Would have given the Grapevine 4 stars, but the owner really turned us off to going back, which is a shame since I've liked this place the other few times I have gone. This is surprising given all of the raves about the owner from other reviewers. Maybe the owner is nice as long as you're not from New Jersey? Or perhaps, if you go earlier before he's had one too many at the bar (he was the loudest person at the bar and could be heard there from our table at the front of the restaurant) Here's what happened... Our party of seven was waiting for a table at the bar and the owner came over and asked the usual questions, one being "where are you from?" That is when the sarcastic insults started flying. He told us that life is too short to live in NJ and that it's not to late to change our minds. He also asked me if I liked living there and tried to make me feel like an idiot for saying that, yes, in fact, I do like my home. I found this ridiculous given that he is from Los Angeles, and for all I know, has never even set foot in NJ. Look, I'm not an uptight person, but come on-- this was just too much. Nobody in our party thought it was funny (and we weren't all from NJ). Sorry, but sarcasm and insulting your customers is never appropriate, especially when they are about to drop $150 at your establishment. I have no desire to ever have an interaction with this person again, and will not be eating at the Grapevine anymore. There are too many other good restaurants in the area that don't look down on you that I can spend my money on. Too bad because we are in the area quite often since we own a home here. read more

Restaurant refused entry to a certified service dog trained to assist a Disabled person and the dog's trainer from Canine Angels. The restaurant owner was rude and police were called when he took the trainers cell phone and refused to give it back. Trainer was trying to show the dog's certification and local laws on the cell phone. If this restaurant is above serving people with disabilities, American vets - they won't get my business! We took a group here for dinner based on the reviews. What a let down! We arrived at 6:30 on time for our reservations and were seated right away. Not a lot of people there when we arrive. Waiter took our drink order. Other people started arriving. Our drinks finally arrived. We waited 45 minutes for the waiter to return to take our order! It was another hour before we got our food.Other people that were seated around us were served an had left by the time our food arrived. My husband an I ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl. I don't know if they had run out but the only thing in the cream sauce was celery so we paid for crunchy celery soup and it took 3 hours to get it! read more

I ordered a rare steak "rare" the steak came out and the meat was grey I asked the waitress if it was old or something. After arguing with me about it. I asked her to bring me another one. As I wanted to provide them with an opportunity to make things right....Big Mistake. They brought another steak and the waitress stood in front of me at the table as if to watch me eat it, which is a bit strange, I cut it open, no red, No pink and not juice, Just grey sponge like meat. The owner came of and argued with me about the steak claiming it was "AGED" which it does not say on their menu and the call me a picky eater and refused to remove the charge from our bill of offer me something else on the menu. I was never treated so badly at a restaurant. I ordered seafood pasta in a cream sauce. What I received was shrimp and scallops swimming in basil. After a few bites I couldn't even eat it. I asked to look at the menu to see if I missed the part about basil. It was never mentioned. The waitress was argumentative with me. The owner then came and proceeded to tell me this is what I ordered. She was rude and unprofessional. Being a server myself for 30 years I have never treated someone like is. I asked to have my dish taken off the check. They discounted it by half. Why? Because I ate the salad? What an Absolutely disgusting way to practice business. read more

Love this restaurant. They have excellent food and a great atmosphere. My favorite meal is the blackened chicken on greek salad. The prices are a little higher than most places but the food is fresh and consistent. Also the owner who is very nice comes around to the table to make sure your enjoying your meal. read more

My family has been frequenting Grapevine since their inception. My parents have lived at Sunset for many years and often dined there for business and pleasure purposes. Having been abroad for several years, I only get to go on occasion and it's always a treat for my palate. The last visit (August 2015) was rather disappointing. The service was as poor as you could get, several requests for items that had been on the menu for over a decade were met with blank stares and the response "We don't make that and never have", and when I asked for the owner by name to make note of the awful experience, I was told there was no such person. In the end, the food was fantastic as always and remains the only place in the area I will recommend for the best seafood on the coast. That recommendation now simply comes with a warning that service is questionable. I still look forward to my annual visits and truly hope they'll sort out their wait staff concerns. read more

My favorite place to eat two years in a row. The high quality service, the exceptional quality of food, cooked to perfection... All really make this place an experience you shouldn't miss out on. Leave the fried goodness for just one day and enjoy grilled to perfection filet mignon, salmon Brie specials, and ginger calamari ( to name a few). We were here on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. 3 people in our party. Very nice ambience, decent seating, nice menus and really good selection of food. The seafood pasta was phenomenal, will definitely order again if we decide to return. The reason I give it a 3-star is mainly for 2 reasons. One, DON'T ORDER THE BURGER...it was asked for med-rare and the burger came out raw, was gray in the middle instead of red and was cold. Told the waitress and waitress was slightly arguing that it was med-rare...no it was raw and cold. It was taken back, put in a microwave and brought back out...honestly not a cool way to redo a burger. That same burger should not have come back out, a new burger should have been made the proper way. Two, our waitress was subpar at best. She slightly argued to us about the rare burger that was supposed to be med-rare. You could tell it was rare and cold. The waitress was explaining, well you asked for med-rare, correct med-rare not raw. She lacked the attentiveness not just for our table but for other tables around us also. We had water glasses that remained mostly empty through-out our meal and had to ask several, several times for more water. I think next time will ask for a different waitress and order something different from the menu. read more

Overall, I love this place. Introduced to this restaurant while vacationing in Myrtle Beach. The host and staff are always nice. I have never had to wait for a table. The food is very good. The seafood tastes fresh and pasta is always a joy. The dishes are always very big. There is little parking along the restaurant, but across the street there is parking. read more

Arrived at 8pm, party of 8, 1 child. Seated at 8:40. Never saw a waiter until 9. Received some of our drinks, weren't able to order until 9:15. At that point, there were only 3 tables with larger parties (around 8+) in the entire restaurant. Had a four year old with us, she totally passed out, she was starving. Asked the manager (I hope not the owner, actually I hope the owner reads this) if they were short staffed tonight, his reply was, "all the restaurants are busy". No apology, nothing, basically, screw you. The worst restaurant experience I have ever had! I was pleasantly surprised with my lunch at the Grapevine. My guy and I went here before a day at Sunset beach. I had a steak and cheese panini. It was really good. Made with steak tips and provolone cheese. It was much better than I was expecting. My guy got the fried shrimp lunch special. He was very happy with his meal, especially for the price. We have eaten at Grapevine for several years and it was good. This year, we went last week. We expected crowds but called ahead and were seated in 15 minutes. No problem. BUT, it was another 90 minutes before we got our food. I had a glass of wine and water. Was never offered a second glass of wine and never got a water refill. Service was terrible! You won't be sitting at a seaside table, but the food and service is superior. I had the Mediterranean Pasta, a savory bowl of tender shrimp and scallops along with sauteed veggies with a light (but deeply flavored) pesto sauce over penne. My husband had the Chicken Bob, which was deliciously marinated and tender chicken served over richly flavored rice pilaf. We saw many other customers partaking of the evening special -- spaghetti and meatballs -- which looked and smelled fantastic. Lots of garlic and herbs inform the cuisine at the Grapevine. Love this place! We come here every year when we are at the beach. Friends introduced us over 15 years ago, and we are never disappointed. The restaurant has an Italian theme, but we specifically come for lunch and enjoy the seafood platter - your choice of two of either scallops, flounder, shrimp or clam strips lightly breaded Calabash style. Over the holidays, I had the pleasure of dining at Grapevine three weeks in a row. The first week I went with my wife and had such a good meal that we decided to take my in-laws there when they came to visit. The following week, when friends visited from Massachussets, we dediced to go again. Great Italian menu. My wife loves the Salmon and the 3 layer chocolate cake desert. We got fried provolone it was literally the same stuff u get at any half ass bowling alley. Finally got table waited over hour on food that was not too great. Yes this was a good find if you want excellent, knowledgeable wait staff. The young man we had was from Ga. and was the best we've seen in a while. The food was delicious and good size proportions.
