Had a good time at harbor breakfast. I've heard it's usually crowded but we came on a cloudy/rainy day and luckily got a spot for two at the bar area. It's a classic breakfast joint but has lots of options (out of hash browns tho which was sad). The door was open and we were right by it so it was pretty chilly. They also had a big party in the back, as told by our waiter, so we actually waited a really long time for the food which is why it lost a star for me. And it's just quick cook breakfast food so.. Wanted to try this place for a while. I called both numbers to be found online, called many times with no answer. Eventually i walked to the restaurant and there was little to no service, and when I did get someone to take my order, they let me know they don't have a phone number, lol. The food was decent. The lobster was fresh and the eggs were prepared well, but the bread was just plain boring bread and the beet Hashbrowns shouldn't even be called hasbrowns, it's just beets. My GO-TO-Breakfast place when I arrive in San Diego on the train (Kettner) from Irvine. The breakfast selection is great and everything is mouth watering delicious. The serve breakfast & lunch. I love hash browns, so naturally I ordered a side, and it covered the ENTIRE plate. The breakfast burrito with chorizo can get pretty messy and takes up the entire plate as well. It is PACKED and the hot sauce is mild (you can order HOT). The location is ON the corner of India & W. Beech St. There is always a line, but if there is 1-2 ppl, sit at the counter (first come, first serve). The wait is 10-15 minutes unless you want to sit outside. When you first visit, you see the outdoor tables, a counter, and a few tables inside, BUT, there is another room with many more tables on the other side of the kitchen. It's like a giant room with the kitchen placed in the center. The "other" room is quieter but gets just the same amount of lovin' as the outdoor area. Very popular place for both visitors and locals. There are other breakfast/brunch options in the area that I would choose over Harbor Breakfast first. FOOD: 3.5. As others have noted, some dishes are light in flavor. As a sodium-cautious person, I was perfectly fine with my dish, but I can see why others have noted that the food can be a bit bland. I ordered the Hangtown Fry and my partner ordered the Frittata Sirena. It satisfied my Hangtown Fry craving, since the dish is hard to find around San Diego. If you order it, just keep in mind that the flavors may not be as bold as you might expect. The Frittata Sirena packed more flavor for sure and was pretty tasty to me. SERVICE: 4. Everyone is so friendly, but expect to wait 15-20 minutes during the weekend before getting seated. And perhaps an extra 20 minutes for the food to come out. For those who are big on service, this may not be the best experience for you. It seemed that the restaurant was short staffed, but that's to be expected during the time of COVID. I didn't mind waiting and hope they can figure things out. Ambiance-wise, this is a mom and pop breakfast spot, so its not gonna feel like other hipster or modern brunch spots. Think diner-like. The place seemed to need a little maintenance especially the bathroom in which the toilet seat was barely attached though the bathroom was large and every once in a while you get an unpleasant whiff. My experience at this restaurant did not feel real to me. I've walked by it numerous times and figured it was time to check it out. When you walk in, the lady at the bar rolls her eyes and clearly does not want to be there. It's as if you're bothering her by taking a seat in an almost-empty restaurant 2.5 hours before they close. We ended up sitting at the bar simply because most of the tables were dirty. It was the same case with the bar area. The counter had not been wiped down. I didn't get it. The restaurant only had 4 people dining besides the two of us. What put me off was just the awful service. She took our order, then went back to chatting with another guest. About 20 minutes later, our food came out. She just dropped it in front of us and walked away. We didn't have any cutlery. You would've thought you offended her by asking for cutlery. A little later, another guest just got up and got their own cutlery behind the bar. While I was eating my french toast, another guest got their french toast. She picked up the bottle of maple syrup from in front of me and plopped it in front of the other guest. Do they only have 1 bottle of syrup? At this point, I grabbed the check and was out of there incredibly fast. I was waiting for someone to pop out and say we were being Punk'd. Food: Brisket Corned Beef Hash: 4/5. Lobster Benedict: 1/5. The eggs were poached hard. This kind of defeats the purpose of egg's benedict. Harbor Challah French Toast: 5/5. This is an excellent dish. But difficult to eat without syrup. Will I ever come here again? Probably not. But I'll be more than happy to grab an order of the french toast to go. read more

2.5 Stars Came here early morning found a parking spot right around the corner. I got the corned beef hash, hash browns, over medium eggs and wheat toast. I was impressed that the corned beef was homemade, but it was shredded and over boiled to where it fell apart. I prefer my corned beef to be cubed, it requires it to be properly cooked. It also came with grilled onions and bell peppers, which was nice but i feel that it needed more potatoes, i mean it is a hash right? I did get it with hash browns so eating it together was the way to go. The hash browns had a nice crust to them, possibly cooked in a cast iron pan, but it was oily and needed some salt and pepper which was an easy fix, but it was still greasy. My egg was more of a over well than over medium but not a big deal. The wheat toast was very good, a toasted slice of french loaf, not your standard loaf of bread but an french style artisan style bread. Yum! This place has a lot of potential, they have the right idea, made in house corned beef with onions, and bell peppers, crispy hash browns and artisan bread toast. I think they have the right idea they just need to execute the vision better. Maybe it was an off day but this little diner is the true meaning of a greasy spoon, a long counter bar that you can sit at and a few tables around. Service was great there was one guy servicing the whole place! I could tell he was stressed out, they could definitely use another server, but the guy managed and did a very good job so i left him a fat tip because he had to cover so many tables. pro tip: the metered stalls start at 8. I'm not sure of the expectations that would encourage a negative review of this place. This is a great little neighborhood spot with a lot of character, friendly staff, good food, and great coffee. We were seated promptly, and treated courteously by the entire staff. No attitude to be found here. Side note: the guajillo salsa was excellent. Both of our meals were delicious, and we would definitely eat here again. If there is a negative, it is a little pricier than I'd like, but reasonable for the area. One of the most disappointing breakfast spots at downtown San Diego. The interior was truly reminiscent of a restaurant you would find near a body of water. But the food was way too salty and came in slow. Just as a daily reminder, the parking at downtown San Diego is almost nonexistent. I ordered an eggs benedict, and goodness was it salty. I couldn't even finish the biscuit that came with it. The egg was decent, but not enough you pull the rest of the dish up with it. Go somewhere else at San Diego for breakfast. Today having a goodbye breakfast as my son and his family take off for Denver at Harbor Breakfast. Two empty plates to show you how good it really was and how hungry we were. So sorry, forgot to take photos except of the empty plates. I had scrambled eggs, accidentally ate some turkey bacon LOL it was delicious, biscuit and sweet beet potato fries. Not sure what my son had it it was all gone way before mine was. Our waiter Armando was such a sweet person, excellent service and so very happy. I highly recommend this place and the outside small patio area off the street is really nice with umbrellas and very large tables. No plexiglass, no need. Oh, we arrived around 10:30. For the first time in my life I got food poisoning. I ate here 7/24 on my way out of town. All morning I was fine until a little over an hour after eating. I was sick for the rest of the day and ended up in the hospital and didn't make it home until the next day. It was either the chicken sausage or the jam that for some reason is pre dispensed into little plastic cups and just sits out. Horrible way to end my trip and spend the next few days.
