It's been at least 15 years since I've been to a Grimaldi's location, so when I was at the Kiln a few weeks ago and saw Grimaldi's across the street I made a mental note to try it out next time around. Well, fate delivered as my son had a birthday party at the escape room right next to the Kiln and Grimaldi's, so my wife and I had ourselves a lunch date. There was a 30min wait which was fine and gave us time to wander the shops for a bit. Once inside and seated I noticed the place is quite small and the tables were very close together. The waitresses kept rubbing elbows with me as they walked by between tables...must be a nightmare to serve people in here. Luckily the noise level wasn't too bad and I was able to converse with my wife. I downloaded the app and made an account to get a free appetizer, so we got the antipasto. It was a plate of mozzarella, peppers, two kinds of olives and salami. The bread came on another plate. All the ingredients were fresh and it was tasty. We split 'The Duo' pizza which was pesto + tomato sauce and pepperoni + sausage. I love pesto pizza and theirs did not disappoint. The crust was sturdy enough to hold up the slice but thin enough to have a moderate crunch and not be too doughy and filling. The pizza makers must have it down to a science because 30s too long or 30s too short in the oven would ruin the crust. We both had a pleasant lunch and the food was above average. No real issues with our first adventure here. I suspect though when this place is full at peak lunch or dinner hours it's difficult to hear and move around. Thanks Grimaldi's SanTan for the enjoyable experience.

First time at Grimaldi's Pizza for lunch. Located across from our meeting location at the Kiln. Ordered a salad and large pizza. Both the pizza and salad were tasty. The pizza was thin crust. Service was excellent. Ambience was what I would expect in a pizza place. All good here!

We love Grimaldi's Chicago style pizza. There's just something about their sauce that makes me addicted. A delicious thin crust, addictive sauce finished off in a wood fire oven always leaves me wanting more. I have to say the restaurant could be a bit larger to accommodate customers during peak time, but it's in the Santan mall area so they are not able to expand the existing building unless another business near them was to move out. When you enter the restaurant you get an old school Chicago style feeling with enhancements like brick walls and the wood fire pizza oven. The oven is the focal point when you walk into the restaurant. It's visible from the seating area and they make your pizza right in front of you. Off to the right there's a large bar with plenty of seating and during the nice months, they have the garage door rolled up so you can enjoy the beautiful weather. There's also patio seating. When we arrived around 7:30 PM on a Monday night, it was approximately half full. We were seated at an odd table that was near a small pillar by the front door. After dodging a few pizzas from staff on their way out to the patio, I requested to move to one of the other open tables in a lower traffic area. On this trip, we ordered the Mediterranean Salad which came with romain lettuce, tomatoes, red, onions, feta cheese, and their house made vinaigrette. I always ask for extra vinaigrette because I love to dip my crust in it. It is uniquely delicious. There's something about their emulsification process that ensures the dressing doesn't separate. The salad is available in small or large. The small was plenty of food for my husband and I with some leftover to take home. Next time we will get the dressing on the side so we can take it home. Definitely enough salad to feed 3 to 4 people. For our pizza selection we did their seasonal pizza that was recommended to us by our FANTASTIC server Maddie. She said it's her favorite seasonal pizza and she waits all year for it. Wow she was right. It was scrumptious. It came with traditional sauce and pesto sauce. Topped with cheese, pepperoni, and thinly sliced spicy Italian cup sausage. We also ordered Mike's Honey Hot pizza. I love the combination of pepperoni with Mike's Honey Hot drizzle on top. It is my go to when we order Grimaldi's, but I have to say the duo as long as it's available will be my go to instead. I do feel like they charge for anything extra you order. For example, if you wanted Mike's honey hot drizzled on any pizza it's two dollars a side of ranch is an extra charge so there are lots of extra charges, but we still love this pizza parlor!

My friends and I tried out this Grimaldi's location today for lunch. We ordered the Tuscan Veggie Pizza and added grilled chicken. It did not disappoint!! Very delicious and cooked to perfection The service was outstanding from Gabby, who was cheerful and took good care of us!! We enjoyed the Peach, Strawberry, and Cactus Pear Margaritas. Definitely recommend these!! The ambiance is nice. A relaxing feel with nice seating. I will recommend this place to our friends as well as take our out of town guests here for a fun night out!!

We have been a few times a year since moving to AZ 2016. This time 2/7 they just didn't seem to be firing on all cylinders other than us being seated immediately. The restaurant was about full. We have been at the San Tan Mall location many times where there were long wait times. Not this particular day. Our server was very good and kept checking on us and our order. However, many of the tables were waiting extremely long times for their food despite pizza constantly coming out of the brick oven (we could see every pizza coming out of the oven and being cut). The pizza was hot, fresh and tasted great once we received it.

The new Duo Pizza. Loved it!!

The pizza is sone of the best in the area. Ive always found The service to be friendly and prompt. My family loves coming here. If I gad one complaint it's that it gets too popular and can get real busy. Expect wait times of 30min to an hour on weekends and some evenings if you walk in and do not call ahead.

This lady there is so beautiful and we took picture with her and the pizzas good but the lady made the experience 5 stars

We've been dreaming about this place since we left. We got the bruschetta trio and the Italian Hero pizza. Literally SOOOO good. Reminded us so much of Italy with a little American twist on it. Seriously so delicious! We will 100% be going back when we visit Gilbert again! The service was great and the ambiance is very cool! Feels like you're in a restaurant in New York City!

We had an amazing experience and got a pepperoni pizza. We asked for it to be a little more done and it was PERFECT! Service was prompt. We were in and out quickly. They give the kids dough to play with instead of crayons and paper. They had fun building things and creating letters. Super Convenient shopping right there as well! Definitely recommend!

Mia greeted us right away. She explained my birthday rewards and answered all questions. We placed our order and of course my daughter and I were so happy with our cheese pizza! Thank you!!

Always a fantastic choice. All locations! I just moved to this side of town though, and I'm so happy that this location stands up like the rest. Great food, great wine, amazing service. I recommend going before 3pm and after 6pm for those sensitive to coal oven smells (kinda like sulfur).

NOT GARLIC KNOTS

BRING. THE. GARLIC. KNOTS. BACK. Please. They were the only reason I decided to come to Grimaldi's tonight and I almost left when I found out they weren't on the menu anymore. The only reason I stayed was because it was pretty late and Grimaldi's was one of the only places still open. (The pizza's pretty good too, but still)

Why is that whenever you go here there are tables open but they tell you it is a 20 to 30 minute wait!!

Ask the Community - Grimaldi's Pizzeria

When did Grimaldi's open the San Tan Village location in Gilbert, AZ?

I believe it opened when the mall opened or shortly thereafter.

Is their patio dog-friendly?

He usually gets a plain pie (pizza with cheese), which he says is great, and I have had several different kinds of pizza during our visits to Sal's and each one has been amazing - plus, they have garlic powder at each of the tables. The calamari and tiramisu are also fantastic!! The service is always great - our servers are consistently friendly and helpful. The place is super cute and homey and can accommodate both big and small parties. It's a good thing that Sal's is 20 minutes from us, or else we would probably be here at least 3 times a week, something that would do considerable damage to both of our waistlines.

She immediately told us the kitchen would be closing in 10 minutes (we arrived at 7:19 and they close at 8), which already made the experience feel a bit rushed. We ordered a deep dish pepperoni and sausage pizza, a Caesar salad, fries, and water. The salad and fries came out quickly and were good, but we waited until 7:52 for the pizza. During that time, several staff members including what seemed to be a manager, were loudly yelling back and forth across the restaurant about staffing and schedules. With no music or TV volume, it was impossible not to hear, and it felt very unprofessional. Meanwhile, our water glasses sat empty. I had to ask three separate times for refills, and the third time I actually had to get up and find our server at the bar, where she was sitting, still discussing the schedule. When the pizza finally arrived, it was delicious. But basic things like Parmesan and pepper weren't offered. I had to flag someone down to ask. And even though we'd just received our food, the lights on the patio were turned off while we were eating, and we were brought a box very quickly, which felt like a not-so-subtle hint to leave. Overall, the food was good, but the customer service and atmosphere really took away from what should have been a nice birthday dinner for my daughter. Very disappointing experience.

Ultimately I chose the Mesa store because it was the original and I wanted to see Mesa. We started with a basic garlic cheese bread appetizer and it was great. The calamari was tempting but we'll save that for next time. Wife ordered fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and I ordered the usual Chicken Parmesan which came with a side of pasta. It was actually a harder choice than usual because I walked thru the restaurant before I ordered and so many dishes looked good, as did the pizza. But I went with the usual. Let's start with the wife, which truly speaks to the five stars because she frankly doesn't love Italian food. She eats it when I beg. And she loved it. She actually proactively mentioned she wanted to go back. That's like 7 stars right there it's so abnormal. I agree with her. The chicken parm was fantastic. Amazing. To top it off, our server was great and when I mentioned we were new to the area and it was our first trip she was so nice telling us the history of the original and the other stores, and the manager later stopped by to continue that conversation as the server told her we were new. I mentioned that I live closer to the Scottsdale store, and she said it's the same food and I'll like it just as much. I'll have a hard time deciding which shop to return to - it might be worth the drive to the original just for the ambiance, but I'll give the other a try soon because it was just that good! 5 stars. Or 7 if you ask my wife.
