Crispy Chicken with Peanut Sauce
Bree B.

Fast, fresh and flavorful Thai food! I ordered the Crispy Chicken with Peanut Sauce and was planning to eat half for dinner and half for lunch tomorrow. My plan failed as I ate the entire plate for dinner! FYI-I also ordered a spice level 8 and asked for two extra chili oil sauces just in case. I didn't need to use any

Pre-COVID, my work used to have a different food truck scheduled outside for lunch every day. Haad Sai would come every other Friday and it was always the highlight of my week! I really miss those days... :( That said, this is my favorite food truck, no contest. The food itself is amazing! I will say they are very liberal on their spiciness scale. On a scale of 1-10, I normally get a 7 but for Haad Sai I stick to anywhere from 3-5. The price for the quality and quantity you receive is great, they don't try to hit you with outrageous prices. The owners are super friendly and they always make the wait fun and upbeat. Sometimes they have fun music playing on their speakers. I even hear some Kpop every now and then. ;) I also like how they give you a pop culture/super hero reference as your ticket instead of using your name. Recommendations: - Pad seew noodles with fried tofu - Panang chicken curry - Crispy chicken with peanut sauce - Thai Iced Tea - Thai Iced Coffee

Haad Sai is hands down my favorite food truck. Not only do they have good food but they have extremely reasonable prices for being a food truck and just in general! Our company hosts them around 1-2 times a month and they are the only food truck I am willing to buy from. The workers are always super nice and welcoming and are good at remember the frequent customers. I always get the crispy chicken with peanut sauce and my workers really like the drunken noodles. They also have some pretty legit thai iced tea and a thai iced coffee that I've wanted to try for a while! You order and get a card with a comic book character on it. The name of the character is what is called when your food is ready. They also have a stamp card so you buy 8 dishes then you get the 9th one free! Needless to say, great value and a great deal.

Penang curry. Yummy!

This food truck comes by my work every so often and it's one of the more popular trucks for good reason. The food is good and price is not too drastic all things considered. I've had the drunken noodles and panang chicken curry. Both were tasty and I would not mind getting them again. In addition, the portion sizes were decent considering the price and being a food truck. Also, the 'ticket number' system is comically cool. They essentially give you a super hero or character, like Batman, Goku, or Zelda. This appeals to my slightly nerdy side and appeals to my nostalgia of watching these things as a kid. Anyway, I am definitely coming back to this truck when it's around!

Drunken noodles

One day I forgot to bring my lunch to work and had no ride. I searched for food trucks in San Diego and this one was conveniently a walks away from my workplace. Service is friendly and helpful. I ordered the drunken noodles (spice level 5) with chicken for $10. Each meal comes with a side of cucumber salad and your choice of either eggrolls or gyoza. I chose the gyoza. Their spice level is not Thai level so keep that in mind. I probably should have chosen level 10. I would say the meal was pretty solid. It's not the best, but it's pretty decent. $10 is a bit pricey, but it's the price you pay for the convenience of a food truck. If I was in the same situation (no lunch and no ride) I would come here again.

Panang curry. Enough for two meals.
Marcus F.

Just so that you're aware, they don't include a small thai salad and a gyoza with you order anymore. The pictures of the menu on Yelp are several years old. Panang Curry - $9 bucks. What I got was a solid brick of Panang curry and rice at a very hot temperature. It's hilarious how John C described his experience with his Panang Curry "Bad news, however, was that the sauce totally separated in the 2 minutes it took me to walk from the truck back to my desk. It left the rice swimming in a rather unappealing pool of pinkish water.".. haha I think the sauce had actually curdled because it was cooked too hot, but it was not very appetizing to look at when I got back to my office.. The Taste was good though, and it was spiced perfectly. The only problem was there was two meals worth of curry. I would have much rather of had less curry with the Thai salad and gyoza. - There was a lot of Panang Curry for that $9 bucks. - What was unappetizing was the fact they defaulted their suggested tip at 15%.. Food truck folks... Everyone else does 10%.

Crispy Chicken with Sriracha Mayo

Ok, this place is amazing! My husband and I never really eat Thai Food, but in one the Food Truck Fridays at Balboa Park this truck was one the only ones that smelled AMAZING and immediately caught our attention. I'm SO glad we chose to eat there. To start off, I have to say the service was great. Really enthusiastic cashier! He was really nice and friendly, he conversed and made jokes with us. I also love the fact that instead of calling your name or a number when your order is ready, they give you a hero or heroine (Vegeta and Merida for ex) card and then call out the characters name so you can pick up your order haha just genius! We ordered the Crispy Chicken with Sriracha Mayo to share and the Dragon Blood Drink. And OMG YOU GUYS!! So DELICIOUS!! Chicken was ACTUALLY crispy, the sriracha mayo on point and the rice?? Cooked to perfection. I'm Brazilian so I'm picky with my rice! It was a very tasty dish, spicy, crunchy, sweet. Hit all the right spots! And that drink?? Besides the stunning color, it has amazing flavor. My husband and I had never tasted dragon fruit before but that drink looked interesting on the menu, so we ordered. We did not regret it. Very refreshing, flavorful and not too sweet at all. This place has my heart and I hope to find their truck around more times.

Cream Cheese Wontons

So...the cafe at my office building has been under construction since late November...so we've had a slew of food trucks come through in the past few months and if you know me at all, I do not like food trucks. So one day, I'm craving Thai food sooooooo bad and I check the food truck schedule and sure enough, Haad Sai Thai is gonna be onsite! I think to myself, "Alright, I'll give it a shot" and really thinking to myself that this was going to be a horrible experience and terrible waste of money. Boy, was I wrong!! I purchased the Dragon's Blood $4, which is a essentially Dragonfruit juice and soooooo good!! For my appetizer, I got the Cream Cheese Wontons $6 (for 6) and for my entree I got the Garlic Chicken (level 5) for $8. I figured, Thai food always tastes great the next day, so if this was too much food, then I had lunch for the next day too. The food smelled great and I was super excited to try it. The Garlic Chicken is probably THE BEST Thai entree I've ever had - the heat of level 5 was perfect and there was sooooo much garlic...YUM! The cream cheese wontons were delicious and the Dragon's Blood was so refreshing. Needless to say, I finished everything. There were no leftovers. AND I went back down to get a Thai Iced Coffee $4, which basically kept me out of a food coma and functioning for the remainder of the work day :)

flavorless pad see ew with a baby piece of broccoli. all topped with the flavor of ground black pepper
Annamarie M.

It was lunchtime and I was starving. I ran down to this convenient food truck expecting delicious food (one, because I was hungry and all food tastes great when you're starving and two, because I ordered pad see ew, and I've never been to a place that hadn't done half decently with that dish). Today, unfortunately, was the day I was proven wrong. I ate bland noodles with slightly salty/sweet but definitely dry chicken, which was under seasoned with all possible Thai flavors but OVER seasoned with regular grounded black pepper. I was so disappointed in the waste of calories as there was absolutely no flavor (outside of black pepper) in my food, there was literally 1 tiny half bite of fried egg, and maybe 5 small Florettes of broccoli. the rest was bland, flavorless noodle. get this food truck off our rotation. if that's how they do pad see ew, I doubt the pad Thai (another hard to screw up dish) would be any better. pros none. well, the container looked reusable so that's good? cons no taste, texture or content! kilroy realty, pull this truck off the rotation! I'd rather go to spices across the street than this!

Today I had the amazing opportunity to try out their fried rice and Dragon fruit juice. I am going to start by saying that their customer service is amazing! I am a vegan and they had no problem at all when it came to accommodate my needs! This is a PLUS**** ;)) My fried rice had tofu instead of chicken! I'm not a tofu fan but the way they made my tofu was AWESOME!!! The Dragon fruit juice is to die for!!!!! Highly recommended it!!! I love their food!!!! Thank you guys for accomoditng me :))

I happen to run into this food truck at the La Mesa Food Fest Event and great run in it was. They offered a variety of items this particular evening, but this time I went for the Drunken Noodles with chicken. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#Zk6ijJDG04GHJDkBkTPwgQ) The meal came with a petite salad with peanut dressing and either an egg roll or pot sticker. I went for the pot sticker. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#XxkrKtrqJsFxUGNZ6RmruQ) The Drunken Noodles were great and arrived piping hot. The texture of the noodles were very pleasurable and had just the right amount of sauce on them. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#1rjEj5LUFcIDifFOQ8xA9w) The noodles came with a good amount of tender and tasty chicken, tender onions, some peppers and scallions. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#aCQsNSNy8MEcmIgNkrbkQg) I liked the garnish of peanuts. The side salad was great and the peanut dressing was even better, with its tasty refreshing quality. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#ietk3zWIVUNYI0ADMaA2iw) The pot sticker was good and had a good pan crisp on it. I love it when they do that. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#3dPs73an6DeHxl0U3AA0Yg) The ground pork inside had a great garlic and ginger flavor. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haad-sai-thai-food-san-diego?select=GF4eFqbghOXjs5UMyp7K9w#sKyBbtTpaNriFycAReAt0A) I liked all that came on my plate, but my favorite was the heaping pile of flat chewy noodles. I just could not get enough of them. They guys running this truck were great and had good senses of humors.. I like a great flat drunken noodle..

I had the opportunity to try their food at Food Truck Friday at Balboa Park. I got the pad seew noodles with added shrimp and lychee lemonade. Delish and filling!

I have seen this food truck at two different beer festivals at Liberty Station. The first time I passed it up and got pizza but decided to give it a shot the second time. I am so happy I tried Haad. We ordered the panang curry and the drunken noodles. Both were the perfect level of spiciness. I almost didn't want to share my noodles they were so tasty. The price is great for the portion size. The dishes range from $9-$11 I believe. We were both pretty full after sharing the two plates. There was a line but the food came out pretty quickly. Can't wait until I see this food truck again!

Moving to Kearney Mesa, the Mexican food selection is severely lacking. Yeah there's Asian culture everywhere, between H-Mart, Tokyo Central, and Zion. There's a healthy amount of local breweries and burger shops. There is only so much sushi and ramen and Korean BBQ a man can eat. Something about a simple burrito feels homely, comforting. This place is a simple food truck with a permanent address: right next to the Societe Brewing Company. Walk up to a big touch-screen, order your food, process the payment yourself, and wait. Grab a beer, sit in your car, listen for a text message when your food is ready. Simple transactions, simple but good Mexican food. No need to interact with anyone, no need to fiddle with cash or tips or whatever. I've come back three times in three weeks and am eternally grateful that this place is here. All other taquerias nearby are bland and overpriced, I highly recommend trying this place out.

My Cali was pretty solid, and came with guacamole without any extra charge which was nice. The salsas were pretty good, but I think I preferred the salsa verde. The red salsa wasn't as spicy as I hoped. Overall a good distribution, nice tortilla, and well-seasoned meat cooked on a flat top. My brother's surf & turf was similarly well-constructed. Good amount of shrimp and carne asada, not too oily, and not fishy at all. Solid structure that held its composure during the eating experience, with a nice flavor throughout both meats.

Both the burger and fries were delicious, and the server was very friendly, though it took them a minute to notice that I was there. The truck appears clean and well-lit, and they have menus both on the truck and on a stand off to the side to make it easy to see the options. My only negative is that the takeout containers are just open cardboard sort of bowls with no lid, and for a place with no seating where people are meant to take their food with them, this makes the food difficult and messy to transport. Regular takeout containers would be much more helpful. I will also say that $19 is a lot for a takeout burger (with tax and tip) however good that burger was. Definitely a splurge for me.

Another plus was my brioche toasted on both sides. The customer service was amazing, the guys were kind and efficient. Also, they played good music while I waited for my food, so another plus for that! 12/10 would highly recommend ‍
