I wish I could rate Gorji Restaurant beyond 5 stars. My experience was absolutely phenomenal. Chef Gorji personally waits on you and delves in detail the specifics of the menu, alongside off-menu features. I chose his featured three-course meal of the evening. I don't want to quote what the dishes were, because I know I wouldn't do it justice trying to describe...but each dish somehow was better than the last. Another aspect I truly loved, is that Chef Gorji prides himself alongside his restaurant in using ingredients that benefit the health of the consumer. Such as, all natural -- no hormone or antibiotic beef. These "small" yet so large details are often overlooked in generic steakhouses. The attention to details as such will make me a returning guest -- not to mention the impeccable service I received from Chef Gorji. Do keep in mind this restaurant is very intimate in size (7 tables), so be mindful of committing to your set reservation. This man is too kind and generous to handle (non-emergency) cancellations-- as he is preparing for your arrival 30 minutes prior, as he was doing for me. I cannot wait for my next visit. I think the 'By Gorji' aspect of the name is very apt for what he tries to accomplish with this restaurant. It really feels like he is personally taking care of you at his home. I don't believe that this place takes walk-ins and is by reservation only. When we originally called for a reservation, we originally left a message, but when he returned our call, it turns out that he uses his personal cell phone. Then during the meal, he had seating times, that way he could help cook every guests meal personally, and then after the dishes were served he could check on the guests and converse with everyone. The food all seems very 'homemade'. Simple flavors, simple presentations. It all feels like stuff that one might easily make at home. This is especially felt in the dishes that use his 'signature sauces' (Sold at Whole Foods[I actually met him personally giving samples of his sauces at the Plano store once{Just a fun side story, which really adds to how personally he is involved in everything}]) That homey feel can be a pro or con depending on what you are hoping for. Very cozy atmosphere can be comforting, but unhelpful if you go to a restaurants for an exciting experience. For the quail dish, we were even given 'finger washing bowls' and encouraged to use our hands. That was fun. The wine list is intriguing. It contains your typical Italian, French & California wines, but then includes wines from places such as Israel, Spain, Morocco & Greece. _________ Conclusion: Gorji really does involve himself personally in each dinner. A cozy atmosphere makes for a very comfortable experience. It is almost like you are eating at his home. AH-mazing... This restaurant has 9 4-tops. Don't let its small setting fool you. The Lilliputian atmosphere allows for very individualized and attentive service. The waiter, the sommelier, and the chef all guided us through our dining experience. The wine was excellent, the food was exquisite, and the service was extraordinary. My wife and I came back here last week because she wanted to try the catfish. I'm not a big catfish fan so opted for the Ribeye Steak. The Ribeye Steak was AWESOME and the best steak I've had and the price was reasonable too! You would be remiss if you came to this restaurant and at least one person at your table did not order the ribeye steak so that everyone could sample the awesomeness. This is a truly special restaurant. My husband and I have had the pleasure of visiting Canary by Gorji four times, and it has now become our go-to restaurant for special occasions and romantic evenings. This restaurant is a small establishment, with a maximum occupancy of maybe 20 people at any given time. It is a dinner-only restaurant, with the decor indicating it is for customers who want an intimate and delicious dining experience. Monsieur Gorji treats his restaurant like his art project. He is present at all times, always touching every customer's meal or experience in some way. Gorji has a very interesting life story and is willing to share it with his customers who are curious about it. His life makes its way into every one of his culinary creations. For example, we dined there last night and one of the dishes had a special ingredient from his wife's hometown. He draws culinary inspiration from multiple cultures in the North, South, and East of the Mediterranean Sea. Somehow, this inventive culinary genius ended up in Dallas, Texas. You must go to Canary by Gorji to experience this! Gorji always has a special menu in addition to the main menu. The special menu usually has 3-, 2- and 1-course prices. The main menu contains some of the best tasting and perfectly cooked steak I've had in the United States. Every dish I have had - whether on the main menu or the special menu for the day - has been nothing short of delightful and memorable, leaving me desiring more! The wine list is also spectacular. It is a short wine list but Gorji has a story for every bottle on the menu. Come here if you are in the Dallas area and looking to treat yourself for an evening. But know that once you discover this restaurant you will want to keep coming back to it. My husband and I have been in the Dallas area for several years now and, while upset we took so long to discover Canary by Gorji, we are also kind of happy because it ain't cheap. But it is so worth it. Last few notes on Canary by Gorji: - This is a no-tip restaurant. Gorji means it when he says no tipping. - I recommend that you subscribe to the mailing list to learn about discounts and specials. - Gorji supposedly hosts a cooking class once in awhile. Attended a wine tasting dinner on Nov 30, 2021, with my husband and another couple. We were all extremely disappointed with the whole experience. The atmosphere in the restaurant was terribly noisy, we could barely hear ourselves talking. However, the food offered was quite disappointing. There was no appetizer offered, only three pieces of meat, two on a piece of hard toast, and the third piece of meat with a few morsels of gnocchi. No salad, no other sides. To say a bit more about the meats, they were terribly undercooked, and when my husband finally asked Gorji if the third piece of meat could be cooked a bit more, he acted somewhat irritated. When the server finally did bring out the third piece of meat, he put the plate with the portions on the table and said, "special order." I guess Gorji doesn't know that not everyone likes RAW meat! The used wine glasses from the previous course were never removed, and at one point, the sommelier poured me a second taste of the Spanish wine in the glass that had had the French wine in it. This shouldn't have happened! And the dinner plates should have been replaced also as it was disgusting to look at the dirty plate from the previous course. And of course, there was no dessert offered. What a terrible "wine tasting dinner" this was...three wines with three chunks of undercooked meat. This was the WORST wine dinner we have ever attended, and I'm so sorry we invited friends to come with us. Definitely NOT worth what we paid. We have no intention of returning to Gorji's restaurant again for any occasion, nor will we recommend this restaurant to any of our friends. Would NOT recommend! read more

Ribeye steak for the win. I'm sure the other entrees are great, I just never bothered trying them since the ribeye gets me every time. They do have specials regularly so don't hesitate to ask. Service is top notch. It could be a little hard to find, but if you're near Kenny's and Sherlock's, you're in the right area. This is not a big place either, so if you're considering bringing a large party (6+), make reservations early in the morning, and Gorgi might consider taking you. We have been to Gorji's before Covid shut everything down and it is definitely our favorite place in Dallas. We were extremely pleased to be able to go again and honored to be his first guests after he reopened. As far as upscale dining goes it is one of the best I have experienced anywhere. The food is always the highest quality and there are always unique offering with the freshest ingredients. This was exactly what we were looking for in ambience and we struck a gold mine! We called the restaurant and left a message we received a return call about 15 min. later and we were in that night! Talk about last minute dinner plans! We were grateful that chef was able to take our reservation. He did not disappoint! We were greeted by Chef Gorji at the door. He seated us and suggested the wine list (this is all he serves to drink besides sparkling water) Now that's a great start! this means there is a very nice wine list. So nice I had trouble deciding on a wine and Chef was happy to help me. My husband and I made different meal choices 3 course meals with desert. Everything came out of the kitchen exactly perfect with no rush between servings. While I waited for my appetizer I took the time to walk around the restaurant to look at Chef Gorji's trophy's ,cook book and line of food products! Lovely dinner, we've been meaning to come for a long time and glad we finally did. As others have said the escargot was unexpected but delicious. I ordered the lamb with tabouli and the hubby had the rib eye. I wanted to love it, the chef is so welcoming and well intentioned. The meat was all done beautifully, but the sides were not very exciting (well, except for the carrots, those were delicious). Also got the flourless cake for dessert, which was good, but very cold. I'm on the fence on whether I would return. While everything was very good, nothing was truly extraordinary, and there are so many amazing restaurants in the area at the same price point. I did, however, feel like I ate a fairly healthy meal. So if the scale reflects that in the morning I would gladly add another star ;) read more

I have had the absolute pleasure of dining at Chef Gorji's restaurant a few times now, and each time has been by far the best experience! The restaurant is very small - only 8 tables or so - so it's not great for large groups. I would suggest making your reservations in advance because they do book up, but it is worth the extra thought in planning (Chef Gorji is the one who returns your call by the way - amazing). The service is impeccable - just the right amount of attentiveness and leaving you to enjoy the food and evening. The food though...oh, the food! It's amazing. Every bite is lovingly crafted and you can tell his passion and excitement from his dishes - escargot with pita bread, the best steak you've ever had, sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, dates and cheese for dessert....just fabulous. I am dining there tonight (it reminded me to make sure I had written a review) and my mouth is watering just thinking about the amazing meal - no, experience - that we are going to enjoy tonight. I was trying to find a new dining experience for our anniversary, and I came across Gorji's in the best 100 restaurants in Dallas list. Great reviews and the description sounded very interesting, so I decided to give it a try. You definitely have to be on the ball to be able to get a reservation. They only accept reservations 6 days in advance and they only serve 7 tables per night. I stayed up until midnight and was able to get our reservation in for a Friday night. The hassle was definitely worth it. There were only two people working there, a server and the owner/chef. They were both very personable and attentive and made sure everything came out perfectly. With only 7 tables, this made it a very personal and intimate experience. They have a very eclectic wine list from exotic locales. The wine we chose from Lebanon was outstanding. The menu is small, but still had a good range of food to choose from. I ordered the venison and my wife had the ribeye steak. I have never had such tender meat in my life, and for a meat that is usually gamy and stringy, that is really saying something. I have never taken a bite of food and stopped to say, "Oh my god, that's good." But when I took a bite of the risotto, that's exactly what I did. The price of the meal was comparable to other high end restaurants like Eddie V's and Capital Grille, but since they don't accept tips, it actually came out to be much less expensive. All in all, a wonderful experience and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. read more

They say that their food is imaginative, It definitely is, but not in a good way. The flavors clash and leave a disgusting taste in your mouth. The escargot literally smelled like a rotting flesh. When we arrived we parked in the designated area and proceed to go in but was immediately met by some person in the parking lot who probably was spying the area. I was extremely embarrassed that this chef or manager would cause attention to us in that wsy. I was even allowed to get in the restaurant. It was rude and disrespectful. If you are looking for best food, great dining and personal touch from the chef - this is THE place. We booked this place for anniversary dinner. Right from the phone call to make the reservation, to personal invitation to the appetizer, main course and the dessert - this is one awesome and amazing place. The personal touch of the chef, the detail explanation behind each menu item and more importantly the great taste, makes this place very unique. Unfortunately we had rush out early as our son was not feeling well. Chef and his team took personal care, packed the food and also handed over a nice bottle of wine. I was really, really looking forward to trying this place. After sorting through all the Restaurant Week steakhouse clones in Dallas, my girlfriend and I chose Canary as a place we definitely had to try. I tried to make a reservation earlier in the week. Gorji, the owner, picked up, and we started trying to negotiate a different day since my original request wasn't available. Okay, no problem, I'm cool with that. What I wasn't okay with was Gorji proceeding to berate me for a few minutes on showing up to my reservation (I guess during RW, many parties haven't been showing up to their reservations). While this is understandably frustrating, that's just what you have to deal with being a restaurant. I've worked in a restaurant before, and customers don't show up to their reservations all the time. All you can do is call them up, ask them if they're still coming, and if not, move on. I understand Canary is a small restaurant, but the bottom line is you do NOT accuse and yell at potential customers. Between his rantings, I tried to calmly reassure him that I was definitely going to be there and honor my reservation time while saying I understand it must be frustrating to have parties just not show up. We finally got to a point where I made the reservation (or so I thought), and that was the end of it. I was a little taken aback by the sudden outpouring of anger indirectly showered upon and at me, but I did kind of feel bad for the guy. I was still looking forward to a great dinner at this point. Fast forward to the day before our reservations. I call in to make sure they accept the Central Market voucher for their 4th course. The phone gets passed to Gorji, who confirms that they do and asks me if I have a reservation. I assure him that I do, and he asks me the time and day. After looking through his books, he says that I do not have a reservation. He says only he is allowed to write in the reservations book, so I definitely don't have one. After pleading my case and reminding him of our conversation earlier in the week, he starts getting angry again and telling me that I was supposed to call HIM back and tell HIM the time was what I wanted. While to me, this is nonsensical and untrue (what kind of place makes ME confirm reservations by calling back?), it didn't really matter in the end. I didn't have reservations according to them, I had gotten yelled at TWICE by the owner, and he didn't indicate he would do anything to try and fix the misunderstanding. It was just, sorry, tough luck, and bye! So all of that leads me to my review. Canary looks like a fantastic restaurant. It certainly stands out in Dallas as something different. Whether it's actually is good or not, I'll never know. Maybe it could be because chefs are known for being control freaks (only he can write in the reservations), egotistical (the restaurant has his name in it!), or easily angered (clearly the case) when it comes to managing their restaurant. Maybe it could be the stress of Restaurant Week getting to Gorji, but in any case, you NEVER treat a customer like I was treated. I was as polite and understanding as can be while getting accused of missing my future reservations, and I STILL got screwed over. In the end, Canary may be fantastic, the food might be great, and the service might be impeccable, but I don't think I'll ever try to make it here again. It was Saturday around 730PM when we walked into Canary. We were greeted and asked if we had a reservation. See, the images online lead you to believe that Canary is a decent sized restaurant -- a Texas sized restaurant. Alas, those pictures are misleading. If this restaurant can hold 40 patrons, it's stretching to max capacity! Luckily for us, they had a 6 top available. (Note to self -- always make reservations in the future.) We were asked what we'd like to drink and given our menus. Ratings: Food: Palate Cleanser first -- Pomegranate Carrot Shot (A+) This small shot of delicious carrot juice with pomegranate seeds is wonderfully refreshing. The bursts of pomegranate are simply lovely. This is a perfect cleanser to get your palate ready for a decadent meal. Bread second -- The bread is grilled to perfection and served with some Parmesan and butter. We asked for seconds and thirds -- it is great to use for any excess sauce from your subsequent courses. Appetizers third -- Mediterranean Mezze (A-) The tzatziki isn't the best I've ever had, but the golden raisins do the trick! It's delicious with the pita chips provided. The tabbouleh is wonderful. It has just enough zest to it. The hummus is excellent, as well. It is creamy and flavorful, but I wish the portion was bigger. The dolmades are the best I've ever had -- and that's saying something. I've had homemade Grandmother's long-time family recipe dolmades at a friends house while growing up. I never thought anything was going to top them. Then, I went to a well-known Greek restaurant in Frankfurt. I know -- Germany and Greek food? But, they melted in your mouth...just as they burst with flavor. Legendary. Well, these were better. I'd fight Colosseum-style to get a couple more of these! Baked Eggplant (A) Most eggplant is butchered. Let's be honest. Eggplant gets a bad rep because people don't know how to cook it. They make it tough or mealy, bitter. Well, not Chef Gorji. The eggplant was flavorful and tender. The tomatoes were sweet and well-cooked. He used a deliciously soft whole-milk mozzarella that was divine. And to top it all off, a couple piece of toasted Barbari flat bread with the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Roasted Garlic (A) I hear from a lot of people that they are hesitant to eat roasted garlic, especially when on a date. I wasn't on a date -- but even if I was, this garlic is worth it! It's roasted to perfection. The garlic is so sweet and tender, that it makes eating it far too easy. Before you know it, all your garlic is gone! I taught my table how to make the most of your garlic in order to get to hidden pieces. This dish came with a creamy Bulgarian feta that I'd never tried before. Stronger than normal feta -- better, I would say, too! Entree next -- Texas Bonsmara Ribeye (A+) I'm not a huge red meat fan. That being said, I have blood iron issues. When I crave red meat, which happens about once a year, I know it's time for a steak. I ordered this grass fed, all natural/no antibiotics steak medium rare. It's 14oz, btw. When it arrived to the table, it seemed much bigger than 14oz. I cut into the steak and the somewhat dull steak knife cut through the steak like butter. And that's what the steak was like while eating it. It melted in your mouth. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned. It was the best steak I've ever had. Gnocchi Gorgonzola (A-) The steak comes with Gorgonzola garlic mashed potatoes, but I wanted pomegranate gnocchi, so I ordered that instead for a small upcharge. They accidentally brought me this one -- which they rectified automatically (they told me as they brought the plate out -- I didn't have to tell them). So, two gnocchis! It was delicious. The gnocchi themselves were cooked to perfection. Little pillows! The Gorgonzola was divine, but slightly overwhelming to my palate. The steak was served over the gnocchi. I wonder how my steaks flavor would've changed with my proper gnocchi. Gnocchi Pomegranate Crème (A+) This dish was heaven. If I can only eat one thing for the rest of my life - it will be this gnocchi. I've never tried a sweet gnocchi before, but this has turned me into a fan. Words cannot express how happy this dish made me. You smile while you're eating it. It is a culinarians holy grail. This is the food to wait your entire life to find. Please try it - it will change your culinary life. Fried Polenta (A-) The fried polenta normally only comes with the veal, but I had to order some anyway. It's a bit oily, but the flavor and consistency are both perfect. The portion is generous, as well. Dessert last - Vanilla Ice Cream with Pistachios (B-) This is the only place that Chef Gorji falters. This dessert was good, but it wasn't great. I'd love to see a fine dining version of baklava or rose-infused rice pudding. Location (B) It's hidden! Service (A+) Always went above and beyond! I am very picky when it comes to fine dining. Three stars is probably considered low to some but to me it means it was good maybe just not my style. Atmosphere: Decor is simplistic but not chic...something is missing to make it feel special. It didn't give the romantic quaint vibe I was hoping for. It kinda feels thrown together by a novice not an interior designer. Service: Really good but not jaw dropping stellar. I never wanted for anything however it lacked flair. The flair comes from Gorji when he comes out of the kitchen to talk with his guests. I think this might be by design. Seating: Better call ahead for a reservation or you might not get seated. I appears Gorji has a system where he only takes a certain number of guests per night because the night I was there, the restaurant was never full but people were turned away. However, this did add to a nice ambiance because the small room was never too full and never too loud. Food: Definitely special but I wasn't wowed. I ordered the chef special steak medallions with gnocchi. I am a steak snob but the meat was good and tender. The sauce was pretty darn amazing. It was the first time I had gnocchi and I didn't like it but that has nothing to do with the quality. I don't know what it is supposed to taste like but I just didn't like the texture. Next time, I would ask him to prepare a different side. The grilled veggie were perfect. I enjoyed the salad a lot. Table bread was perfectly toasted and served with olive oil infused with pepper and lemon...again, my taste buds were not impressed but it was A+ original and awesome presentation. Dessert: OMG! AWESOME chocolate cake that is Gorji's recipe made by a local baker. Prices: very reasonable for the style of restaurant and that Gorji prepares everything himself. He grills all sorts of meats like nobody else, all fantastic. I had a "turkey chop" there for Thanksgiving. You'd swear it was a steak. Be sure to try his pomegranate-champagne cocktail as a before-dinner drink. Chef Gorji hand-selects all his wines. Every single one of them is absolutely delicious. He even bottles and sells his sauces and condiments, so you can take some of his magic home with you to jazz-up your own dishes. Mrs. Bear always has a sack of jars of yummy stuff in her paws when we leave for home. Highly recommended take-homes are the Pomodoro sauce, the Steak Primer (pomegranate-olive oil meat marinade), the Pomegranate Champagne Vinaigrette, and the Spicy Remoulade. Chef Gorji also conducts cooking classes weekdays, but we haven't been able to attend any yet. Last, but not least, is a mention of the outstanding service at Canary. Just like dining on a premier cruise: very attentive without being interruptive, keeping your water/wine glass filled, sweeping the crumbs off the table, and making sure you're delighted with what you ordered. They also don't take forever to get your bill to you, like some other places I could mention. In summary, this place is truly as good as it gets. If I could afford it, I'd be there every night. Service is great, the wine selection is good, and the food was tasty.......except...for.....THE SALT. I was really looking forward the the ribeye that everyone raves about. Keep in mind, I've had prime ribeyes at alot of good restaurants such as Pappas Bros, SW Steakhouse in Vegas, Sullivans, Del Friscos, Jaspers, etc so I know what a good ribeye tastes like. The first 3 bites were outstanding! I was also happy that, temperature wise, the steak came out very hot ensuring the steak would not get luke-warm before the end of the meal. So, thumbs up for that. Unfortunately, after the 3rd bite the steak was too salty. I couldn't taste anything but salt which overpowered the other flavors like the pomegranate and even the creaminess of the pomegranate gnocchi. I'd like to give it another chance, but for 175$ total, I don't see that happening in the near future. Over-salting food is cooking 101. Big let down. read more

** Hidden Gem ** Hands down one of the best, if not THE BEST fine dining experience in Dallas/Addison. If you are a foodie and have not had the pleasure of dining at Canary by Chef Gorji then you are truly missing out on an exceptional dining experience. Chef Gorji is a wonderful breath of fresh air for the Dallas culinary scene. He uses a simple yet abundantly flavorful cooking technique that created a party in my mouth and left me anxiously awaiting the next course. After being completely blown away by a fantastic three course meal, I could only scratch my head and wonder why I had not heard of him or his amazing restaurant. For example, Trip advisor lists Canary as the only 5 star reviewed restaurant and it is listed as #192. I know you're asking, "Who in the hell uses trip advisor to find a great culinary experience?". This is just an example of a great chef being overshadowed by many of Dallas corporate restaurants. Chef Gorji is swinging for the fences with his sophisticated, sexy approach to cooking delicious food and has definitely hit a home run! Thank you to my new favorite restaurant, Canary by Chef Gorji. I came in for a tasting event sponsored by Artizone. Gorji is a vendor of Artizone so he decided to show us some of his new sauces. We had some pita bread with his spicy arrabbiata sauce. This sauce was my absolute favorite. Then we tried a ravioli with a pomodoro which was also so good! Then he had us try a Bloody Mary with the arrabbiata sauce in it which sounds crazy but it was absolutely delicious. I'll definitely need to come by again to get my fix of that sauce! read more

Thank you Chef!! You sent me a great birthday present, one free entree. We came here based on Niki W.s recommendation, man, were we glad we did!!! My wife had the Squid ink gnocchi, it was sooo good. I had the Steak. Gouda mashed taters. So good, in fact I'd say my wife's meal was better than mine (just by a hair), but I'd say she devoured my mac and cheese. Chef Gorji came out to make sure our meal was to our liking, and that was a very nice touch. Gorji, I tell you what... you can cook for me anytime... heck, it's about time to go back there! * Pros: Exceedingly fresh and flavorful; the best steak I've ever had at a reasonable price; perfect service * Cons: I didn't learn about this place sooner; my own stupidity for not ordering the ribeye; more mashed potatoes please! Admittedly the majority of my Yelps are self absorbed, first-person accounts of my personal experience at a restaurant rather than providing a detailed description of the cuisine. However, I'll suspend my egocentrism for a few moments while describing the flavor explosion that is Canary's. I'd never heard of the joint. It is tucked away in the back corner of the village area on Belt Line and the Tollway, surrounded by brunch joints and yeah, freakin' Sherlocks. It's a small, 10 table restaurant that was far from busy on a Tuesday night so I was initially nervous. We were greeted with an extensive wine list, a fairly comprehensive dinner menu consisting of steaks, seafood meals, and prix fixe offering consisting of some unusual food combinations that sounded less than appealing. I ordered a wedge salad and butter seared shrimp. The wedge salad arrived quickly. It consisted of a slice of iceberg lettuce, spread evenly with gorgonzola dressing (which is way better than bleu cheese), and a thin slice of prosciutto with grilled jalapenos. I normally chuckle at restaurants that have the "lettuce wedge" with a hunk of iceberg drenched in ranch. This wedge was no laughing matter. Extremely flavorful. I took the shot of champagne and cranberry juice provided as a palette cleanser prior to feasting on the incredibly fresh shrimp and gnocchi that arrived after the salad. It was some of the best shrimp I've ever had, and I consider myself a connoisseur, or at least a dude that digs shrimp. My mistake? My friend Nik and my date, Miss L, both opted for the ribeye. Luckily they were too full to finish their masterpiece of a 14 oz slab drenched in pomegranate and butter. Pomegranate? On a steak? This was the reason I shied away from it initially. Huge error. This was absolutely the best steak I've ever had. Melt-in-your-mouth, slightly crispy, and at a price comparable to any other restaurant I've visited/frequented. Oh, and when I mention everything was fresh? Get this. In the midst of preparing our meals, the chef (Gorji) left the kitchen, walked out of the restaurant, and returned with fresh herbs planted outside of the restaurant. Yeah, fresh. Sound good?
