Highly recommend for any occasion, events, birthday parties, weddings etc. Their breakfast buffet is 10/10: every with is so tasty, homely and comforting. We enjoyed a lot. Daily non veg combo (100/10): We've had this so many times it's literally a saviour for us on busy weekdays or weekends. For $16 they give rice, roti pacchadi, pappu, chicken fry and chicken curry. It's just the best and most economical meal in Bay Area. The taste is the best. We all love it and have it for 2 times. Even my toddler loves their food and enjoys every single time. Their catering is what stands out for us. Catering: now this is the best party. We ordered catering here for my husbands birthday party and they have exceeded our expectations. We do a lot of parties and tried many restaurants but this has been the best hands down. The quantity is over the roof. We ordered for 30 people and easily gave enough for 60 people. This is one of my boyfriend's favorite places to grab an affordable lunch at and I can see why. Cheap eats, lots of seating, and a decent amount of buffet items. When we were there, there was a consistent flow of customers and in and out so you can tell that they're a community favorite. We were given water bottles and I loved going to back to get more mango lassi. Delicious stuff. They also have tea and coffee that you can mix and customize yourself. For the buffet area, there was a various amount of carbs (rice and biryani), curries (veggie and with different meats), veggie and meat dishes, very thoroughly sauced and seasoned, and some dessert foods too. I will be honest, I went in blind and I don't know much of this cuisine but I tried a little bit of everything to get an idea. Some things were unexpectedly a bit dry, others very mush, some things were sour when I didn't think they'd be and I'm not a fan of bone in meat, so that was a skip for me on some fronts. It is filling, even with trying a bit of everything, but I couldn't find that many favorites of everything I tried. Saw the Sunday buffet menu and my palate was stimulated, so we went. There was no one, except for me and my company when we arrived but crowd slowly came in. They had a lot of selection for even non-meat eaters, although I was eyeing the lamb keema biryani, goat curry and natukodi curry. I found the goat curry a little salty, but my company said natukodi was the salty one. Other than that, the food was okay. I liked their onion pakora. They also had dessert on their buffet, and my favorite is the fruit custard. I did go back a few times for their mango lassi and tea. The staff were all nice. My friends and I went to GumaGumalu after calling two other South Indian restaurants for idli and dosa (yes!! you would think that these are available however, both the places we called did not have this for an evening). We were pleasantly surprised with the service, the table hosts were very polite and nice, and they clarified every question we had about the menu. We ordered an Idli-vada- masala dosa combo (it came with peanut chutney, sweet green ginger chutney, and we requested for the masala to be placed on the side). It did not come with sambar. We also ordered a puri Choley combo - choley was really good!!! And lastly, we ordered Ragi Sankati with eggplant korma (the korma gravy has peanuts). For beverages, we ordered mango lassi and coffee (I asked for a strong coffee with less milk). The food was good, tasty. I made a tiny suggestion to the table host about the choice of chutney and she was very receptive with a smile, she appreciated feedback, and agreed that peanut allergies is something to be mindful about - more points earned right there for customer service!!! :)) The decor is functional, it's a clean place, and eating utensils are good and clean, service staff wear hairnets. GumaGumalu is a South Indian restaurant that serves Raagi Sankati during the week in Fremont, CA. The menu is diverse, the food is flavorful, the prices are reasonable and the service is good. The place has a casual and comfortable ambiance which is great for a big group or family outing. The onion dosa was a good size and was served with 3 authentic chutneys but the onion was raw - I'd rate it a 7/10. The Andhra Chicken curry was flavorful but a bit salty which was the case for the raagi sankati as well. I'd rate both an 8.5/10. The nutella dosa wasn't really sweet but it wasn't really savory - it was unique but didn't taste great. I'd rate it a 5/10. There's also homemade sweets packed for a la carte purchase. Just had lunch buffet at GumaGumalu. I was very disappointed with my visit to GumaGumalu. The lunch buffet cost $20, but the food quality was terrible and absolutely not worth the price. They claim to offer 30 different items, but most of them were bland, poorly prepared, and clearly added just to boost the count--not for taste or variety. Service was equally bad. There were no refills offered, and staff seemed indifferent to customers. Overall, it felt like a complete waste of money and time. Found this place through Nextdoor, google and Facebook. I frequent the 99 Ranch in this plaza and consistently see Indian families walking in and out of this restaurant. Many folks highly recommend this place as they say it is super authentic South Indian flavors and vibe. Others in my party rate this place as 1 out of 5 stars in comparison to other Bay Area Indian restaurants and buffets due to the lack of assortment and specifically no tandoori chicken (I do not consume poultry so this did not affect me.). FOOD: - buffet = $14.99 per person - spicy and salty... every dish had the same flavor profile no matter what is in the curry... - only one dessert that was some sort of greenish rice soup (I stray away as I'm allergic to coconuts and I prefer not to waste food as well as take that risk) - no fruits, no salad - found it strange that you have to explicitly tell the waitress you want naan (on their website, they have 3 kinds: plain, butter, garlic) - they do have a variety of spices in powder and paste form - found it very very very odd of experiencing the first Indian buffet ever where they don't give you a basket of 4 pieces of naan (one naan cut into 4) but instead the waitress takes it out of a metal dish with lid and throws it on your plate with her bare hands... - the naan was the highlight though. We have been here a few times trying different dishes every time. As a vegetarian, I have found it to be ehh okay! My husband on the other hand, who eats chicken likes this place. There are many vegetarian options here, nothing too impressive though. Maybe it might just be me, but most of the things I have tried here were too spicy (eg. Biryani, Curries). Cheese Uttapam was good but I have definitely had better Uttapams than that. I liked Cauliflower Manchurian here, but again that too was quite hot. People here are friendly and welcoming. Although there were extensive non-veg options, this review is about vegetarian options. 4 appetizers, 3 Veggie Curries, Rotis, 3 desserts, 3 rice options, raita, and yogurt with pappadum. We ordered their newly introduced Garlic Naan too, and it was amazing. All the vegetarian options were tasty. Samosa Chaat, Cabbage Pakoda, Aloo Bonda (reminds me of vada), Crispy Babycorn. Baigan Veggie, Vegetable Korma, Gongura Daal. Jackfruit rice, mint rice, and plain rice. Gulab Jamun, Custurd, and Laddu. I did a take out also and the chicken dum was great (wife reviewed) and veggie dum was also great. not very greasy and the salan was also good. Over all a great experience. Have always wanted to try this place since I moved to Fremont. Just for the name itself, because it sounds funny, and my kid loved saying it! Anyway. Went for the Sankranti/Pongal special breakfast buffet last weekend, and it was pretty good! Unlimited refills on a Thali plate basically. Everything tasted great. The best items in particular were: Bobbatlu (puran poli) with the perfect amount of coconut filling and sweetness, Vada that was small and crispy, Upma, Poori Masala, Rava Kesari also with a perfect sweetness. Other items like Idli, Dosa, and Pulihora were also good and standard. If I had to criticize one thing, that would be the Pongal which could have been softer/more melt in the mouth type. Special mention to the peanut chutney which tasted amazing though! Service was good and fast. We were seated immediately and food came out within 10mins. There was also a super cute tea/coffee selfserve station, with the wall being painted like a roadside tea vendor. Nothing makes an Indian happier than free refills of tea/coffee. My dad had one cup before and one after breakfast. Price was reasonable too, at $14.99 per person, for the amount of food that was provided, we were so full that we skipped lunch. So technically it's $15 for two meals hahaha. Overall, I would return to taste other items. We got the vegetarian thali for dinner. Quantities are very less and there are not a lot of items on the thali. But everything had an authentic homemade taste. The mango pickle was perfectly tangy, the beans fry were surprisingly tasty and the okra pulusu tasted exactly like something you would find in a South Indian home kitchen. There are inconsistencies in-terms of the temperature of the food across the items. The fried fritter appetizer was cold while the rest were warm. Honest Review of GumaGumalu I went to this place with my friends for the buffet. The food was good -- no complaints there. But the experience was completely ruined by what happened when we were leaving. After paying the bill and walking out, a young guy came running after us, loudly yelling that we didn't pay the bill -- as if we were trying to dine and dash. Seriously? He shouted in front of everyone like we were thieves. When we showed him the bill, he said, "Oh, the gratuity wasn't included," and then had the nerve to claim it's a regular mistake their staff makes. No apology. No courtesy. Just pure arrogance -- and then he casually dropped that he's the owner of the place. If that's true, it says everything about the place. First, don't accuse your customers in public without verifying. Second, don't expect tips if you're too lazy to train your staff to add it properly. And third -- maybe take a basic business or customer service course before calling yourself an "owner." WON'T BE GOING BACK HERE. EVER. AND I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE, NO MATTER HOW DECENT THE FOOD IS. THERE ARE PLENTY OF INDIAN RESTAURANTS IN THE BAY AREA WITH BETTER FOOD -- AND PROFESSIONAL, RESPECTFUL MANAGEMENT. After a morning Mission Peak hike GumaGumalu was our spot to rest and devour their unlimited breakfast combo platter. Finding parking wasn't a tough ask as there were plenty to pick from though upon entering the restaurant it looked pretty pack for a morning brunch/breakfast. We were seated within no time and the host clearly knew that we were in for the combo platter :) . It took a bit to get those platters out to us though it was well worth the wait. Dosa , poori, some upma, pongal, rava et al to sate your appetite and leave you craving for more. We did order a refill for a few of these items on the platter and kept going till we essentially couldn't take it anymore. The process of refill was a little slow and killed a bit of our appetite though given the volume of folks that were being served such things are bound to happen. I would still rate them a 5 on 5 given the food they serve was top notch and definitely worth making a stop for. Neat and kempt toilet area definitely adds to the rating as well along with the area inside the restaurant being generally clean. read more

Lovely Indian food, great to warm you up on a brisk day. They are located in the same plaza as Arashi Ramen and the "adult" drive through coffee shop. Punugula: Andhra style street food, they are fried balls of urad dal and rice batter. They were perfectly cooked and crunchy, they came with a peanut and ginger chutney for dipping though I enjoyed them dipped in curry. You get a lot per order and though they were really well cooked they are also oily. Gongura Goat Curry: Gongura leaves have the appearance of bay leaves but are softer and edible, they add a nice tangy flavor to the spicy goat curry. Spicy and delicious, had me sweating and snotty in a good way. The goat was well cut and didn't have tiny pieces of bones you have to watch out for like at other places. Chicken Tikka Masala: My wifes fav, GumaGumalu's version is creamier with easy to eat boneless chicken. Enjoyed the taste a lot though my repeat would be the Goat Curry. Highlights - loved their goat curry and kadai chicken - perfectly priced and super duper yummy! Its a hole in the wall restaurant next to another mexican place so u might not see it immediately. We called them and ordered for takeout and food wasready in less than 25 mins :) which works great on week nights. In $49, we got- 1. Goat / lamb curry - 5/5 soooo good and i am not a red meat fan so believe me when i say itcwas different n yummy. It did have the bones in 2. Started coming here because I work closeby and I like to treat myself to an outing by myself once a paycheck. This has become my regular place now I am here about once a month, sometimes more. It's usually not super packed with dine in diners which I kinda like because I know I'll never have to struggle to get service. It is clean, has a clean restroom, they usually have something playing in the background on a big tv like bollywood or something, and I've never had something I didn't like. The restaurant need to work on the app. It takes forever to place an order because of the way they categorize it. Worst thing is that the server will not take your order. Yes, they can help you order but they will have to use your phone. They messed up on one of the vegetarian dish and put chicken in it instead. As for the food, this must be a different region of India because the flavors were very different. The dish with the goat was very gamey. The spice did not help at all. The tikka masala was only sweet and not spicy at all. The appetizers use the same type of breading and on the fry side. This bread with a pepper and some veggies in it, have no idea what's it called, was super bland and the pepper isn't even spicy. The fish was the best dish we ordered and it was a little dry and salty. We will not be coming back here. The best part of the dinner is the price. My wife and I was craving Indian. My daughter was craving dosa. Not many Indian restaurants around Fremont serve dosa. My friend recommended we give GumaGumalu a try. We took his suggestion. We arrived a little after 6pm on a Friday evening. Finding parking was no issue, as this restaurant is located in the Ranch 99 Plaza. When we walked in, we were the first customer and was greeted with a friendly smile and the lady told us to sit anywhere. We sat down and ordered our food. Daughter got her dosa and mango lassi. Wife and I got the garlic naan, andhra chicken curry, vijaywada chicken biryani, and a samosa chaat. Food arrived in a reasonable time. First came the dosa platter with 3 chutney dipping sauce. Then came the samosa chaat. Then the andrha chicken curry. Then the garlic naan. And last to arrive was the vijaywada chicken curry. Everything tasted super delicious. My daughter really enjoyed her dosa and mango lassi. My wife and I enjoyed everything else. The food portion was great. When we were full, we still had plenty of the rice and chicken curry left over to take home. The complimentary chai tea at this place has a distinct sweet after taste, even though no sugar was added. It did not taste like other chai tea from other restaurants, but was still quite nice. I really enjoyed the dosa and the garlic chutney is hands down my favorite dipping sauce. The spice level and flavor on the rest of the dish was perfect for our taste. We definitely will come back again next time we want Indian food. read more
