This place rocks the Hawaiian plate lunches you can find in the 702! While they've got numerous types of good plate lunches out go to is the dynamite chicken katsu. What makes this stand out from the rest is the wasabi, sriracha and mayo plus whatever else they've mixed into their secret sauce on top rocks our world. It comes with a big portion of nicely crisp tender chicken with a heaping scoops of rice and we opt for the mac salad every time although you can sub for a green salad. The side of kim chi also has a good flavor twist that seems to be citrusy with a good kick. The service is order at the counter and they call your name/number when it's ready. The inside is nice and love the artwork, graphics and pictures lining the walls. Most people seem to get it to go but the place gets packed at the busy points of the day with several tables and bench seating along the window. Just writing makes me want to go back for more. The food is decent, their crab potato salad was different and good. The place is small but cool. I was a little annoyed that the chicken plate I was interested in was $16 and the steak plate was $18 so I figured I'd try half and half and even if it cost me the $18 for the more expensive plate even though I'm not getting the full steak plate, I would have been ok with that but for some reason it is $20 dollars. If I could leave zero stars I would. We pre-ordered 2 trays of food for pickup at 4:15pm. They didn't have it ready until 5:33pm. So many people ordered and received their order while we were waiting. This is the second time this has happened with pre-ordering food so maybe it's just faster to order and wait because then they won't forget your order. I was randomly craving meat jun, and the only place that I could think of was Grinds 2 Da Max! So I took that 30 min drive just to satisfy my craving, and it sure did hit the spot!! I will say the dining area doesn't seem to have the AC working so it is hot as hell in there and i'd avoid eating inside. Despite the rush the food was on a different level. Came out hot and fresh and extremely delicious. The spices and glazed toppings uniquely brought variety of flavors. I must of ordered the wrong things for my first visit, because my food was just okay and that's being polite, I ordered a few things to try: the mini fried chicken, Loco Moco, Lau Lau, and the kalua nachos, a musbai, and two drinks- which came out to $72. Granted the musabi was $4 which I hate ordering because that's the exact price for a can of spam, but my kid loves it. The friend chicken wasn't mind blowing, it, nothing to come back for- now the loco moco wasn't hitting either- the gravy was thick and not much flavor, the meat was a good portion, but the flavorless gravy made this dish disappointing- which my kid ordered, so ended up eating most of the basic fried chicken. The Lau Lau, taro leaf was good, the meat inside was thick and fatty- the kalua Pork nachos was the everyone's favorite the meat was good with the sauce, and the wonton chips were a lil different then we're use to- we were glad to have rice from the other entrees to eat it with. I finally got to try this place and let me tell you, super worth it! My friends go here all the time so I decided to add it to my long list of places to try. It is located on Rainbow and Russell, so if you live in the Southwest area definitely stop by and dine in. The restaurant is a decent size and super clean. I noticed there weren't a lot of tables that accommodate for big parties but this one picnic table that four of us were able to fit in. The staff was super friendly and helpful with recommendations! I ordered one of their popular dishes called Dynamite Chicken Katsu with a side of their delicious potato salad. I got the regular size, which the only difference between a small and regular is the rice servings (regular 2 scoops, small 1 scoop). So my hair stylist has been telling me about this place. The hours are 11am to 6pm most days. Days like Wednesday & Thursdays they may close 4pm. We were in, no wait on a Thursday at 2pm. This really is the best place to get some homey, authentic tasting Hawaiian food Love the layout. Spray paint art to the right of the beach & their logo, turf to the left with some picnic style tables. It felt homey. We had the chance to speak to the owner! There is so much love they place into prepping their food. Sauces and sides home made on top of their entrees. Their menu has some pictures so it helped us pick out our order. Husband & I both got The 2 combination plate (just add up both the individual items from their combo menu to get the total price). He had the lemon butter garlic shrimp with shoyu poke (4oz) - boy did they pack on both the garlic & butter. So tasty. The shrimp were big, deveined & still had the shell & tail on to soak up the flavor. Poke was fresh, homey, & legit authentic Hawaiian poke. I had the garlic chicken & spicy masago poke. The chicken had nice crisp skin on the outside & the tender middle. It was so juicy and they also had a whole lotta garlic! No need for sauces. It was so flavorful. My spicy masago had the perfect kick & just as fresh as the shoyu poke. We both picked out the crab potato salad for our side. I was expecting a little more crab flavor, but it was still good & it went well with the kimchi on the side too. Wow what a place. I love the food here and have nearly tried the whole menu. Every person I take here LOVES it. Their dynamite katsu is a killer as well as the squid luau. They also have a rare ahi Katsura that delicious as well. Each one of their poke has fresh fish and is the classic Hawaiian style. It's not the Americanized one with edamame. Their poke platter is a must just for the great price point ($55) and you get 4 lbs of poke. Their ginger poke is a particular favorite and different from the normal varieties. I've had their chili, garlic chicken, fried noodles before at previous parties and really enjoyed them. The chili, in particular, I liked because it was brainless and was very tasty -- and I'm not a "chili person." The workers are always so nice and accommodating.
