It's good to see a second location for Handam and they decided to expand in the Heights area. Definitely one of my favorite KBBQ places. We did a walk-in on a weekday night and didn't have to wait for a table. Spacious and modern interiors. Similiar menu as the Bellaire location. We always do the AYCE option B, also come with two appetizers as well. My favorite meats were the LA Galbi, marinated hanger steak, and the pork jowl. Meat quality was good. For the side dishes, I felt that the quality was different from the Bellaire location. Service was good. Our server was friendly. There's a small parking lot out front that gets filled up quickly. It's a decent experience, I don't suggest them for large groups however. But perhaps the Korean BBQ experience isn't my personal preference, I just prefer to have my own plate of food. Too much time os spent cooking the food and deciding which meats to order next. It also would be nice if they provided some hot chili oil or Sriracha sauce or something to give the meat a bit of a kick as some of them were a bit bland. The restaurant itself is very clean as are the restrooms. The TVs behind the bar seemed to be playing a lot of K-Pop videos. I do feel that they should have on their menu or have their servers communicate upfront to large groups that they can only split the bill 4 ways evenly, no matter who had what. I do want to highlight however their website has a VERY helpful YouTube video directing you where the free parking lot is, which is just 1 block away. It appears a tad sketchy if it's late and not many cars left, and it's not super huge, but it's an option. It's a gravel lot so be mindful if you're wearing heels or high wedges. read more

$35 AYCE KBBQ. They have a $30 option but I feel like the $5 increase is worth it since it has the better meat options. It also includes hot pot (This was different from their other location. The other one had sushi which I prefer slightly more personally). I'm usually a marinated hanger steak girl at most AYCE KBBQ but this time I was actually a marinated sirloin girl. Their marinated Kalbi contained larger diced garlic pieces which was different than other locations. In terms of banchan, it's just ok. All the usual stuff at most kbbq places. I wasn't a huge fan of any of them in particular. I like the interior vibes of this location more than the Bellaire location, but I think the parking situation at Bellaire is better. I think if I had to chose between the Bellaire and the Heights location. I would choose Bellaire just because of the sushi vs the hot pot. My friend & I came here for lunch around 11:45am and it wasn't busy so the service was quick & the food came out in a timely manner. The heights location offers hot pot versus sushi. Which it doesn't matter to me because I came for their Korean BBQ. They have a sauce station along with items for their hot pot. Here's what we've ordered. * Braised beef short ribs soup- not good tbh. While the meat was tendered it was flavorless & the broth was no better. Just sweet with no substance to it. 1/5 * LA Kaibi- so good. Pretty thick slices that were marinated and seasoned to perfection. 4.5/5 * Beef Bulgogi- not better than the Bellaire location. Lightly seasoned but tendered. 3.5/5 * Sweet garlic pork belly- surprisingly not too fatty and just enough fat. Pretty tendered and garlicky. 4/5 * Marinated pork spare ribs- loved the seasoning, marinated nicely & pretty thick as well. Quality was actually better than the other location. 4.5/5 * Salted prawns- solid. 3.5/5 * Beef belly- definitely not my favorite since it was all fat and no meat. But not bad when you dip it in salt/sesame oil. 2.5/5 What I noticed about this location is that they have maybe 2-3 less bonchons than the one on bellaire but enough to be satisfied. Way better than GEN Korean BBQ house where they give you like 4-5 of them. The grills at this locations are also good. Overall, I was satisfied. Parking can be challenging when it's busy since they have a small lot in the back and there's also street parking but very limited. Our server was nice but seems a bit shy until we spoked more to him. He was however very accommodating & checked in on us throughout our dining experience. Will I come back? We did the AYCE KBBQ and hot pot and enjoyed both. It is definitely more geared towards KBBQ. If you primarily want hot pot, I'd go elsewhere. But the hot pot was nice on the side. I did appreciate that their temperatures on both the grill and hot pot seemed to be low enough that nothing cooked super fast, which was an issue the last time I had KBBQ with hot pot elsewhere - the food cooked so fast on both I felt like I spent the entire time trying to catch up with cooking and couldn't relax. But whatever temperature they set it to was just right for us to cook both things leisurely and still be able to chat. Meats were fresh and sides were plentiful. The veggie and sauce bar for hot pot was dismal but like I said - this place really more geared towards KBBQ and hot pot is more of a side feature. The communal lot across the street is free. We had a reservation for 10 at 7PM and were seated at two adjacent tables with no issues. They don't do individual bills; it's as many bills as the number of tables you have at max I believe. The banchan was great, refills will only come if you ask. We got refills of the kimchi and fish cake often. For the two appetizers, we tried (between two tables, so four options) - Dumplings: Pretty standard, they were nice and crispy (3.5/5) - Seafood Pancake: Relatively disappointing. Too doughy and soggy (2/5) - Braised Beef Short Rib: By far the best dish there for an appetizer. Super tender and some of us liked this more than the KBBQ we were cooking. (5/5) We tried nearly every meat on the KBBQ menu. The Kalbi (especially Suwon style, a garlic rub) is quite good and not as stringy as other KBBQ spots. We also especially liked the gochujang pork jowl, a unique offering. The pork belly was also very balanced in fat. Most other things were pretty standard but I'd say you can't really go wrong. They use a good level of marinade and the charcoal allows for a smoky flavor. Service was quite good - our waitress checked back often, so even with four meats max per order we were never lacking. We got regular grill changes and I'd say the only hiccup was once when a grill change dripped some oil and burned my friend at the table. We backed off a lot after that. Also, their watermelon soju is a banger. Serves 3-4 well. It's not on the menu, but they have a complimentary dessert for the B option at one per person - little cakes with mango, strawberry, tiramisu, and mocha flavors. Before arriving, I highly recommend reviewing their website for a video showing turn by turn directions to their parking lot behind the building. The back lot was easy to find and has a sign saying it is for their restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, I was impressed with the sleek, modern design of the building. It elevated the experience. But I was most impressed with the quality of the food. For $35, you unlock all food options and get 2 appetizers for the table. We've visited the Handam location in Chinatown before, so we had a good idea of what to expect, and we weren't disappointed. We decided to go for the $35 AYCE option, which offered great value. The Banchan was plentiful and more than enough for the two of us fresh, flavorful, and a great variety that complemented the meal perfectly. I was rich, savory, and with just the right level of heat. The seafood pancake didn't wow us as much as the stew, but it was still crispy and flavorful. Service was attentive and friendly, though one of the food runners mentioned they were short-staffed, which had them running around a bit. Despite this, they handled everything smoothly, and we never felt like we were waiting long for refills or additional items. Overall, we left feeling very satisfied with the meal. The location and restaurant interior looked amazing. The parking situation was kind of difficult. There was a lot somewhat hidden a block away, but luckily we came during the day time so we were able to spot and walk to. Had it been evening it may cause some issue., Our food selection was expansive, but we did had a limit on meats and only able to order 2 main sides other than the bonchan. The marinated meats were good, but the meat quality was slightly lacking. The staff were great and came by regularly, however the restaurant was half empty. I came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my friend's birthday! Because we had a big group, we made a reservation because it does get busy. Due to the location, parking can be pretty difficult. I was able to find free parking 2 blocks behind the restaurant in a residential area and others just paid to be closer but either way, if you have a reservation, make sure to arrive early. We all ordered AYCE and I recommend getting the $35 option because the kalbi's were fantastic. In terms of the rules, everyone at the table has to order AYCE, you get 2 hours once you place your first order and you can only put in 4 orders of meat at a time. Thankfully, our waitress was very attentive and I appreciate all the staff members working super hard to feed our party of eleven people. For appetizers we got corn cheese and the seafood pancake. The corn cheese was pretty good but the seafood pancake was skippable. The banchan (side dishes) were all pretty decent and I loved the variety. As for the meat, everything tasted good but the kalbi specifically are a must get if you come. I don't think I've ever eaten so much kalbi in my life until Handam haha. Used my handam bbq giveaway at their Houston heights location for dinner! They took over the old location of Karne, another premium kbbq restaurant. There's no parking lot so you have to street park if you wish to eat here. I got their B menu, which allows you to order any meat as well as 2 appetizers. They see you up with a whole array of banchan. They have a lot but most of them are just ok. I'm a big fan of fish cakes so I just kept eating those, they refill them for free as well. For our free appetizers, we got the cheesy corn and steamed egg custard. Both of them were pretty big but you have to eat them soon or else they will go cold and not as good. They also have hotpot as an option for no additional charge. I tried the tonkotsu and spicy beef broths. For meats I also tried the beef belly and brisket and both of them were very good! I actually liked their hotpot quality. They have a station where you can grab things to throw in your hotpot but I didn't get any of them as I wanted to focus on the bbq. I also created my own sauce plate: I topped it with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic jalapeno, and ssamjang. The sauces here are pretty solid. They have charcoal grills here too which should make the meats more smoky. We started off with some bulgogi and galbi and omg that first bite of galbi was so so good. Felt not long ago I was just here at an Elite event for Karne lol (RIP), but if this place had to change to another AYCE KBBQ option in Houston, Handam would be a solid option with a good following. We opted for the $35 option as one should (You gotta get the Kalbi) - You get 2 hours on the menu, but most often that time is not enforced. You can put 4 orders at a time + all the banchan and an appetizer as well. My favorites on the night were the Kalbi and hanger steaks.. with the Octopus (surprisingly) and pork belly also a hit. The sauces paired well for me and while some people may question the meat quality as hit or miss but I'm okay with it, on par for an $35+ KBBQ chain around town. It wasn't too busy of a crowd for a Saturday. Our service was very efficient, the waitress was attentive and changed our grills as needed. We more than ordered enough for our group of 4, of course the rounds of soju and beers brought the total costs to be around $68 per person. Parking can be difficult because well, it's the heights, street parking if you're lucky or paid lots.. It definitely depends on the day and time. First meal in Houston on my latest trip to the city - I came with three friends and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! All four of us opted for the $35 AYCE price point and we ended up ordering two rounds of meat. I liked that we were able to try a larger variety of stuff than if we were just ordering a la carte. The banchan spread was great; I especially enjoyed the japchae and the salad with black sesame dressing, but the fried tofu and the sweet potato were also excellent and different from the usual side dishes on offer at AYCE KBBQ. They don't give a ton of each sauce but are always happy to provide refills, and the radish paper was great for wrapping the pork belly. For apps we chose the steamed egg and corn cheese. Both were tasty, though the corn cheese was more cheese than corn. Our first round we ordered LA kalbi, marinated hanger steak, pork belly, and spicy pork bulgogi. All these meats were great but my favorites were the marinated hanger steak and surprise standout bulgogi! Super tender and well marinated. Our second round we got more kalbi and decided to try the brisket, which was much leaner and drier than I usually expect from that cut. If I came back I'd probably want to try the beef belly next time and see if that cut is fattier & more moist. Also curious about the beef tongue! One friend and I were charged $2 each for the weakest cup of barley tea we've ever had, which was kind of disappointing -- there was no tea flavor at all and it felt like we were just drinking more ice water. Kind of felt like a waste of money at an AYCE joint. And the sesame oil + salt section of the sauce container had basically zero sesame oil aroma. We were told by our (very nice!) server that the sesame oil is diluted so it doesn't have as strong a flavor but IMO this feels like a mistake since it's such an iconic feature of the KBBQ experience. Just some food for thought, since I know this location just opened and is probably still working on consistency! Nonetheless, I quite enjoyed my dinner here. Rice was nice and chewy and for the most part the food really hit the spot. Especially like that it's a charcoal grill so the meat really gets a nice smoky char. The interior was nice and woodsy which I remember from the previous restaurant that used to be in this space. The Heights is a really convenient neighborhood to visit while I'm in town, so I'm sure I'll be back sooner or later! read more

Option A was basically three types of beef, with two of them being very similar (the thin rolled cuts) My suggestion would be to lose all the extras in option B and just have simple pricing and open up the menu. Not sure how popular pork is but might consider losing that too. Hot Pot was rather sad looking and I've had much better, so that's another one to lose. Disappointing First Visit to Handam BBQ - Heights Location I was genuinely excited to try Handam BBQ at the Heights after hearing about their recent grand opening, but unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing -- both in terms of service and food quality. To start, there's no designated parking (at least not that we saw), so we were lucky to find street parking nearby. I'd strongly reconsider coming here on a busy night after this frustrating AYCE dinner. We arrived around 6:20 PM and I asked the hostess if we could reserve a table for four at 6:45 PM. She seemed unsure -- likely because there's no clear booking system online (I had checked ahead) nor signage indicating to call ahead. Without much explanation, she stepped away to check with the manager and returned to say they could accommodate us. We stepped out to wait, partly because the front area was cramped and because of the strong weed odor wafting in from someone smoking nearby. At 6:45 PM, we returned and were told our table was being cleaned. Then a party of five walked in and was seated ahead of us. When I brought this up, the manager explained that they prioritize call-in reservations -- something the hostess failed to mention. Had I known, I could've just called while standing inside. We were eventually seated at a tight booth more suited for two. When we sat down, I noticed a hair on my plate (#2) and another dish had a food stain. The waiter promptly replaced them, and we tried to stay optimistic. We chose AYCE Menu B ($35/person) and ordered four meats. Our drinks came (minus the iced teas for our friends, which were only served after a reminder an hour later). Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. One of the banchan dishes -- the pink radish -- had a hair embedded in it (#3). It was incredibly off-putting. The manager apologized and offered us a complimentary beer (Kirin, which they then said they didn't have, #4, so we opted for Terra). The space felt overcrowded -- walkways were tight, and there was no call button for staff. They appeared understaffed as well: no water refills, one grill change (none prompted by the wait staff as offered at the Bellaire location), and plates piled up with no one clearing them. We had to wave people down just to get basic service. After our first round of meats took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, our second round never even made it to the kitchen. The server forgot entirely, despite saying she'd check on it (#5). At this point, we were over 2.5 hours in, and the overall experience had become frustrating. Some banchan dishes ordered never came, meat portions were smaller and of lower quality compared to their Bellaire location, and we were crammed the whole time. If you're going to offer an AYCE type dining you need: A functioning reservation system Adequate space per table Reasonable wait times Clean tableware and food Enough staff to handle demand We left feeling like we wasted our time and money and still felt hungry. Sadly, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had -- and I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone unless significant improvements are made. If you're not a fan of hair in your food, you're better off dining elsewhere. (We only managed to photograph the hair in the radish dish. The plate with hair was removed and replaced. This was our second visit to the new location. During our first, we chalked up the slow, poor service to new staff and decided to give it another chance. On this visit, the food service had improved. However, we had water dripping onto our table from two separate spots in the AC vents above. We notified the staff, but no effort was made to move us--surprisingly, it felt as though they didn't even believe us (despite the drips happening every few minutes). Aside from a quick apology, nothing was done to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, the lack of concern from both staff and management makes it clear that service quality is not a priority at this location. We have been coming to this location ever since it first opened, and we were actually there on opening day. We've always enjoyed the food here, and even today the food itself was still good. Unfortunately, today's experience was very disappointing. We came as a large group and were seated at a long table. Once our food was cooked, we realized there was no sauce provided. We later found out--only after asking our waitress--that we were expected to get our own sauce, which was never communicated to us beforehand. Another issue came up when we received the bill. Our 5-year-old was charged, even though on previous visits we were told that children 6 and under eat free. We are completely fine paying if the policy has changed, but it would have been nice to receive a heads-up. When I politely asked the waitress about it, she spoke to me in a dismissive way, as if I was making it up, which was upsetting and unnecessary. We've been loyal customers for a long time, so this experience was disappointing. Better communication and more respectful customer service would have made a big difference. read more

First off: the meat quality was inconsistent and in too many cases lacking. Service and table logistics were off. Despite claims of "no rush," we got frequent hints (body language included) that our time was up--one reviewer literally said they were being "kicked out" well before an hour had passed. Third: the price vs value felt off. For an "all-you-can-eat" setup I expected better consistency, but portions of flavor were missing, and the more premium cuts didn't always deliver. Despite some good sides, those couldn't make up for the core issues. Handam BBQ has the basics of what makes a good Korean BBQ, charcoal grills, an AYCE concept, a decent side spread, but falls short in execution. If you go here, temper your expectations: the meat and grill experience might be frustrating, the service was inconsistent, and the value diminished. Very nice staff. Helpful in explaining all the dishes and options. We were there for lunch, first time! Enjoyed the grilled meats and had veggies that we grilled too! Amazing how quickly we were completely full and satisfied. Will come again! read more

This is some of the better Korean BBQ I have had in Houston. Definitely the best in the Greater Heights area. The value is also really good.

I came here for dinner on a Saturday night with 2 friends. This may have been one of the worst Korean BBQ experiences I've had and I've had a lot. I get that this place opened not too long ago, but there are some basics to restaurant operations that are just not in place here. After placing our first order we waited almost 15 minutes to get the meat. I would think for a Korean BBQ place, getting the meats out as fast as possible would take priority but it seemed like the servers couldn't care less. Then the grill - I'm not sure if it was just ours or the design in general but cooking anything fattier than the brisket would cause the grill to flare up to the point it would burn any thinly sliced meat instantly. We tried to turn down the heat but it seemed to have no effect. The edges of the grill were also extremely dirty to the point we had to actively avoid cooking food near them. One of the food runners must have came by our table 5 times with the wrong order, but after how long it took for our first order of meat to come out, we just started taking whatever we could get. And on our way out, there was a woman that seemed like the manager talking to a server that we heard say "I'll go over there and kill it." Hopefully they meant a cow that has better quality meat. Went during soft opening this past weekend. They're not fully staffed yet so didn't get to try the cocktails :( but classic beer and soju hit the spot! We got the AYCE B menu ($35) which had a great variety of meats. Server was great and knew what she was doing but overall team still feels a little scattered. Didn't get our side dishes until after we had eaten our first round of meat lol but it came eventually and everything tasted great! Can't wait to come back once the full team is there :) read more
