This business made it known that they are understaffed due to covid, but that did not stop them from giving me the best lunch I have ever had! We stopped in for breakfast our last day in Taos. The servers were all friendly. I had the scrambled egg tower, my husband the Brie omelette and we shared a side of bacon. Both our meals were good, and I really enjoyed the Gutiz potatoes, which are hash browns that are actually browned and not limp and white like so many other restaurant hash browns. Went for breakfast right at 8am when they opened. The door was still locked. We waited 8 minutes the I just knocked and someone finally came claiming that they thought they unlocked the entrance door. The omelet towers are overrated and the eggs had a hard consistency. The service was poor given that there weren't that many customers. We kept waiting to get the check for over 10 minutes. They only came with the check once they noticed my husband get up to leave for the bathroom. read more

Wow! I am so full and extremely satisfied! My hubby and I wanted "brunch" specifically and this place is perfect! 16oz mimosas: yes please. We were told to drive the 20 miles from Angel Fire to Taos to eat here ... and to try the chocolates. It was worth it. The front patio is charming, and the food is very flavorful. I purposefully ordered something outside my usual palate-preference - eggs and beans with spicy profile - and it didn't disappoint. The husband went more traditional for his breakfast. And said the kitchen rocked the eggs and provided lovely salsa. Too bad the jam isn't more scrumptious. This place shouldn't serve packaged Knotts single-serves. Our servers were friendly and attentive and let us sit and chat in comfort long after they cleared our plates - two thumbs up for that. I am a tea drinker... this spot has good choices and provides a French press for your loose leaf enjoyment. That alone got me happy. The decaf coffee was good for the husbands morning fix, so we are def coming back! read more

The triple latte and fresh-warm croissant with orange marmalade made my weekend. Even if the croissant was a little over-proofed, the latte was thick, rich, and hot. It almost overflowed from the cup, and was very welcome site in the area. In fact, i had a hard time finding a good Latte in Taos (pueblo area), but this helped me stop looking. This Latin-French inspired (fusion?) restaurant offers breakfast, tapas, and plain old entrees. As far as breakfast we had the Taoseno and the Eggs Benedict. Let me start off saying that the Taoseno was very good, and packed with rice, beans, garbanzos, scrambled eggs, and red sauce. Served with a warm tortilla these flavors melted together wonderfully. The tender beans with the sweet and smokey red sauce melded well, and the tortilla cut the richness of it all. It all came nearly simmering in a clay pot; a very welcome site on a cold morning. The benedict eggs would have just been pedestrian benedict eggs had they not been served in a bowl over crispy-tender potatos. The garlic - bechamel was a perfect complement and change from the traditional hollandaise sauce. It brought out the flavor of each ingredient, amplifying their flavor instead of overpowering them; and mixed with the perfect yolk running over bread and potatos and you've got a delicious morning! We stopped for breakfast on the last day of our Santa Fe/Taos vacation. So much good food on this trip, it would be hard to match. We tried Gutiz based on Yelp reviews and also recommendation from others. Super nice ambiance and food and service to match. Actually, the service stood out as superb. Very nice staff that seem to know all of the locals. Super coffee too, the best of the trip. This is what we ordered: Parisian Crepe Crepe filled with ham, brie, a touch of cheddar, Provençal Béchamel (creamy garlic sauce), onions & marinated mushrooms drizzled with yellow-chile sauce. Served with mixed green salad. Brie Omelette (I substituted Colby jack cheese) Omelette stuffed with brie, green chile & potatoes topped with diced tomato. Served with a side of Gutiz potatoes & mixed green salad. They keep a homemade yellow salsa on the table, so no need for Chohula! read more

Yummm. Gutiz is like a big, warm hug. The restaurant is deliciously, charmingly cozy. The earth-toned walls and tucked away tables make it feel more like a breakfast nook than an establishment. Everything is perfectly cooked in a way you could only expect from your mom&dad's kitchen. Things that restaurants normally mess up (unhappy scrambled eggs, dry chicken) face no fault. The Scottish sausage (whatever that may be) is spicy and gourmet, and delicious with a bite of creamy, chipotle-covered scrambled eggs. The velvety poached egg, atop a juicy forkful of peppery chicken saltado makes for a sloppy mouthful and complacent tummy. There is prickly pear lemonade- fresh and not too sweet, tinted with the flushed pink swirl of chewy pulp. There are spiced home fries, crisp and mealy, and organic coffee, freshly ground, dark and bottomless. There is what my friend describes as "the Immaculate French Toast" (and immaculate it is) -- a battered & bruleed sweet bread, with the caramelized fragrance of orange, cinnamon and mint. It's topped off with sweet fruit & sweeter, golden maple syrup. Though the bill is not as light as the french toast, it won't wipe the fuzzy smile off your face. If you wake up to find that your kitchen is too intimate and not clean enough for breakfast, here is your saving grace. The kitchen's warmth and the dishes' easy comfort will serve you well. We stopped in here after the other cafe we were planning on grabbing some food in wasn't opening for another half hour. Our server was extremely friendly, fantastic service. Unfortunately, my basic breakfast was not very good. There was a small toast debacle; and my entire meal was centered around it. Maybe I'm strange in that it's hard for me to eat over easy eggs without some sort of toast as it's vessel into my mouth. I kind of half ate the meal and half just decided to give up, as I am not the type of person to send something back twice. I find that embarrassing. My boyfriend's meal was amazing, however. And thus I know their food is generally very good. The croque madame was superb. His mint lemonade was a perfect drink to wash it all down with. While my food was not to my liking, I'm sure if I returned here and got one of the many other things on the menu, I'd love it. Great green chili sausage bowl--spicy and rich. But the Spanish tortilla (potato egg quiche) was pretty bland: it was too heavy on potatoes, and they were a bit undercooked. The $4.00 hot cocoa is kind of a joke: tastes like Swiss Miss with a sprinkle of chili. Which is actually pretty typical of the supposedly fancy hot cocoa we've tried in the Taos/Santa Fe area. The server was friendly, the Taoseno, a bean, veggie and egg concoction sure to warm both your heart and your tummy, was excellent, and the hubby's ham, eggs, and home fried potatoes made him a happy camper. The little salad on the side confounded him at first, since it isn't a breakfast food to him, but he ate it happily. The baked goods looked tempting but alas, we didn't buy anything. No one came to take my check, and I was barely acknowledged when I went up to the counter. My mother and I visited this restaurant while on a quick weekend stay in Taos. The small space has a nice, intimate, friendly atmosphere, and every table was full while we were there, so you might want to make a reservation if you plan on going for a weekend dinner. We weren't extremely hungry by the time dinner came along, so we split the puff pastry starter and an order of the paella. Both were delicious, and the perfect size for our appetite. We also split an order of the lemongrass-lime creme brulee for dessert. The flavor was fantastic, with just subtle hints of the lemongrass and lime. First off, they had the best Mexican Hot Chocolate I've ever had - and growing up in FL, and now living in West TX - that's an educated statement! The food was not only delicious, but the presentation was beautiful. Portions were perfect, not too large or small, and good for the price and given the wealth of Taos. Really delicious food in a quaint and fun setting. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich, which was tasty and not overly portioned. My kiddos had the children's chicken strips and the French toast, both of which they devoured. The highlight of the meal was, by far, the fresh French bread paired with the homemade orange marmalade. Super amazing ambiance and menu. It's a French fusion place that's affordable. I got something that had like an egg quash type thing with olive tapenade. It wasn't my favorite. I thought the egg would be fried. I didn't check menu good enough. My friend got this veggie stew that was amazing. The sencha green tea tastes funny but the dirty chai my friend had was bomb.
