Find a spot that is popular with what are now labeled "Hipsters and Millennials." You don't want to stand out. For some reason I've decoded that in this vector the word Aliens has a meaning that makes people more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. This is some great coffee, and the worker droids pretend to be nice to you. Location is a perpetual service dog to the Metro. Beyond that, those of us that own Suicide machines, have to "park." I have walked by this place for years as I made my way into the NoHo Red Line station. I finally went inside and the loft-like space is inviting for a cup of coffee or a meal. The coffee is organic and strong plus the menu is inviting. The bagel and lox look fabulous (I love a good spread). There are plenty of plugs for the writer in you. Stopped in this place for a quick bite with my mom. Although we had missed that the order came with cheese, they were very quick to remake it. Food is really good and a nice amount of space (both inside and out) to work. Make sure to get receipt if you would like the wifi and bathroom code. read more

I'm a fan of GroundWorks and come to this particular location every once in a while, but today the experience was so lack luster. I loooove the food and coffee usually, and it's expensive so today was a treat to myself to order here. The management and ownership should seriously consider investing more into their employees because they look and act miserable to be there. Having worked in coffee shops I know that it can be hard (the hours, the rude customers, etc) especially in a place with heavy foot traffic, so maybe I just caught an off day. Seriously was looking forward to it but I felt annoying just ordering my coffee and food. The $9 day breaker sandwich is usually good but this one tasted microwaved, so rubbery. Not a fan of this place. It's extremely overhyped for what it is: a hipster coffee shop gentrifying North Hollywood. The food isn't anything special, the coffee is subpar. Parking is almost imposible, you have to show up on a random weekday after the morning rush and before lunch. If you're looking for a really good Horchata coffee drink I'd drive down the street to Cafecito on Magnolia. Consistent quality coffee and baked goods. I've been coming here since pre-pandemic and they've been handling changes fairly well. They do seem to be slightly understaffed, however that has not affected the food/drink quality. Do expect slightly longer waiting times if you are coming at peak hours (ie mid morning on a weekend). My point is that due to this failed relationship; I was immersed in coffee culture on a whole new level and haven't judged coffee and coffee shops the same ever since. EVERYONE and their mother knows about Groundwork Coffee and, in fact, their LA headquarters and Roastery are located in the Noho Arts District. Now, Noho also has the most recent addition to their LA coffee shops. I've watched the restoration project of the 1890s train depot building at the Metro in the Noho Arts District for quite some time and was pleased when I saw the sign that a Groundwork Coffee shop would open within the structure. I am sure glad it did because this is THE coolest, rad, killer, whatever descriptor adjective- slang you like to use; coffee shop currently in LA. From the exterior, patrons may experience a slight difficulty with figuring out how to enter the coffee shop as it sticks to the appearance of a train station and although there are several walk ways; there is only one barn-sized door on the Orange Line Metro bus side of the station. You will be welcomed to a step back into time in terms of exposed beans, rustic accents, hardwood floors, and high ceilings mixed with a Northwest coffee vibe. This Groundwork Coffee is seriously amazing! It's so historic and yet trendy/hip. Perfect for the hipsters and yet spacious and quiet for the readers and laptop workers. The shop features the main counter area with some tables, a large upstairs seating area with several tables of various sizes, and an outdoor patio area. The surrounding coffee shops in the area are all tiny with limited seating so Groundwork certainly nixed that issue and came in first place. Groundwork is known for their organic offerings, locally roasted beans, and pluses like almond, hemp, soy, or house-made cashew milk. They have all the standard coffee drinks while upping the ante with Mexican Mochas, espresso milkshakes, and affrogatos. Hungry? Groundwork also serves amazing dishes like Avocado toast or Poached Eggs for breakfast and salads, sandwiches, and wraps for later in the day. I highly recommend the Cold Brew. I am obsessed with Cold Brew and know a good Cold Brew. Groundwork, it is! They truly have the best coffee! I'm not that big on their Mexican Mocha but it is just a personal preference as the quality is still great and evident. Service at this location is rather decent. Yes, the staff seemed to have that stuck-up artsy air but they also welcomed us immediately when we walked in and were patient while we browsed the menu. Not to mention, our drinks were ready quickly, at the perfect temperatures, and the latte art here is top-notch! They probably partake in the competitions... Biggest qualm? The Groundwork bathroom is a communal restroom (you need the code to get in) located on the side of the building (so you have to leave the shop and walk outside). It is a rather large room with a single toilet and a urinal. As a female picky with restrooms... it scared the heck out of me and luckily as I live minutes away walking distance; I just waited until I got him. Definitely not a good bathroom situation! At the end of the day this Groundwork Coffee is absolutely stunning in architectural charm and is not only a great addition to North Hollywood (I'm already obsessed with it); but to LA in general. Groundwork Coffee in Noho is recommended even for those outside of the direct vicinity as a destination stop. The shop is lovely and we all know Groundwork coffee is the best in the coffee world. Was visiting family in the valley and ordered ahead for pick-up. The breakfast burritos were bomb! There's a red siracha inspired sauce and a salsa they give you with the burrito, they were both great, I really loved the siracha inspired one! My husband added bacon to his burrito, and said he loved that they didn't chop the bacon into tiny mushy bits, it was a generous amount of crispy bacon strips. The food was ready right on time, and our coffees were hot as well. Such a cool location. Parking is tough though. I paid for a nitro cold brew; the nitro ran out. I asked the barista/cashier if he needed to change the nitrogen tank (whatever it's called). He didn't answer me instead filled the 3/4 of what was not filled with regular cold brew. I asked him again, did the nitrogen run out? He replied, "yeah, but I filled the rest with cold brew, that's what it is, and see it has some nitro." Look. I shouldn't have to explain the logic to this person, and I'm not going to now. The fact is it cost more for a nitro. If it's out, TELL ME. I'll get something else, but refund me my money.... My question is, why not just take the two minutes to change the tank?? Honestly, I've been coming here for a while now but the last 2 months the vibe has completely changed. The baristas are pretty rude now for no reason... I used to make conversation with everyone but now I'm either ignored or met with attitude when I ask how their day is. And with the food, the portions have drastically decreased. I order the same thing pretty much every time and it was half of what I usually get. As someone who's worked in cafes before, I can imagine it might be a management issue or that morale is low for probably a lot of reasons we aren't aware of... but I'm just ordering my coffee and asking how your day is. I stopped in to Groundwork for some coffee and some breakfast. I had the daybreak sandwich and a medium oat milk latte with an extra shot. When I got my drink they had accidentally made it with regular milk, but to be fair it is difficult to hear with masks and the plexiglass shield. I was excited to try this place, given the rustic /old train station exterior. I should have known when they were out of nonfat milk I should have left for Starbucks right then. I don't mind alternate milk, but when I asked if I still had to pay for it (given they were out of regular milk) it was an immediate yes. My husband's drink came out almost immediately but I was still waiting 10+ mins later, after several people behind me were served. Located in a huge open space at the restored NoHo Historic Train Depot right between the Red and Orange Metro lines on the corner of Lankershim and Chandler. It's situated in a large spacious location with tons of seating indoor and outdoor with a lovely rustic feel. A great spot to jump off the metro to grab a cup of joe or a bite to eat. They also roast their own coffee beans just down the street. They have an extensive menu of coffee, breakfast, sandwich and salad options, cold drinks like juices, whole or grinded beans and a variety of coffee filter gadgets to buy. I got their Vietnamese iced coffee and it was perfect to start my day. Not too sweet and just right. They offer a variety of milk options for your drink like organic milk, almond, hemp, soy, and even cashew milk. Everyone was very friendly and sweet. Parking in the lot shared with transit patrons or metered on the street. Conveniently right off the Metro Orange or Red line if you travel by public transportation. read more

I came today and the staff was really rude, I said hey how are you doing and they didn't even respond to me, just looked at me judgingly which didn't make sense. I ordered two short rib sandwiches for me and my friend and they were so small. I couldn't believe it, what made it worse is that there was hair in both sandwiches, will they may want to write a review is that the sandwiches $14! No sandwich that's $14 should be able to fit in the small part of the palm of your hand. I know taxes have gone up and so they have to find a way to make their margin but this is insane. I've had Groundwork Coffee 6 days in a row and I don't intend on stopping anytime soon. Their daybreaker sandwich is the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Their coffee is amazing. I personally love the nitro cold brew and get it every time. It's very strong in caffeine! My girlfriend loves their Latte and breakfast tacos. She says they are the best breakfast tacos she's ever had. It's nice to have a place with amazing food and amazing coffee. It's usually one or the other and this place just has it all figured out. A few more comments: - I'm considering getting a tattoo of their logo on my forehead because it's just that good. - If I were homeless, I would live in their dumpster and eat all the scraps. - If I had to choose between this daybreaker sandwich and my girlfriend.... It is very refreshing to find such a unique, hipster and old fashioned looking venue nowadays. It is located by a train station and looks like an old police station. There are plenty of seating areas both inside and outside. I love how the inside area is very warm and not like other freezing coffee shops where you have to leave after 20 minutes of freezing. The old style, room temperature and the vibe make it a perfect comfy place for studying/working/creating and being productive overall. I tried ordering their Avocado Toast but they said they did not have avocados at that time. Everything else I looked at/wanted to try had avocados in them, so I ended up getting Bitches Brew Short Ribs and my friend got Bagel & Lox. The food was good, but I am still disappointed that they did not have avocados. :( We went there on a Sunday around 12:30pm. Businesses like this should know better that a lot of people come in for Sunday brunches/lunches and meals with avocados are in high demand. It does not make sense to me why they were not supplied with enough avocados. Plus, there was a farmer's market right across the street and the avocados shortage could have been easily fixed. On the other note, I absolutely loved their Vietnamese coffee! :) Moreover, parking seems to be a problem around there especially on the weekends. There are some metered and free street parkings around the block but last time I was there, we had to drive around couple of blocks for 15 minutes until a spot became available. I asked to use the bathroom and was denied because staff said they had already locked it for the day. I politely asked "can't you just unlock it?" to which they replied "Nah I don't want to" It was 15 minutes till close. I was a paying customer. Absolutely ridiculous, not to mention illegal for an establishment that serves food to deny the customers a bathroom. I won't be back to this location again. They take their coffee seriously here at the old train station! I had a friend who worked here as a roaster and suggested we give it a try. I loved the setting of this old train station and enjoyed my coffee. The entrance is faced away from the street and towards the orangeline. Once you enter the shop, stand in line to order. The cashier was helpful in directing me to great choices and friendly. Food is delivered to your table as you take a number. I ordered the avocado toast and it was very tasty, seasoned just right with the salty cojita cheese. Yum! You bus your spot when you leave. Coffee is picked up at the counter. They love good coffee here. There is only one area for sugar and creamer near the entrance. Parking: This is right next to the Redline and Orangeline stops so parking is hot or miss. We were lucky to get a spot right in front at a metered space. Atmosphere: I loved how they kept the feeling of a turn of the century train station, the floors and building look original. My second visit here am honestly upset. The Venice coffee $4 was burnt, had to get a change. The chai tea $5 was just purely milk even when it was exchanged to a matcha drink it still tasted like pure milk. And the service was bad. They were not apologetic and only acknowledged us when we asked despite no other customers there. This occurred on 5/6/19 between 1:00-3:00pm My first visit was great! Adorable spot that looks like a train station from the outdoors. I believe it once was. It is is located near the metro and the signs don't scream 'groundwork' so you can get a bit lost. The inside decor is so lovely, with an extremely rustic feel with the interior design completely of antique tables, and furniture. Tables set with a clear vase and fresh flowers. They have food, and organic coffee that is delicious. The baristas are wonderful and fast. What more can you want?
