[[HIGHLIGHT]]For the opera lovers, this is a perfect spot for a fine dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant is open for dining around performances at the Met Opera and used to be available only to ticket holders but now is open to the public for pre-theatre dining with reservations . [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their elegant dining room with spectacular chandeliers & original master pieces by Chagall with the impressive and friendly service and great wine/champagne selection; it has been our preferred dining spot for years before the opera & during intermission.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]For a special date night , it's fun to dress up to enjoy a romantic dining experience over the Ocietra caviars and champagne to start off your special evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Try it !

Overall, Grand Tier provides an elevated experience to a night at the Opera with fine dinning in the Metropolitan Opera House in addition to options for dessert and drinks during intermission, however, personally I would only eat here if accompanied by a show at the Met. I write this review after my second visit to the restaurant. Both experiences I thought the service was good as the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Also it's an incredible ambiance with the backdrop of The opera house and views of Lincoln Center from the window. I did however, enjoy the food much more the second time around, which helped get this review to a four star. Also, they have a decent prefix menu where you can have appetizer, entree and dessert for $102. I did enjoy the Bison Carpaccio and scallop starters in addition to the beef tenderloin and Venison. The dessert fell flat to me and the cocktails although mixed very well were fine at best. Overall, this restaurant is elevated with the full show experience, however as a stand alone experience it was decent, but not memorable.

Fine dining par excellence and a must to get the full opera experience! Service is impeccable, ambience is superb, and the food a masterclass in how to combine flavor, texture and visual appeal to the finest. Absolute highlights were the charred octopus, bison carpaccio, salmon filet and blue crab eggs Benedict. The Lobster Thermidor was a bit light on actual lobster, but tasted fantastic. If your opera has an intermission, you can ask for dessert to be served then, which Is highly recommend to do. Don't forget to admire the Chagall's up close if you're there at night time. They are covered during the day for protection.

"I have lived for art, I have lived for love"...as a coloratura, I never embodied Tosca, but I truly live by these sentiments. Here you can experience culinary nirvana! Making it's home in the timeless magnificence that is the Metropolitan Opera, grand tier restaurant is the stuff of dreams. As you sit and contemplate the theatrical wonders that lay ahead of you, you can sit with your sweetheart surrounded by opulence and enjoy a luxurious meal. Yet that's not all...you can pre order your desserts and tea to enjoy at intermission, all lovingly laid out at your table-beautifully set out and waiting for you! It is a lovely way of stretching out your evening experiences. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon or evening with those you cherish. The hubby and I are enthusiastic patrons of the Met opera, since I attended school at New England conservatory with many of the performers in my grad school youth. We fall in love again and again, most recently last weekend on our anniversary. It's a wholly transformative experience here. We will most definitely be back often. Thank you dear MET/Grand Tier for keeping passion and love alive in the world. "Opera is for a lifetime, not just a minute" -Kiri TeKanawa

Great service, well cooked and delicious food (just a tad under flavor, or maybe I like meals more flavorful), and [[HIGHLIGHT]]definitely lovely view[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Yes, it's very pricey but you pay for convenience. I also appreciated that my table was saved so I can go back for dessert during intermission. I enjoyed it, no complaints.

Carpaccio, octopus, venison and steak were really good. The berries were underwhelming. Berries and whip cream and that's that. The martini was ok they use Tito's and it was a bit too salty and cost $27. Meh. The opera cake is always a hit. The beauty is in the space. We just loved it. The pre theater dinner service was great. I loved being the only ones in the building. It was so convenient as well.

Exquisite service (Patrick our waiter was SUPERB). Cuisine magnificent. Best way to enjoy opera: dinner before curtain call and dessert during intermission. Bison Carpaccio was unbelievable. Wine pairing highly suggested. Smoked salmon A1. Beef tenderloin delicious. Friendly and attentive staff. Ambiance thumbs up.

Last minute I've decided to go to the ballet to see Romeo & Juliette. It's the end of the season so let's hit it! I call the GT at 5:55 PM, and ask if they can seat me ? Of course! I'll be right over! This people, as I have commented before, is the apex of civilization. THE restaurant that epitomizes classic New York My favorite waiter Jason, comes right over and greets me as an old friend. It's delightful to be here under the Chagalls. The restaurant is not crowded. This unfortunately may be a sign of the times. COVID spike and economic malaise? I don't see any familiar faces in the assembled quests Ah how I miss the not so old days. It gives me a chance to inquire as to where Jason comes from in Puerto Rico and about his family. I start with a half bottle of Taittinger champagne, oh gosh! Amazing Then a bowl of gazpacho soup. Room temperature with half an avocado! Just delicious I've ordered, decadently, the fillet mignon, medium rare. Ok so shoot me! The steak is just out of this world. Made to perfection, the sauce is absolutely from another planet with morel mushrooms. I haven't had anything like this in A LONG TIME. Jason knows exactly what I'll have for dessert. Vanilla ice cream and espresso! Well folks the season is ending but the memories endure....

The restaurant is at the grand tier level which is leave 4 or 5 if you take the elevator from the orchestra level. It's very convenient if you want to enjoy a romantic meal when you go to a opera date, or for ladies night, business hang out etc. you can also split your prefix meal before the opera and intermission. Based on the restaurant manager, the last seated is usually 1.5 hours before the opera. If you have an opera at 7pm, you should make a reservation at 5:30pm or not later than 5:45pm. The prefix menu is $85 per person and include an appetizer, a main course and a dessert. They allow you to have first or two courses before the opera and come back to enjoy the rest during the intermission. I made the reservation online and tried to book the prefix dinner menu. Since i need to work late, i can't be there at 5:30pm. So i got ourselves a reservation for intermission dessert. The restaurant manager is very nice. He returned my call and sent me a intermission menu. I selected the items i want and responded through email. We got a regular coffee, a chamomile tea, a cookies and petit four, and a lemon sponge cake. When we were on the break of first intermission, we took the elevator to the grand tier level. I checked in with my name and the waiter took us to our table. It's next to the window and you can see the fountain. It's so beautiful and romantic. Food is ready and our tea and coffee are still hot. They really took good care of everything. Cookies are very good especially the chocolate. I will order this again. My lemon cake was a bit too sweet for me. (I think it's regular American dessert sweetness. But i usually prefer Asian dessert sweetness level. My american friend said it's good. So if you are ok with regular dessert you will like it.) the cake tops with some grape fruit. The sourness of the grapefruit paired with the sweetness of the lemon cake, it turned out very well. Tea and coffee came in pot which is great. You got about 3-4 small cups. The intermission is 30 mins last night. The restaurant was full. Some people were having their salad, some were having drinks or desserts. The restaurant is very nice and i highly recommended this place. It's great experience no matter if you are an opera fan or not. It used to only open to people who are opera ticket holders. Now it's open to public. You can dine in here even if you are not here to watch the opera (they understand not everyone likes 3-4 hours opera.) Food (1-5) i would say 3 stars. Environment 5: the table setting, the shining chandelier, it makes you feel like you are at the fancy restaurants especially when most people around you are dressed up . (They dressed up for the opera, not the meal) Cost: $$$ prefix menu is $85. dessert and drink are affordable. If you dont want a full set of prefix, just get the intermission dessert or light snacks. Service: 4 I would like to come back again for a full dinner or brunch experience. Especially if you can get the table near the window.

Again. Always a sybaritic experience dining under the Chagall murals and Swarovski Crystal chandeliers on the Grand Tier level of the Metropolitan Opera House. Thursday night, May 18 was no exception. General manager George Krpeyan, servers Jerry and Raul, and menu fare were as impressive as the last performance of Aida for this season. No matter how many times I'm here ... the feeling is the same as it was for my first experience. 5 Star excellence. Never disappoints.

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? Within a few minutes the main dining room was ready for us and we were led to a three quarter moon seat with a table facing the MOMA outdoor sculpture garden. This room was glorious with its high ceiling and cobalt blue paint and an impressive massive floral arrangements. There were plenty of museum visitors still outside wandering about in the sculpture garden. Each and every staff were wonderful in their friendly welcoming stance and conversations. Most of the time, restaurant tasting menus have words and phrases that "sound" so inviting but wind up being a huge disappointment. However, words here really don't do justice as a description. The menu seemed simple and basic enough: "radish, shiso* crispy ham and cheese; hiramasa and garden peas; sea bass, crab and squash blossom; halibut, tomatoes, sweet corn broth or chicken and red wine braised celeriac; berries and cacao -- Impressions Menu -- 'a glimpse, capturing a moment' $175 (discovery 115 * reserve 295)". Prior to ordering we were informed that both of us had to order the same menu but that we had the option to sub and add on from the expansive menu--which we did with the eggs on eggs on eggs dish, as well as my choice of the lamb. Their signature dish--Eggs on eggs on eggs: a must have to add on this special course with caviar ($50/order). The dish is small, precious and very rich and was positively impressionable. That's the dish I go away with thinking about the restaurant. It came with a stick of toasted brioche to sop up the runny yolk and the caviar (which was neither fishy or salty). I would note the dish was served with caviar spoon. Staff knew enough that after we started eating this they brought an extra set of two more buttered toast sticks. Paired with our all Pinot champagne it was a magical combo. This is the kind of patron mind reading that differentiated a Michelin star restaurant. As the executive chef described the dish: "At the bottom of the bowl is a fried egg sauce, and is broken with a dill oil; second egg is a poached egg yolk (poached in a saline solution just so they are warmed through...we want the yolk to spill through the sauce...). We finish this dish with pickled shallots and more fresh dill for acidity and freshness, and drop a huge spoonful of caviar on top." The amuse was a great way to start especially with the pairing of our champagne. In lieu of the halibut in the Impressions menu I added the lamb from the other menu. Although it was only one piece in the rack of lamb it was terrific with the crunchy maitake mushroom and tasty sauce. The sommelier was excellent and professional without being pretentious -- as well as every single staff that greeted us and served us along the way. THIS Is what one should expect from a two star Michelin restaurant. I tasted the halibut from my wife and it seemed to be slightly under seasoned, though it had a decent sear. Service was perfection. They did not disappoint and I will be back!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
