Dropped by to pick up a quick lunch during my weekend stay in Ojai. I was craving a sandwich and saw Gustos on Yelp. I got an Italian halfsie sandwich and it was the perfect size. Would recommend just getting a half size if you don't want to be overstuffed. The sandwich itself was yummy and the bread was soft. I'm usually critical of sandwiches because it really depends on how good the bread is and this one passed for sure. There was a lot of parking and there are tables outside for seating.

I never got to try Ojai Valley Deli Cafe so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was still the same menu, people, and local favorite reputation. The menu isn't too big so it's easy to pick what you want, which can come at an advantage or disadvantage depending on how good at making decisions. I wish they had some more options, which they totally could with their ingredients! They have a fridge with some day old sandwiches for half price: I love that touch! Along with some sides and salads. Another fridge is filled with some yummy drinks and there are a few other treats spread out on the counter top. I got the veggie panini which has great flavors and the bread is so delicious with a crunch on the outside and soft bread goodness on the inside. I would have loved more veggies (besides the mixed greens) in it though. But I'm not gonna hate cause I loved it. My husband got the Italian sub which he devoured. He said it was a great one, and big enough for 2 meals. My mother in law got the chicken breast sandwich which was covered in too much aioli for her unfortunately l, so something to look out for if you aren't a fan of a drenched sandwich. I only regret not grabbing a coconut walnut cookie on the way out! Those looked delicious. The employee that took our order was very kind and helpful and it seems like a small operation because the sandwich chef would come out from the back to grab the orders and begin prep. They got our order out quickly: less than 5 minutes. In the mean time we enjoyed sitting in the new patio equipment outside enjoying the day with other Ojaians that were just as excited for their Gusto food! Ooo and I also appreciate that they put cardboard under the sandwiches when they wrap them up to keep them stout, and they hide a pickle in a bag underneath for all you pickle people :)

That prosciutto cheese sandwich is 10/10 perfection. From texture to saltiness to the cheese and the bread, so good. The lunch box is worth it too IMO, comes with cute cookies and chips. Yumm

Excellent food. Tried both lamb panini and chicken panini. I like chicken one better because of the pesto and avocado. The lamb one taste a little dryer. It's taste like roast beef sandwich. No dine in just pay at the cashier and you can either eat outside or take it home. Great place to eat after hike or bring it for hiking

Special for the day blackened chicken sandwich. Grilled chicken with a regular mayo, tomato and roasted peppers.

My favorite place to grab lunch to take back to the office, to the beach, to the park, whereva. The customer service is the epitome of what Ojai should be - friendly, honest and welcoming. My favorite is the Turkey Sandwich (try the "lunch box" to add chips & a sweet treat) however there is nothing on the menu I haven't loved. That feeling when your ma packed you a lunch that was the envy of the cafeteria? That's the vibe you get when picking one of these babies up and taking it back to work. Hit their case to see what pasta dish or salad you can grab for dinner later. 10/5 stars. read more

If you are a tourist or new in town, you must try this place. I had a chicken salad sandwich and it was divine. The service was wonderful to my 85 year old mom. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu! Perfect to pick up and take to the park for a picnic. Or eat outside and people watch! read more

The food's good, but my child's allergic to tomatoes and the staff insisted we buy a pre-made sandwich from the fridge instead of them making it fresh for us. Having to pick through the sandwich to take the tomatoes out was annoying. When you're getting rung up with the overpriced, old sandwich that's so thin since very little sprouts were added and you hear staff talking to each about how the health inspector asked them to make changes, makes you think they're not handling food properly. Only been there a couple of times and wouldn't go again. read more

Cute cafe with great food. Was perfect for taking a picnic lunch to a winery. I got the eggplant sandwich and the veggie breakfast sandwich because I couldn't decide. We needed this in town SO badly! Had the veggie panino and it was delicious, a great portion sized and reasonably priced. Can't wait to come back and try more! The guys working were very sweet and so grateful for the business. I hope they can add online ordering down the road, but for now calling in is the way to go - no wait like others were mentioning. I'm also hopeful they will add a panino with prosciutto - something I can't get anywhere in town and they seem like they know the legit stuff :) Can't wait to go back, I've heard good things about the chicken cacciatore, which is a childhood favorite. And love that they have eggplant parm, another favorite. read more

DELICIOUS!! I have been here several times and everything that I have had so far has been delicious. The eggplant parmigiana is out of this world! Even their beets were delicious. I also had the tiramisu and a cappuccino. Again, everything was so yummy. Another added bonus is the folks who run it are really lovely. I will be back again and again and again! read more

I'm so happy I stumbled on this new deli nearby my home. I have been ordering their eggplant parmigiana once or twice a week. It's the real deal. The best I've had anywhere in the valley. There offer many different kinds of lunch offerings and are opened for breakfast. Stop in and welcome them to Ojai. read more

WOW! I got the special, The ITALIAN SANDWICH was Amazing!!!! Almost had a muffuletta taste. I was just stoping by the craft store next door and stoped here by impulse. I don't know how this place gets a 4.8 rating. There's no bathroom, no ice, no indoor seating, and just a counter serving extremely ordinary sandwiches and some bottled drinks from a cold case. Pesto from a jar, aioli from a jar -- not what I call quality ingredients. read more

Had the turkey sandwich and it was amazing with super fresh ingredients including the Ciabatta bread and this amazing creamy roasted pepper, sun dried tomato creamy spread. A friend raved about The Ojai Deli Cafe, so we waited in line to order take out...Stay Away!...Not only do they serve D minus food, they also charge enormous prices for barely an appetizer. The chicken cacciatore consisted of a small drum stick and wing, two table spoons of a side salad, and 4 tablespoons of God awful mashed potatoes. Their salad's etc, were just as bad and stingy. The Italian sauces taste like they're right out of Campbell's Alphabet Soup...Horrible!!! Stay away from this place. It's an embarrassment to Ojai. read more

NEMO REVIEW: Ojai Valley Deli Cafe Well I finally tried it this evening! I love the owner! He was so sweet! I made a silly Salami joke when he told me about something not on the menu (It was a sub with lots of salami!!!) and we laughed. Other family members were there also hanging out. I wanted the tuna sandwich and it was great! Next time I will try another sandwich. My two kids LOVED. LET ME SAY IT AGAIN. LOVED the turkey sandwich on the ciabatta roll with peppers and more. They are 19 & 22 so not little ones. I asked him to make it with provolone incase the other cheese would not be their thing. Everything tasted so fresh! I have lived here almost twenty years and have seen places come & go but this one is definitely gonna stay. I'm actually going to pick up stuff on the go there also on my way to Ventura when I'm heading out sometimes. We need to support these businesses that are not just on the main drag. Everyone who came in seemed so happy to be there. I really want to support the business so I will send others there. It's next to Ben Franklins. I heard there are other yummy things to try also. WOW! A nice variety of Italian foods and some great sandwiches. I ordered the Penne Bolognese and it was delicious! A large portion for 9.99 Definitely from scratch. The owners were super friendly and they are working hard!! It took about 30 minutes to get with 3 people in line in front of me. I've waited so many years for a nice deli like this to come along in our valley. The food is excellent! I had the best tunafish sandwich I've ever had in my life here. So far, the combo pizza is A+ and craveable to the point that I've had to go back multiple times and the club sandwich is great. Till next time... hope to find more good orders to add to the list.

I don't mind paying extra for the convenience. So I knew going in the cost would be more. I ask the man behind the counter "How much for the garlic?" He looks at a paper behind the counter and says "$2.99" I said ok. I'll take two. He then immediately changes the price to $3.99. I agree. He then proceeds to ring the items up for $5.00 each. Then didn't mention it. This is not the first time it's happened to me at this location. The only reason why I caught it is because the last two times the same thing happened. Items are not priced, you ask how much they are. They tell you one price and ring up another. I realize I can contact weights and measures and what they're doing is not legal. That's just too much time and effort. They've lost my business. That simple.
