I remember one time long time ago when this place first opened, they offered AYCE. I came with gfs and were disappointment. Meat quality wasn't good so forever it left bad impression on me. This week a friend was craving hotpot, and I settled for Little Sheep against all odds. It was so packed on a weekday night, good sign. They gave us a table fairly quick probably becoz i speak Mandarin to the host :) we ordered premium ribeye, lots seafood and veggie. No alcohol for us. Everything was REALLY good especially the ribeye, impressive. The fishball with roe, my favorite, did the wonders too. Scallops with tobiko were very fresh and yummy. What impressed me the most besides the ribeye, was the soup base. The white part of the broth was made of chicken and bone and cooked over night for serving. It has SO much flavor yet not heavy, has lots chinese herbal flavor too. I love it so much that i asked if i could just order this to go next time and eat at home :) Our bill was $100, it is not cheap, but it was real quality meal. They have a very wide variety of vegetables (green veggies, mushrooms, tofus, etc.), noodles, fish balls, and meats to choose from - perfect for everyone! I came here on a Thursday around 11:30/11:45 am to take advantage of their $10.95 lunch combo. It comes with a choice of meat (beef, pork, lamb), choice of broth (classic, spicy, half & half), and a side of veggies (fish balls, tofu, mushrooms, cabbage, bok choy, noodles). Little Sheep tends to be pricey if you order a la carte, so I thought this deal was very much worth it. The combo doesn't come with any rice, but if you want to order it it's only $1/bowl. I ordered the lamb while my friend ordered the beef. We both really liked the flavors of the broths - the classic broth is perfect if you don't want the extra spice, but we liked cooking our meats in the spicy broth. I also really liked the fish balls and mushrooms! Service here was great! Maybe I came on a day that wasn't too busy, but the servers were constantly refilling our waters and asking us if we needed anything else. The only issue with coming here is that it is located in DT Mountain View, where it's usually pretty hard to find parking for. However, the area does have a lot of open lots with free 2-3 hour parking, along with street parking and a parking garage. The only reason this review got 2 stars instead of 1 because little sheep alway has great food. We usually go to San Mateo branch which is much bigger but parking is dreadful. Then we occasionally go to the one located in Cupertino which is a little smallest, more cozy and less business around therefore of easier parking than San Mateo. Today on the way back from taking care of business from San Jose thought just try the mountain view branch since it's no the way. Use quality and taste of food is the same between locations since it's a chain. The gentleman who checked us in is very polite and seated us after 5 minutes wait(lunch time 12:45). We have been having little sheep hotpot for years so we pretty much eat the same thing every time we order. He provided us 3 meal menu 1 drink menu. 1 is lunch special (which we don't do cause the quantity is small and we don't get to choose what we want even the price looks good ).Then I spotted the all you can eat separate menu on Tuesday which today is for $28.99. We are not really too big of a eater so what we want to order is all on that menu. At the bottom of the menu said do not waste food only order 2 portion each time and you can reorder unlimited time. so I put on 2 lamb, 2 beef, 1 fish ball, 1 thick noodles,1 thin noodles, 1 crab stick. 2 soda. Took much longer to get out food than other location (broth came out quick ). Before food came out my newborn baby wakes so I have to feed him and pamper him. So I and my husband will eat in turn. Then I realize my husband just sitting there waiting for me to finish feeding out baby. I asked why aren't you eating. He said they didn't bring much. My husband never make demands in Chinese restaurant but let me. So I try to get the waiter attention. I have my arm in the air for so long he make sure he doesn't even look toward this direction and never ever walked this way. Eventually I just have to call out "excuse me " to get his attention. After I adress that wasn't too much meat you brought he mentioned to me I am only bring you 1 order each time(even the menu clearly says 2 orders each time). No problem. Second order came with an attitude from the same server. It's our first time to this location so it's our first time to experience all you can eat. With a could-wake-up-anytime infant we really can't "take advantage " of the deal. I thought it was easy. My mistake. My point is if you do have all you can eat deal on certain date to promote your business so more people to come in then honor it. If there is a catch and you really can not do all you can eat for that price simply take that off the menu. When it's the last time hotpot was ever cheap anyway. but instead they turn this simple lunch into a begging for food process. Why am I pay for this again? Even I was not really happy with how hard to get the server and eventually never get a refill on my any drinks,we are in service industry ourself, we still tip them what we usually tip, maybe what the serve did wilt required by the restaurant? Visited this place with a group of friends. Was pretty full for a weekday evening. I head they have some wait on weekends. And they only take reservations for 6 or more. So go sooner if you don't want a long wait. The service is good. They are happy to explain the concept and help you place an order. They also have vegetarian options. We took half veggie and half chicken broth. Keep in mind the spicy version is really spicy and has hundreds of chillies. We personally enjoyed the original broth more. Lot of options for veggies and meats. We loved the fresh tofu and their noodles. They also refill the pot when it starts getting empty, which is pretty cool. The only thing to keep in mind is that you should check twice and thrice to make sure you got vegetarian broth. Last time someone tried to refill ours with chicken broth and it took us a while to communicate with him. But definitely worth a try. read more

Little sheep always hits the spot no matter which location I'm at!! Came here at around lunch time- 12pm on a Saturday and there was no line!! We were seated right away. The interior is very modern and had great AC which was nice because it was super hot outside. Here's what we got: Half and half soup base: really delicious! I loved the flavor and variety of both broths. Hand cut beef: this was plenty of beef for 2 people and really good quality too! Fried fish tofu: omg fave!! I don't think I've had this good fish tofu if I just buy it from a Chinese supermarket. It's really good and just tasted really fresh. I think this was my favorite. Wintermelon: I really enjoyed this because I liked the texture and taste of this mixed with the soup broths. Napa cabbage: Really fresh and a staple to hot pot. Ear fungus: I liked how they soaked this in advance so it's basically already good to go. Tofu platter: YUMMY!!! This included normal soft tofu, a more spongy tofu, and fried tofu pods. House vermicelli noodles: I forgot what these were called but they were the wide clear noodles. They cooked super fast and eating it was just so satisfying since they were fat and chewy. But the place honestly exceeded all my expectations. Our table really enjoyed the house original marrow broth. We ended up getting the split pot that has the spicy side on it but if we went back next time we would just opt for just the house original. We were walking around downtown Mountain View, deciding what to eat for lunch when we saw a small crowd of people outside of Little Sheep, waiting for it to open. We decided to join them, which turned out to be a great decision! I loved all the meats, seafood, and veggie options, and the broth was DELICIOUS. We ordered the half and half, but I liked the original broth over the spicy one. If you don't know what to order, a good option is to go for the combo platters (they have one for meats, mushrooms, veggies, etc.). Make sure to get either rice or noodles to soak in all the goodness of the hot pot, as well as sauces to dip it in! I prefer this location over the SF one, as it's a lot better ventilated. The SF one gets way too hot and muggy in there, but not the case in Mountain View. Expect to spend at least $25/person for a good-sized hot pot meal. I will definitely be back! read more

Great hotpot restaurant located in downtown Mountain. I came here with a group of five for an early Monday dinner at 5:30pm. We ordered the half-and-half soup base, which came with a pot separated by a divider, one side with a white creamy house soup broth, the other with a spicy base. The white soup was great and to my preference, and the spicy soup is a great option for spicy lovers (unfortunately, not to my liking though). We ordered quite a lot of things from the menu, which has a lot of meat and veggie options, along with side dishes and sauces. We ordered some lamb and beef slices, along with a lot of additions: cabbage, bok choy, mushroom platter, house noodles, tofu, taro. All the ingredients were fresh and good, and the meat was very tasty, especially the AAA lamb slices. The total came down to be about $23 per person which was a reasonable price, and I left feeling comfortably full. Definitely recommend coming with a group; it's a fun experience. read more

We normally go to another branch of Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot, but they were closed for renovation, so off to Mountain View we go! This location is not very big, but they do try to pack as many patrons in as possible. There's larger 8 person table to small and intimate 2 person tables. I can definitely see this place as where the wait can be a minimum of half an hour to an hour on a busy day. If you have to wait, they ask you to on using an ipad and you enter your name and phone number. They will text you when your table is ready. Routine ordering at Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot is all the same - you get this place mat style menu and you start with the type of broth you want. If you want to stick with mild, the original soup base is your thing. If you want to be a little adventurous, definitely try the two broth pot, one regular and one spicy broth. I really like the spicy one myself, but people I go with may not always be able to handle the heat, so hence the compromise. Then you choose the meats, veggies, seafood, and they also have cooked foods like dumplings, skewers and green onion pancake. Some suggestions: Duo broth Napa cabbage Spinach Frozen tofu - this is spongy in texture and absorbs the broth Fish tofu NZ lamb Prime beef Enoki mushroom Rice noodles Lamb skewers - already cooked Each person gets a ladle and you just dip the meat and veggies into the broth. Because the meat is cut so thinly, you literally only have to cook it for 30 seconds or so. The broth is slightly herbal-ish, no other way to describe it. Solid place for hot pot in the area. Dinner starts at 6:30 pm and promptly, the restaurant is filled. Coming from Southern California where Little Sheep originated, I was shocked that up here there was a charge for sauce and the selection of vegetables are less. Since I am vegetarian, thankfully another Yelp review said that their "Vegetarian" base isn't vegetarian. How confusing, but it was clear when the waiter asked if I wanted the vegetarian soup base to be water based. At least they asked! In this establishment, the soup was pretty flavorful and salty that sauce wasn't really needed in retrospect. The sauces are 50 cents for a small shallow dish. Unclear if refills cost more. I didn't end up finishing the sauce anyway. Got the vegetable platter which included lettuce, tong ho, napa, and bok choy with some pumpkin. Each tray of individual types of vegetables or meat are a medium size. I would say the vegetable platter with 2-3 other sides are good for 2-3 people. I was very impressed with their frozen tofu. I would recommend trying this, because freezing the tofu creates a sponge-like look that absorbs the soup really well. At Little Sheep, it was frozen just enough so it was still super soft but absorbent not rigid like a real sponge. The pricing can add up! You can take the vegetables you didn't cook and the soup to go though. They also offer fill-ups on water or broth. read more

Unlike other Little Sheep meat is just plated and not very presentable. We enjoyed the broth alot but had to admit was a bit thirsty afterwards. This is my go to place for some hot pot. I love how fresh the meat is and how thin they slice the meat. My go to is the half and half broth. Beware of the spicy side. The garlic sesame dipping sauce is great with the added spice. The non-spicy broth is really good to balance out the spicy side. Beware if you let the veggies sit in the spicy broth too long, it will be extremely spicy when you take it out. I generally get the beef & lamb combo, some veggie choices and rice. Their meat is super tender and the lamb doesn't have an overpowering taste like some of the lamb at other places. You can always expect fresh veggies all the time. Love their selection of different types of mushroom as well. For a busy hot pot place, the lines aren't that bad. Less than 30min, at least the times I've been here. We got the milky bone broth and spicy bone broth. Both were very flavorful and not just full of msg. But for some reason, the longer the broth boils with the food, the saltier it gets and they don't refill more broth. But their broth is for sure one of the better soup bases I've had. The Kobe beef was sooo good, the lamb was a bit too gamey for our taste, but the house lamb meatball had a great texture and full of flavor without being too overpowering! Their fish tofu is also amazing, it's so fresh and soft, definitely the best one we've had compared to other hot pot places. Also tried the spicy tendon appetizer, it was a big portion but very spicy. Their menu says they don't recommend dipping sauces but we've ordered a few for .50. So small they need to bring an extra stand on the side to order our food. I asked our server how big were the regular portions and she pointed to a table with a plate STACKED with meat. I thought ok.. So maybe the price isn't that bad if we get that much meat. WRONG. You could only imagine how disappointed I was to see less than 10 pieces of meat on each plate. Ordered the half/half broth and did not enjoy it at all. It has an herbal taste to it, so if you're sensitive to that, avoid this place at all costs. I couldn't even eat the vegetables because it soaked in too much of the broth. For nearly $70 after tip, getting AYCE at Little Dipper would STILL be cheaper. I hate to do this because they did comp our meal. And I LOVE this place. I really do. But they have HUGE problems in their kitchen. Let me explain... Get our order. Eating fine, tastes great. Have the mixed veggie bowl on the side. Find something interesting in it. I call the waiter over. It's apparently, according to the waiter, a raw PIG KIDNEY. In my veggies. They take the veggies away, and with lots of yelling in the kitchen, bring out a new bowl of veggies. I pull out the lettuce. COVERED IN MUD (seriously, covered, no way someone could not have noticed). I have to call the waiter over again. He's super sweet, and takes it away. More yelling from the kitchen. The waiter and manager are both incredibly sweet. New veggies are brought out again, but this time a much more limited selection, just three different kinds (of very clean veggies, this time). I would love to change this review, and might at a future date. They seriously need to get their kitchen in order, because these are major health violations. read more

Happy to finally see a branch of Little Sheep come to the popular downtown Mountain View area. Although there are already locations in San Mateo and Cupertino, Little Sheep brings another option for hot pot fans to compete with the nearby, but different, Shabuway. The interior is modern and clean and while not as spacious as their other two locations has nice seating for larger groups as well as smaller tables for couples or individuals. Service was plentiful and friendly. They checked on us multiple times, refilled broth/tea/water, and were happy to answer questions. Our order: Half and Half Broth - their signature original herbal and flavorful broth paired with a potent spicy broth with plentiful dry chilies. I love how they have two hot pots for large groups and supply plentiful soup and strainer ladles for each pot. 5 Meatball Sampler - a great variety and fresh. Take a bit longer to cook but great protein. Fatty Supreme Beef - nicely marbled and absent any false specifications like Kobe or Wagyu. It's just fresh, thinly sliced beef with nice marbling. Little Sheep is based on Mongolian hot pot so their lamb is a signature meat not found at all hotpots. Slightly gamey but solid quality. Cuttlefish Paste - $7.95. Excellent flavor and DIY meatballs were a hit. Napa Cabbage, Enoki Mushrooms, Tripe, Wide Noodles, and Spinach - one of the best parts of Little Sheep is the variety of ingredients you can order and a good variety of vegetables. While the broth is savory and flavorful, I always feel somewhat healthy by all the vegetables we order. Pork Dumplings - $7.95. Little Sheep also offers a good variety of cooked dishes and they're solid for a change of pace from all the boiled foods. Overall, we had a great meal at Little Sheep. I've always been a huge fan of Little Sheep and their consistency and execution is one of the best in the industry (like Din Tai Fung).
