I decided to order something I've never gotten here before and I got the taro milk tea with no ice...and it tasted absolutely horrible :( I'm so sad because the other drinks I get here are usually really freaking delicious. Got the Bo's Coffee with Taro Pudding and Honey Boba today. Boy, was I missing out. Screw the Ice Milk drinks...they're seriously lacking in flavor compared to this drink. I asked the girl at the counter what Bo's Coffee was...and I have no recollection of what she said. Something about brown sugar I think. But what I ended up with was a great coffee drink - just the right amount of bite and bitterness in the coffee without being overwhelmingly sweet, plus the Taro Pudding added an interesting component with a hint of rich, almost roasty flavor. It's definitely harder to taste the sweetness of the Honey Boba when your drink already has such a strong flavor, but I'm totally sold on this new combination - I'm never getting the Ice Milk again. Consistency though, is still lacking. Last time I got pudding in my drink, I swear over 50% of it was pure pudding - to the point where I was sick of pudding and was hunting for the actual liquid portion of my drink. My friend suggested this place to me because she knows I'm a fan of boba. The first time I was disappointed because I went to the Half and Half in San Gabriel and paid 5 bucks for tapioca milk tea that had tasted like any other milk tea I've gotten for a couple bucks less. The same friend recommended I try their iced milk with caramel, pudding, and honey boba. Much better! What I got: Iced milk with honey boba, pudding, and strawberry. 5/5 *highly recommended* The strawberry was a sweet addition! I loved it! It gave an extra sweet kick to the entire drink but it didn't take over the entire original taste of the drink. I would highly suggest this drink. I've been coming to this half and half location since it opened a couple years ago. The boba and pudding are excellent--drinks are always great. If you're short on time, I do not suggest coming here. I waited a total of 30 minutes to order and receive my drinks. When I got home yesterday, my drink was fine! (Iced milk drink with honey boba and pudding) but when my sister tasted her drink.. It was not what I ordered. I got her a milk tea with boba.. Instead we got almond milk tea with boba.. Which tasted like marscapone cherries. (We hate almond milk tea). So I came here again last night with some friends, and I just wanted to reiterate - THIS IS STILL ONE FAT ASS CUP OF BOBA. I loved their honey boba last time, I'm a huge fan of coffee jelly, and caramel is delicious. The beverage was amazing, and it seemed to get more delicious with every sip. I also had a few tastes of the egg pudding. It's delicious, but it might make the drink too rich. So there I was ordering a truckload of drinks because who knows when I'll be back here again and I need to bribe my siblings with something when I take out my card to pay and the guy goes "sorry but cash only." Unfortunately, this review is about service. The ice milk with hot honey boba would get 4.5 stars as it is still quite a unique beverage that I crave enough to drive 45 min to get. As for service, the apathetic cashier and just shy of grumpy drink makers are just the beginning. The wait regardless of whether its for placing the order or picking an already placed order is horrendous. It makes no sense that it would take over 45 min to get your order after placing. It. The boba should be made in set batches so that it doesn't run out. And last I checked, i didn't see or smell a dairy cow getting milked for this dairy beverage. Other locations are slow, but not where as close as this store. A snail would probably shake a better drink if they were sanitary and had hands and I'd wait to watch a snail shake drinks. Once you finally get your drink through the curtained window, there was no "thanks for your patience" or any indication that they were pleased to have our patronage. So all in all. Boba good. While I frequent Tea Station much more often (it's just closer to me in distance), H&H is the only place that has MILK oolong... I'm a sucker for it. H&H has stubby, wider cups. Kind of cool, and just fun to drink out of (I am victim to cool/hip things). The boba is boiled in honey, which is done at other boba places too, but for some reason, H&H boba is almost... INFUSED? with honey. It's just delicious. Sorry. I even like their ICE, half crushed, half cube-y. It ices your drink quickly but doesn't take up half the cup like some other places (ahem, Starbucks). Their milk oolong is fantastically fresh & light in flavor. Not too sweet, not too milky, and not too strong. Prices are fair. $3 for a regular size + .50 for boba. Not too shabby. I also like their Jade Oolong, which is light, too, and very easy to drink. For anyone that loves Red Bean, I highlyyy recommend their Red Bean Honey Boba Milk Drink! It tastes like that one Korean Red Bean popsicle (BB Big), but a little sweeter. I always get this drink at MP, so naturally, I got the same thing at this one. Fortunately for me, it tasted just as good as the MP location's! :) If you like strawberry milk, get the Strawberry Pudding Honey Boba Milk Drink. It tastes like sweet strawberry milk with boba & pudding. I tried their Almond Milk Tea, too, but be careful because that one is EXTREMELY sweet. It was pretty good though. Their boba is really good. I'm a fan of Half&Half, some people love it, some people hate it. I honestly just wanted to come here because I saw the cups and thought they were super cute but I found the drink to be really unique and tasty too. It was the first time I had "honey boba" and "pudding" and usually I'm not a fan of milky drinks but their drinks aren't too overwhelming for me. PARKING: You have to park behind the place, it's right next to Phoenix which is kind of annoying because of railings. WAIT: Usually it's pretty long because it takes people a while to order and then wait for them to make the drinks. ATMOSPHERE: Small and narrow. A few benches that you can sit on but not really a place to hang out and drink/eat at. DRINKS: I've only tried their most "Famous" drink but you can see a list of their most popular drinks on the board. The Iced Milk Drink with Pudding and Honey Boba is basically an icy milk blended drink with honey boba - very chewy, sweet and warm boba that adds a bit of syrup to the plain ice milk drink. The pudding is soft and thick, they put a lot but what sucks is sometimes you drink too much and all that is left is the pudding and boba at the end. I have to admit it can get a little overwhelming and sweet in the beginning but overall I'd say it's worth trying and getting. Well I tried the restaurant in San Gabriel, but I had made plans with my friend to get Half&Half in Rowland so we came here anyways. There is no seating anywhere. There are a couple of benches, but mostly people are sitting there to wait for their drinks. It's a bit faster than the one in San Gabriel, but the cups are so weird looking. They're flat and very round. They won't fit into your cup holder, but just finish it before leaving! I got the Ice Milk with Caramel, Coffee Jelly, and Honey Boba. The caramel flavor was just not there, like it was last time. The coffee jelly is pretty good. Customer service isn't amazing, but it's okay. I mean you order then get your drink - no big deal. The wait wasn't too bad when I was there at around 1, but later at around 3 when we left, there were quite a few more people ordering. It's not too bad. I had no idea there was a Half & Half location here! I have meetings at La Kaffa just a few blocks down on Colima and I usually get my boba there...but it's not that great. I'll definitely come here afterwards from now on to get my boba fix. I suggest entering the plaza through the small entrance after you pass Hanover Road, since it takes you right into the plaza. If you make a right onto Hanover, you end up having to make a left into the plaza. I was waiting for my friends and I saw someone almost rear end a car waiting to make a left into the plaza. This is a Half & Half EXPRESS location, so you're supposed to order TO GO. Why are people complaining about the lack of seating? If you want to dine in and eat, go to the San Gabriel location. Go here to grab a drink and go. The line snakes its way from the entrance by the parking lot to the other end of the store. The wait isn't too bad; they're pretty fast. Use the wait time to decide what you want to order. The decorations are quite random though...parking meter, pay phone, water pump...huh? Once you order, you get a number that they will call out as your order is ready. After seeing so many people on yelp & fb rave about this place, I bookmarked it and had to try it right away. Half & Half, you are indeed the business. Wait: I went around 12pm and there were like 4 people in line, so the wait was manageable. When the clock struck 1, however, people started piling into this place. It took about 10 minutes for them to make my drink. If you're in a hurry or are dying of thirst, this is not the place to go. Luckily for me, I had plenty of time to kill. Ambiance: Considering how small the store is + the chinese music blasting in the bg, this is not place to go to study/read/do anything that requires concentration. The setup of the store consists of mostly benches, a couple chairs, and a few small tables. This is more of a grab-and-go place where you only sit because you're waiting for your drink to be made. Food: Taro Black Milk Tea (~3) + Honey Boba (.50) + Pudding (.50) - 4/5 It didn't have the artificial purple color that most taro drinks have. The Honey Boba is a MUST. I am not a fan of boba, but the honey boba is bomb. The honey seeps into the drink, yet doesn't make it overly sweet. I'd say skip the pudding next time because it's a hassle to eat through a straw. Pudding+Boba is like a choking incident waiting to happen. It's something that I'd keep on shaved ice, not my drink. I definitely could taste the black tea, but not so much any taro flavor, but my friend said he did. Hmm... Do not confuse their milk teas with their milk drinks. Just like every other Half & Half I have been to, this location still produces the same great drinks. My go to is always the Almond Milk Black Tea with boba and pudding. Yes, the drinks can get pricey. Yes, the lines can be long. Yes, I can say with absolute certain that everyone can find a beverage that will enjoy at Half & Half.
