Giant and Lobster Crunch, with large Asahi
    Mario B.

Food was fantastic, we ordered 4 rolls and one large beer to share with two people. Romeo and Juliet was good, but we preferred the Lobster Crunch. Giant roll was second favorite, escolar on top was very tasty. The deep fried Philadelphia was also perfectly cooked. Staff was very nice and we ate outside in their wind guarded patio. Location is great, plenty of parking.

Big fan of Hangetsu. The food on the day of our visit was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent. Personal favorite and a recommendation - Santa Barbara Uni. Fresh and sweet - surprisingly rare level of (high) quality. Another great feature is outdoor seating - but - in this areaa - it may get too chilly.

    Kobe beef roll

The rolls were super tasty and the fish to rice ratio was decent. We ordered the lion king roll, caterpillar roll, Kobe beef roll, and the Hamachi carpaccio. We got our food within 10 minutes, super quick on a weekday evening! Simple decor with lots of windows to watch the hwy traffic. There were a ton of TVs around the place and they were playing some live football game.

Hangetsu totally fits the hype! This local sushi restaurant Hangetsu is cozy, clean, charming, and serving delicious fresh shasimi and sushi dishes. The service is friendly and fast. I would highly recommend it

I typically avoid these coastal restaurants that cater to a lot of tourists which can often compromise quality and service. Today everything was almost spot on. It was a perfect, beautiful, coastal day. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were seated almost immediately at table with a spectacular ocean view. Our server Juan couldn't have been more personable and attentive. He was right on time from our first cocktail to the delivery of the check. Juan checked on us multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed and were content. Our orders were delivered promptly by multiple servers who were all proficient and friendly. The oysters we ordered were served cold and fresh with all the appropriate condiments. The seafood chowder was very good but me, personally, a thick, creamy, soup base is not my preference. Originally, we really wanted to get fish & chips at Barbra's Fishtrap but predictably, on a perfect weather holiday weekend, the line was intimidatingly long. Nevertheless, the Miramar fish & chips did not disappoint! Today, I rate our overall experience as excellent. I hope anyone choosing this establishment will enjoy a similar visit.

We come from Santa Cruz and I always tell people this is my favorite restaurant in the world!…read more My mother loves this restaurant too. She said she will loan it to us as a joke because she says it's "My favorite restaurant." We've been coming here for very special occasions, like our anniversary or birthdays. My mom's name is Frances and one time on her birthday we came. It was one of the waitresses birthday too 8/22. We enjoyed the food so much we spoke with Francisco the chef. He was very nice! We even come here before big trips when we fly out of SF airport. To start our vacation right. We had dinner here in Friday 9/11/26 as we came into town to celebrate my husband's birthday and we stayed two nights. On Friday we loved the food, the service and our waiter Luis was so good, fun and an all around excellent waiter. I even took a photo. I got the grilled salmon and instead of rice I got fries. I'm gluten free for an allergy, NOT preference. Fries are the one thing I can eat. In fact the reason I love your restaurant so much is I can have a dessert here that is gluten free, dairy free. Every time I come I have that flourless cake. This is the only restaurant that offers a dessert that I can have. Every time we come it's usually 4-5 stars. We went there again on Sat. Our waitress, Maria was so nice and helpful. The fries today were different and are obviously dipped in flour. I asked Maria can I get the fries that I had just last night? She said that's the only fries they have. I asked to talk to the manager and Salvador came up to our table, no smile, no apology. He was rude and said these are the only fries they have. He was obviously bothered by having to come over. Maria was very apologetic and very sweet (though it was not her doing) and offered a baked potato and I said yes. Then she came back and apologized again they are not available until after 3. Why do you RUIN perfectly good fries with gluten that some people are allergic to? Fries are awesome all by themselves. No need to overdue it by dipping them in gluten. Why do you ruin the one thing that I can usually count on? GET REGULAR FRIES. damn. Is it the same owner as before? We like to go to hindquarter restaurant in our native Santa Cruz and was there for my birthday two years ago. My best friend Kim knew the owner as she is in the restaurant business. He was one of the owners of Miramar beach restaurant and he was wearing the shirt from Miramar. I said I LOVE THAT RESTAURANT! And he gave me the shirt off his back literally then and there. Now that's above and beyond! So sweet. Salvador ~ if you're so unhappy (seems very unhappy) then move on. Give the management job to someone who is kind and proud of where their work. Someone who cares. I was extremely disappointed today at the fries, then at how they treated my complaint. They did give us a 10% discount, however I'm still very disappointed.

Everything on the menu is top notch and the service is nothing short of it. All the servers are great! Eric is always the best. Sleeper items include the mushroom tempura, the bbq squid (entire squid for $18!), and shima aji nigiri special. Ambiance is great. Very lucky to have a place so local that's Japan-tier quality. The real downside - the service. The most recent visit was slow and non-existent, and we weren't able to get a table, with only one person on the floor in the front house hosting, serving, and bussing. The person was working hard, which is commendable, yet didn't acknowledge people coming in (in addition to us) with a "I'll be right with you" or "We're short-handed"...barely even a glance actually at all. Can't really fault them; they were setup to fail. We went to Soul Rice instead. There are other options.

Not much has changed with the new incarnation of Sushi Sam - it's still fast-paced, very loud, and swarming with eager diners...ready to get their affordable omakase on! M E N U The extensive menu was quite confusing, as we received several paper menus featuring different dishes, along with a blackboard that we had to cross-reference with the paper menus BUT...there's something for everyone if you don't eat sushi including curry, teriyaki, and udon. F O O D * Chrysanthemum Greens & Duck Salad ($20): https://tinyurl.com/5yxbcpkb While it looked great in other pics, our duck breast was overdone and dry, while the greens needed dressing. * Chicken Karaage ($18): https://tinyurl.com/5ak2yavm You can't tell from the pic but these babies were HUGE! Fresh out of the fryer, the marinated chicken thigh was flavorful and juicy with a thin, crispy batter. Best karaage I've had to date. * Fried Green-eye (2 pc - $17): https://tinyurl.com/4cnuaxk8 A rec from our server, green-eye is a hard-to-find fish that's typically only served at high-end sushi bars when in season. It was tender, fatty, and naturally sweet. * OMAKASE w/ choice of dessert (8 pc- $82): https://tinyurl.com/mr47cvzk - Requested less shari (sushi rice) - Hirame: White halibut - Amaebi: Sweet shrimp - Katsuo: Bonito - Nama Hotate: Japanese raw scallop - Aji: Horse Mackerel - Tokishirazu: Summer catch salmon - Hokkaido Uni: Japanese sea urchin - [Chu?] Toro: Fatty tuna The fish/seafood quality was pristine and right up there with $$$$ high-end omakase restos. Each piece is seasoned with soy, yuzu salt, and/or torched. Wasabi is served on the side, it was very dry and not the best quality tho. Highlight: Hokkaido Uni - Rich, buttery, and sweet, with a pleasantly briny finish. Lowlight: Toro - Dry. I wasn't crazy about the sushi rice - it's on the plain side and fell apart easily but gotta keep the price point in mind. * Dessert (included in omakase): https://tinyurl.com/hj4abbwz -- Hōjicha Tiramisu: Creamy, roasty and light. I think a quick torch would have improved the flavor and texture. S E R V I C E Friendly, warm, and hella efficient...felt like organized chaos. There was no ipad or notepad yet one of the staff remembered all the rezzies by heart. A M B I A N C E Cozy, modern, and bright. Poor acoustics and high-paced so don't expect a relaxed meal. It was hard to maintain a convo at the sushi bar so IMO, not an ideal "date night" or "catch up" place. 12 seater sushi bar with an attached table to the side to seat four and five tables. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and thought it was a solid value given the quality of the fish. Just keep in mind that there's a trade-off when it comes to the "vibe", and you're good!
