the issue so that he could ensure he had everything he needed. He was great about keeping me appraised of his progress all day and was able to come right around 5. Once there, I asked to watch as he fixed the faucet so I could see where I had gone wrong. He replaced the two Koehler parts and explained to me how they were actually difficult to figure out since they weren't labeled at all. He also ensure we had all of the correct valves turned off. We're in the bottom unit of a three unit building, so we have all of the shut-off valves. He also ensured that my original issue of the water mixing improperly was resolved and that everything was in working order, including advising us on how to fill a hole by the bathtub spout to ensure water wasn't' getting into the wall. He showed me, too where the shut off valves for just the shower are for future reference. (Turns out the tiling company hadn't cut the hole large enough so we couldn't access them.) Mike was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I greatly appreciated him coming out on such short notice and ensuring that everything was working as it should. I would highly recommend Goode Plumbing, and we will definitely calling them exclusively in the future. read more

Replaced hot water heater with high quality new one. Removed and replaced all pipes in the basement that were not copper (galvanized) from the main coming into the house to all existing pipes going up into house. All other pipes in the house were copper, it was mainly the horizontal pipes in the basement that were the old galvanized. Comments: Goode Plumbing did a fantastic job in replacing my hot water heater and the old pipes and replacing with new copper. I had a concept of how the job should be done and it exceeded my expectations. Mike Goode initially came to my home and listened to all my wants and concerns. He assured me that all that I wanted could be done. When his crew arrived, he forwarded all my desires and concerns them and they delivered. Develle, Jose, and Donny worked in my home for 4 days and were the picture of professionalism the entire time. The quality of the work was excellent and I couldn't be happier with the work they did. The reason we had the work done is because the water pressure had diminished over time to where it had to be fixed. One look at the inside of the old galvanized pipes (besides being grossed out) showed me why my water pressure was poor. You could not see through the pipe. With the work completed, we have excellent pressure on the second floor now. It was my responsibility to make all pipes accessible requiring me to remove paneling and some drywall (which I will replace). I decided to use Goode Plumbing because of the reviews on Angie's List and I am glad I did. Do not hesitate to use this company for your plumbing needs. They will now be my go to plumber in the future. read more

Save your money. These guys are WAY over priced. The guy was really nice but they installed a $100 garbage disposal and charged over $700 and was here for an hour. You can find a good plumber (angie's list is full of them) for even $100 an hour and save yourself at least $500. read more

We had to have some substantial work done (including digging up of a portion of a driveway to clear a blockage in a pipe) they were quick to come out, knew their stuff and very professional. After all this work and expense however we were still having an issue with our kitchen sink - Goode came straight back out and spent a lot of time diagnosing the issue (during this process we all discovered our buildings plumbing is very unusual and made their job very difficult) - after several visits Goode managed to fix the problem and did not charge us additional fees. We've called on Goode for a few minor things - installing a vintage sink, checking/stopping a random leak in our 100+ year old plumbing. But this was the big one. We had a leak in our sewage pipe. The basement stunk. I mean. You could go down there, but you didn't really want to breathe. I called Goode and Ken came out to take a look. He took the time to make sure I thoroughly understood the problem, what the implications were, and how the systems in the house interconnected. He explained things so they made sense, and did it without making me feel dumb or talked down to. We started the work 4 days later, and Ken and his assistant (whose name I have forgotten - apologies!!) were vigilant about keeping the upstairs as clean as possible, working efficiently, and keeping me apprised of their progress. Despite a minor setback, they finished the job a full day ahead of schedule, and bang on estimate. When they left, you could basically eat off the basement floor (um, not that you'd want to, but you get what I mean). We'll be recommending Goode to anyone who needs a plumber, and they will continue to be our go-to. read more

I had them come out to install sinks (bathroom drop-ins and kitchen sink/disposal) after a thorough visit and quoting process. Had to fix a number of issues afterward (including improper drains and seals preventing the bathroom sinks from draining...). Fine, but: a couple months after the new kitchen sink and disposal were installed the pipe just pops off the wall and the disposal falls off of the sink, resulting in a sink full of water all over the cabinets, flooring, and downstairs drywall (which is now being completely replaced). Only asked them to re-install properly (with or without a disposal) but they would not stand by the "warranty" I was told about. Instead they insisted on an additional $500 since for the "new job" the way they installed it originally was "not really up to code." Really? Strange considering the price I paid for the work and that this was done at their recommendation. read more

A warning about Goode Plumbing. The company provides good and reliable service but they are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I recently had a new kitchen countertop and sink installed by a contractor. I called Goode Plumbing to have the sink and garbage disposal, both of which I provided, connected to the predrilled source. The only material Goode Plumbing provided was the tubular tubing for under the sink. The plumber spent no more than 1 1/2 hours at my home and I was charged $1,400, which included a $150 coupon discount! Goode Plumbing has a policy not to provide any type of estimates over the phone - the plumber provides the estimate and his visit costs $60, which comes off the final price if you hire them for the job. I urgently needed to get my kitchen sink functioning again and didn't have the luxury of time to call another plumber, so I agreed to the price, but I think their price was more than excessive for the work and time required and I'm upset at myself for having called them in the first place. read more

Goode Plumbing is the whole package. I cut a copper pipe in a ceiling while going nuts with a Sawzall and had water gushing everywhere. I was able to shut the main off at the house and then called Goode. We had a tech out there in less that 90 minutes. We were given multiple repair options after the entire system was inspected. They didn't just come to make the one repair they came to make a proper diagnosis and let me know of any hazards in the system. I don't know anything about plumbing so their service was very comprehensive. read more

We found them on Yelp and they were the first to respond back to my inquiry. We talked on Tuesday to secure a Friday appointment and stayed home all day Friday and they never showed up then. At the end of the day Friday, we called to investigate where they were and they rescheduled us for Saturday morning saying they had a lot of emergencies that somehow took precedent over our existing and confirmed appointment. A plumber and his assistant did show up on Saturday mid-morning but their pricing was higher than other companies had quoted us via email to install new hardware and airgun a clog in our bathroom sink. Because we already waited two days, we had them perform the work. The actual work was fine but not the day we scheduled and definitely higher price (perhaps a weekend premium) than we had been told from another plumber who got back to us mid-week. Overall very positive experience. Drew was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He was wearing a mask when he arrived and he put on shoe covers which I really appreciated. I had multiple plumbing issues to address ranging from small to medium sized repairs. Five weeks apart we had our sewer line rodded, in early December and early January.. We were charged over $600 for the two rot outs done by them five weeks apart without any credit or discount for the second. When we shared the costs we paid with other plumbers they said we were charged almost double the usual charge and that it was made worse by the fact the line had been rodded 5 weeks earlier. The second guy from the rot out told us we were looking at around $8000 to dig out the line in the basement due to a ball of vegetation in the line. Since then others have said the cost named was double the going rate. The second guy said the situation might be related to the corner City sewer work but it would be hard to prove. We no longer trust this outfit. read more

We had Goode come out for an assessment. They told us it would be $300 to fix a running toilet and then they gave us a huge list of fixes we could make it we wanted to take some preventative measures -- it would have easily cost over $5000 to do everything they suggested. But a few of the items seemed sensible, so I got a second opinion. Thank goodness I did! The other plumber fixed the toilet on the spot and wouldn't even charge us for it! He said it just needed a $10 flapper, and he was right. Then he explained why -- even though one of the fixes was a good idea -- it wasn't feasible to do until we had an appliance replaced. He just shook his head over everything else. "Sounds like they're trying to upsell you on everything!" the guy said. The people that Goode sent out were likable and professional, but I just can't trust them after this. read more

Mickey was great - super nice and professional. He was even quiet while our 2.5 year old took a nap. What seemed like an easy fix (replacing a cartridge) turned out to be a bit more complicated after refitting the old parts didn't quite work like it used to. He stuck around for 4 hours to make sure the job got done right and still charged the fee I was quoted. He also wiped down the shower and gave me advice for the next time I attempt a plumbing job myself. Yes, it's not cheap, but he was here in :30 mins on a Sunday and did the job the right way. Would absolutely use again and would request Mickey. read more

I had a mess of water and mold. Called them on Sunday, they came out on Monday, no biggie, I didn't want to pay for emergency services. The $60 fee to come out is irrelevant when you need something done. They stated they wanted to cut into the wall to make sure it was not a foundation issue, the price went up significantly. Ended up finding out it was my water spigot!!! Kind of upsetting that they had to cut into the wall beforehand. But, peace of mind comes at a cost. I was all in at this point and ended up paying quite a bit to repair the issue, Not sure what an average cost would have been. My point of writing all this is to mention that sometimes when you need something done right away, you have to pay for it. They came out, were very friendly and knowledgeable. I wasn't available but my wife kept me in the loop and I was able to speak to the gentlemen that came out. By all accounts the job was completed in a very thorough manner. They even offered up a company that they work with for restoration. I think it's a solid company and they are very flexible and seem to be readily available for $60. I would definitely use this company again. If I have a complaint it's the sales of added services. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Fix the issue at hand then give me a pamphlet with what your company offers. The longer you talk, the more I feel like all you want to do is get more money. I get that it's a business, but some situations are stressful, I know my wife was stressed out about it considering I was not there to help. Maybe take that Into consideration. To end my long review. If you want something done and you need it done right now, don't complain about the cost.
