We always loved Greenwood Restaurant and have been going as a family for years, now reopened under new ownership by a wonderful lady who used to work there for the previous owner and its just as delicious as ever but now they are offering fresh homemade tamales that are some of the best I've ever had anywhere and I am addicted to them. Just a fantastic Mexican meal at the Greenwood last night! Margaritas are perfection as were the tamales,,elotes, al pastor burrito, taco salad, and custom chilaquiles. Today was my first time ordering from here. I ordered a pork and a chicken tamale, a steak breakfast burrito, and French toast and sausage for my son. The food all had good flavor! The steak was a little dry and so was the chicken in the tamale. But overall the flavor was there! I'll have to go try them in person because everything is better when you dine in! read more

I agree with past posts, it doesn't look like much but the food, atmosphere, and service are wonderful! We have tried every entree, appetizer, and dessert in the place and have enjoyed each and every one! The margaritas are awesome! The sangria? Wow! Veggie tamale? Amazing! Nachos? Wonderful! Blink and you'll miss it. It's tucked away in a small strip mall. Parking close by the restaurant entrance can be challenging. There are a few spaces in front of the restaurant and a few more in back. If it's packed, park at the Walgreen's next door. The food is nothing fancy, but it's very good for what you're getting. Breakfast items, sandwiches, a daily special, soup. Basic. But for what it is, it's all good. On our first visit, my wife and I had breakfast. I ordered a Western Omelette. She had pancakes and eggs. And we split an order of ham. The waitress was funny, friendly, and cute. She did a great job keeping the coffee cups topped off and delivered our food fast and hot. Customer pictures (hundreds of 'em) adorn the walls. This is a family-friendly diner that's great if you want a quick, tasty meal. Cash only. It keeps the prices down! If you live in the area and you have never been here, you have been missing out! My wife and I discovered Greenwood a few years ago, since then we haven't been anywhere else for a Saturday or Sunday diner breakfast or lunch. The family that runs Greenwood is fantastic. They are extremely proud of their business, and they treat their customers with extreme love and attention. The food is basic diner fare. No bells and whistles. Bacon and eggs is bacon and eggs. Pancakes are pancakes. The coffee is coffee. No frills. But it is always done just right. The hashbrowns are homemade; not frozen shreds out of a bag. And the price is amazing. My wife and I usually walk out with our coffee buzz, stomachs full, and ready for the day for around 20 bucks INCLUDING THE TIP. No fancy decor and no crazy frills on the food. Great place. We've been going here for years. I don't know why I haven't reviewed it before, but it's a terrific family-owned business. The breakfast menu is solid and delicious. It's reasonably priced (but cash only) with big portions (my husband and I always split the omelet). The folks are so friendly and remember us even though we only come once every couple of months. The cook and I'm going to assume owner came over and welcomed us and made us feel right at home. I'd been wanting to swing in here for a few months since I saw it out of the corner of my eye...it's tucked away. OMG, hesitated for weeks to stop in and try it glad i finally did, omg the food is spectacular and the owner is a very classy, warm and accommodating lady who explains everything on the menu and make no mistake it's all great. Corn on the Cob to die for, tamales are homemade and the best i've ever had, oh homemade chips and salsa wonderful, can't tell you about the great tacos, too good to be true. Inside is spotless and comfortable, some remodeling going on but does not interfere with the dining experience. My husband loves Pozole, so we decided to give it a try. I wanted -scrambled eggs with chorizo tacos-did not get it, got scrambled eggs and chorizo on the side. Was told cook could not make it. My entry was cold. My husband enjoyed the pozole soup. Our server was very slow, and she told us she was new and apologized. We went back 2 weeks later again, for Pozole and bacon and eggs. My eggs were cold; I noticed our server does not get our food as soon as the chef makes it and no one else picks it up to bring to our table-that is why the food is not warm when you get it. One of the servers kept touching her face, hair, etc., but did not wash her hands at ALL-little disgusting. Ok decided to pls hubby and went again. It was beyond slow, took a while for our server to take our order. 4 more customers came in and they waited for a long time. The server watches the chef cook instead of going to the tables to take orders, more coffee, etc. One customer got up left his food on the table and told the person at the register he waited a long time to order, then got his food and it was cold. He left everything on the table paid (which I cannot believe he did) and walked out. Two other tables complained about their wait time and AGAIN my food was cold. AND to add salt to the wound a couple walked in with their dog-not a guide dog, not a service dog-a small dog they let walk on the table, dog hair, saliva etc all over the table. No one said a word as to no pets allowed in restaurant. How healthy is that??? I will not go back after this visit-really disgusting and very disappointed! read more

A nice local diner with great customer service and fresh made to order food at a VERY reasonable price. Before 11 a.m. they have eggs, bacon or sausage, hash brown (which they're known for) and toast for a little over $5. There's nothing fancy about this place high is fine cause it's not suppose to be. It's a neighborhood diner with warm friendly feel with staff that seems to be working there for years. You go there for great inexpensive food and support the non chain restaurant. read more

Small place you might miss if driving by on Greenwood Road. We came in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and were immediately seated outside. Servers were friendly and food (skillets) was solid. Took a bit long to get the food and toast was undercooked, but overall, a good experience. read more

Waited by the door for 10 minutes and no one spoke to us. Finally my wife went to speak to someone and they said maybe another 15 minutes. TUCKED away in a discreet corner, nothing yelling at you to stop. But I Implore you to do so. Such an old school retro non fancy diner with serious good eats. We desired breakfast this morning , and were Craving Steak and Eggs LET ME TELL YOU , this Skirt steak, Seasoned with Greek spices was Cooked to tender Perfection! You needed no steak sauce. Don't dare to ruin this delectable offering. The real sliced breakfast potatoes held crunchy bits of wonder and the eggs were super fresh and Expertly prepared. The owner , always on premise, said hello and shared a few words wanting to assure our satisfaction. Let me just say , leave the fancy to others. Dive in here, enjoy the real, discover the flavor. Writing a review from a couple of my tips...This restaurant is the go to place for the greasy spoon. I say that in a good way. A place that holds off from the commercialism, serves up hot coffee, good diner food, and allows one to keep from denting the wallet. This is a no frills, eatery, complete with booths, requisite counter seats and a wall plastered with pictures of patrons young and old and in between. The place is family owned and operated. Matriarchal service with a smile while patriarchal grilling ensues behind the counter for all to see. The locals breakfast with the 5-0 and on one recent visit, young college kids, home for the holidays, came in from a long night of partying. Order the specials for the day or eat an omelet or a milk shake all made to order. Food served quick and hot on diner style plates. Coffee always served hot and my cup was never missing it's joe. Other quick tips: *Cash only **Daily papers can be found at the counter. ***Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. ***Check the times of operation (6Am-2pm) *****Couple of easy parking spots in front, but signage is clear regarding spots for laundromat and floral shop next door. I love old time breakfast spots like this. There is, truly, nothing fancy here. The most expensive menu item is like, $8. You'd be hard pressed to go more than $10 a person, which is good, bc it's cash only. They have really old fashioned omelets and hashbrowns-- just fried up potatoes, soft in spots and crispy in others, and omelets that are human appetite sized (as in, not the monstrosity you see someplaces!) with a nice amount of fillings. The burgers and sandwiches are also pretty good-- no fancy toppings, just a classic burger on a bun. The servers were great, and it seems like many of the customers are regulars. The decor has been updated which was much needed, The breakfast menu has a Mexican flare to it and what we both ordered was very good. The staff was courteous and attentive. Perfect, I used to live down the street, and the food kept me coming back. Nice and simple menu, and great people surrounding you. You see people that have been coming back for more than 10 years and you'll realize why when you sit and eat the food. There isn't a giant menu that makes it hard when your ordering, it's nice and simple and easy to decide. There is a definite sense of pride when you walk into Greenwood Restaurant, you know the food always will be great because there's pride put into your food. Definitely an old school diner feel! Location & Ambiance: Greenwood Restaurant is definitely a small place. Its tucked away in the back corner of an old looking strip of buildings. The ambiance of the little diner makes it feel unique and different from your regular egg harbor or other big breakfast place. Food: As you can expect it is a very diner experience and quality. Thats definitely not a bad things, because its inexpensive and the food tastes good! Don't go in expecting a fine dining experience and you will have a great time! Service & Staff: The staff was very nice and kind. This was a big plus, and it the old school family feel that I would expect out of my visit at Greenwood Restaurant! Overall, Greenwood Restaurant was a great little place to stop by and im glad I made the trip out to Glenview to have breakfast! The reviews of the Greenwood Restaurant are spot on. Good, not great food. Awesome atmosphere, perfect people and good ol' fashioned home town service. I've been going to this place for the past 20 years with my dad who is now a regular & on a first name basis with the owner. I'd stick w/ the basics when ordering food, for example, if you ask for cheese w/ your eggs expect a slice of american cheese to be slapped on your eggs and then dished on the plate. Hash browns are top notch & I usually go back and forth w/ pancakes, waffles or french toast. Also remember cash only, limited group seating so you'll have to split up into close proximity booths, limited parking up front but plenty in Walgreen's lot short walk down the way and they have 1 baby seat and it might be the first one ever made. read more

What a great little breakfast nook, tucked away in a nondescript retail space in Glenview. It's a classic breakfast restaurant layout with booths and swivel stools along a counter in front of the grille. Tons of people probably drive right past this place every day and miss it; that's a shame because this place serves up a classic American breakfast menu at prices that make you think it was the mid-90s. I usually get the steak and eggs, which is always delicious, perfectly cooked, filling and very reasonably priced. I've had the Denver omelette as well and it was great, too! The coffee is decent, which is nice since some restaurants like this make pretty poor coffee. The cooks know how to make these reliable breakfast standbys, and watching them knock out orders with dispatch reminds me of back when I doing the same job at a very similar type of place years ago. The staff are very friendly, service is fast even when it's busy and all I can say is if you are in the area and looking for a local place for a quality breakfast that won't make you cry when the waitress brings the check, this is the place to go! The one drawback is the parking: there's just space for a few cars in front and a small parking space in back. BEYOND FANTASTIC is how I'd rate the Greenwood Grill. Starting with a big welcome and smile from the waitress when we entered the door, she couldn't have been more concerned about our every need. The complimentary chips/salsa tasted like no other chips I've ever had. They were thin and still warm our waitress told us they just made them an hour earlier. I had the fish tacos which were served on a unique double layered semi soft shell. The shells were crispy and about 1/2 the size of a regular soft or hard shell but they didn't fall apart like a traditional shell nor were they hard like a poker chip type of shell. Almost like a "Slider" sized taco shell which I've never seen before. The fish was delicious and the "fixings" on top were absolutely delicious. Very unique and spectacular every little bit of a hidden gem. We'll be going back for soon. read more
