Really good experience st Grapevine last night. Been here before and always have had a consistently good meal. Four of us all had very good meals. Seafood Mediterranean, seafood prosciutto pasta and the Seafood pasta. Each with a salad. Good wine and beer selection. The service is very friendly; the owner is on site and greets you; food comes out well timed. It's a vacation community but you never feel rushed. Finding good Italian food in the south can sometimes be a challenge. This is your place. read more

My wife and I are locals and love Grapevine. The atmosphere is the best in the area, the staff is always attentive, and the food is amazing. (Anything with their marinated grilled chicken is worth it's weight in gold). Btw, in response to Donna's review, my wife and I were sitting where she came in and witnessed the whole situation. I didn't appreciate how she let her dog run all over the bar area while she waited on her to-go order. All of the patrons were hoping she would control her dog with her leash, but she never did. I appreciated Mac quietly and very politely approached her, and thought he handled the situation VERY graciously. Her response in turn was disrespectful to him, to the other patrons, and quite frankly, to herself by parading around the restaurant yelling about the situation as she made her way out. I can't recommend Grapevine enough. I travel throughout the US for work and it's rare that I find a restaurant as good. Mac has spent 25 years building a wonderful place with a fantastic atmosphere and culture. If you visit any of the beaches around Calabash and don't come have a meal, you've missed out! I have been customer of the Grapevine Restaurant in Calabash many times since I moved here 11 years ago but my visit on February 11thwill be my last. We were there for dinner with 3 other couples and they too witnessed an absolute lack of customer service and professionalism. My wife ordered the angel hair pasta with the up charge for chicken. When her meal came, she noticed that the chicken was under cooked. Our waitress apologized and asked the hostess to check with us. Now the problem begins. With just a quick glance at her plate, she tells my wife that the chicken is cooked properly and offers to take her dish away. My wife replies that she does not want to wait for a new dish and she will just eat the pasta without the chicken. The hostess leaves our table and returns with an attitude and a small plate and takes chicken from her dish. I then asked her why she is acting that way and what happened to a customer's ability to determine if something is cooked properly. She loudly replied the "customer is not always right" and leaves the table with the chicken. So now it gets to a new level, she returns about a minute later and takes the plate that my wife is eating from and shouts that "if we don't like the food then we should never come back here again." In all my years of dining I have never been treated in such a rude manner. This woman should not be a hostess anywhere! Given this experience, I asked to speak to the owner and the hostess told me he was working in the kitchen and was not available. The following week, 3 phone calls with messages that I wanted to speak with the owner have gone unanswered and I conclude that the owner does not want to hear from any customers. Ironically the Grapevine's webpage states "Our Goal is to make you a regular. To accomplish this, we combine excellent service and value with great food, drinks and fun in a comfortable atmosphere." To the owner - you just lost a regular, and I know of some others, as your hostess can't deal with her job and yells at a customer to never come back here again. As the owner, your obvious lack of interest in customer feedback reinforces my decision to never again visit your business. GOOD LUCK IN KEEPING YOUR CUSTOMERS; YOU MAY NEED IT. read more

My wife and I were having a lovely dinner on June 10th when Donna L. came in to pick up take out. She brought her dog into the restaurant unleashed and allowed him to run free. The owner asked her to pick up her dog and she started yelling at him that he was an a**hole. She came to the main dining area and continued to yell at him and create a scene. Not disappointed, I am a very adventurous eater, but poor hubby likes the mainstays. So, he had the provolone delights for app and the blackened chicken over pesto penne, which for you other eaters that eat for survival alone, is simply ground basil w/ olive oil and pine nuts.....my dish was superb! Hubby had 2 Heinekens ( though they had a full bar) and I enjoyed 2 glasses of J. Lohr Cab. Someone who appeared to be the owner/manager sat 15' from us in a near empty restaurant, and never found time to come around and inquire or help. Great food and a rotation of tourists enables businesses like this to thrive in this area. Yum! If you don't mind a bit of a wait for your food , this is a great place to visit while vacationing at the beach. We arrived after 7 pm, seated right away, & promptly greeted by server. Drinks and bread came out soon after. We ordered the calabash seafood and the chicken sandwich, served Greek style (peppers, olives, feta). I estimated that we got our food about 25-30 minutes later. Would have appreciated an update on the foods' arrival from the server but she didn't offer. The chicken sandwich, served with curly fries and slaw was excellent. The calabash seafood (shrimp and flounder) were reported to be ok. Not a very fishy taste, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Very inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. There must have been regulars (or family) seated near us because the owner talked to them a very long time and they seemed to get their food a lot quicker than most. We came across this gem in the midst of a the fried food places in Calabash. My husband wanted to take me for a ride and visit a place we had not been yet. Not only was the service outstanding but my salmon was seared to perfection. I found my self licking my fork! My husband had bow tie pasta with shrimp and roasted tomato and he could not stop raving about it! For desert , we shared a slice of creme brûlée cheesecake that was divine. Considering the near-monopoly of "Calabash style" (also known as fried) seafood in the immediate vicinity, it's nice to have a place that can put something on your plate that isn't battered and cooked in oil. Then again, if someone in your party is not yet sick of over-priced deep-fried fare, Grapevine will still happily indulge that (an option I seriously considered on this visit.) Everyone at my table ordered a variation of shrimp, and all were pleased with their meals. Three of us got a pasta and I had the grilled shrimp, which was very tasty. Service was friendly and prompt. Given the fact that Grapevine eschews the cultivated dockside dive look that so many other restaurants in the area employ (some authentically, others less so) for a more upscale aesthetic, I was surprised to see that their prices are somewhat lower. I'll call this the best value I've seen in the area. All but one or two menu items are under $20 and portion sizes were appropriate. I call this a win. read more

She has this infectious giggle that had me laughing all the out dinner which by the way was fantastic. You can the tell they remodeled the inside and Mac and his team did a real good job. This was a wonderful meal. I had the filet and it was very flavorful and good to the last bite. Some people in my party had the full Calabash and they said the seafood was cooked perfectly. We all had clear plates at the end of our meal. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I am pretty sure our waitress was serving the entire dining room at 5 p.m. This definitely limited the number of times she could come check on us and I did have to track her down for something at one point. This wasn't her fault though, seems like a scheduling issue to me. I'm sure the owner was nice, but he didn't seem to be helping the server and he definitely didn't check on us. Terrible... I will never go here again! This was our first time going there and the waiter barely checked on us. There was no drink refills or customer service. The food did come out quickly and was good quality. However, what happened next was horrendous. When it was time to pay it took the restaurant a good 20 minutes to run the FIRST card. Then, the waiter came back and explained that none of our three cards worked (all from different banks). He requested a different form of payment and we gave him a set of three different cards to try. The waiter came back and told us those were declined as well. It turns out there was a power outage and the card readers were down. However, it charged my credit card. The owner came out to explain that we should write our credit card number, zip code, and phone number down. We all felt very uncomfortable with that and were told to walk down the street to get cash out of an ATM at 9 pm. By this point the time had already accumulated 45 minutes. I feel after the time allotment and the effort on our part with two different cards the meal should have been comped. This whole situation was very unprofessional. read more

I came here for lunch for the first time, and enjoyed it. Had the Santa fe pasta over Labor day weekend. It was very good. The cream sauce over the pasta was a tiny bit runny in my opinion, but not bad enough to not allow me to enjoy it. The flavor was great, and the portion size was very big! So after a salad and the scrumptious bread with pesto dipping sauce, I was happy to take the rest of my pasta home to eat again. The service was great, restaurant was very clean, quaint, and comfortable. I sat at the bar, and the lady bartender( can't remember her name) was very sweet, attentive, and welcoming.
