    Singapore Style Vermicelli
    Karena S.

I was on Yelp searching the area to find a place to eat and stumbled upon Hao Cafe. This restaurant is a little hole in the wall that serves Hong Kong cafe foods. I grew up eating this type of food and this restaurant definitely hit the spot for me. Parking was a little difficult to find since it's a strip mall next to Target with other booming businesses next door. I ordered online and brought it back home for takeout. I went on Yelp and noticed that they have a website where you can order take-out. They direct you to a third-party website that doesn't charge any service fees which is nice. I ordered the Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli & Spam and Egg Fried Instant Noodle. The total was about $39! Food: Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli (9/10): This one does require an acquired taste for curry. It's a vermicelli and vegetable dish that is fried in curry. This reminded me so much of my childhood and had the perfect amount of saltiness and flavor. Spam and Egg Fried Instant Noodle (7/10): This dish is exactly as it's named. The instant noodle is fried down with some soy sauce. The spam had a nice char to it and the eggs were scrambled within the dish. I thought this one was just okay, I do wish there was a bit more flavor. Overall, I'm really happy I found this restaurant! I definitely will be coming back and trying more dishes!

Very small Cantonese restaurant with a large menu. There are approx 8 small tables so I would not recommend for large group. They have everything you would expect from pineapple buns, porridge, crispy chow mein, char sui, roasted duck and more. Everything tasted good and my only complaints were that the greens were overcooked and that rice does not come with any of the entrees for dinner service. Food came out fast and service was adequate. Accepts Amex, limited parking, but there are adjacent lots.

Recently moved to Duarte and Hao Cafe is truly heaven's sent. I grew up surrounded by HK cafes so the list of ones I've been to is probably too many pages long, so when I passed by Hao Cafe tucked away in a corner in a small plaza, I was hesitant to try. "Would the Lemon Iced Tea be good?", " Are they a fake HK cafe?"...so many doubts within me to ever want to try.... Until last night, I read all the positive reviews and took my chances - I am SO glad I did because Hao Cafe is definitely a 11/10! Everyone on the reviews raved about how delicious the Beef Chow Fun & the Roasted Duck is, so those I knew I had to try - both a 11/10 - both were AMAZING! Ordered their Curry Fish Ball (8/10) and Fried Chicken Wings (10/10) - balls were chewy and wings were crispy - I LOVED IT! Same goes for their Lemon Iced Tea. Service was great! They knew every customers who walked in. The restaurant was packed and their phone was ringing off the hook with pick up orders. I will definitely be coming back very soon! Highly recommend Hao Cafe!!!!!

Hao Cafe is the reason I love Duarte so much! My family and I have been going to Hao Cafe almost every week since it opened its doors. This restaurant has truly become a weekly ritual, and a great place to bring anyone. You can't beat the quality of food or the affordable prices here. I've enjoyed lots of meals dining in, or taking out to enjoy at home, and one thing is always true - I am always so full and happy after eating here. They are a family-run cafe, and there is no doubt that everyone is a big fan of them because it's always packed out the door. I've gotten to try a variety of dishes here and they offer just about anything here that can cater to anyone's taste. They have amazing roast duck and BBQ pork to fried rice, vermicelli, porridge, soup, curry, chicken wings, sandwiches, etc...and they are all delicious. I have yet to try every dish here because there is just so much variety. As a true HK cafe, they make top-notch HK Lemon Tea and HK Style Milk Tea and Coffee. I've also enjoyed their Crushed Ice w/ Red Bean, Lychee, Logan, Grass Jelly...I just can't go wrong ordering anything here. Every friend I have brought here always love their craft drinks, big portions, hot food, and quick service. A big kudos to the chefs and servers. Yes, the cafe is a little cozy, but who doesn't love that when their service is so friendly, and you can snuggle a little closer to your family or friends. There is parking in the front on Huntington, or you can go to the back or use street parking on Bradbury. Trust me, any wait time will the worth the wait and you'll leave feeling so full, cozy, and want to plan another visit here again soon. Thank you to the wonderful staff here for taking care of my group every time I visit. I'll see you very soon, and often!

    Lunch Special Curry Chicken...so good!

Hao Cafe is such a gem in the neighborhood of Duarte and I happen to be nearby in the area and was craving something delicious for lunch. Lo and behold, I arrived at this cafe and there was already a few groups waiting outside to get a table. The cafe is really small inside - looked like maybe about 7-10 smaller tables. But it's definitely a bustling cafe! I went to the register to place a to-go order and the lady with the glasses was very efficient and nice. I ordered their Curry Chicken Lunch Special, which came with the full-size entree and about a bowl-size of rice. Their Lunch Specials range from $12.95-$14.95 before tax. My Curry Chicken was $13.95 and with tax came to about $15 and some change. The tax rate in Duarte is one of the higher ones at about 10.5%, so add that to whatever you do plan to order here. But it was still worth it because I gotta tell ya...the Curry Chicken was just GOOD! Like REAL GOOD! Now let me say this: HK/Cantonese Curry uses a different kind of curry and is sweeter and lighter than other curries. It really has a distinct flavor that's a real home-style favorite for me. The chicken is also bite-sized, a common protein cut in Cantonese dishes. Will be returning here again when I am craving some delicious HK Style dishes!

Amazing. I can only imagine that dining in would've been even better. Very clean tasting, not too oily, flavors just right. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

We came around noon and they were packed inside a pretty small storefront. The wait time was about 15 minutes. Staff was quick in seating us, taking our order, and bringing the food out. They have a gender neutral bathroom in the back. We got the L51 Two Items with Flat Rice Noodle ($14.95), choosing their well known roasted duck and wontons. This was a good portion with lots of noodles. Duck was flavorful and tender, about 6 pieces. Then we got the L52 Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli ($14.95) which was a big portion for the price. It was savory with the curry with some shrimp and charsiu. Definitely will return for their lunch specials again! Very reasonable price for the portions.

I've been hearing about their roast duck and decided to give it a try. We came at around 3pm on a weekend and surprisingly it's super hard to find a parking. There are couple of other restaurants, and some parking are marked at 30min only. And this strip mall is very small with limited parking (plus basically no side street parking at all as you can't park on Huntington and they are in between sonic and McDonald) They were definitely not packed at this hour. We ordered the Singapore style fried rice noodle and the roast duck with rice (all from lunch menu). The rice noodle tasted authentic but very salty. Definitely the saltinest rice noodle that I ever ate in the HK style cafe. It will probably be great for people that like very strong taste. But I finish the whole cup of ice water because of this noodle. And the roast duck is alright but feel not salty enough. (Or our tastebud got mess up by the rice noodle). But definitely missing the sauce that usually pour generously on those roast duck rice. Just a side note, a LOT of servers, but none of them attentive at all. They will just talk to customer that they know. And basically give you a blank look if you are not one of those "known" one. Never asked if we need more water or refill. They simply walk by. Another thing to note, very LIMITED table. Total about 7 tables that seated 4 each. It will be tough for large group.

I was visiting city of hope and was looking for a place to eat on yelp, found this little gem. They were open for breakfast so decided to stop by. They have alot of stuff on the menu, from western breakfast to Chinese food, roast duck and the price is pretty reasonable. We ordered the duck and rice plate $15, eggplant $12 i think, Hot and sour soup $9 and a whole roast duck $39. Everything was really delicious. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

I went to Hao Cafe with my family because we were craving good Chinese food. The restaurant isn't very big, so coming with a big party might be a problem. Service was good since all of our food came out within 5-10 minutes. We ordered mapo tofu, green beans, orange chicken, stir fried broccoli, braised tofu, char siu pork, spam and egg stir fried noodles, and fish with black bean sauce. Everything was delicious, but my kids love their braised tofu best! Also, if you ever need party trays, they have it. A must order for parties are the chicken wings. It was a hit at the party. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. This is a hidden gem so don't forget to check it out.

Hao Cafe is a lowkey Cantonese style restaurant located in a small plaza next to the Target Plaza on Huntington. There's a small parking lot out front. The restaurant itself is small with with a few tables and counter seating, fit for smaller parties. When I went for a Sunday dinner, the tables were filled and some parties had to wait outside. If truly is a hidden gem because the restaurant sign camouflaged with the surrounding. There were plenty of dishes on the menu, all of which were well-priced and sounded delicious. I got to try 2 dishes. The beef rice noodle stir-fry came out quickly, had great wok hei, and very tender/smooth beef. The noodles itself had a great brown color, and the bean sprouts added a great crunch with eat bite. The wonton soup (no noodles) came with 8 shrimp wonton, 2 stems of leafy vegetables, and hearty soup. This took a bit loner to come out. The wontons were large sized with a chunk of shrimp. The soup was very flavorful and had the characteristic Cantonese cuisine sweet, umami taste. It very very hearty eating it. Overall, the food was great, portions are large, and it all came at a good price. I would come back to try their other dishes! Wonton soup Beef stir fried noodle

Plesantly stumbled upon this place on a weekday looking for a late lunch spot while in the area. Luckily, they had ample lunch specials with reasonable prices offered through the mid/late afternoon. The portions were really generous and ended up eating leftovers for serveral meals. Both the shrimp scrambled eggs and Singapore noodles were oilier than I'd like, but nothing that a bubbly water, soda, or something fizzy can't fix. Small parking lot, or street parking. Service was ok, can't complain. Please do note that the air conditioner may not be on (if they even have A.C.) during your meal. I arrived on a hot day and only fans were circulating. I'd come back again and try their other lunch entrees. #17/2025

I would definitely come back!

I was too hungry to wait but I decided to come back nice and early. At my 8:30am visit I was able to be selective in their parking lot and no wait to be seated. Yay! I love the interior décor. The table had dominos underneath the glass, the dishes and utensils had lucky auspicious affirmations. I'm all for the positive vibes this early in the morning. Staff are incredibly quick and efficient. They are really on top of it. I think they really have to be in order to meet the demand of the busy crowd. I was excited for the breakfast specials since I love breakfast foods. I can eat it all day! The breakfast combos come with your choice of drink. Cold drinks are an extra $1. After looking at some photos on Yelp and some helpful Q&A with my waitress, I decided on their Breakfast Combo D. Porkchop & Egg Pineapple Bun with Dried Scallop Congee ($13.99) and I opted for the Iced Lemon Tea ($1 cold drink upgrade). What a deal!! I also added a side order of the Fried Dough Stick ($3.50) or also known as the crueler or Chinese donut since I like to have it with my congee. It wasn't needed from a portion perspective but I just like it. The food came out quickly, the congee first and then the fried dough stick and porkchop & egg pineapple bun. What a feast! The ladies at the lady next to me were so excited at my spread they asked me what I got. They thought I was really pro but it was actually just my first visit. Inside the pineapple bun there was a fried egg, porkchop, tomato, lettuce, and sauce. It was a huge sandwich. This is one of the bigger pineapple buns I see and it was well stuffed. The amount of food I ordered was enough to feed 2 people. The congee was really subtle. I didn't get the fried scallop that is in the name... I would just perceive it as a plain congee. The fried dough stick was oily and didn't taste too fresh. I probably won't order it next time. Nevertheless a still overall fabulous meal. My tea was refilled before I had the chance to ask. When I asked for the check, they knew to bring me togo containers without me having to ask too. Very smart service! I had a great meal here and I will definitely come back if I wake up early enough to come at opening.

We immediately got seated. Mind you, this isn't the type of place were you sit, enjoy your meal, and have a comfortable conversation. This restaurant is all about moving volume. Eat, be nice to the staff, and leave! Their take out business was off the charts during our stay. The staff was working their tails off to keep everything in order. Much respect there! Anyhow, I ordered from the "breakfast menu". They have an extensive pre-lunch - break menu at very affordable prices. I had the minced pork rice noodle in soup with a side of plain chowmein. And I ordered a ice (cold) milk tea (there's an up-charge for cold drinks +2 bucks). I think my total pre-tax and tip was like $16 bucks. Not bad. The chowmein was a bit "limp" in taste but I assume adding a bit of chili-oil would have fixed it for me. Again, this a good deal place. Enough said.
