Although there may be a line at high noon, it's always fast moving, and the food is almost always worth the wait. Yes, I said almost. I have grown up in the Andover area and have been eating at Harrison's since I could chew whole foods. Not much has changed in the place in almost twenty years. A recent remodel of the inside (okay, so they gave the walls a paint job and replaced some table tops, it still has the same feel it did in 1989) and a few employee swap outs are the only changes one can see when entering Harrison's. Unfortunately, I've experienced a few sub-par sandwiches and undercooked pizza rolls in my last few visits. Harrisons has been around for 30 years or so, I've been coming here since I was a teenager . The large roost beef was enormous, so I always got two smalls, excellent sandwiches. The crinkle cut fries are awesome. Fast forward to today, everything remains the same except the amount of meat they put in the sandwich, they definitely cut back some, but I still love it. I can live with that do to the fact that there still awesome. If that's what they needed to do to stay in business with changing times I'm good with that, just don't ever close the doors. read more

I had heard good things about their Roast Beef but was unable to try it for myself. I stood at their counter for 10 minutes as the cooks and runners went back and forth behind the counter. I was the only one in line but there was about 8 people behind the counter and at least 6 people waiting for their order. After 10 minutes with no one acknowledging me as a paying customer, I got aggravated and left. Funny, no one tried to stop me!! read more

They have a large parking lot and the front looks more like a family style restaurant. I had been there before but really wanted a second take before writing this review. It is busy inside, the ordering is by lining up. The decor is drab and dark, dirty and old. I would say they haven't changed a thing in 30 years and it shows. Ordered the large roast beef with extra sauce, some fries and onion rings. A small one. They were fresh and hot, but sorta over priced. The roast beef was luke warm, the sauce has a slight twang to it and even though I ordered extra it just bleed out the sides but wasn't in the beefy part of the sandwich, it just made for a soggy bun. What they should do is dip the roast beef in the sauce and toast the bun with the cheese melted and separated by a little bit of lettuce. As it is, it's unappetizing. read more

I have enoyed everything I have ever eaten here. Fries are great, rings, mozz sticks, pizza roll. The roast beef is delicious (my second favorite next to Charlies in Middleton..however the fries and everything here are better than Charlies). The price is right. harrison's consistently offers the best roast beef sandwich in the area, and i love their french fries too. i have a pretty good appetite and the junior is plenty for me, made with just the right ratio of roast beef to bun and always topped with plenty of mayo. i prefer mine with no mayo or cheese and its still never dry. my husband and dad both get the larges with the works and love the toasted onion bun. the crinkle fries are always hot with a crispy exterior. don't forget the giant pickle! read more

Sorry to say that this restaurant did not live up to the hype. Tonight was my first time trying this restaurant and I was HIGHLY disappointed! First, my order was completely wrong and when I called to let them know, of course I got no response. The fries were refried in old grease and I spent my hard earned money on old greasy fries and sandwiches I never ordered. I ordered two medium roast beef sandwiches and two small fries. oh, Harrisons. "delicious" doesn't even describe this place. We often order roast beef, pizza rolls, fries, mozzarella sticks and sometimes even a salad. I would recommend all of them. Finish the meal off with a chocolate chip cookies and you will certainly leave satisfied. The only downfall is they also have relatively early closing hours, so you can't go "late-night" if you want too. We're out-of-towners and this place was suggested as a "must-go" by our friend who is a native. I had the large beef with sauce, lettuce and horseradish. My wife had a medium beef with sauce. Been going here since 1984 when they opened. While it is still the best tasting roast beef sandwich, they have gotten cheap with the amount of beef of the sandwich while the prices have consistently risen. It kills them to have to take credit/debit cards as they have to pay the fees so they have passed those costs on to their loyal customers with higher prices and less beef. Dined at Harrison's on 7/26 in the afternoon upon a recommendation from a friend. Food was really good I thought but I've never really eaten at a roast beef place before. The service, however, was ubiquitously awful. It almost appears as tho the owner wants the theme of ticked-off counter workers. Since our visit, I've read several reviews of how unfriendly the workers are and there appears to be no response from the owner to those reviews. That suggests that it is a desired atmosphere. (I do have to make one exception to the employees, the young man attending to the dining room garbage at least had some manners). IF that is the desired atmosphere, it is not the atmosphere that I desire. I will not be back. read more

This used to be my favorite roast beef for a while but for the past year or so the quality has really decreased and the service is poor. Half the time the guy taking your order is fighting with one of the other employees and swearing. I tend to go elsewhere for roast beef now. We have going to Harrison's for many years and before that to Rileys Roast Beef in Lawrence, Ma. Unfortunately, after many years of excellent sandwiches, the last 3 or 4 times have been awful. Definitely not worth going out of my way to get sandwiches there any longer. I recently stopped there on the way back from Boston at my wife's request. My wife got the usual roast beef and ate half. There was nobody a bigger fan of Harrison's than my wife and she again said she did not like the roast beef. I tried a pastrami sandwich. I have never had a pastrami sandwich that is just layered cold cuts. It's usually shredded. If it was a good sandwich, I could be somewhat forgiving, but I would never order it again. So in conclusion, we will not be eating at Harrison's any longer. read more

While I tend to go back and forth on being a vegetarian and indulging in meat, I reluctantly must admit that I love the sandwiches and onion rings at Harrison's Roast Beef. For over-the-counter service food, this is a great place. The meat itself is lean, thickly cut, tender, and juicy, the rolls are heavy and well crafted, and the condiments, which include barbecue sauce and horseradish, add extra flavor. For a side dish, the onion rolls are delicious, and I remember they had a scrumptious batter that didn't taste greasy or weighed down, either. While the atmosphere is very casual, I remember the staff always being courteous, and I get a kick out of the fact that most of their employees tend to be tough, thrash metal dudes. Overall, this is a great place to go for lunch, or for a dinner that is steps above fast food without being a sit down restaurant. read more

The roast beef sandwiches are excellent and they crank em out with lightning precision, efficiency rarely seen in places that have the kind of volume of Harrison's. They don't write the orders down- just bark them out at the dude on the slicer and the others who are doing drinks or the fryers. The flavor of the roast beef with bbq & mayo on a soft fresh onion roll is simply awesome. I prefer Harrison's to Kelly's as Harrison's beef is shaved, nice and thin, thus it kinda just melts into the gooey sandwich in your mouth. The place is kinda messy and service is curt, but so what? Take your sandwich and get the fuck out of their way, they are busy cranking out great roast beef sandwiches. What you need to know before you go to Harrison's is that it's not meant to be for food snobs. It's a counter service, cash-only sort of dive, which serves delicious roast beef. Their target crowd are workers on their lunch break who need a quick and simple lunch. You can't go there expecting to have fancy decor and a huge menu. And while I appreciate friendly service as much as the next person, when I'm headed there for a quick lunch, I really don't care if the cashier is going to be all smiley and super friendly with me or not. The roast beef is fresh and sliced right in front of you. It comes on a roll with sauce, so if you want it plain, remember to order it as such. You can also get it with horseradish sauce if you prefer. The sandwiches are messy if you get them with sauce, but so good. I love the french fries here because they are crispy... my favorite way to get them (same goes for the onion rings). There are other things on the menu, however I wouldn't necessarily go there for anything other than the roast beef. That's like going to a lobster pound and ordering chicken - it's not the specialty, so don't expect it to be great! read more
