Do NOT come here! Rude! I came in today, Monday, 07.27.2020, at around 5:50pm. I decided to go on a jog after work and saw this place, so I decided to stop by. Nobody was at the register even after making some audible noise, so I waited patiently. A gentleman in a suit walked up behind me and the cashier (an old lady with glasses) finally comes out. This is my favorite tteok place in Ktown! So fresh, perfect balance of firmness and chewiness without the staleness of the ones you get from the supermarkets. The sesame/ bean fillings in the songpyeon and gyeongdan (my 2 favorites here) are just the right level of sweetness and strength of flavor. And the kimbap isn't bad either. They are legit. One of the best rice cakes I have had since moving to the US! Rice cake is a must have for a lot of traditional Korean celebrations. I was celebrating my baby's 100 days, and there are specific types of rice cake that have to go on the table. My husband and his family are all Chinese, and they don't celebrate 100 days like Koreans do, so I didn't have to throw a party for my baby, but I decided to do it anyway since she is half Korean and Korean babies get the 100 day party. It has become a norm that people get these huge rounds of white rice cake (baek sol gi) but I did not want to get it because I was the only Korean who would actually appreciate it (I brought a sample to my husband, and he goes, what are you supposed to eat it with? You are supposed to eat it alone! I guess he felt that it was too plain. It is an acquired taste because Koreans enjoy the subtlety of that particular rice cake. It's a good snack food) I only ordered 12 pieces, but the lady did not squint. If I went to other places they probably would've pushed for the round cake but not her. Not only that, she was very very helpful in selecting the rice cakes and customizing it for my needs instead of pushing me to order more stuff. I explained the situation to her, that I am the only Korean, so when the order came out, she had put in more kkool teok (translated as "honey" rice cake, not because it has honey in it, but because it is sweet as honey. It's actually sugar and sesame seed filling inside) which was a popular item. The kyong dan (multicolored Korean "mochi") was excellent. One of the best I have ever tasted in Korea and the US combined. I thought that paat in jeol mi (rice cake covered with red bean) wouldn't be popular, but even that was good. I wish I could throw another party to have an excuse to order more rice cake from them. (they are a bit far for me cuz I live in Redondo Beach) Love this place and I will definitely come back for ordering my baby's 1st birthday party rice cake as well! read more
