Agree with some of the greedonomics and expensive comments by the other yelpers. Quality and taste are down from before, and prices are way up. Couldn't give less than 3 stars knowing how great things tasted and the amount pre-COVID. So, my stars are biased by the nostalgia of previous great taste, waiting for your # to be yelled out, watching onlookers look at your meal on the open-air tables, and fighting other patrons over seating and sauce bottles There were some weird gimmicks they used in the past, for example less food, extra for sauce, and less sides if you ordered to-go. But all of this was forgiven in the past because of the taste. Now, prices are a bit out of hand (actually outrageous lol), and the kimchi fried rice (changed protein to chicken for same price) and spicy pork (came with drink but I got the miso soup instead) aren't what they used to be. Even the upset stomach was worth it back in the heydays. At present, I would say use your sugar momma's or daddy's money elsewhere (you gonna need one of these if you eat here often!). read more

My friend Lisa and I spent a long day together at the Getty Museum of Art because we're broke college students who love fine culture, but we found that we were hungry after skulking around the galleries! So, we decided to take the bus down to the UCLA neighborhood of shopping and ended up here because we are always down for Asian food. I got the bibimbap because I love bibimbap, while Lisa got the combo plate because she likes combos? (I'm projecting here.) The bibimbap isn't like the best bibimbap I've had, but it was still filling and satiated my craving, so I can't complain. The lady who takes your order is the rudest woman I have ever met. The food has zero taste. I wanted teriyaki chicken with some vegetables and she said I could only have teriyaki chicken with rice or boiled chicken with vegetables so I order the ladder and then asked for a couple sides of teriyaki sauce which she refused to give me and the meal has absolutely no taste whatsoever. TLDR: Though unprovoked, the cashier was rude, which made it a bad experience. Parking can be tough! Usually just street parking or paid lot parking in this area. Food was decent, but overpriced. Won't be returning. Tried Gushi for the first time I got the plate with beef, kalbi, and chicken. The Kalbi was my favorite out of all the meats. It was fairly decent food, but for $21, I wouldn't purchase again. The biggest TURN OFF was service. Sometimes, when it's busy, it's understandable that service can be short, but it was NOT busy at all. When we arrived, we were the only customers. The cashier, who was an Asian lady, was very rude for no reason. For example, we had asked about the differences in the meat (eg: beef and Gushi) and she acted annoyed. She insisted she didn't know what we were talking about, even though it's on their menu. As she was placing our food in a plastic bag, we thought to ask for extra teriyaki sauce before she closed the bag. She proceeded to yell at us and say she hadn't called our number and we can request it when our number is called. She also closed the screen window at our faces? Lol. She then called our number just one minute later. She asked which sauce we wanted, then continued to give us attitude. There were other small aggressions that I won't mention here. Then, as we were walking away she yelled at me to not stand next to the pickup window as the food is being prepared. She said it made her feel like I was in a hurry??? Keep in mind, it was very cold and I didn't want to sit, so from time to time I would walk between the heaters and the pickup window to keep warm. I explained this to her. I never asked her to hurry or made it seem like we were in a rush. We were just standing there trying to stay warm. I genuinely asked her if she was ok, as I was concerned she was having a really bad day, but she just mumbled something and ignored me. Upon reading the other reviews on here, it seems like this is just their service. All the negative reviews on service seem to be associated with the same person. Looking back, it was a semi comedic experience as we'd never experienced such mean service and without provocation. 2 stars for decent food, but neither the food, service, or prices are worth returning for. read more

This is not your ordinary Teriyaki restaurant. Main stars of the show are the Kalbi (Beef short Ribs), Steak & Chicken bedded on top of fluffy rice in a large foam containers. (These foam containers...you will going to see them a lot. I mean you will see a lot outside piling like a white Mt. Everest at Gayley Ave.) I prefer the Combo plate, which comes with Steak & Chicken grilled perfectly with a side Miso salad and Kimchi. Gushi (terms of name of restaurant) is basically their version of Bulgogi, shredded beef. Its alright. But what keeps me coming back is their Teriyaki sauce. This sauce is light sweet pineapple and very addictively to eat with just plain rice. I literally pour a lake of it everytime on my plate. You mainly see crowds of UCLA students mostly Korean Americans whom miss their homemade foods made from Ajumma. They prefer plates of Kimchi fried rice, & Jap chae. A lot of students mainly go here for their Korean BBQ fix instead of grabbing an Uber to eat at Koreatown. The outside patio is very rustic. Tables and chairs are movable. Plenty of bottles soy sauce, sriracha & teriyaki sauce to go around (ask the front counter for refill the sauce.) This place can get really pack during the peak hours on weekends so be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes per order. The ladies in staff are very friendly & work diligently to make sure every order is top notch quality. For over 15 years visiting, Gushi has been a staple & I must say my favorite Teriyaki spot (not just in Westwood but in Los Angeles.) They make Korean BBQ very convenient. After passing this place multiple times while riding the Bruin Bus, I finally decided to give this place a try. I went with the Kimchi Fried Rice (and I've been back to try the Chap Chae plate as well). First, the portions are huge! The price may be daunting at first but it is worth it's value. This place is decent if you happen to be in the area (Westwood near UCLA). The portions are very large for under $15 an entree, and the food is fresh. I give it 3 stars because the food isn't memorable and not worth driving to Westwood for. Some of the dishes (like the fried rice) look way too basic and look like you could make them at home. But some of the dishes are packed with lots of ingredients like the bibibap (which comes with steamed rice, not stone crusted rice). They serve your food in to-go plastic containers, and there is only outdoor seating (no heaters). *drools* thinking about the kalbi plate... Gushi is CONVENIENT, quick, TASTY, although slightly pricey for a college meal--but kalbi is pricey anywhere. I order a kalbi (short rib) plate everytime with an extra fried egg on the side (crispy and delicious!). Usually I'll share a plate with my boyfriend and order extra kalbi on the side which gives you like 4-5 more pieces, and then the cost is like $16/ person. The kalbi is so flavorful and pretty juicy and not too thin! Good quality for its price. The plate comes with rice, and kimchi and salad which are good palette refreshers and cleansers when you feel like your heart might clog up from eating too much meat. Plate also comes with a free drink! Value!!! This place is always my go-to when i'm craving kalbi and don't wanna pay $26 at a regular korean food restaurant... the location is so convenient since it's so near school! I love Westwood Village! Being a UCLA grad, I have always gushed about the variety of good eats in Westwood. For me I've always thought it's the ideal college town. There's great dining spots for all! One place definitely worth gushing over is Gushi! Gushi is a Korean take out spot very close to campus. They have a large window front where you order from and you can either enjoy your food at the outdoor tables or take it to go. Their menu consist of plates, bowls, fried rice, ramen, yaki udon, and korean foods such as tofu soup and rice cakes. The plates come with rice, salad, kimchi and a free drink. The bowls come with steamed rice. Prices range from $9-12. I ended up getting the #4 combo plate which comes with choice of beef, chicken or gushi. I chose to get the gushi along with teriyaki chicken. For my free drink, I got the cold green tea. When the plate came out, I was quite surprised at the gigantic portion! They give a lot! It's definitely good for splitting. I actually think they give more rice than two people can even handle. Meat-wise the portion was good as well. Both meats are favorable but I preferred the gushi. Gushi is bulgogi. I really liked the sweet, thin pieces of meat. The chicken teriyaki was ok too but as time passed, the chicken got a little hard and was dry. I had to add dose more of teriyaki sauce. As for my drink, I didn't realize that cold green tea meant that they would just soak the tea bag in cold water. Hmm tea the isn't going to steep in cold water. I thought this was a little weird and I would've totally just asked for hot tea if I knew that was what they would be doing. Overall I Gushi is a place to gush about. For the price and the amount of food you get, this place is well worth it! This place is very popular with the UCLA students. However, it only has a handful of outdoor seatings. So, expect to wait in line to order and to get a seat especially during peak lunch and dinner hours. It is also wise to wear warm clothing when visiting on a cold day. Once we went through the line and order at the counter, we were given a number for picking up our order. They called out the number via the PA system once our order was ready. We found a couple of small wobbly tables for our party of 3. They sufficed except for our miso soup. Had to finish that first for fear of spilling it. Our orders came out quickly. The Kalbi ribs were excellent; so juicy and full of flavor. The Beef Steak was also good. It did seem like it was marinated with the same sauce as the Kalbi. Except for the cut, they tasted the same. So, next time, will probably just choose one. The Bi Bim Bop came with a variety of fresh vegetables which we enjoyed. However, since it was served on a plastic container, it did not have the signature crispy rice texture that I recognized in a Bi Bim Bob. All in all though, it was a good meal. I came here and got takeout for lunch one day. I was very happy with my meal! I got the gushi plate but I asked if they could switch the portion of salad and rice and they did it for me with no issue. The portion was a very good size and I felt satisfied once I finished my meal. The food did not take very long at all to cook and I got it quickly. The sauces that came with the plate were also perfect for the dish and I especially liked the spicy one. The meat was tender and my only complaint is that the meat was a bit too oily for my liking but other then that I really enjoyed my meal. read more

HUGE portions. I definitely recommend this place if you're craving Korean food and if you're looking for the best bang for your buck (college kids typically are). It's pretty much a pop-up shop with limited patio seating. When I came, there was plenty of tables available. People are always going in-and-out. I got an order of the kimchi fried rice ($10) and I was more than satisfied! I love how it comes with an egg on top..everything seems to taste better with an egg and the yolk oozing everywhere. The fried rice was filled with chopped beef and kimchi....very filling. For $10, I can't complain about the portion size. You WILL get full, no doubt. What a gem of a find! Don't the the divey appearance fool you. Super affordable menu for yummy Korean BBQ. I had the Kalbi platter, which is the beef short ribs. Meet was perfectly grilled and heaped on top of rice. It comes with a side of kimchi and small salad. Kimchi was just the way I like it, slightly fermented. Great value for just $17.
