My wife and I were in Poulsbo on an errand and decided to stop in and eat before a movie we were going to see. They seated us quickly and were very courteous. I ordered the chicken fried steak and I love Garlic Fries, so I ordered those instead of the typical mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was probably the best Chicken Fried Steak that I have ever had. About a week before my wife and I visited Claim Jumper in Southcenter, and although I love their food as well, I told my wife that this Chicken Fried Steak was Better!! She tried some of mine and agreed. Food is reasonably priced and very good. I definitely recommend this place. Not enough places in the area do chicken and waffles, so they get 3 stars just for trying. Bonus is that it's actually good, not expensive, and gives you good portions. Also, maple bacon compound butter should be served on basically everything. I'd go 5 stars, but the food does end up coming pretty slowly. This place is a really cute little diner in the heart of downtown Poulsbo. My husband took me and our 3 kids here for Mother's Day brunch. The staff was all very friendly and polite. We had a short wait before being seated which was fine with us. The waiter informed us that the food might take a while as the kitchen was backed up. We ordered pretty quickly and then waited. We did wait for quite some time, probably 40 minutes, before our food came. The food was all very delicious but not worth a 40-minute wait. I'd definitely go back again as the food was good and to see if the wait time would be shorter on a non-holiday. read more

I have to give this dinner a 1 because of the poor customer service we received. The waiter came to our table asked what we wanted to drink and my husband said coffee. He brought us our coffee and then told him to give us a couple of seconds. He said he will be right back to check up on us. 20 min passed by and the waiter hasn't checked up on us he was walking around never brought my husband creamer or sugar. He even saw us looking around for a waiter to help us. Walked out after 30 min of waiting for him to help us. Disappointed. read more

I stopped at this diner for a takeout salad for lunch. The menu posted outside stated that the chicken pecan salad was $12.99. When I ordered it, I was charged $15.33. I was overcharged for the salad so I went back to speak to the staff. The manager told me that they hadn't had a chance to change the menu outside. The price of $14.29 on the menu was the correct price. I asked the manager to honor the $12.99 price, but at first she wouldn't budge. It was just a matter of $1.50 difference. She begrudgingly refunded my money on my VISA card. To make matters worse, I realized that I was missing my VISA card later in the day. I surmised that I didn't get my credit card back. The restaurant was closed already. My husband called the restaurant about 4 pm (they closed at 3 pm), and the manager answered. She refused to meet us at the restaurant to return my credit card which they failed to return to me. The manager told my husband to come back again tomorrow, not an option since we live in Seattle. I had to call my bank and cancel the credit card. The next morning, we called the restaurant and they had the credit card. We asked them to cut up the card because it was useless. I would not recommend going to this diner - the manager's attitude was surly and unprofessional. I will never return again. read more

This is the 6th time having breakfast / lunch. The first three time the meals were great. The last three which occurred in the last 2 months were disappointing. The cup of chili was very thick and cold as if they took the chili out of the freezer and placed it in the microwave. The hamburger came with some extras that I had ask to not put on my burger. Let's just start by stating this is not a diner but a restaurant with a kitschy wanna be diner theme. Mostly black and white tiled floor, breakfast all day and 50's music does not a diner make. We just moved to Washington state from the South (previously lived in the Mid-Atlantic) and our definition of a diner is certainly not this restaurant. If you want to know what a really diner is, look at the Penn Queen diner in Pennsauken, NJ. That is a real diner. This was a themed restaurant. We were a party of 6 very hungry people who were just trapped in the car for 2 hours. We stopped at the first place that sold food. We should have stayed strong, argued more and at least made it next door to the Italian restaurant. The food was ok. Mediocre​ fits the bill since a good portion of it seemed not to be restaurant made but either from frozen (chicken fingers) or purchased from Sysco. Portion size was large but if the food is meh, it doesn't really matter. I had a club with no ham and supposedly extra turkey. They must have kept my extra turkey in the kitchen (believe me, after seeing the sandwich, I was fine with less turkey). Turkey was an odd pink color and when questioned, the hostess stated maybe it was from the leg. Hmmm...obviously, she has doesn't know the difference between white and dark meat. I was so hungry, I ate it anyway. It tasted like they opened the packaged of Oscar Meyer and slapped it on. Needless to say, I didn't finish the sandwich. Actually, I don't think anyone finished their food except my daughter who ate scrambled eggs. The bread was very good though. Service was fantastic. Our server never let a glass go empty or coffee get cold. She didn't hover but always seemed to appear when something was needed. The 50s music was set for someone who appreciated the music when it was new and now deaf. My father turned off his hearing aides and had no problems hearing the music. Everyone in the restaurant was yelling or silent because you couldn't hear anyone speak unless it was directly in their ear. One last gripe. The tiny server station was set in the middle of the small seating area. The dirty dishes was placed on a bottom shelf, exposed to the entire restaurant and forcing at least 2 and up to 4 to sit directly next to someone else's dirty dishes and half eaten food in an industrial grey tub. Yum, that was quite appealing. The server station could easily be moved into the corner with a partitioned wall so it is at least hidden yet accessable to the wait staff. A 2 top could be placed in the old station spot so table space isn't lost and also used to accommodate parties larger than 8 without forcing the patrons to squeeze onto the ends. This was a pass for us. Other people seemed quite happy, going home with to go containers. Judging from the amount of food left on people's plates in the lovely, exposed grey tubs, I don't think they will be back either. read more

What a welcome addition to Kitsap County's restaurants. Recently went there in a party of six adults. Nice atmosphere, though I'm sure they would appreciate having a bit more space. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and immediately seated, having beaten the evening rush. The menu was quite well balanced and each of us were torn between several options. Three opted for dinners and three for breakfasts. Everyone--all six of us--were delighted with our meals, which spanned the menu. I had a reuben sandwich, and I believe it was the finest one I've had in my entire life (and I'm nearly sixty). My wife and i went for breakfast yesterday at the Green Light Diner just to try something different. We were greeted and seated almost immediately and given our menus and a glass of water. The place was about half full and we anticipated a lengthy wait based on a couple of reviews we read here. Breakfast came within several minutes after ordering and was placed in front of us by a friendly young man. I had the chicken fried steak with hashbrowns and eggs over easy. My wife had an ham and cheese omelet also with hashbrowns. We both had a large OJ. The chicken fried steak was done perfectly and the sausage gravy was very good. The steak was tender and easy to cut and delicious. My wife enjoyed her omelet and said so when the young lady came back to check on how we were enjoying everything as well as asking if everything was as ordered. The OJ was very good and much better than I've found in most places. Overall a great experience that will have us returning. The only reason it is 4 stars and not 5 is that the portions were to generous. If that's not nitpicking I don't know what is. We could have EASILY gotten by with half the portions of hashbrowns, which needed to be a bit more crispy for my delicate taste, and my wife's 4 egg omelet was a bit overwhelming along with the generous hashbrown portion. I would only recommend to the owners that they consider smaller portions of hashbrowns with any additional as a side. Also, an option for a 2 or 3 egg omelet would help us geezers get lighter on our toes. I know, I don't have to eat it all. i do believe that there would be less waste (lower operational cost) by reviewing portion sizes and a few menu options. I look forward to coming back in the near future to try different items and will recommend the Green Light Diner to my friends and family. read more

My brother was in town from Texas so we decided to take him to The Green Light Diner. We had to wait a bit....understandable for a Sunday morning. We were seated and the hostess immediately got water on the table and brought out coffee for my brother. The waitress was prompt at taking our order and gave some helpful suggestions to my bro on the oysters he ordered. I had a Belgium waffle combo and my hubby had the Hangtown Fry. The food was fresh, hot, cooked perfectly to order and delicious(I'm not sure what magical means they used to make my waffle, but it was amazing good!). We live close to downtown and always enjoy the vibe at Green Light. However a recent trip there endeared them to us even more. We took visiting family for a farewell breakfast to Green Light. The food was as always stick to your ribs good, but one small thing darker our experience. Something very small, one of the sodas had ants in it... it was a little gross but as anyone knows here in Washington sugar ants are everywhere. Green Light was awesome about it and comped our drinks. The one woman server in the restaurant spent her time behind the bar, where no customers were seated. Finally one member of our party got up and asked for our bill. Oh my! Staying at the Clearwater Casino for a couple of nights and got up this morning wondering where I should wander for breakfast. I drove downtown Poulsbo and found a parking spot right in front of this lovely little place so I knew it would be the spot for me today. Very Standard Food, Very Substandard Service. I tried Green Light Diner for the first time today for breakfast. I was greeted promptly and pleasantly, seated, and brought water and coffee. Then the trouble started. The waitress took our orders (2 create your own omelettes) without writing anything down, asked us twice to be sure, and then returned to the table again after entering it to check my friend's order. Each order came out wrong. Some of the ingredients were swapped and some were completely wrong. The waitress knew that mine had been made incorrectly and had brought a side of raw onions to replace the spinach filling which I had not asked for. Despite this, the meat and cheese were still wrong. My friend's had the wrong cheese, but he ate it anyway doubtful that it would come out any better a second time. His instincts were spot-on; my replacement omelette came out after five minutes, wrong again. We were not offered any discounts to replace this, although the waitress did bring us the first omelette (which neither of us wanted) to bring home and eat cold. Yum. The meals were standard diner fare, slightly overpriced in comparison to other local breakfast places. I will not dine here again, nor recommend it to anyone. To the owner, I strongly encourage that you have your waitstaff use an order pad to ensure that orders are put in correctly. read more

Not very welcoming/warm vibe. Toddler got the chicken strip basket- chicken strips were ok but the fries were burning hot so he lost interest in it after burning his mouth a couple times. The best diner in Poulsbo. Food is great and the service is "alright". Thats the only thing holding back that 5th star. My waitress took our order and delivered it. That's it. Didnt check on drinks and I had to hunt her down to get the check. So why did I even give it 4 stars? The location is perfect, the vibe in the place is as well. Its clean and the attention to detail is something every diner should emulate. Seriously. The kid place-settings have a perfectly sized kids straw, fruit snacks, a coloring page, and crayons. They have decks of cards on the table to get the family to put down the smartphones. Unfortunately the decks aren't complete!
