It's good. I had better, but it's good. I asked for my usual toppings, but they were missing some of what I requested, but that happens to even the best of places. The service was fast. I ordered a medium and it was somewhat small...I think the other places I go to are just very generous with their portions. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 because the beef itself is really good. The portion sizes are small compared to other places...but then again, other places do give you too much (calorie counting people will agree), and the prices are good, too. I have recently discovered the "real" roast beef sandwich, and have become instantly hooked. Harrison's version is great. Onion roll, their own spicy sauce (recommended), cheese--you're good to go. They slice the beef fresh each sandwich right in front of you. I love Kelly's, but in terms of the pure sandwich, Harrison's is every bit as good, maybe better. Their fries are fantastic. I grew up in Andover and went to Harrison's often prior to moving to Seattle in 1990. But, every time I head home, Harrison's is always on my "have to have" list. I absolutely love their sandwiches and fries. Hands down, the best. I so wish there was somewhere out here that served a sandwich half as good. Classic New England roast beef joint. Nearly shaved beef piled high; a slice of cheese and a slather of bottled Open Pit style barbecue sauce (heavy is the way I ordered it). Ultra fast service at the height of lunch hour during a weekday. Krinkle-cut fries top it off -- it's almost as if this is the Andover/Lawrence version of Framingham's old Riley's Roast Beef. This is our go to place in the area. Best roast beef sandwiches. We only ever get take out because the dining room is nothing great. The amazing ness of your sandwich can also depend on which staff is working, some are way better than others, but either way I always eat it! I've been coming here for years. The food is decent but it's pretty obvious they are cuttin back on their serving sizes. Im not a big guy but if a super roast beef and half a medium French frie don't fill me, we got issues. I just spent $25 for 1 super, 1 Jr and a medium fry. As I sit here writing this, I'm still hungry. Not normal. My suggestion to anyone reading my review, unless you are in the area and desperate for food, take your business to somewhere like blue house in Salem or even royal house in methuen. This place gets five stars because it is successfully surviving as what it wants to be; a place for a fantastic roast beef sandwich. Nothing more. You come in, you wait in line for five minutes max, order, wait five more mins. Get your order. Either eat at one of the sticky tables in the run down venue or take it to go. If my girlfriend and I really like a new place we try, we say something like "this is the Harrison's of pizza" or "this is the Harrison's of cheesecake" meaning it is at the top of the list in it's category. I don't intentionally write reviews that disagree with the masses but, I don't like Harrison's. Why you ask, because it's way over rated. The food is just average, No more. The prices are high. The service is just OK. (the first time I went there I made the mistake of thinking the counter right in front of you as you enter is for ordering, my bad, you need to walk to the right & go around. After standing there ignored for more than 5 minutes I figured out I was in the wrong place. I thought for sure they would yell at me & tell me NO BEEF FOR YOU, COME BACK IN ONE YEAR! but that didn't happen. They have the usual items, a rather large dining room & a decent size parking lot. Think about that one for a second.... The area north of Boston is known for their roast beef sandwich and Harrison's has the best roast beef sandwich north of Boston. Dont get the $16 lobster roll. Mine had bits of shells, a weird pickle flavor, and the meat looked a little tired. I only ate 1/3 of it, the rest is in the trash. There is a bed of shredded lettuce under the lobster meat plumping it up a bit, and the roll is rather bulky. 4 stars because they have great beef and fries. read more

This is one of those places if people set aside memories and hype they would avoid. My wife and I were out Sunday evening and decided to go to Harrison's I have never been a huge fan but my wife likes it. Why does she like it because there is not a lot meat on the junior don't try and figure her out. I will start with the sandwich. I ordered a large roast beef. The bun was supposed to be an onion roll I guess you could tell by the one or two flecks of onion on it. The roast beef was totally grey and mushy. Yeah you need to slice roast beef thin but there is a difference between thin sliced and sliced to mush. It was also tasteless, would a little spice and salt hurt you? Now the price $6.79 for a large I guess not much but I think it is one of the highest price for the amount of meat and cheese is extra, really for a thin slice of American cheese. I find their sandwich worst then most standard pizza shop's certainly far inferior to blue house. I like their crinkle cut French fries but if you are expecting hand cut forget it they are frozen. But like I said I like them. We ordered an egg roll which is nothing to write home about but decent. However they did not provide any duck sauce. Went to the counter and asked for some and they said I was lucky it was the last one. I would have been luckier if they included it originally. This bring me to service. Ok I get it the service is brusk and "efficient" but the person that took our order seemed bothered and disgusted that we were even there, no hi, thank you, your welcome, or even slight eye contact. He was joking with the other staff about a customer in front of other customers. Just made us feel uncomfortable and unwanted. Now something I find odd for years every time when you walk in it smells musty and mildewy like the toilets backed up and never dried up properly. I mean for years. I think they have never shampooed the rugs or done a thorough cleaning. It may be the A/C ductwork if that is the case perhaps a cleaning every ten years may be in order. The condiment station was for lack of a better phrase filthy, not recent filthy but at least all day filthy. I gave it two stars just because I reserve one star for totally inedible fare. read more

I've ordered their medium size roast beef sandwiches with BBQ sauce, horseradish and onions and on the side, fried onion rings. The roast beef sandwiches are always generously portioned, tender and medium rare. The bun was tender but no where near as soft and savory as the onion rolls at Royal Roast Beef in East Boston MA. They are almost as good as Nicks' Famous Roast Beef in Beverly MA. The onion rings are perfectly fried, not greasy and have a nice homemade style crunchy batter. Why 2 stars? The dining room was less than clean, the carpet stained and the furniture looked worn. In a word, shabby. The front of the house guy wore a dirty shirt and do-rag, was brusque, dismissive, didn't even greet customers, seemed bothered by our order and just plain rude. One night, my wife and I got there at 9PM. The posted closing time was 10PM but they waved us off as if to say: "Go away!" If only their service matched the goodness of the food, I'd give Harrison's more than 2 stars. Somebody call Gordon Ramsay and save this place from it's staff, please. What a cryin' shame! read more

I have heard tons of good things about Harrisons and one day decided to try it out. I was supremely dissapointed. It took me twenty mins to get a large beef that was the size of a junior beef at most places that pride themselves on beef. The beef itself was ok and nothing special. I asked them to grill the beef a little extra and they didn't so it was rare and not what I asked for. The bun was not grilled as most places do and the staff acted as if I was bothering them when I walked in. All this and the beef with cheese and sauce cost me about $8.00. Sorry, but I can't give this more than a star. The sauce is great, but the place is so dirty, it's not even worth eating there. I've been there on two different occasions when people vomited. Sure, it's probably not Harrison's fault that drunk Merrimack kids are throwing up in their place, but the whole place is just dirty with sketchy customers and unfriendly employees. I've been to Harrison's Roast Beef many times over the years since I grew up in the town next door. It has the best roast beef sandwiches I've ever tasted. The tender thin slices of beef covered in their delicious sauce is so good, it's like a little slice of heaven. Their fries are decent. The restaurant's interior isn't going to win any design awards. It's pretty plain inside, but I like how its not fancy. It's a regular hangout for the Merrimack College students and you'll often find them working behind the counter too. I haven't been able to find any roast beef like this for this price besides here or the former Rileys.
