This place is lovely. This is a family run joint - husband, wife and brother they care and it shows in the quality of food and service. The staff were friendly and happy to discuss food options and to make suggestions. The lassi and chai - all home made with subtle hints of cardamon. The food is really good. All home made. We actually saw the raw materials being delivered ... We really enjoyed the momo - Tibetan dumplings - rich and flavorful and have a delicate sauce. We tried the chicken and pork. Next time we'll try the water buffalo ...

Main dishes - again really good - butter chicken - rich, creamy. The lamb curry was outstanding. The meat was tender but wow the sauce - really rich and delicious. Perfect for dipping the butter naan into. A lovely local addition...

No line and many open seats at 7pm on a Friday evening. I can only attribute this to the fact that there are so many good restaurants in competition nearby because the food here is bomb and reasonably priced. This place deserves more business, I recommend it especially if San Tung right next door has a giant line like usual haha.

Great service and everyone is nice inside. The food took a little longer to make which means only one thing: they actually cook it for you and not just microwave. When it came in, yup I was right, everything was freshly made. A lot of great flavors. Nothing too greasy. If I'd cook it at home (if I knew how) that's what it'd taste like. 3.5/5 stars Came here for lunch and there was no wait and no other customers in the restaurant. The inside was nicely decorated with flowers. We got the Buff Jhol Momo ($15.99), the Mixed Grill ($21.99), the Lamb Tikka Masala ($16.99), and white basmati rice ($3.99). The menu had a good variety of authentic-looking dishes, so it was fun to share these dishes family-style. The Buff Jhol Momo had an interesting flavor, and had a little bit of soup inside. The skin of the dumpling was thicker than I preferred. The meat inside lacked flavor. The Mixed Grill consisted of salmon, chicken, lamb, and shrimp. The salmon was my fave - it was so tender! The chicken was also tender and flavorful. This dish was overly salted and overburnt in my opinion, but still solid. The lamb tikka masala had a delicious and slightly sweet flavorful, but also on the salty side. The lamb pieces were tender. Overall, I enjoyed the spices and flavors of the dishes we got, but the dishes were overly salty. Solid meal for the price

Delicious food and our server (Yuzin?) was very sweet! Standouts from our meal were the buff (water buffalo) momo, ajwain paratha, and the mixed grill. Momos: delicious - the flavors were beautifully balanced and the sauce helped tie the whole dish together. Ajwain paratha - this has such an addicting crisp and chew and a lovely subtle spice to it that I ended up enjoying it plain. Mixed grill - came with chicken, lamb, salmon, and shrimp. Salmon was a tad overcooked for my liking, but everything else on the plate was cooked to perfection. Chicken and lamb were juicy and tender and I loved the smoky char from the clay oven. We will definitely need to come back to try some of their other dishes. We were the only party during dinner on a Sunday - the folks waiting outside for San Tung don't know what they're missing out on!

With all the hype next door, you might miss how much of a banger this spot is. Lamb & beef were super tender, the paneer was bursting with flavor, and both the salted and mango lassi felt homemade and delightful. Naan was fire as well. Def stopping by again; I hardly ever leave reviews, but this spot deserves it.

Quality/Quantity - Fairly simple menu, done well. One of our guests, who is a regular customer here, wanted to introduce this restaurant to our out-of-state guest. He preferred "Chinese" food. See amazing dinner review at San Wang. Today we got the following: Vegetable Pakora - I love this stuff, it makes me think I am eating healthy. Yes, it is deep fried. The dips were good also, I prefer the pesto sauce dip. Pani Puri - Interesting. Our host guest wanted to introduce this to our out-of-state guest. Pork Momo, 3 orders. - Our guests really like pork. Butter Chicken - You can almost not go wrong with this. Because we stayed so long, our guest got hungry again, so we added this and the naan to our order. Garlic Naan - Some of the best I have had, almost like a pizza garlic naan. Gulab Jamun - Dessert - Very sweet, actually too sweet for me, but everyone else liked it. It was like a donut sponge filled with sweet syrup. Also available are beers on tap, see picture. But wasn't sure if our guest drinks... Well, if you are following, the next day on our Napa trip, we found out how much he likes to drink, lol. Atmosphere - Small but beautifully decorated restaurant. See pictures. Small lounge area. Street parking, good luck. Our guest must be an extremely lucky person! For our two days together, we got the PERFECT parking places in EVERY place we visited! Single, unisex, clean, and organized bathroom. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10pm. Service - 6 stars, friendly and accommodating. We also took an extremely long lunch as we just picked up our guest from SFO and have not seen him for decades! No pressure to leave. To preface, we came after the lunch rush and left before the dinner customers came. Price - $85 + generous tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2021, we will be regular customers.

Garlic naan has never looked so good. My server, Deepak, took exception care of me during my meal. Water topped off more than a couple times. Food was delicious. If you like spicy food don't get the Medium heat. Ambiance is excellent.

There are several Indian restaurants in our neighborhood, but Gurung Kitchen is now one of my favorites. It's a little bit of a walk for us so we haven't visited despite walking past it many times on doggie walks. We got the gobi machurian to share and I got the thali with goat. The gobi machurian was okay. I prefer dry manchurian, whereas this one has a thick sauce, so it was a little soggy. But the flavor was good. My thali was great, the main reason I want to come back again. I feel like when I get thalis at other places, it's just a few items plopped together and made hours ago. This thali had small portions of 8-9 things. I liked the couple of pickled vegetables that I've never had. There was rice as well as a crispy cracker (I don't know the name). The goat curry as very flavorful. Definitely want to come back and try some other items!

Recommended spot for authentic Nepalese cuisine! A Nepalese friend suggested coming here for dinner... I've been to quite a few different Nepalese spots in SF but was able to try new & different menu items here. They have a broader menu that includes Indian dishes as well. Simple and bright interior. Limited wine selection (red or white) sold by the glass or bottle. Street parking directly in front of the building. Food: - Pork & chicken momos - delicious, some of the best I've had - Pani puri - light potato puffs with spices was my favorite app - Chatpate - first time trying this Nepalese street food... kind of like a salad with crunchy ramen noodles-like pieces, cucumbers, tomato, peas, spicy peppers etc. - Thakali thali set with chicken - very filling, comes with dal, veggies, rice, sauces & more

Parking is limited and difficult to find. The noise level is very quiet and peaceful. The decorations were pretty sick though. The ceiling had some cool lights and cutout designs. Chicken Tikka Masala (4/5): some of the chicken was a little dry, but it was super flavorful. The sauce was creamy and smooth. Every bite melted in my mouth. Food came out a bit on the slow side. Nonetheless, Gurung Kitchen has some great food. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing.

Very disappointing experience. The food was bland to the point that we had to ask for salt, and no one checked on us during the meal. Expected much better from a Nepalese restaurant.

Y'all this is my new fave Nepali restaurant hands down in the Bay Area. They got so many options, and being a Nepalese person myself, their food hits so close to home, it tastes very authentic! I rarely see jhol momos specially buff ones around here but they have it so I was extremely excited and the flavors definitely hit the spot for me. This place has one of the most authentic and amazing momos (Nepalese dumplings) in the bay area. Trust me, I have tried quite a handful of Nepalese and Himalayan restaurants...and none have ever come close to being authentic. Their other general delicacies, like dal, chicken curry, etc were on point as well..overall, a great experience! read more

One of the best Himalayan food places in SF! Came across this place by chance in Inner Sunset and I'm glad I did. The food was amazing and well balanced with medium spice. We ordered chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Chicken Tikka Masala was flavorful and went great together with delicious Garlic Naan. We also got some Chicken Chow-Mein. I loved their take on this dish since it tasted very fresh and flavorful. Definitely coming back to try their Nepalese food! The staff was very polite and friendly and general atmosphere feels very homey. read more

Daal soup was watery with hardly any lentils but lots of cilantro and peas. Goat curry was very tender with a good yet thin sauce. Scarce meat, with mainly bones and tendons. Basmati rice was a good standard. Nice server however her thumb was in the soup as she served it. read more

This place was delicious! We got the buff momo, butter chicken, butter naan, garlic naan, and mixed grilled plate. We CLEANED the dishes. My picky husband is usually hard to please. 10 hours later he still cannot stop talking about it; honestly, I can't either haha We are already talking the next time we are going to eat there again. The only downside was that we waited a LONG time for the food and it didn't appear to be busy. Didn't know what that was about. It didn't matter. We're so going back to this place. Highly recommended :) read more

The food is amazing but be wary of small portions. My friends and I were a little disappointed by the size of the plates that came but the quality was amazing. Any of the lamb dishes are amazing and I recommend being adventurous and ordering momo flavours you normally wouldnt get Also make sure you order rice separately bc it does not come with dishes. read more

This place is D E L I C I O U S! Came here by accident when San Tung was closed for Christmas and y'all there IS A JESUS -- SUCH A GEM! We ordered the samosa chaat, chicken momo chili, lamb tikka masala, garlic naan, basmati rice, and kabuli naan. All of the food was seasoned phenomenally, came out piping hot, and lasted about six seconds on the plate. Total came to just shy of $54 -- LETS DO IT AGAIN! Ordered some food for take out, and as I was holding the bag of food walking out it felt like I almost touched fire. Not kidding, the food was nice and hot which means it was freshly made and just came out of the stove. As I was driving home, the smell that was coming out from the bag was making my already grumbling stomach grumble HARDER. The aroma of this food was just AMAZING. First thing I did when I got home? RIPPED open that bag. Took my first bite of paneer tikka masala with some rice and naan. YUMMMMM so creamy and garlic naan was so garlicy. Masala was not as tangy as traditional tikka masala, but still just as tasty. I also got the bhindi masala and veggies were so fresh. However, the only thing I wish more about this spot is if they added a bit more salt? Is it just me or I felt like the dishes were missing savoriness? Regardless, the flavors of the dishes were delicious and all the spices were brought to life. Thanks for satisfying my cravings, Gurung Kitchen! read more

Bad experience with the desk staff left me with a bad taste for this place, I was in the area and placed an Ubereats order, I was at the restaurant a few minutes later, granted that I was there pretty quick, what followed was not very customer welcoming. The waiter on the cashier's desk incredibly curt and disinterested, upon arrival, there was no acknowledgement or greeting/cordiality, instead I had to eventually ask if my order was ready and the waiter barely looked and with a wave of hand asked me to wait (literally one couple in the whole restaurant apart from me). Either was just either having a bad day or has "selective" manners coz he seemed very cordial with the other patrons. I will most certainly recommend not trying them or giving them your business if you experience the same. The food was a mix, I really like the chaat item, but the noodle dish was a little bland. read more

Was seated immediately by a server. Our food came promptly as there were only a few other patrons. We came in at the tail end of the lunch special so my daughter enjoyed her full meal. She didn't prefer the spicy samosa sauce as it was plain. I loved the sweet sauce and my tofu Saag was delicious and a good size serving. Can't mess up Naan, which the lunch special came with butter Naan, and I ordered the garlic Naan. I asked for alternative milk, (lactose intolerance) for the masala Chai but they don't have any. The complimentary cucumber lemon water is perfect. We enjoyed our food. read more

The food was so good. The service was polite and the ambience was meh. But the food makes this place worth a trip. Samosa Chat It was so good, get this dish. Gobi Manchurian The cauliflower was cooked perfectly, but I didn't love the Manchurian sauce. I'd have liked to see more dark soy sauce, Chinese vinegar, spicy chilli/garlic sauce, and scallions in addition to the tomato in the Manchurian sauce. It was too much like ketchup! Naan We loved the crispy yet pillowy naan and the pudhina paratha here. Veg Jhol Momo So good. Dumpling texture and flavor was Soo good and the gazpacho like soup it came in was very satisfying. Paneer Tikka masala - really appreciated that the paneer was pan fried prior to being added to sauce, made this creamy dish even more special Chai This chai was made freshly for us and it was just perfect. Warm, spicy, slightly sweet...so good. read more

Service seemed good. Food freshness and taste below avg or poor quality. Never going back. Actually, I would not eat for free at this place. Flavorless. Ratio of ingredients out of balance. Items ordered: Gobi munchurian. - ok Momos - not freshly steamed. Filling not tasty. Paneer Tikka kabab - raw marination. That too flavorless. Served like a cold dish. Paneer kadhai - completely unacceptable. Indian breads - ok I have not eaten at ny worse place. I bet they don't have their real chef anymore. Or someone is pretending to be a chef. Just a rip off for vegetarian food. I don't know how the meat dishes taste. I don't want to find out. Ambiance was watered down. Like a self serve joint. read more

The best momos in the area hands down. I tried Momo, chicken chowmein & Alo Gobi. I love'em all. The jhol momo is hearty - comes in a nice soup/sauce base with a good kick. Food was delicious and fresh. Super friendly service and the owner was amiable to ask for the suggestions and improvements. Keep up the excellent service Gurung Kitchen team. Perhaps I ordered on a really off night. I ordered mainly appetizers - vegetable pakoras (which were not horrible, but passable), chicken soup (reasonable), Gobi Manchurian (a cauliflower dish that I was most looking forward to - it was mushy and not the tasty dish I'd been expecting). This beautiful restaurant is a hidden gem in SF. The ambience is very homely with soulful Nepali music in the background. I'm sorry to leave this review. I've dined here previously and there were no issues. This time I'm so disappointed. The host and server were extremely nice and provided great service. Was driving in the neighborhoods and noticed this new Nepalese place. I was amazed by the quality and deliciousness of everything I got as well as the super nice staff. If you're looking for the best thali and pork momo in the Bay Area, Gurung Kitchen is an absolute must-try. The flavors are next-level, with the thali offering a perfect balance of rich, aromatic curries, rice, and the kind of spice that leaves you craving more without being overwhelming. The pork momo, though, is the star of the show--tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, wrapped in a perfectly steamed dough that melts in your mouth. It's hands down the best I've had in the Bay. Came to try out this new restaurant first when they opened in November, I have come back many times since then and the food is always great well preserving the true flavors of the Himalayas. Make sure to try their delicious Mo:mo and ask the chef about their daily specials, they have some authentic Nepalese dishes off menu like their finger licking good sukuti, goat bhutan, dhedo etc. Ideally located in the heart of sunset there is still ample parking for a hassle free visit. Absolute gem! The fried chilli momos (nepalese style dumplings) were deliiiicious. And they have 'buff sukuti' too!!!!To be honest, I was a bit emotional and overwhelmed with joy when I saw 'sukuti' on the menu...and I savored EVERY piece of it with a grin on my face and nostalgia in my head. The naan and chicken tika masala we ordered were tasty too. Gurung Kitchen, you will be seeing me regularly :) read more

Totally disappointed with food I ordered chicken chowmin paneer chilli and lachha paratha.. I just take a bite of these food totally no taste at all .. no taste at all .. paneer chilli was so salty. Chowmin I never had this worst chowmin in my life.. and paratha was only 50%cooked .. I just waste my money.. read more
