Hey Guys, I have been eating at Goodonya since you opened. I love your food, it is super tasty! Though your food is tasty, I have been disappointed the last few times I have made a purchase at your restaurant. I ordered a sandwich the other day. It took approximately 30 minutes for me to receive my order. On a busy day, I would understand the wait, but this particular day was slow. When I received my $12 sandwich, it was smaller than a McDonalds $1 hamburger. Though I love the concept of farm to table and organic products (which I realize can be costly), this was criminal! In the days of corrupt politicians, celebrity sex offenders, and hatful dictators, I really hoped I could rely on my local health food restaurant. I feel that Kim Jong Un has made a nuclear threat on my stomach. I enjoy living in Encinitas; it's great to have so many health food restaurants next to the beach. Although it is a nice area, it is difficult to afford rent if in order for me to have a full stomach I need to buy six $12 sandwiches from Goodonya. I love your food, but in order for me to stay full and afford to live in one of the most coveted places in the world, I will have to stop eating at your establishment. Maybe if my $12 mini sandwich came with a side of vegan co-slaw or a nice paleo inspired treat, I would be more keen to continue to buy food at Goodonya. I love supporting local businesses, and I would hate to bring bad vibes to your establishment. I still want to give you a good rating. All your employees are super nice and helpful. Incredible food, well prepared, fresh, tasty, and healthy. The avocado toast is so simple and delicious - even the multi-grain bread is worth having. They serve matcha and it is unsweetened unlike other chain coffee shops. Everybody is friendly and this will be a regular spot when in Encinitas. read more

This place is an absolute gem. Their logo "every ingredient matters" is exactly the perspective other restaurants owners should take, right down to the oil, milk, mayo and smaller ingredients that people don't think about in their food. You cannot compare this shops prices to that of another sandwich or breakfast joint. They are not the same. If you truly care about health and what you put into your body you wouldn't even blink about a $3-$4 increase on your meal. We should be supporting local businesses doing things right. Spend your money on business owners who 1. support other local business and 2. Care enough to provide such an outstanding product to the community. My favorites: protein scramble, tuna sandwich, egg salad sandwich, salted caramel latte (omg!!). High five GoodOnYa!! You've made me a very loyal customer. read more

Goodonya is a sad case of economics driving a place from 4.5 stars to 2. In its former incarnation Goodonya channeled hipster coffee and upmarket vegan localism into an organic "deli" that slung expertly made lattes and sandwiches for a casual crowd of yoga pant and board short-wearing locals. Folks toiled on their computers and the place seemed to suit the needs of locals who needed to crank some work but needed a change of scenery. Not that Goodonya was cheap; a simple lunch for two was always over $30 but the quality was there to justify it and seeing a steady parade of local yogis and surfers made it an Encinitas must see for non-locals as well. Sadly, Goodonya has morphed into a more formal, sit down restaurant that serves dinner. The furniture arrangement is more structured, and, in a move reminiscent of the arcane and officious parking signs on streets in midtown Manhattan, Goodonya has implemented restrictive ordinances posted throughout the restaurant. These relate to weekend and weekday rules about computer use and the number of patrons who must be present at a table during various hours, etc. While this may be ok for when and where you can park your '96 Subaru in Park Slope, it sucks for a supposedly chill cafe in Encinitas. To me, Goodonya now seems like the equivalent of a local surfer with a Mahalo bumper sticker who screams at you when you're lining up in their break. With a more formal approach, the baristas seemed to have lost their touch. On a recent weekday afternoon with almost no one in the place, I had to wait an inordinately long time for an iced Golden Milk with matcha. After ten minutes or so, no one had started on the drink even though there were a few staffers milling around. Finally someone asked another server/barista if the drink was made. The cashier ambled over and said she was making it now. She began to look at instructions--clearly she was not a barista--and said she was making it. It wound up being a bunch of ingredients kind of splashed into a cup and was a disaster. As part of the politburo reorg, the sweetners have been relocated directly in front of the cashier from the side, as if to say "we've got our eye on you." I had to reach across guy who was ordering to get a teeny-tiny scoop of palm sugar. They also have taken away the cocoa and some other stuff--obviously for cost control. Goodonya is probably happy to see the computers find a home across the street at Philz, which seems to be happy to have absorbed the old Goodonya working stiffs. They might be making more money at Goodonya now, but in my opinion, it is a desultory and kind of ridiculous place now. I don't need to spend money where there are prophylactic smack down signs posted everywhere while I drink a crappy $6 latte. read more

Came here on a Saturday night for a few healthy superfood drinks while waiting to go see some friends. I saw they had golden milk and was so excited. This was a awesome blend of tumeric and cinnamon with raw honey. Black pepper to activate the tumeric. It was perfect temperature and and smooth till the last sip. I also tried the female adaptogen shot. Delicious. The server Rachael was super attentive and kind even though I was just grabbing drinks. The music was mellow and all of the servers seemed friendly and in a good mood. I love the whole vibe of this place and the food menu looks awesome! Way to go on the organic Encinitas . A bit sad there was no wifi...but asking people to only use a device at the bar and not a a table left us feeling a bit like it was an eat and get out kind of place which is odd for Encinitas. But now to the good...we had two of the different acai bowls. A lot of food, and substituted more strawberries instead of blueberries for my daughter. SO disappointed. My first time here I paid $8 plus tip for a small cold brew coffee. Yesterday, me and a friend (who also had a bad first time experience), decided to give it another try. We work together right across the street and walked over for our hour lunch break. After the FULL HOUR of waiting for our food we asked if they would wrap it up for us to-go and get it to us as quickly as possible because we had to leave. Our server let the kitchen know and then came back to us saying, "next time you guys are in a rush, let us know so we can get your food out to you more quickly"...??? We were not in a rush at all. We had plenty of time, and there is no way a small salad and a wrap should take a full hour to come out. No more Goodonya for us. read more
