This AYCE sushi spot was definitely worth the try. It had a variety of delectable food options from their tantalizing appetizers to their savory, sweet and spicy sushi rolls. I appreciated the fact that the Nigri had more seafood versus rice ratio. A majority of the food was absolutely delicious, but some items like the ramen and sashimi salad were just okay in my opinion. Very rude costumer service. Came in an hour before closing. We understood they closed very soon and were going to rush to eat to be courteous. We ordered right away and once we received our food, we did not take more than 20 mins to eat. They had already thrown the check at us before we even had any food on the table or had drinks. They were so pushy for us to sign and tip before we could even take a couple bits of our food, The waitress was completely rude and asked for the signature multiple times before I got a half roll in. Really exited to try this place after seeing such about it on social media! We were immediately greeted and sat at a booth & everything tasted great & came out quickly! My husband quickly became addicted to their edamame, and had about 4 bowls of it. I love that most of their rolls have specific details as to what they consist of, so for someone who may not be as familiar with sushi, they can pretty easily navigate the menu; which has a great selection. Now, there were a couple of things we didn't love outside of the wonderful food & service. Those couple of things being: The music felt too loud. It's a relatively small place, and the music was a tad on the loud side for what I prefer in a restaurant setting. It was a little difficult to hold a conversation at the table without feeling like I had to raise my voice at times. The second thing was the table itself. It was so unstable and slippery. The slightest lean or tap of the table left it sliding a couple of inches to and from myself and my husband constantly throughout the meal. It led to a messy table with splashed sauces and drinks a few times. Perhaps we were just at the one table that did that, but it was certainly the most annoying part of the experience as a whole. We will certainly return to try more wonderful menu items, and some favorites from our first visit, and will absolutely bring friends. If we get a table that doesn't slip & slide next time around, I'll likely revise and give it a full 5 star. read more

We were out-of-towners visiting while here for a conference and we wanted food off the strip. Our Uber driver said this place was well liked. There was indeed a nice crowd but we didn't have to wait for a table (except for her to wipe it off and clean under it which took maybe two minutes). The concept is great, being able to eat anything on the menu under their "All You Can Eat" price of $29.95. We tried a few different sushi rolls and a couple of appetizers. The lobster roll was excellent! What I am highly disappointed and annoyed about is this "leftover charge". There is a very SMALL "mention" of a charge for leftovers on the menu - absolutely no mention of what the charge is or how they assess it. Basically they charge you a dollar for EACH PIECE of leftover sushi, which is ridiculous. If you are an AYCE establishment, people will try different items that they may or may not like yet you want to penalize your customers for that. Then, you don't have any information on the menu as to what the charge actually is. So this is why I'm giving this particular rating. If you're going to be an AYCE place, be AYCE - don't place these penalties on your customers. read more

I'm a bit torn about Gorilla Sushi. I heard so many great things about their food, service and their ambiance. I heard they seat you quickly, food is fresh, and nigiri was up there with one of my favorite places in town. We decided to try Gorilla Sushi since one afternoon since we were hungry and their wait time was shorter than our usual spot. We went in with an open mind, and high expectations since they were so highly recommended and highly spoken of, we thought we'd get better food and service. However, we had mixed emotions at the end of our meal, and the only thing I would come back for are the Meloni dessert bars, which are pre-packaged by the restaurant. The nigiri was a hit or miss, it was warm, some of the salmon was decent, but didn't' taste fresh at all. their yellowtail was also, not fresh, and the rice was falling off our nigiri. The busser that was at our section was very aggressive, and rude. She really said, "give me that pile of dishes." I looked at her, and she said, "please". I was shocked and thought that maybe because they were busy she was acting this way. However, it was during our entire dining experience she acted this way so she might have been having a bad day. We had to ask for plates, napkins, refills, etc. They didn't explain or recall the rolls that were brought over, and our server was very busy with other tables so we didn't see her too much. The appetizers they offer are different from your typical sushi place, with corn cheese, takoyaki, tteokbokki, it's really a great variety. I had to try their takoyaki of course, and that wasn't too bad! just a but warm- wasn't fresh which i'm accustomed to. The ambiance in here is loud, so make sure you come to eat and goof around, because it's not an upscale place, it's good for groups and they have a good drink variety option. They do have the option of 1/2 rolls, so if you're new to this place, this is a good location to try, and if you're a regular, I could see why. The variety in rolls, appetizers, and nigiri would bring me back. However, for my taste, and the experience I had, I won't return. read more

This was my first time here after hearing all the rave and trying to come a few times, but was too busy. Finally made it after opening and was greeted and The restaurant itself has an aesthetic interior with wooden booths and sparkly lights adorning the ceiling. The music is fairly loud inside the restaurant and it's pretty cold inside too. I started off with nigiri which had a good fish to rice ratio. I ordered yellowtail, yuzu yellowtail (yummy), salmon, smoked salmon, seared salmon, surf clam, (chewy), octopus, shrimp and eel (tasty). I also ordered miso soup and that was nice to keep myself a bit warmer in the restaurant. The seaweed salad came in a big portion and was good. My boyfriend doesn't eat raw fish so he opted for the Baked Salmon Roll (delicious), Bulgogi Kimbap, Gorilla Dream and Volcano Baked Roll. I also got the Alaska Roll, but there was hardly a fish top so it mainly tasted like a California Roll. I wasn't a huge fan of the rolls or baked rolls besides a few because the ratio of fish to rice was very off. There was so much rice filling you up on top of a lot of imitation crab. I love sushi and I've never felt sick just eating one, but the volcano roll (4 pieces) was abnormally huge. The amount of imitation crabs caked on top of the rolls made me feel queasy. The Bulgogi Kimbap didn't taste fresh as the rice felt a bit hard and the meat with vegetables just didn't have that fresh taste to it. I know it says Trader Joe's Kimbap verified fresh, but I'm not sure how long they've had it refrigerated. The Gorilla Dream was interesting as I've never had Fried Banana as a topping. It was an odd mix but did add a sweetness to it, but I think I could do without because of the texture. Our server was very nice and food came out quickly after ordering. This is a good spot to get the most out of what you pay for only $25 for lunch. UNLV students and staff get a 10% discount and they also had a promotion going on for reach review on here or Google, you get a soda taken off the bill. I'd come back for the nigiri, but not the rolls. read more

I had a friend visiting from Rhode Island for a conference who flew in and was HUNGRY! He wanted sushi for dinner. The first place to enter my mind was Gorilla sushi. It's my kiddos "go to" for the variety and satisfaction factor. It was fairly busy for a Wednesday so we had to decide between a 40 minute wait for a table or a 10 minute wait for a spot at the bar, we opted to sit at the bar. I've never sat at this particular sushi bar, and I'm gonna say it was quite lively, there were several TVs to watch on different channels, including; sports, music videos and the movie Coneheads, but the best part was watching the sushi chefs do their thing. And at the bar, I felt like everything came out lightening fast. Bonus! Brianne was our server and she really did a great job, she was friendly, efficient and had a really good attitude. There were also several other staff that brought out food, I'm not sure if they were "food runners" but they really did a fantastic job getting all that food out to us and all the other patrons. My only "cons" was that I would have liked it if they had tamari available for people trying to reduce their intake of soy and gluten and the restroom could use some TLC. The restaurant has a great, upbeat atmosphere, lots of tables and a pleasant staff. This is the type of restaurant you look forward to returning to. Their AYCE @ dinner was $29.99 which included dessert, we had the Ube Melona and mango mochi. And a seriously large "Gorilla" sized bottle of Negro Modelo will run you $7.95.
