This is one of my new favorite food trucks. I saw this place as I was going home and I'm glad I changed three lanes in three seconds to give it a try. Sorry to all the people I cut off... I had a conversation with the guy who actually owns the business. He was leaving to make a delivery right as I was ordering my food. He's from NYC and just moved down here. He handed me a small menu, told me that drinks would be included free in every meal starting Thursday and told me to try to Lamb Chop over Rice. Real down-to-earth young guy whose trying to make his dream happen. I like that! Glad I followed his advice on which meal to pick. They had so many choices, I didn't know which one to choose. The Lamb Chop over Rice was amazing. I'm not kidding when I say I licked my styrofoam plate clean. The lamb had a grilled reddish color and tasted as good as it looked. The cost was a little expensive ($12) but I can't say it wasn't worth it. I don't mind paying more for something that is really good and this was way beyond good. I want to try other things on the menu but I liked what I got today so much, it'll be hard to pull me away from it. Overall, it was a real positive experience and I would recommend this food truck to anyone. The wait is a little longer than others but they make every dish from scratch. All I can say is that I'm grateful that I work down the street from Gyro King! When I get a hankering for a lamb over rice plate with extra white sauce I can be there in less than 5 minutes. Of course I might have to stand in line in the heat and humidity if I don't time my visit right. But it's worth the wait. Seriously worth the wait. My only complaint is that they don't sell any other beverages than their juices. I'd love to be able to buy a bottle of water or a soda. This spot was EVERYTHING!!! So the first time I came here was Saturday. Now I don't eat gyros until I'm in New York at the spot on Christopher and Seventh. Nothing had ever compared to that place in my opinion. Until I found this place. The customer service is great. The guy is cute and extra friendly. I finally made it to gyro King after hearing so much about it! Portion size at Gyro King is pretty big. We ordered by phone for pickup and it was ready 15 minutes later. This is a food truck, so they do not have any seating! I got the chicken and rice. I asked for the sauces on the side since I hadn't tried them before. The white sauce seems to be some kind of yogurt with dried herbs, I could taste a little bit of mint with maybe another herb that I couldn't make out. The red sauce seemed like buffalo sauce with either Tabasco or just regular hot sauce - a little too much on the pungent side for me. I'm glad I got the sauces in the side because I heard they are pretty heavy handed with them. Chicken/lamb over rice is probably the singular most common meal that I have eaten in the last five years of my life, and this place serves up a really delicious take on it. The chicken and the gyro meat are both really well-seasoned, and they taste good even without the addition of the white sauce and the red sauce. The rice is really nicely textured and plays a great support role in the platters they serve. The veggies that come with the platters are good enough (gotta get that fiber). The white sauce is pretty standard, but the red sauce is actually a vinegary and not as hot kind of sauce - more like a southern hot sauce than the usual thick, ultra-spicy paste that comes with chicken over rice. Some may like it, some may not, though personally I think it goes surprisingly well with the platters. The highlight here is the massive portions that you get for the price. This place is a definite find - so thank you fellow Yelpers for leading us here. We live around the area, and we were looking for a decent food truck. We definitely found one in this. Thanks to all the fellow Yelpers that let us know its location in the Chevron, we easily found it and drove right up. We were surprised that there was a mini line, but that made sense after we ate our lunch. We got super lucky and arrived on a sunny day, so we were able to enjoy waiting outside for our food (~5 minutes) and we even dined at one of the two tables. There were literally only two though, so I would definitely be prepared to take the food home. Everyone that we saw come before and after took it with them, so maybe we were the only ones that had to wolf it down then and there. Also thanks to fellow Yelpers, we knew we wanted the combo - his with rice and mine with salad. We got a ton of good food, and we got the sauce on the side. In an epic face-off between The King vs The Guys (Halal Guys), here's the breakdown: Featuring chicken and falafel bowl. Protein: Both The King and The Guys provided well seasoned, moist and tasty chicken. +1 each. The King's falafels were dry, crumbly and overly salty, difficult to chew and swallow whereas the Guys' falafel were moist, soft and flavorful. +1 for the Guys Fiber: In the Fiber department (lettuce and other veggies), both gave a generous amount. However, the King provided romaine Lettuce, onions and cucumbers, whereas the Guys provided iceberg and tomatoes. I personally favor romaine over iceberg, +1 for the King. Carbohydrates: The King serves long grain basmati rice cooked with cumin whereas the Guys had short grain rice that is orange (I'm guessing it's turmeric or paprika). Both are very good, but I slightly prefer the cumin basmati rice due to it's fragrance and taste. +1 for the King. White Sauce: The Kings' white sauce was more on the tangy side, with notes of mint and I believe parsley, and reminded me of ranch dressing. Both white sauces were very good and really rounds out the meal, but only the Guy's white sauce really left me craving for more. +1 for the Guys. I love the fresh greens and how the cucumber adds a refreshing taste and a crunch and the lettuce are so good. I only wish that there were onions, tomatoes, or some corn. I ordered and brought it home and added a whole container full of tomatoes to it. The dish was missing some acidity and the tomatoes were a great addition to it. Other than that, it was amazing! My colleagues go to this food truck a lot since our building is right around the corner. I decided to give it a try today and ordered the chicken gyro. I think it was a #8. It was AWESOME! First things first, it's messy. But that's OK. It's so worth it!! Secondly, it is seasoned very well. The chicken and sauces on the gyro are very flavorful. YUM! And most importantly, the pita bread. Wow, it was the BEST ever! So warm, soft and fresh. How pita bread should be!! I think there were fresh herbs in the pita bread. OMG. Soooooooo delicious!! Tried something different today then I normally get the Combo Gyro with rice on the side. Omg I was dancing for joy lol. The Combination Gyro (lamb & chicken) with shredded lettuce, onions, cucumber with their white sauce and some kind of spice flavor I haven't had. It was amazing let me tell you. It was so full of meat and veggies and full of flavor. I usually get the combination over rice but I'm glad I finally tried the gyro here.The pita bread was so soft and chewy and it held all the ingredients very well. I was pretty excited to come here. I had the lamb over rice and the juice B, which was ~$13 total. The juice was pretty good. Like others have said, it's not sweet. It's also kind of "warm," if you prefer cold juices. The lamb was great--it had great "gyro" flavor. I could see cumin seeds in the rice, and although I normally hate prominent cumin flavor, this was more subtle and actually tasted delicious. My main disappointment was the lack of food. I split the box, so maybe my friend just ate more than their fair share, but the portion didn't seem to match the photos. I will say too that I've had better spicy sauces with gyros at other places, like Alwadi. The red sauce here is more akin to buffalo sauce, with a heavier kick. The white sauce was tasty, though. Maybe once I check out the other similar places my opinion will change, but for now, considering the mediterranean food I've had lately that was unexpectedly delicious, this is hovering around the average. read more

My friend was in town and we were looking for a food truck for dinner late one Saturday night. It was a toss up between Gyro King and Kabab King in the medical center area, but we decided on Gyro King. I had never had chicken and rice, New York street food style until I came and tried Gyro King. Although my friend didnt eat, I ordered the number 7 combo. The guy at the counter said they didn't have any juices since they were closing in about 10 mins. He also mentioned that the #1 and #7 are the two most popular meals and so I decided I'd stick to his recommendation. This was a huge to-go box full of deliciousness. There's plenty of lamb and a healthy dose of both red and white sauces accompanied by fresh lettuce, onions and cucumbers, the latter of which provide a nice acidity to off set heaviness of the lamb and the sauces. Service was friendly and fast. I'll be back to try the mix over rice. [UPDATE]: Okay... so returned (less than a week later) to try the lamb over rice and force my co-workers to give the gyro a spin. I forgot about getting the mix, damnit. Doesn't matter... delicious. So. Much. Food. Anyone who says this isn't enough food needs to seriously check their daily calorie consumption. tl:dr quality and flavorful food -- as good as mediterranean gets I visited this fab food truck yesterday afternoon with my mom, and at first skeptically approached the window. The owner was a bit chatty and kept on boasting about how fresh their food was, how their reviews soared, and how they were the #1 food truck in Houston. But once I tasted the food, all of his statements seemed to have been so true. We ordered the Lamb/Chicken Gyro over Rice with both sauces, a Lamb Gyro with jalapenos, and the jalapeno/orange/apple/celery premium juice. The Mixed Meat over Rice was extremely filling, and the white/spicy sauce did a very good job of complimenting both the salad and the flavorful (saffron infused?) rice that the meats were layered over. Both the chicken and the lamb meat were well-cooked and had good spicy hints. The Lamb Gyro was spicy, as asked, and it always amazes me when restaurants actually put in the effort to put in fresh jalapenos for spicy-food lovers like us. The Juice actually quite frankly surprised me. I was anticipating a gross-version of Superfood, the Odwalla drink, but the juice was actually very very fresh (no added sugar or ice) and the jalapeno gave just the right spicy tinge after drinking a predominantly apple juice. I was shocked (but not surprised) to see TWO more food trucks opened right across the street in the other gas station to try to steal some of GK's customers. I've tried the carrot + apple mix and it was very refreshing and naturally sweet. Great for a hot summer day. They're located at a gas station and typically have a lot of call-in orders or a bit of a line; there's not many people working so the food does take a while; I highly suggest ordering ahead so the long wait time doesn't ruin your experience. read more
