[[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely a no-frills kind of place but that's exactly what I want.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You go in and can seat yourself, menus already on the table. Came during a Tuesday evening. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is so relaxed. Everyone is doing their own thing, almost even spacing out, but that was very calming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the meat combination over rice plate and I actually enjoyed all the meats, but I do wish it was hot. The flowering chives with mushroom roll are my favorite though. It is surprisingly such a nice mix of leaf and stalk textures that I haven't tried a lot in any Asian cuisine. Cash only.

Came on a rainy Saturday to see what all the buzz was about! We got sat immediately and got lucky, the place got jammed right after we sat down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved watching the duck and pork getting carried past our table to the chopping block literally right behind me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the crispy pork which arrived...cold? But it was delicious and the skin was sooo crunchy. We held onto the sweet dipping sauce because we also ordered 2 soft shell crabs which went REALLY well with the sauce and a shrimp wonton noodle soup. The shrimp wontons were a little heavy on the sesame oil but plump and the noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy. They needed our table so they booted us the heck outta there and I had to ask for my water glass back because I wasn't done drinking it! Wohop's SSC are smaller but salted a little better. This place's crabs were bigger and meatier but definitely milder.

Great NY Noodletown doesn't have the crazy late hours that it used to, but it STILL is a delicious destination, especially post-happy hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Solid solo diner spot, and there are large round tables for group affairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Roast duck on rice? Yes! Not into rice, switch that out for egg noodles. Get yourself a bit of soup broth on the side - or a whole ass bowl of noodle soup if you're hungry. Cash only. I can't believe my last review for them was *18 years ago*.

    Beef Chow Fun

Great NY Noodle Town might be a double edged sword for many people. For some who want to get food fast and something quick and easy, this is a great place for people who know what they want. For those who want to take in the time to enjoy their food and expect service, I'd probably be honest with you this place can be a miss for many. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's chaotic, the table space is small and maybe you might bump shoulders with someone but you get your food quick and sometimes the food will make up for the negatives[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] ( I hope ). I personally will recommend two things; 1. Bring CASH 2. Know what you want ahead of time The servers here move at a fast pace and I'd say they don't really like to wait. The service could be better and I agree but that's why like I said it's a double edged sword. The food here at least is great and is a major reason why people come back. If you do decide to dine in here, you get complimentary tea. You can ask for hot water but you have to flag the server ( or anyone really ). Sometimes it's easier to do that than wait because it lets the restaurant know that you want something. I got Beef Chow Fun & Beef Pan Fried Noodles. Truly a staple in Chinese Food. Beef Chow Fun is like wide rice noodles that's stir fried quickly with light/dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wing, bean sprouts, and generally flank steak. It's delicious and the Wok Hei ( think of it like the Maillard Reaction ) gives it a nice smoky flavor from being cooked too fast. I also got Beef Pan Fried Noodles which is made with Hong Kong Pan Fried Noodles, Marinated Beef, Ginger, Garlic, Bok Choy, Aromatics, and Gravy that's like a slurry from the cornstarch they mix in. If you like crispy noodles, this is definitely the way to go. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. Bring a friend or a family if you come here but just come in knowing what to expect. The tipping or the service charge is true, I did get charged 20% but if you really want to know; feel free to flag down someone to clarify. Once again, it's Cash Only so keep that in mind when dining out in Chinatown.

I always leave this place feeling full and happy feeling. Teas are complementary. You can also ask for hot water too. Their shrimp wonton noodles are the best. I don't think the taste changed from when I used to come here w my sister in 2016

Baby pig and Sautéed Chinese Broccoli

Met a friend at Great NY Noodletown on a warm June Sunday for lunch. I have wanted to go for a few years to try their famous soft shelled crabs when they're in season and was glad to have plans to go and finally sample. The waitress came over right away and seeing my friend and I wiping perspiration from our foreheads from a hot walk there, and she immediately offered us a cool drink. Drinks delivered and cooler, we ordered. I knew I wanted the crabs, and we asked the waitress what else she recommended. She offered great ideas: baby pig which came sliced with crispy skin and tender meat and delicious sauce, sautéed Chinese broccoli arriving glossy and jade green and perfectly cooked, and when we said we liked spicy, she recommended wide rice noodles with a yellow curry sauce and shrimp and pork that had a touch of heat, and lots of flavor. Delicious! All dishes were excellent and the waitress guided us nicely for a well rounded sample of dishes. The crabs deserved the hype: Well seasoned, fresh and tender under a crispy exterior, and they were large and meaty. I loved the food and the service was attentive and kind, so look forward to going back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean and neat but no frills space, because the food is the star.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, cash only. My friend bought lunch for my birthday, but I think we did not know about the "sc" (service charge) already on the bill (and this does feel a little sneaky and disingenuous tbh) and maybe tipped on top. Wish I knew this before, so check your bill or ask! But that said, can't wait to go back. If I lived nearby I'd be getting those amazing soft shelled crabs and Chinese broccoli to take home too. Dreaming of my next sample. Yum.

Finally made it to this classic Chinatown institution. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room is plain. It's immaculately clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The staff were efficient, if not effusive. The food was amazing. I followed Eater and Robert Sietsma's advice. We started with roast pork wonton soup. It was an enormous serving with a generous amount of roast pork, ethereal gigantic shrimp wontons and fine noodles. The broth had a funky underdone that I was undecided about. My brother said that it always tastes that way. It was cured with a splash of soy sauce. We had the 3 barbecued meat combo. We had char siu, regular roast pork- which tasted surprisingly different and roast duck. Finally we split an order of beef chow fun with gravy. It was delicious and the gravy added deep umami. We got a side of green sauce to splash on the meat. It was really good and worth getting. The portions were enormous. We had a ton of leftovers. The prices were reasonable. Cash only. If you like Cantonese food and haven't been, go!

    Soft Shell Crab (Seasonal)

Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong noodle dish so I didn't get the full experience. I got the chicken and vegetable with wide noodle and it wasn't great. It had a very weird yet bland flavor profile and the texture was slimy. Wouldn't recommend. That being said I also got the seasonal soft shell crab and that was amazing! The food my neighbors ordered looked insanely good so this one is on me. Will be back to order the right things.

After all the times that I've passed by this venerable Chinatown institution...I FINALLY had an opportunity to stop in...and boy oh boy I was not disappointed!! I purchased three BBQ meat over rice dishes to go (Roast Pork over Rice, Roast Pig over Rice and Roast Duck over rice). The roast pork was absolutely delicious and tender, and the white rice had soaked in all that delicious juice drippings from the meat. The Roast Duck was very tender and flavorful (although I wish they had included a little more duck in my order). My wife had the roast pig over rice (the only complaint she had was that the skin wasn't crispy even after warming up in the air fryer). I tasted hers and found the meat to be very tender in a favorable. Three meat over rice dishes for only $26 in Manhattan Chinatown??? WINNER!!! Looking forward to going back there and try some of the other dishes . Very highly recommended!!

This place was rated one of the 100 best restaurants in NYC! I had to give it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small casual place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's packed during lunch time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We waited for about 15 minutes and got seated at a small table for 5 of us. We ordered half roasted duck, bbq pork, beef chow fen and beef noodle soup. The duck was very good and I'd recommend this dish. BBQ pork was ok. Beef chow fen didn't have much beef and beef noodle soup was average. It's a cash only place. Please be aware that they charge you 20% service charge automatically! No need to tip extra! It's very misleading the way how they presented the check. It's on a handwritten receipt with "SC" next to it, which would be hard to tell if not paying attention to your bill. In my opinion, there are soooo many better Cantonese restaurants near by in Chinatown.

    Mary L.

This place never disappoints when I just want some noodles. You don't go to Chinatown for service, you go for the food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's always crowded in here, but you know there's always good food here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Always remember to bring cash here.

Stopped in for a bite! The hubby had a tripe noodle soup. The broth was delicious. It hugs you from the I side out. I had fried pork chops and rice. So delicious

Great NY Noodle Town has been one of my longtime go-to spots for takeout, and it continues to hit the mark. The food is consistently flavorful, portions are generous, and while prices have crept up a bit over the years, it still feels like solid value for the amount and quality you get. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is classic Chinatown: straightforward, no-frills, and full of old-school charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is famously abrupt and efficient -- very much a "get you fed fast" operation -- but that's part of the experience here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room gets busy and crowded during peak hours, with tight or communal seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just know what you're walking into and you'll be fine. What really keeps people coming back is the food. It's a favorite spot for authentic Cantonese comfort dishes, and a few standouts are consistently recommended: * Wonton noodle soup -- light, clean, and one of the best in Chinatown. * Roast meats -- BBQ pork, roast duck, and soy sauce chicken are all excellent. * Beef chow fun -- smoky, tender, and perfectly wok-fried. * Salt-baked soft-shell crab (when in season) -- a longtime favorite. They're open seven days a week and operate on a cash-only basis, so come prepared. If you're with friends, the rice or noodle combos with mixed meats are a great way to sample more of the menu without over-ordering. Overall, Great NY Noodle Town remains a reliable, iconic stop for straightforward, delicious Cantonese food -- whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout.

Is the restroom accessible, on the same level as the restaurant, or down a flight of stairs? Thanks!

    Same level

Do they offer any delivery options?

    No only pick up

How much is a whole roast duck?

    I think it was $32

Can you tell me what time you close? 4PM or 4AM like before Covid 19 days?

    Our business hours are Sunday-Thursday 9am-10pm Friday-Saturday 9am-11pm

    They open again yet?

    Yes

    Are they permanently closed?

Heck no!!! Sometimes they close early so call ahead if you are headed there after 9 pm. And try the shrimp wonton soup

Has this restaurant reopen after renovations?

No I was there on Wednesday at 9pm and they were closed. Hopefully they are-open:( it's sad how many restaurants this city swallows up and then the rich carpet baggers move in

When will you open for late night again?

Are they opened for dine-in now?

Yes we open for dine-in everyday from 10am-7pm

Do they open for delivery during Covid19?

They have been closed. I've called and driven by twice. The whole area is shut down I went by last weekend.

Anyone know when their soft shell crab is in season?

Basically it's end of summer as far as I know. Definitely end of October

Do they serve alcohol or is it BYOB? Thank you!

    They serve beer for sure.

What kind of broth does this place have? We tried asking the servers but they couldn't understand English too well

I never asked but I think Chicken, pork and beef broth are mostly use in this restaurant.

Does this place still have a "B" health rating in the window?

They now seem to have A

This second go around was a celebration dinner with my brother so we ordered quite a bit to share. For starters we had their crab rangoon, wontons in chili oil, and salt pepper wings. The rangoons were perfectly crisp but the filling just didn't impress me all too much. I love a good smack of green onion & crab, this one lacked both. Definitely not my favorite rangoons and only 3??? Hmm. The wontons were sublime though. They were nice and plump with a nice punch from the chili oil they bathe in. The chicken wings were pretty standard, I kinda wish there was more pepper on it. It was nice and salty but severely lacked pepper for being a pepper oriented dish. As for the General Tsos? YUM. This was great. The ratio of batter to chicken wasn't bad and it had such a great crisp. The actual General Tso sauce was perfect as well, I could not stop picking at this. The Shrimp Lo Mein was also fantastic, very smoky which I'm a sucker for. The shrimps were perfectly cooked as well and the noodles..... bouncy umami goodness. Delicious food, decent prices, great service I should add. In Chinatown, you learn that hospitality is entirely optional. Here though, they are welcoming and communicate very well with you. Our waiter and the hosts were especially lovely on this night. For next time, I'd pass on the crab rangoons and go for their crispy garlic chicken over the salt pepper wings. There will definitely be a next time though!
