Our daughter found a groupon for this place, so we decided to give it a try. We were going to be in town for a few days and this place was highly rated. So the bring the chips and salsa, plus samples of their other sauces they use on their main dishes. The sauces run spicy. But very good. The menu didn't look like anything unusual. Typical dishes. I ordered albondigas and a chimi with green chili sauce (moderately spicy based on the samples they gave us). The chimi came with rice and beans. Usually I request the beans be substituted for more rice, but I forgot this time. So it shows up. The albondigas looked typical, but were really good. The seasoning is the key, and whatever mamasita did in the kitchen was great. Then the chimi showed up. The beans looks ordinary, but again the seasoning is key. These were not just a blob of brown flavorless yuck. They were very flavorful, very nice. The rice also was seasoned differently than I'm used to, and was really good. The chimi was probably the most ordinary item. The flavor didn't really stand out as unique, but it was as good as any others I have had. If I can come back I will try something different. I use the chimi as a standard candle for comparison to other places, and this was as good as any of them. And I won't substitute the beans either. Service was outstanding. Drove 20 miles north to visit Goyita's New Mexican cuisine after hearing from a few AZ/New Mexico border friends how good it was. We were really looking forward to having a great meal and I was eager to taste some home cooking food that I would be able to find a taste like home as I remember as a child. Red Chile was good, nice and hot as that's what New Mexican cuisine is all about. Margarita was awesome and bar tender was great. Dessert sopapillas were delicious tasty and large serving with honey to serve ourselves. Refried beans ok, kind of lumpy, rice ok, beef taco not so good. Ground beef had weird taste and a big slice of tomato stuffed inside taco shell. Chips and salsa good, coffee tasted like it had been there all day. Service not too good. Asked for lemon with my water never got, asked for napkins 3 times and bartender finally brought instead of server. We were in Tucson and looking for some authentic New Mexican cuisine finished with sopapillas... we found this place and made the drive. It didn't disappoint! The enchiladas were to die for. The sauce was clean and spicy and hit the spot! Portion sizes were just right- not too big. They were also very sweet to our toddler- as an aside, their booster seats are by far the coolest we have used (and we have used a lot!). The sopapillas were warm, crispy, and soft inside. Terrible experience at Goyita's. Came on a Friday night and stood at the entrance, waited a while for the hostess to approach. I understand it's a Friday night, they are busy so we patiently waited. Then we were seated and waited again. We waved over the hostess. The hostess apologized and went to find the server. Then we waited and waited, finally the server came over and started complaining to us about how the computer was down and people couldn't leave because she couldn't get them their check. And they were upset with her but there's nothing she can do. Very frantic and stressful. We asked for a draft beer (a hazy IPA) and 2 waters. Again we waited.... Then she brought the beer and asked if we wanted straws (for beer?????). I asked for water again. After she left, I looked at the beer which is supposed to be a yellow color. The beer was a dark amber. Then we waited for her to come back. Finally she came back, no waters, and I told her she brought the wrong beer. She said, "no, that's the right beer". I showed her on my phone a picture of what the correct beer should look like (hazy IPA), and then she said, "well, I guess they ran out of that one." Shredded beef taco was good, the Chile rellano was very tasty, and a very flavorful red chili cheese enchilada. A nice selection of beers on draft and in bottles. A couple New Mexican beers and wines as well. The soppapias were awesome. If you have spent any time living in New Mexico and are longing for NM style food then this may be the place for you. Took over 20 minutes to get a margarita - never got a second one 2. Never got a refill of chips, salsa or water - the whole night *ordered a 2nd guacamole repeatedly and it never came! 3. Took over 1hour 23 minutes to get 6 plates of food while everyone else in the place got theirs 4. Food was so cold that the cheese in the enchiladas were solidified. Taco meat was greased together and made the wait even more frustrating 5. When we told of our displeasure the short dark haired lady got an attitude with us and got pissy and our waitress could had cared a less! Absolutely amazing. Some of the best New Mexican I've had not only outside of the 505 but even from within its borders. The only thing they're missing is blue corn tortillas. Flat chicken enchiladas with an egg or two on top with Christmas Chile (the chile verde con carne for me) and have a mouth full of delight. Enjoy the conversation about southern NM, specifically around Silver, that is if you know NM, or perhaps just learn a bit about where you haven't been. But without doubt enjoy the food. As a native New Mexican, I was excited to try a local eatery that will serve as my home away from home. Based on the reviews, I had high expectations and couldn't wait to drive the 25 minutes just to eat at this restaurant. My first impression was the decor reminded me of local eateries back in Albuquerque. My initial thought was "so far everything is good." It wasn't until I ate the chips and salsa where doubts started settling in. The salsa could use some work. Too much tomato and not enough heat/flavor. Then our sever took my order of chicken enchiladas and a side of sopapillas. I wanted Christmas style (red and green chile) on the enchiladas. Everything was as expected until he told me the red is hot and green is mild. This restaurant lost all New Mexico credibility after. Every New Mexican knows green is hotter than red, especially if Hatch green chile is claimed. I should have left after that obvious sign but I wanted to support a New Mexican owned restaurant. When my food came out, I was skeptical. My first initial bite of the red chile was it was good, some flavor, and nice heat. Then I tried the green side. A little piece of my New Mexican heart broke. There was no heat, no flavor, and absolutely dull. Don't get me started on the sopapillas either. It should be called a fry bread (and that's generous because I wouldn't call it that either) because it was flat and dense. Nothing like the pillowy, sweet goodness back home. My sister ordered a stuffed sopapilla and that was another disaster. To call this a New Mexico style restaurant is an insult to my home state. I'm usually not a big fan of Mexican food, so when I say that I really enjoyed this meal, that's saying quite a lot about this restaurant. The service was a little slow to get started and the waitress forgot to bring us menus, but everything got better from there. First, the water and the ice were filtered and tasted great. I usually only see this in much more expensive restaurants. The corn chips were warm and the salsa was flavorful and balanced. We also ordered guacamole. It was very fresh with a hint of heat. My wife raved about the chili con carne, which was meaty and spicy. My son loved his hamburger and fries. In fact, the fries were outstanding! Our friend who is gluten-free got the enchiladas, which were spicy hot. Finally, I'm wheat-free and I got the shredded beef gorditas. I've never seen these before and they were excellent, especially after I added some salsa. For those who don't like spicy food, the gorditas were not at all spicy. This place was alright. Upon dashing in after being caught in a downpour, we were told it would be a few minutes for a table and sat down at the bar. The place was a little busy, but a few tables had just left, and it seemed they needed to catch up. The bartender was really nice but needed a few minutes to take our order, which wasn't a problem. We checked out the menu while we waited. We had drinks in hand so it wasn't a problem, but it took a while for our server to get to us. He was very friendly but seemed busy and forgot our friend's request of green sauce on the side of his meal. He was good about bringing chips and salsa, as requested, but everything seemed to take a little longer than it should have based on how busy it was. Maybe they were down a server? The food was decent. I got the taco grande with shredded beef. My boyfriend got a combo with red sauce on it, and it had quite the kick, so beware! Overall, staff is friendly but slow. We stopped by the new Green Valley store for a late lunch/early dinner 1/26/24. I know this location has only been open a few weeks but I honestly don't see how they will stay open very long unless major changes take place. We've been waiting for the opening for months and we're excited they finally opened. Whoever made decisions on the remodeling appears to have wanted a sports bar atmosphere which doesn't work for a restaurant, especially one that does not serve alcohol. I get it that the alcohol license hasn't been issued but a sign should have been posted near the entry (with all of the other handmade signs on the door) to alert customers before they get seated that alcohol is not yet available. We ordered guacamole ($10+) and were told it was plenty for the 3 of us. It was just mashed avocado with no flavor and the amount was enough to garnish a few tacos. The salsa also had no flavor. We had two orders of ground beef tacos and one small combo plate. I tasted the green and red enchilada sauce to make sure they were not too spicy at the request of our server. Both were warm but had no flavor. I asked for both sauces. None of our food had any flavor except for the refried beans and they were pretty salty. The lack of seasoning of any kind (none available on the side to season yourself, including cilantro and other southwest seasonings) should be addressed. The sauces I sampled were not hot at all on the food. Our total bill was around $90 for three people and no alcohol. We told the server our concerns and she simply said "sorry " and walked away.
