I was so excited to be able to come by during their opening weekend! I was pleasantly surprised by the relatively smooth queueing and ordering process. --Cheesy greens hand pie: a mix of greens and cheese that had an extremely pleasant, balanced vegetable flavor inside a light and flaky pastry. It had just the right amount of tanginess that balanced the rich, savory, and cheesy flavor. It was still slightly warm when I had it; probably the best thing I had! --Pig in a blanket: reminded me of the Chinese hot dog buns growing up but this time, inside a flaky, poppy seed pastry. The hot dog itself was thicc. --Chocolate creme pie: the chocolate creme filling was balanced by the fresh whipped cream on top of the pie. The inside of the pie crust featured a layer of crunchy chocolate that was not only delicious, but also provided a wonderful textural contrast. --Malted cinnamon bun: I loved the malted frosting that added a roasty dimension to the sweetness. Personally not the biggest fan of buns/overly bread-y pastries, but my partner enjoyed it. --Chocolate chip cookie: A big cookie that featured many types of chocolate chips. It was appropriately crispy and chewy in texture, and had a brown butter taste to it. --Praline pecan latte and the drip coffee were both great, although the straw was too flimsy to be able to stir the latte properly. All of the staff were very nice, helpful and bubbly. The bakery was well lit and had some booth and table seating in the back. I don't get what the hype is about. Perhaps people like the large slices? The famous honey cake and the poppyseed cake were both very good, not too sweet. This might be my new favorite bakery in town! Very excited for chefs Miro and Shilpa to have a place of their own. They offer a variety of both sweet and savory pastries as well as seasonal drinks. Although there's limited seating, you could get lucky and find a table or seat at the bar. I've tried a bunch of different pastries so far and some of my favorites are the Chocolate cake, Chocolate tart, Chocolate chip cookie (I'm biased toward chocolate, oops), and the honey cake. ONE OF THE BEST CINNAMON BUNS I'VE EVER HAD. Amazing texture and perfectly slightly sweet. It was fluffy and the cinnamon really came through. I would love to try the other pastries and drinks I'm in the area. There are a few tables and chairs inside but it also seems like a popular grab and go spot too. Hani's is a new addition to the bakery scene in LES and it's quite an experience. On weekends the lines to out the door. I was excited to try this place and the chocolate chip cookie was some of the best I've had! It was definitely worth checking out! But the hot chocolate was lukewarm at best probably due to the weekend rush but for the price I would expect a hot cup of hot chocolate. I have two reviews here: one for the bakery and one for the 'third shift,' evening soft-serve. I would give the bakery 5 stars without hesitation. And instead of listing all of my faves, just go and order what sounds the best to you and you will be very happy! And try to go either early, or perhaps during a weekday. Weekend lines are rough, and most items sell out eventually by the end of the day. The soft-serve ice cream is, in my opinion, the weak link. The ice cream itself isn't anything special. The sundae's they make with them are fun, inventive, thoughtful and sound quite good! But the ice cream is pretty basic and you don't even get that much in the cup. I literally tossed the last few spoonfuls of the Strawberry & Cream sundae in the trash after it was such a let down. The strawberries, during peak season, were fine, the shortbread 'croutons,' were buttery & delicious, but the vanilla cream didn't make sense with a blah vanilla soft serve. I know people go nuts for the ice cream, but I don't get it! Go in the daytime for anything from the bakery, but get your ice cream elsewhere. read more

I was super touched by the backstory of this bakery that I had to stop in. The sausage roll and the cheese n greens roll were great savory choices. I believe the cheese inside the roll is not cow's milk, as it had more of a feta-like tang and did not aggravate my worsening lactose intolerance. The sausage roll offers a hefty link with a smear of mustard swathed in a lovely laminated and scored sheet of golden flaky dough. The sausage held up to the bake and shelf time as it maintained its integrity, unlike a more wrinkly dog in your standard Simon shopping mall pretzel dog. Okay so this is more of a 3.5 and while I didn't think it merited being rounded up to four I don't think it's as low as a three. My friend and I came for my birthday and sampled a ton of stuff and my favorite was the hot chocolate. It was a drinking chocolate and topped with a layer of vanilla custard. Super rich, not too thick or thin, the vanilla custard added a bit of sweetness to it which I loved. Definitely one of my favorite hot chocolates I've had in New York so far (better than Glacé and Librae yup yup). My favorite thing I ate was the potato bun, especially the tang that the sour cream and chives gave. Man this would've been especially delicious warm but it was colder than room temp which I didn't like but the taste won out. Chocolate cake was the better of the four desserts I tried. Yes better than the cinnamon roll which I think was totally overrated (I warmed it up too). The cake wasn't quite cold as it would've been if refridgerated and not room temp either, somewhere in the middle, and so I was like man do I need to wait for this to come to room temp to enjoy it bjt not at all, it was served at the perfect temp and was thick, cakey, and moist. It wasn't a super rich deep chocolatey flavorful at all so for people afraid of it being "too chocolatey" would be satisfied. I might've liked it more if it was darker in flavor but it was still satisfying. I adore honey cake and have had it at quite a few central Asian and Eastern European spots before and found this one to be way too sweet so it was a pass for me. Brownie was whatever. And the cinnamon roll is a no from me. Gorgeous presentation but the flavors and texture did nothing for me. The icing on top tasted like béchamel and the roll itself was a very light cinnamon taste with a huge blob of it under the roll ( a little confusing). Anyways not the best cinnamon roll in New York as people claim it to be. As for seating, you'll get some if you're lucky but don't count on it. There's plates, water, and utensils all the way in the back. I'd love to try more of their savory stuff for sure! read more

Since I am a chocolate chip cookie aficionado we decided to swing by Hani's. I ordered 2 of their famous chocolate chip cookies and nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price! $8 a piece?! You have got to be kidding me (that's what I was thinking as I paid). I thought my husband was going to freak. Well he didn't. We broke one of the cookies in half and well...I can say it's worth every penny! The cookie is amazing! I am waiting for the next time we are near so I can grab a few again. I'd like to mention, the staff is super friendly. They have a bunch of other awesome looking sweet treats. The carrot cake looked really good. We may try that next time too. read more

So tasty and delicious. I went on a Monday afternoon about an hour prior to closing. There were no lines since it was raining, but I've heard it gets busy. Everything was still in stock, which I was happy about! They had about three savory items and several sweet items. I got the broccoli cheddar scone and the pb&j brunch cake. Both were super delicious and I'm very happy I went' the cake slice has a peanut butter frosting which was very light. There was also blueberry jam and black sesame crunch! Highly recommend. Came in here for a mid day indulgence. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, walking me through a few options. I ordered the cheddar broccoli scone which was really delicious. Immediately one of my favorite bakeries. Tied for first for me in fact. Didn't take a pic, but the hot chocolate was essentially melted Valrhona chocolate with the most special, silky vanilla cream on top with a small dash of cinnamon. It was an experience. The baked goods are so well crafted, fun, and exactly what you want them to taste like when eating them. Truffle baked potato bun was so soft and pleasant to bite in to. I want to try more of their savory offerings because this was my favorite. There's a bit of baked potato in the center of the bun, and the truffle, crème fraiche and chive give exactly what you want. The cosmic brownie is as fudgie and rich as I wanted it to be. There's a slight salty edge to the frosting - in the best way - that keeps it from being cloyingly sweet. SO good. The ultimate chocolate fix, as a brownie should be. I would go out of my way for this. The chocolate chip cookie is crispy and chewy. It had every chocolate in it and had a very toffee, caramelized flavor to it. Not my kind of cookie personally due to the texture. The cinnamon bun is very good - some of the best frosting. The bun seems to be a cross between a brioche like bun and the classic cinnamon bun. I would prefer if the bun were the texture of a classic cinnamon bun (softer, less dense) however the icing is addictive and a problem. This place is so good. read more

New York City's most exciting new bakery, recently opened by Chef Miro Uskokovic of Gramercy Tavern, and his wife Shilpa, senior editor at Bon Appétit. Hani's (pronounced "Honey's" is a whimsical American bakery, offering elevated versions of timeless treats. I arrived at opening on a weekday morning, and was the only one there. In fact, many items were not ready yet, and I ended up waiting 30 minutes for the potato buns and brownies to be done. Fortunately, it was worth it. The PSL Bread (vegan) was moist and richly spiced, with a sweet espresso scented icing. The Potato Bun was a soft milk bread with tender slices of potato and creme fraiche. The freshly shaved Perigord black truffle (+$12) on top made it truly unforgettable. Their "Fudgiest Brownie" was the only elevated Cosmic Brownie I've ever loved. The only pastry I did not love was, oddly, the one I've heard the most about: the Malted Cinnamon Bun. The icing was creamy with hints of cream cheese, but no malt flavor, and the bun itself was dry. This review is for their hot chocolate. I went a few weeks ago so I'm going to be slightly nicer since it's not fresh in my mind. I think I paid around $8 for a small cup of hot chocolate. While it was better than your very average hot chocolate, the texture felt a little off and the chocolate flavor wasn't very strong. I was not quite sure how to describe the texture, but the best way to describe it was that it felt the slightest bit gel like. The hot chocolate was also straight out of a ready made dispenser which made the price point a little more questionable but I knew that was how it was served before going anyway. Definitely not a bad hot chocolate, but it seems like it's getting overhyped on social media. There are just others that make more sense for the quality and price point. The last newest (to me) place I tried was Maribelles which was also pricey (also around $8) but the quality was far better. If you go to Jacques Torres, LA Burdick, or a Color or Chocolate pop up, you'll likely have a higher quality hot chocolate at a lower price point. And probably space to sit too! I am very very critical of hot chocolate so if you generally don't have strong opinions, you'll probably like this one. But I fear I can make a hot chocolate that I'd personally prefer more at home :') I think I would go back if I was in a hot chocolate mood and the price was closer to $4-5. I don't know much about their pastries and the people at the counter seemed nice so maybe if you get a pastry and manage to snag a seat it would be more worth the money. I talked to a woman in line who seemed to be very into baking and loved their pastries so might be worth trying but I personally don't feel compelled to go. Wow, just wow. The hype is for good reason. It was definitely tough selecting what to order because everything behind the counter looked and sounded amazing. The staff were helpful in offering their recommendations. I definitely will be going back to try other items. My favorite item on this visit was the carrot cake. It was multi layered and filled with a delicious cream cheese filling, and it was just a little salty and not overly sweet regrettably. I didn't take a picture because I was too excited to eat it. I'm glad we found Hani's - it was a lovely experience overall, especially considering they're a new spot. We came to share a bunch of their pastries. We were excited about their cinnamon roll, but were disappointed to find that it was sold out on a Thursday by 11 a.m. (They're open until 5 p.m. and don't switch their menu for lunch, so this seemed odd.) The staff was friendly, but there were a lot of people working, while only one person was managing the front of the house, maybe? We ended up waiting in line with about six other people for a while, and it seemed like the one staff member was by themselves. We ordered the potato bun, spinach roll, carrot cake, and PB&J cake. Overall, everything was well-balanced. The potato bun was light with a lovely, subtle sour cream flavor. The spinach roll was buttery with a generous portion of filling. Both the carrot cake and PB&J icing were flavorful without being too sweet. However, I found the cake part of both desserts a little dry, though I appreciated the texture of the carrots in the carrot cake. We also tried the drinking chocolate and an iced praline latte. The vanilla cream on top of both was delicious! A tip for the praline latte: make sure to mix it well, as the syrup tends to settle at the bottom. If I returned, I'd definitely go for the drinking chocolate instead. One last note: my friend and I were able to sit at a cozy two-seater and enjoyed chatting for about an hour. Arguably the best bakery in NYC right now. Minimal to no line on a Saturday morning at 10am is only a bonus in my book because no rush and no stress to get there. Got the chocolate chip cookie, cinnamon roll and strawberry passionfruit chart. Let me just say- nothing missed. Im not even a fruit tart girly (my girlfriend wanted it) and it converted me into a fruit tart girl. So tart but sweet and flaky but didn't fall apart. The cinnamon roll was also SUPER good, but tbh may opt for another one of their cakes next time just to mess around and try because they all looked good. One thing I will never not get, and will never stop talking about- the chocolate chip cookie. Holy cow this thing is perfect. 3 types of chocolate- melty but crispy but gooey and thing but chewy? one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've had in the city, a very close second to levain! the cookie has just the right amount of sea salt on top that elevates it and the edges are a bit crispy but the center is so perfectly gooey. it's normally very busy inside so getting a seat may be difficult as there is minimal seating but perfect as a to go option. the service is very quick & fast. highly recommend!! will definitely be back to try more of their menu options. read more

They have a lot of unique options, but because they have so many options, the pastry you want might not be available at that time. We got the cinnamon roll, cookie, and the honey cake. The cinnamon roll was fluffy moist. The frosting wasn't too sweet. This was good, but not that special. The cookie was massive with a crunchy edge and chewy center. I wouldn't say it's worth the $8 though. I wasn't a fan of the honey cake. The cake was fine, but the frosting was very buttery and had a weird after taste. It tasted more like burnt honey.
