Horrible! Service sucked. Ordered our meals (fish and chips and patty melt). Waited and waited and waited. Finally, the waitress came to us and said she was "so sorry" but she forgot to put our order in. We said, "ok". Waited and waited. Plates were served -- the patty melt bread was burnt and the fish and chips had no "chips". The patty melt came out ok The waitress said she would "comp" the patty melt. We decided to share the fries that came with the patty melt. Waitress came by -- when we reminded about no chips, she looked at the fish plate and said, "are you sure?" I could go on but what's the point? Manager dropped by and "apologized". The bill came and the patty melt was not comped. They gave us a 10% discount off the bill. As we were leaving, I saw the manager delivering a meal to another table apologetically. When paying the bill, the cashier said they had "a couple" new kitchen people and were "short-staffed". I took my son here for lunch and it was overall a good experience. We were seated quickly but were asked to move due to needing the table for a larger party, but seeing as we hadn't been served it wasn't a problem. The playing cards are a fabulous touch. My fish sandwich was great and the ranch dressing is freshly made. The fries and chicken strips were very "prepackaged" but the portions were nice. First time to the green light. We were drawn in because we knew it was new to the area; the fact they serve breakfast all day was a bonus. She had the spinach portobello Benedict with no complaints other than the price is a little steep but that is the usual case these days. I ordered the flapjack platter with an extra pancake. I was a bit annoyed that their only "combo" didn't offer more choices: i.e. Short stack combo, or a waffle combo. They do offer breakfast sides at a higher cost than I would like. For ten dollars I ordered the one flapjack with 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon (which came out burnt), and hash browns. I ordered an additional pancake for 2.99! When you're hungry I guess you're willing to pay anything. Overall the food was what you would expect, the old fashioned hash browns were pretty darn good and the pancakes where no better than I make at home. The service is what will keep me from coming back. After being promptly seated by very friendly staff, our beverage order was taken while we poured over the menu. Once we figured out what we wanted we waiting a good 10 minutes for our order to be taken. Certainly I would understand had the place been busy, but it wasn't. Two other groups were seated after we were, one group was of substantial size (8 people). The other group which had been seated after we were, provided their order to their waitress as we received our drinks. The time it took for our food to arrive once our waitress took our order was not long at all, which we were very happy about. Like I mentioned above, my bacon was burnt well beyond what I enjoy (I didn't ask for crispy it well done bacon either). It was burnt enough to where I would have mentioned this to waitress had she come by. Then there is the case of my water. Since I was carrying a travel mug of coffee with me, I opted only to enjoy some water. By my second or third bite into my meal my water cup was empty, the way it would remain for the rest of our visit. When my cup had run dry I made sure to not to hide my cup, I placed it squarely at the end if the table for all passing waitstaff to view. I could see that there was active watering going on around me, yet I received no more hydration. It wasn't until our waitress came by to bring the check that my girlfriend asked me if I wanted anymore water... To which I declined. I know there are plenty of excuses that could brought about new waitress or whatever. But every bus boy, waitress, and hostess passed my table and empty cup on its edge, all with pitchers of water in their grasp and I could get no love. When I hear the food quality and prices are succinct and the service meets common expectation I probably won't be back. read more

Sadly, I have had my first poor experience with the Green Light Diner. Previous 'eat-in' experiences were good - breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, it appears that with Covid and the advent of increases take-out dining, standards have slipped. My wife and I ordered fried chicken dinners for take out. Upon arriving home and opening up the cartons, we were greeted with extremely overcooked fried chicken. Very dark brown, very hard skin, and very, very dry meat inside. I don't believe for a minute we would have been served this chicken if we were dining in the restaurant, but since it is pretty much impossible (at least impractical even) to send back food when it has been taken home, I think someone made the decision to just give us take-out customers the ruined chicken. The soup of the day (sausage & lentil?) was okay, the vegetables over steamed - but the crime was the chicken. I wound up breaking off the skin, prying the dry meat from the bones, and using it for dog-treats for my golden retrievers. The only reason I am giving even 3 stars is because all my earlier 'pre-Covid' visits, where we ate in the restaurant, were very good. read more

This is our second time eating at this little jewel and we've not had a bad dish yet. Our waitress Mary who we have also had both times is very friendly and spot on with her service. My wife had the strawberry waffle and she said it's the best she's ever had. It's very clean, we love the 50s diner feel and that it's not the typical greasy low grade quality of food. Stopped at this place with my dad while on vacation. It was lovely! The diner was very cute and vintage themed. The strawberry waffles were delicious! The bacon was crispy and eggs (ordered soft scrambled) were a bit more firm for my liking. Also, they had breakfast potatoes that tasted like the ones at home which was awesome. Their prices were a bit high or I would have tried a mimosa (menu said it was made with fresh squeezed orange juice). Our waiter was attentive and friendly (even commented on our Texas accents!) Stepping into the restraunt, you immediately notice the beautiful retro decor. The staff seemed friendly, and our waitor was attentive. I order the Chicken Fried Steak, and it was to die for! I was quite surprised to have such a bad experience here this evening. The business, back when it was Mor Mor, was a family favorite and even now as the louder and less-enticing Green Light, it was usually good food and service. This evening's dinner was a startling disappointment. This entry will be more easily written as a bullet list than a narrative: - we waited 15 minutes to have our order taken - then waited about 45 minutes for the starter soups to arrive - no visits during that above hour to fill empty water glasses or check on us - I was brought steak and eggs rather than the chicken fried steak and eggs - to fix the above, a server picked the steak up off my plate with her fingers to remove it while telling me that my order would be right out - I ordered "cup of grits" as my side and received a congealed-solid bowl of cheese grits. - when I asked about the above I was told that they must have run out of plain grits (the menu only lists one choice, shown above) - When the chicken fried steak was brought, the "country gravy" with it was congealed and cold. - The fried chicken ordered by one of my companions was quite overdone and tough. - The dinner plate of my other companion contained a second bowl of soup (like the kitchen thought it hadn't been served yet). - To finish up, the bill contained the higher-priced "steak and eggs" dish that I hadn't ordered and had to be redone. Not sure what was happening there tonight to throw them that far off their game, but it doesn't much make me want to give them another try for a while. read more

I give this place 2 stars because the concept and idea behind this place is great. I love the atmosphere - but really that's all they have going for them. The setting does NOT sell the food! I've eaten there twice now and there burgers are terrible. Why? They start at 10$ and I swear taste just like Bubba Burgers. I know what a "diner style" burger is supposed to taste like. Thin patties, greasy and delicious. I got a burger dip this time and was SHOCKED at how NOT good it was. Ever since this restaurant changed names from Mor Mor to Green Light Diner (but with the same owners) we've become more "regulars", enjoying the food, milk shakes, friendly service, and playing short games of cards which are provided at every table - all of it at affordable prices. During the last few months we noticed that there seems to be a shortage of personnel, as the wait time (although quite a few tables are unoccupied) has increased on every level - seating and food service. Today, Saturday before Memorial Day, my husband treated me out for breakfast and of course chose the Green Light Diner again. First of - the hostess kept busy clearing, cleaning and setting tables between seating people. We saw every employee running around at top speed, working their behinds off - no time for friendly demeanor. After waiting about 15 minutes - I finally asked the lady behind the soda fountain if some servers had left them in a lurch - the answer was curt and NO. Yet - one of our favorite servers "Tiffany" told us a few months ago that her hours had been cut to only work a couple of days or so a week - we haven't seen her since. We then observed what sadly is commonly done at most such caliber restaurants and really grosses us out - someone cleaned a table, cleaned the vinyl booth seats - and threw the dirty cloth on the next unoccupied table - then used it on the next table. YUK! These cloths are laden with germs and bacteria, spread from table to table - without being washed or replaced between each use. That was the icing on the cake, and we left to go across the street to Sheila's Café, which was packed - yet we were seated immediately and had our yummy breakfast 15 minutes later - served with a smile. They had plenty of personnel to take care of what was sure to be an onslaught of customers between 9-10am on a holiday weekend. Apparently the Diner's owner is sacrificing quality for quantity now - turning the establishment into a production line. We won't be back any time soon. read more

The Green Light Diner is great for a consistently good breakfast and friendly service. A 50's themed place that is comfortable and clean, plenty of tables and some booths. They get my eggs right every time and portions are generous. Service is timely and the servers are friendly but not chatty. This place is good for groups and family-with-kids friendly. They took good care to meet my dietary needs which shows that they have an experienced staff. That is a welcome bonus! I asked and learned that many of the servers have years of experience. Omg! Is what comes to mind when I think about this place! I came from California to visit my sister in Washington and she took me here! Best American Breakfast I ever ate! Ihop, Denny's, and other American diners can't match up! The food is purely delicious and super fresh! My sister ordered "chicken and waffles", best waffles I ever ate and I don't usually eat chicken; but I'm glad I did. The chicken and waffles together was amazing! They complimented each other very well! I forgot the name, but it was a big breakfast meal with awesome bacon, a gigantic "slice" of ham, sunny side up eggs, hashbrowns, and biscuits and gravy! We live here in town(Poulsbo) and the last time we were in this place it was going to be the last because of poor service, mediocre food, and cavalier employee attitude. Grudgingly visited this evening with out of town relatives and now none of us will be repeat customers. Clam chowder with partially cooked potatoes, fish and chips that were more like breaded sushi--cool and not fully cooked. and "chicken noodle soup" that was flavorless. I use to eat at Mor Mor Bistro before the owners revamped and opened what is now the called The Green Light Diner. I really liked the change in atmosphere. Its filled with cool decor and is a family friendly restaurant in downtown Poulsbo. The staff was really friendly and the service was quick. I really enjoyed my dinner. I had the Mor Mor Swedish Meatballs and it was hard not to lick my plate! My husband had the chicken fried steak. He orders this meal every where we go and he absolutely loved it! My spicy mangorita was bomb! I had to order 2! The menu has a bit of everything on it and they even offer non dairy choices for ice cream. Which is great because I'm lactose intolerant. Having read about the Green Light Dinner and knowing John since he was a young boy growing up in Silverdale we wanted to give it a try plus we had always enjoyed eating there when it was Mor Mor. Upon entering the four of us just didn't get the feeling of an old school dinner but more of a glitzy rushed make over not a fun place like a dinner should be. The dinner was maybe one third full so we asked for a table instead of booth which Taylor seated us at, thanks. After reviewing the four pages on the menu and ordering drinks which took ten minutes to get we each ordered simple sandwiches, Club House, Ruben, French Dip and Ambulance Chaser Burger nothing fancy or hard to make, prices were on the average $10.95 plus $1.75 extra for Garlic fries which was high for what you get. Two people had ordered salads with their sandwiches instead of fries, one came the other was forgot about and Taylor didn't make it back to the table until our sandwiches were brought at which time we asked about the other salad, she had forgot about it and offered to bring it right away but since sandwich's were there opted for the fries instead. Okay now the food, Club House okay nothing exciting, Ambulance Chaser Burger seen bigger burgers at BK, French Dip severed on a roll that looked like it came from a grocery store not a good French roll. Now the Ruben which I love and try every place we go if they have it on the menu it would rate as the worst or close to it worst I have ever had, it was burned black, maybe at the outside an inch thick including the bread not like your normal Ruben that is two inches thick and yes I should have sent it back but already disappointed didn't want to wait again for a less than mediocre Ruben. I won't say stay away as I think the place will improve with time and yes this summer when visiting Poulsbo on our boat we will give a try again in hopes things have changed. read more

Yup, you want a 50's diner adorned with the checkered tiles and red booths you got it. Also clearly a kid friendly haunt (full of the wee ones). Great for these things but the food. Hmmm.. Not so much...it is typical diner fare, but the toast was not toasted and soggy, the hashed browns not crispy, the Benedicts were drowning in sauce....even after I threw in a life raft and pulled out my Benedict stack from one dish to rescue it, I tried CPR but it was too late.... The omelet my friend had (ham and cheese) was mostly an onion omelet... So yeah. Not really what I'd hoped. The server was nice....i guess this leaves us environment and people = good, food = edible yet soggy mess. read more

After writing my previous review for Green Light Diner, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the owner of Green Light Diner takes all of these reviews to heart. They replied to my previous review and I was glad to find out after speaking with the owner this evening on the phone that he could see that I was not being critical in my previous review, but posting honest feedback that they might be able to use as an educational tool for their employee's to learn from. I informed him that I live out of state, but I do visit at least twice a year and I look forward to coming in again when I come back in December over the holidays. Nice roomy place for a little diner. The food was excellent! The salads were fresh and the blt was loaded with bacon and fresh veg. My daughter ordered a chicken sandwich and we also got a side of beer battered onion rings that were sooo good! I would have given more stars but... they need to work on the service. We were in on a Saturday afternoon, we knew we would have to wait to be seated. After being seated we waited and waited for a server. Finally we asked if we had a server haha. They promptly sent one over. She was friendly. We noticed tables next to us were waiting for their food and overheard comments of how long it was taking. Our food finally came but the drink we ordered didn't show up until half way through the meal. A group of workers were standing around yacking at the front bar which was odd considering how many people were in the place and the lack of service was not due to not enough servers! Seriously, the breakfast I had there today was easily the best breakfast I've eaten in 20 years. Awesome. I'm dead serious. The flavor, quality, preparation and serving size were all just " The Best". The service was equally great, The Best, and thus, this little dinner has instantly become my favorite restaurant.
