My Favorite dim sum spot in 626. Consistently delicious and great quality. Love their char siu bao here. They do it slightly different with crispy toppings and corn flakes. The char siu is so so good noms. Also love their char siu rice rolls. The sweet soy sauce taste great. They also have really good soy sauce chicken and ginger scallion chicken. So many good things here. Egg tarts, lotus wraps, phoenix chicken feet, spare ribs, char siu so, and many more. The restaurant is located on the side of a hotel. Clean and organized. A great dim sum spot, well worth a try! I recently enjoyed dim sum here with my wife and friends who highly recommended it. We arrived right at opening, and there was already a line. Thankfully our friends who live close by were already in line. The menu has all the classic dim sum options, but the standout for me was the Lo Bak Go (Turnip Cake). It's probably the best I've had, crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, with perfectly balanced flavors. Every dish we ordered was delicious, with fresh, high-quality ingredients that really made a difference. This spot has definitely become one of my favorite places for dim sum. I've been seeing this place pop up a couple of times now. I wanted to go while Yelp still offered the 20% off lol so I decided to go today. Right when I got near the entrance, I noticed a sign that says bogo chicken. Can do half or whole. Pretty pricey tho. The whole chicken was about $40 for one and about $22 for half. However, it was an ok deal. We decided to order 1 whole chicken. They were really smart tho. They didn't charge us $40. Since we decided to do one steamed and one soy sauce with half of each for dine in. The other halves for Togo. They charged us about 2 orders of half chicken. So, pretty much, we gotta pay $44 for one whole chicken. The food was very fresh. Some were a bit more salty than the other. For example, the chicken was ok. Almost kinda bland, but it had a hint of flavor. Har gow skin was ok. The shrimps inside were salty. Shiu Mai was ok. Steamed Char siu bao was a bit salty on the inside. They didnt use the usual red char siu :( The outside was very good. I didn't eat the chicken feet, but it looked good. The egg tart was my fav!! The crust was a bit too soft and fell apart easily. However, the egg part was so good. I don't even remember when was the last time I ate a good egg tart with the buttery taste. I waited to ask about the Yelp check in for 20% off since I saw a yelper saying 25% off. When I asked for the bill, I saw 15% off, so I decided to request for the 20% off. I'm not sure what all the rave is about. It's not very good at all. I was expecting good stuff, but got mediocre. We came here at about 10:30 AM because I heard so many good things about the food here. There were quite a lot of patrons, so that was a good sign. There was also a short wait, which is a good sign for a Friday morning brunch/dim sum. We ordered the Coconut Crispy Chicken (Half), Shrimp & BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Shrimp & Pork Siu-Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, Pan Fried Daikon Cake, & Sticky Rice & Chicken Lotus Leaf. The Coconut Crispy Chicken (Half) seemed as if it weren't cooked all the way through. There were pieces of the chicken that looked like it could've cooked a bit longer. Pieces that cooked through had good texture and was moist, but the skin could've been much crispier. There was definitely a coconut aroma/taste from the chicken, but for whatever reason, the flavor was not good. There was something off putting about it, and for $18, I definitely didn't feel it was worth it. I would not recommend this. The Shrimp & BBQ Pork Fried Rice was probably the best thing we had. It was flavorful and delicious, and the only thing my dining buddy liked. The Shrimp & Pork Siu-Mai was mediocre. It could've used a bit more shrimp and a bit better flavor. The Shrimp Dumpling was mediocre as well. The skin broke as we picked up a piece. It could've been that it steamed too long, or skin not made strong enough. And finally, the Pan Fried Daikon Cake was mediocre as well. I liked how it was pan fried, but it fell apart too easily. The flavors were a bit mild and could've used a little more salt. The Shrimp & Pork Siu-Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, & Pan Fried Daikon Cake were all mediocre. A bit more shrimp and a better flavor could've made the Shrimp & Pork Siu-Mai way better. An inadequate wrapping skin for the Shrimp Dumpling allowed it to break apart when grabbing the piece from the container. It could've been that it steamed too long, or skin not made strong enough. I liked how the Pan Fried Daikon Cake was fried and a little crispy, but it fell apart too easily. The flavors were a bit muted and could've used bang. And finally, the Sticky Rice & Chicken Lotus Leaf was not cooked all the way through... or at least not warmed up all the way. When it arrived at our table, it was piping hot, which is a good sign. When I unwrapped it, it didn't appear all the ingredients melded together as the rice part mainly white. First bite was hot, and it tasted ok. Second bite included pieces from the center, which were still cold. That should not be the case! None of these were the worst I've had, but definitely not the best either. Again, they were mediocre at best. It's almost as if they were bought in mass from a wholesaler, and steamed on site for consumption, and not made in house like some of the other restaurants. The service was decent, and the place appeared to be clean. I don't appreciate the TV's all around the restaurant as it cheapened the aesthetics of the restaurant. There was plenty of parking, and conveniently located. The meal came out to be $75, including tip. This was way too expensive for something this mediocre in my opinion. Delightful! The ambiance was excellent for lunar new year and our table for 4 was right next to the hanging ducks! The three item duck chicken and soy sauce chicken plate was the star of the show, but only narrowly outshined the salted fish with eggplant and chicken! Another incredible honorable mention was the egg tofu with double mushroom--I always think it will not be that great because I underestimate the tofu and this time was no different. It was perfectly browned and tender. The green beans were standard, and the pork stomach was delicious as well. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of dim sum! Came on a weekday lunch and had to wait for around an hour. There is seating available at the Holiday Inn nextdoor as you wait. They have an open kitchen so you can see dim sum being steamed and soy sauce duck/roasted pork & duck being prepared. Beef Chow Fun was delicious with tender beef and you can taste the "wok hey". Shrimp dumpling, siu mai, chicken feet, spare rib, steamed bbq pork bun, shrimp & chives rice noodle roll, pork & onion rice noodle roll, and pan fried daikon cake were honestly all so good. The menu is simplified so they are focusing on the main dim sum dishes. When I went, they were doing a special for buy one get one free chicken or buy half get half, which is good deal! After waiting 10-15 minutes, they were told to leave, and that they would not be served. The restaurant is underneath the hotel holiday inn. Parking can be a bit tight since it shares the same space as the hotel parking. You put your name down on the Yelp waitlist upon entering and it will keep you updated on the progress of your table through text message and a link. We waited almost an hour close to 50 minutes for a table and it wasn't even during lunch. It was around 11:00 am but it was worth the wait! The shrimp dumpling skin was so crystal clear and chewy. Quoted 30-40 minutes, waited over an hour, and the front desk service was completely unacceptable. After waiting more than an hour, with only three parties ahead of us, I checked in and was told that a table was available only if we shared a table. We were dining with a three-year-old child -- sharing a table is simply not appropriate. I was then told 2:30 PM was the last order, as if the long wait was somehow my fault. When I pointed out that if the restaurant couldn't handle that many guests before last order, they shouldn't hand out so many waitlist numbers, the response I got was, "How would I know?" -- rude, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional. I tried to be reasonable and offered a compromise: let us place our order first and move tables later when one opened up. This was rejected immediately, with an aggressive and hostile attitude from the front desk staff. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told the manager was "over there," yet the staff refused to call them over, saying "He didn't look at me, how can I call him?" and then walked away. We were a big party, so we got their Peking duck (so juicy, eat it while it's hot!) and a whole yin yang chicken (which was half soy sauce and half steamed). Their Thai-style egg tofu and steamed pea shoots were also yummy. These items stood out to me. I do not recommend their walnut shrimp as it wasn't worth the price and was also just dabbed with mayonnaise on top... Their French-style steak was also a big miss, as it was both too oily and salty. Also oddly squishy, makes me think they used a ton of baking soda in their marinade to tenderize it. Service here was good. We brought our own cake for dessert and when we told them, they promptly helped us clear the table and even brought out mini plates for us to serve. Tried this new dim sum and Cantonese restaurant and I loved it! Their dim sum tasted fresh and they have a variety of items to choose from. I really enjoyed their Shao Mai, Har Gow, and Cheung Fun. Their rice noodle for their Cheung Fun was silky and smooth. I really liked their pork and shrimp fillings. All their ingredients are high quality and have a fair price. Seems to be one of the few places doing lo bac guo (pan fried turnip cake) served fresh from the pan, because these were not only piping hot but nice and pan-crispy. Service was undistinguished yet pretty good for dim sum, and the vibe was plenty nice enough, considering they are built-in to a mid-priced hotel and have a lovely BBQ case on display. We enjoyed most of the menu, from har gow to ngau paak yip (steamed ginger beef tripe) to siu mai to gai lan to just about everything in-between. Crispy roast pork was almost TOO crispy, it was just seconds away from being hard, but was still good. At first - I thought it was because it was crowded and there's no space behind me - I get it. So I look behind me and tried to move away from everyone - only to realize there were tons of space behind me. I have no idea why I was getting bumped into all the time, but it was started to get annoying. Ordering was simple - we looked at a menu and marked what we wanted to get. Once we waved down a waiter, they came over to confirm what we wanted. The waiter started to speak in Cantonese and I had to let him a couple of times that I didn't understand before he switched to English. Food came out in a timely manner, but wasn't anything to rave about. The selection of dim sum wasn't too bad - just the usual selections plus a few others. We got eight things: - Beef & Cilantro Rice Noodle Roll ($7.38): 5+/5. My favorite dish. This was like the regular rice noodle roll but a huge portion with ample delicious sweet soy sauce. Thinking about that succulent dish makes me want to go back right now! - Scallop and Egg White Fried Rice: ($18.88): 5/5. Generous portion. My favorite type of fried rice and this did not disappoint. - Seafood Pan Fried Crispy Noodle ($17.88): 4/5. Very good, but not enough fish. - Cold dish cucumber ($8.88): 2/5. After leaving a nursery in Rosemead I was having a little reminder my stomach that dim sum might fill the void. An hour wait for Wednesday afternoon? This place might be promising. Parking might be a little difficult during lunchtime (and dinner too I guess) because this place feels like an extension of the Holiday Inn next to it. There's some chairs and tables outside but you risk second hand smoke if there are smokers nearby. You can actually order ahead using the dim sum check list while you wait and I kind of went a little overboard with it (I realized 15 items for 3 people were more than we could finish half way through). The goods: Coconut chicken soup was a must try if you never had it before. They baked chicken, pork, longans, and chunk of coconut in coconut water in a coconut. The result was a sweet and savory soup with toasted coconut fragrant. Mixed grains fried rice was also good. You have long grain rice, purple rice, barley and corn (with bits of shrimp as protein) which give it a different texture than your regular fried rice. I would definitely order this again. Sticky rice in lotus leaf is a staple dim sum item but a lot of place have been cutting corners so you mainly end up eating more rice than filling. This place use quality ingredients (the Chinese sausage was particularly good) and i could taste it. I would also order again: shrimp and chive rice rolls, beef offals, shrimp and pork wontons with chili oil. Honorable mention: chicken gristle: I order this out of curiosity. The chicken knees (?) In batter were fried with seasoning remaining me if salt and pepper shrimp. They were chewy and crunchy and salty so some people might enjoy this as drinking food. The best item (for me at least) was the custard steamed buns. It felt like biting into some sweet fluffy, gooey goodness. I devoured two even I was already too full. The not so good: Steamed chicken feet were heavily seasoned with star anise. Some people might like it like that but I found it too overwhelming. Steamed pork ribs: you got mostly tidbits of pork fat and bones. I got a few bites out of that and left the rest. Overall that was a good dining experience. The service was good (always helps if you have someone in your party speak either Cantonese or Mandarin here) and efficient. Weird service?? We had reservations on Father's Day. We ordered a whole Peking duck and a whole chicken but was told they only have half left of each? We were there at 6:30 and people who came after us were able to get the whole duck. We didn't argue but thought it was weird because the others got their whole Peking duck with a warming plate and when ours arrived it was on a different plate completely and it was only half. How come ours was the only one that was different out of the whole restaurant?? Not only that, we ordered a veggie dish when we arrived and it came at 8:15. We kept asking for it, and they said they didn't put it in so we waited another 30, 45 minutes before we asked someone to check on it again. We ended up just taking the whole thing to go because we were done with all the other food. Overall, the half chicken dish that we did get was good, but the lobster and noodle dish BARELY had any noodles despite charging an extra $10 for the noodles. It was truly disappointing because I think most of the food was tasty, but we just had so many weird things happen. The restaurant looks like a typical Chinese restaurant with round tables and it was pretty rowdy (but again, we went on a holiday and we're used to it.) My girlfriend and I knew this was a fancier place with a higher price point. The food here is ordered on a sheet of paper. Check off the quantity you want for each item and wait for them to freshly come out of the kitchen. The taste of most dishes were better than the dim sum spots we grew up having with our parents. We all remember those times, especially for the people that grew up in the San Gabriel Valley. The bill was a bit pricier than most places, but the service was pretty good. I came here to have lunch with friends. Overall, I will recommend this place. However , the price is a bit higher than other place which we will expect better service and quality. The food came pretty quick which is good thing. But cleaning is a bit slow. The food is decent mostly. Few items are bit ok. Since it's inside the hotel, the decoration and environment is pretty good. One thing needs to point out is the floor is tile which almost made me tripped since it was raining outside.
