Gave one of their matcha drinks a try and it was severely disappointing. It was essentially a full cup of ice with almond milk. I couldn't determine whether there was even a glimmer of matcha or cinnamon like the menu suggested, so I was confused why I ordered a cup of almond milk for $10, not including tip. When I asked the cashier if it was possible to add a bit more matcha, she said I would have to pay extra and that this is the amount of matcha that the recipe calls for. I can't even surmise how a recipe marketed as a "matcha" product would barely have enough matcha powder in it to shade it green -- the drink was all white with little specks of green. Even if the recipe "calls" for an 'X' amount of matcha, the barista should have done her due diligence to make the drink right. Other coffee shops let you know that if you aren't satisfied with your drink, then they will make adjustments to make you happy. This didn't happen at all. Yet I'm not sure why there are so many people here content with subpar service and half-baked drinks. I wouldn't come back here again. read more

I came here on good reviews on the chai latte. It's not the kind of spicy chai I was hoping for like when coffee manufactory was open a year or so ago, but it's more like a burning sensation in the throat. It was slightly sweeter than what I'm used to and probably would ask them for a little bit more oat milk to mask the sweetness. What I didn't ask which I usually do is whether it was a concentrate they buy or they make it from scratch. It was slight bitter at the end, so possibly real tea? Not sure. The food is very great I got a matcha and breakfast tacos but when I entered I noticed I wasn't very welcomed, the man working there has an attitude for some reason and when he noticed I didn't tip ( I only didn't because he was being rude) he shrugged at me like as if I am required to or something. I was ambulating along Larchmont on a beautiful Saturday September afternoon when met with a craving for an Americano. My mask was several blocks away in my car (there's something about clear blue skies, warm temps, and a soft breeze that militates against the fear & loathing so essential to Covid Authoritarianism). So, not wanting to breach the No Mask, No Service rule of this fine establishment, I rang them up to see about ordering sidewalk service. I believe it was Daniel who picked up with great enthusiasm and friendliness. He took my order and, seeing me standing right outside with my bare naked face hanging out, immediately emerged with a fresh new, complimentary blue/white mask and welcomed me in with continued friendliness and enthusiasm. I've been here three times since lockdown ended and indoor/outdoor dining rules have loosened up a bit in LA. All three times I've been disappointed by the quality of service provided. I know we're still mid-pandemic and these are trying times. But getting a simple order wrong three consecutive times says a lot about this place. First time they messed up my coffee, I didn't even bring it up because whatever, incompetence is everywhere and I don't have the energy to get worked up about it. The second time, I made the order using their online system and I made 200% sure to specify that I get syrup + milk for the coffee. The server brings it out black. I followed the server back inside and approached the counter to ask for the syrup and milk that I ordered. The Asian employee with long hair got incredibly agitated with me and said (with THAT tone we all know), "We're kind of slammed here." Like, that's not my fault though- is it? I understand. It's brunch hour, it's busy, we're all masked and annoyed. Anyway, I was handed the sugar and milk so I walked away. The third time, which has finally inspired me to leave this review, I ordered inside because I really, really, REALLY wanted them to get it right this time for once. The same Asian employee with the long hair takes my order. Repeats it back to me, confirms "two iced americanos - one black and one with syrup and half & half" to my face, takes my money and tip. Moments later, the server brings out two black coffee cups. I ask which one is sweetened. She goes, "Uh- I don't know." BA-DUM-TSSS. Why am I not surprised? I follow the server back inside (deja vu much?) and as I wait for the server to fix the problem, the same Asian employee goes, "Make sure you tell us beforehand - you know, because of COVID." I told him, "I did, when I ordered it with syrup and milk." He goes, "Oh, I didn't hear you." Like...??? YOU LITERALLY READ IT BACK TO ME WORD PER WORD, "WITH SYRUP AND HALF AND HALF." WHAT DO YOU MEAN. The saddest part is that I will have to return to this place because it is one of my mother's favorite brunch spots and I love my mother dearly. She loves their food, which - to be fair - is delicious and is the only reason they're getting one star and not the negative five I want to give. I doubt our routines will change though, even with this review. I will keep ordering sweetened coffee, for her, and they'll probably keep getting it wrong. I'll keep asking them to fix it and they'll keep blaming it back on me like, "We're busy (so you should understand)" and "We didn't hear you (so you should understand)." But as soon as my mother gets over their avocado toast, I'll be done with this joke of a cafe forever. I assume the time will come sooner than later, since avocado toast isn't even hard to find elsewhere. So TLDR: Unless you're forced to come back for your mother who deserves the best, don't waste your money here. 3.5 the first time I came here all I remember was how unwelcoming the employee who took my order was. It's as if I was bothering her, she served no purpose other than to make me feel like I was doing her a disservice by being present. Today I walked in and the gentlemen and lady were pleasant. But nothing like the kind of greeting you would get at a Philz coffee. One thing I dislike is they don't make ordering a pour over easy like at Intelligentsia or other coffee shops where they show you clearly what they have for you to select from. Instead we played the game let me ask you 13 questions to arrive to an answer that could have been solved if you just put more thought into what your customers needs and wants are. Ok so the coffee! I got their black magic pour over and it was smooth and velvety! Very nice coffee, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I don't feel very welcome here but the coffee was good! Fan of their cold brew and friendly service! Nitro cold brew is even smoother, slightly "thicker," and a nice variation to the classic cold brew. Appreciate the consistency in quality at this location and that almond milk is available to add in to your coffee as you please (at the self serve counter) with no additional charge. Was not a fan of their homemade cashew milk (weirdly chunky consistency and blah flavor) or their matcha (literally zero matcha flavor). It's a nice study/work spot, but have found that the Wifi is often spotty, unfortunately. read more

The staff here is EXCELLENT! The most friendly staff in Larchmont...the local crowd is TOUGH to work with I know from experience! The breakfast burrito is to die for. The coffee is exquisite. The wait is short! What more do you want in a coffee shop? Don't take your anger out on the restaurant worker. Do you have to be impatient and complain and act like everyone is on your time ? NO!!!! Then, after taking a sip of my classic cold brew and a bite of my short rib breakfast burrito, that bad taste went away and I was quite pleased. Portion size: (4) nothing too crazy. Just your average sized burrito with no extras on the side, but it is very filling. Price: (3) a breakfast burrito and coffee will never be "worth" $20, but this is average price for the area Quality: (5) so good. You can taste the quality in the burrito. You get two side condiments: a red pepper salsa, which is light and doesn't add too much flavor and a chunky salsa, which I couldn't get enough of. The coffee wasn't too acidic and had notes of chocolate, it was amazing. Service: (4) you'll get your average counter service. A friendly cashier taking your order and when eating in they'll bring the food over to you. They'll even grab the tray when you've finished and want to hang around a bit longer. This is an upscale coffee shop though, so it will get crowded and you might have to wait in a bit of a line and not be able to get seating. read more

Yelp has the hours wrong. They close at 3:40. According to the rude lady behind the plexiglass fortress in the shop, they can't manage a cortado when closing time is just 20 minutes away. I loved coming here to work and grab a drink on a Sunday afternoon! The shop has got a decent amount of seating, and has outlets spread along the wall, which is a HUGE plus for me. They had a nice rotation of classic jazz music rolling too - big big fan. Lots of natural light, great music, ample space, a great afternoon spot. On Sunday afternoons, parking at the nearby public parking lot is free till 5pm. It's just a quick walk from there to Groundwork, so you don't have to worry about paying for or searching for that one spot! My light iced mocha was just a little strong for me - I felt a bit jittery after drinking it. But it did taste nice and rich. My pumpkin bread with chocolate chips was also quite good. I love this coffee shop. I came here because I love Larchmont and I needed a place to do some work. The coffee is great! So smooth and just good coffee! Can't go wrong with groundwork! The place is very nice to study or have groups. I like the thick tables and the chairs are not so uncomfortable. Wi-fi is also reasonable. Great place to study. I also love the atmosphere. FIX THE DOOR!!! What an awful experience to listen to that banging door every 20 seconds. It's been going on for probably months now so why haven't the owners addressed this? PUMPKIN SPICE COLD BREW 4.5/5: Just the right amount of sweetness without feeling like I'm drinking a dessert. Smooth. Delicious. Highly recommend. I knocked off 1/2 a star for the paper straw. This Groundwork doesn't feel like a chain coffee shop, and that's what I love about it. We frequent this spot in the mornings to get our daily caffeine fix. Their coffee and drinks are all really good, I recommend the beehive matcha if matcha's your thing (or even if it's not). The service is always pretty quick and all the baristas are friendly. A great place to bring your laptop or book and hang out for awhile. With both indoor and outdoor seating, you'll definitely find a spot to claim. I've ordered avocado toast here before and I wasn't a huge fan of it (small portion for the price), but my boyfriend is a big fan of their breakfast burrito. I would give five stars if it wasn't for her bad attitude *To- Staff Manager* I literally come to this place every morning to order 2drinks, bottle of cold brew and their pastries. I've never had a bad experience with customer service until this morning. Cashier/ Barista named Miranda P. (Blonde hair) gave a horrible stares and attitude as if I wasn't welcomed at this cafe. I repeated twice what my drinks were and saw it on receipt that order was wrong, then I politely informed her what I've ordered. She smirked and simply said with an attitude with no apologies "I didn't hear it!" I was somewhat disturbed by her facial expression and her attitude but tried ignoring it assuming she has a bad morning. What got me really upset was when I asked her which drink is vanilla latte since two drinks were same sizes and had same cups. She smirked again and said "there's V here!" Her putting "V" letter in the cup was underneath the cup sleeve which I wasn't able to see which drink is what. Not sure what her issue is but I do not deserve to be treated like this when I come to this place every morning with polite gestures to all staffs. I love this cozy location of Groundwork Coffee. It's the perfect place to stop and grab coffee when shopping and walking around Larchmont Village. I also love that it has plenty of seating inside and outside, so you can also stay and hang out a while. The coffee is also really good. I was in the area and excited to try this place for the first time. It was a disappointment but not for reasons you'd expect. The cold brew and matcha were good, but the lids didn't fit on the cups. I spilled my drink multiple times down my shirt and my hands were so sticky. I finally realized that the lids fit so poorly that the liquid was leaking between the rim of the cup and the lid since it didn't seal whatsoever. Second, the avocado toast wasn't toasted (it was soft bread) and had red pepper jam all over it. I hate red peppers and wouldn't have ordered it had I known. It was so strong and sweet and the toast was covered in it. It didn't make any sense flavor-wise with the corn kernels and overall Mexican influence on the rest of the toast. The warm hard boiled egg sitting on top was also weird. Overall, I'd come back for the coffee and matcha again because it was definitely tasty, but they really need to fix their lid situation. I just got home and I'm sticky, mine and my boyfriends shirts are both stained, and I'm very disappointed. read more
