these past few weeks, i've been consistently ordering from gotcha tea whenever my sweet treat cravings need to be fulfilled. the staff have maintained efficient and friendly customer service, as well as the tastiness of their drinks. in my opinion, the matcha drink items are delicious. i've tried the matcha einspanner, strawberry matcha, and the plain matcha (with an additional topping of cheese foam). it's not too sweet, nor too bitter. they're also willing to accommodate whatever preferences you have, such as adding more sugar or ice, or decreasing the sugar or ice levels. i usually order with regular sugar and less ice. as for the other drinks i've tried, such as the strawberry yogurt, purple rice yogurt, paris milk tea, and the thai tea, well.. they all tasted great!! not too sweet, but still addictive to drink. my personal favorites are the strawberry yogurt (light and non-artificial tasting), the paris milk tea (containing an eggnog-like topping and oreos), and the matcha strawberry!! i would definitely recommend trying this place. it's a cute hangout spot, with tasty drinks and great staff!! i'll definitely be taking my friends here in the future!! :) additional notes: whoever's in charger of the playlist has great taste.. old bts is so peak!! read more

This was SOOO GOOD!! Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures because it was SOO tasty that we drank it immediately! The cashier was super helpful in recommending their most popular drink options. The place is super cute with a few well-stocked vending machines, the flowers were a lovely touch. I got the matcha einspanner and my friend got the Thai mikk tea which were both the perfect amount of sweetness after an amazing lunch at the Vietnamese place right next door. Gotcha Tea is a Bubble Tea Cafe located on Kearny Villa Road in San Diego. According to their website, they are known for farming their own tea. Gotcha Fresh Tea is farmed and picked from a single tea plantation in Mount Ali, Taiwan. At the time of this review, there are 5 locations in Southern California area. They use REAL MILK here, so I'm out of luck on at least half the menu (since I am lactose intolerant). I've tried their Thai Tea with Boba. One of my friend's daughter really likes their Black Sugar Boba with Fresh Milk (also has DOUBLE Boba). Tip - if you go in the evening, sometimes they run out of boba!! ENJOY!! read more

Seriously, this place is my favorite go-to boba place in San Diego! It takes a awhile for them to make your order, but its because the tea is made fresh when you order. My top two drinks that I get are the taro milk tea and the jasmine green milk tea. Their boba is made with brown sugar and it is THE BEST boba I've ever eaten (and i'm not actually a fan of boba). It's the perfect texture and the the perfect amount of sweet. The taro is freshly made and you actually get chunks of it in your drink (and trust me- it's not from a can). Ordered 2 drinks and waited over 30 minutes. I asked for no ice in one drink and they made it with ton of ice. When I brought it to their attention they said "oh yea forgot" and literally scooped out the ice out of my drink, even though I had sea cream on top. The second drink I ordered was a blended taro with Oreo and boba. There was no boba in the drink and again I had to bring it back and tell them. They took the drink and dumped some boba on top and resealed it. Now the boba sits on top of the drink instead of the bottom and I cannot enjoy it. They didn't apologize, they didn't care. The cashier looked miserable like she didn't want to be there. Poor customer service, and messed up both of my drinks. I do NOT recommend this place for the terrible experience! read more

Visited on Dec 16. The drinks itself was really good! Flavor was good and majority of the drinks ordered by our group was given a good feedback. The boba itself was too soft and sticky for my preference. It would get stuck in the straw from being stuck to each other and the boba was super warm. The ambience of the store seemed a little bit dated and dark, but then I realized it was because the lights in the store wasn't turned on due to the fact that someone (an employee or a relative of employee) was laying down sleeping in one of the couch chairs. When we were ordering, the worker taking our order and making our drinks was not friendly at all. She would give off an attitude and would tell us to wait because she is currently making 2 drinks. (We never once rushed her). After we ordered, the drinks took some time to come out, our group had a total of 6 drinks. A few minutes after we ordered, there was a Uber eats or door dash driver who came to pick up his order. When he entered, the worker basically asked him why he was here and she had said that she would need 20 mins. He went out and when he came back in, she was still making our drinks and she pointed at us and told him "see?! They have 9 drinks in total!" Though we had 6. We ordered one macaron and I can't say how it tasted since my daughter ate it but it was a cute Totoro macaron, with a broken poked in eye. Came in for some Thai tea early Monday morning. What's really cool is that this place was the o ly boba shop open. It must have been around 10am. I was greeted when I walked in. That was cool. I got the strawberry matcha and honestly it was really good! However I don't think it's worth the 40 minute wait. It wasn't even busy when I ordered but 15 minutes later, it did get busy... yet no urgency and my friends and I were still waiting for our drinks. At some point there were 3 people behind bar who didn't do anything for like 5-10 minutes. Place is cute tho and there's things you can do if you want to wait 40 minutes for one drink. There was no sense of urgency with the staff, and no one acknowledged the wait. I've been wanting to try this place out because it's right next to a delicious pho spot - and I'm happy I finally did! I ordered the drink using their online system which is super easy. I got the signature milk tea (80% sugar, easy ice) with boba. Because I got easy ice, the drink was a bit lukewarm but I just had to give it a few minutes and stir it around. I liked the strong tea taste and the boba was a good texture. The cup is very cute but it's heartshaped so it doesn't fit properly into a cup holder and slides around a bit. This place is a hidden gem in Kearny Mesa! I tried the Strawberry Banana smoothie with Boba and the Milk Tea with Boba. Booth drinks were flavorful and sweet. I reduced the sugar in the milk tea. The highlight was the perfectly cooked Boba, it had the perfect QQ-ness for me. The Boba was warm but not overcooked, soft, and firm at the same time. I love the interior design of this place. It's welcoming, cozy, and clean. There were only two workers when I came in. Both of them were super respectful and made our drinks in a timely manner. I got the charcoal milk tea thinking it would taste like black sesame but it was better than I expected! It has a tarty, sweet taste, almost like a sweet potato. I got this drink in 50% sweet and 50% ice and it was still a little too sweet for my liking, but my boyfriend thought it was perfect. The boba is SUPER fresh and soft. You can actually feel the warmth of the boba when you shake your drink. For the charcoal milk tea, I recommend not getting 50% ice though!
